A HUMBLE BEGINNING

If AVM was focused on prayers and rituals, Thondu Seivom (TS) was mooted by Balachandran to provide service to the community. After successfully carrying out several annadhanam or feeding programs through another arm of AVM, Amudha Surabhi (AS), Balachandran started his family on providing food to an old folks home on a monthly basis. Malar's family too provided food at the Vivekananda Shelter. Dyalan took up this noble task too, feeding the kids at an orphanage. Sri Krishna's family from Agathiyar Universal Mission (AUM) started a program Pothigai Meals on Wheels that serves food to the hungry and homeless on the streets. I was happy to hear that Harikrishnan's family had started to do charity too in the footsteps of Balachandran. Each AVM family member began to take turns in doing their share of charity. It is wonderful to know that this idea of feeding the poor, homeless and orphans has been well received by members of AVM and taken into their individual homes and family just as the rituals and prayers held at AVM has been brought into the homes of AVM family. This noble deed was taken abroad too when TS fed the public on the streets of Thiruvanamalai and AVM did a similar charity to the poor at Palani.

Rakesh is doing many good deeds with his office mates in his own way in India. He too has a blog at http://tut-temple.blogspot.my/. I had covered his contribution earlier at http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.my/2017/01/blog-post.html

Going through the past years events undertaken by AVM, TS, AS and AUM, it brings joy and happiness. We are amazed at the number and extent of these programs that has got off the ground. It brings joy to our hearts when we go through these posts and realize how much has been achieved the past years. It was all possible due to the cooperation and commitment of all. May we stay together and carry out more dharma.

There are an equal number of good samaritans out there who have been pioneers in providing selfless service to the society. Kechara Soup Kitchen, one of the pioneers in providing food and medical care to the homeless on the streets of Kuala Lumpur (KL) was started with the blessing of a monk. The Teddy Bear doctor Dr. Madhu Sudhan of the Teddy Mobile Clinic (TMC), who administers medical care to numerous homeless people, is a familiar face in the streets of KL too.

AVM, TS, AS and AUM too want to join these noble souls in providing food and essentials to the unfortunate. There is a wonderful feel to it. This is anandham. Bliss is derived in helping another. We have taken the first step.
