BONDING WITH THE SIDDHAS

When we gain the trust of a guru a bond is cemented that goes beyond births. A guru pleaded to Agathiyar to heal his disciple who had taken birth in the present. Tavayogi who was an old soul came to guide and tutor us. He was with Agathiyar in the past. Agathiyar told Sri Krishna in the Nadi that Krishna had ferried Mataji Sarojini Ammaiyar across the river Kaveri to witness the consecration of the Sivalingam made out of river sand by Agathiyar at the present day Nattadresswarar temple in the past.This is the bond between disciple and guru that goes beyond borders, birth, and time. 

If he had been of service ferrying Mataji and numerous others including possibly many of the dignitaries of that era, in this birth Sri Krishna's thought continues to revolve around the welfare of others. As a student he was witness to numerous people come for a Nadi reading in his uncle's home where he was brought up. His uncle used to bring the Nadi readers from India. Later Sri Krishna started translating the Nadi for them. Then he and his wife accompanied and lead those who had the need to do remedies to local destinations and to India. Besides caring for Agathiyar in a temple carrying out his libation regularly he and his wife continued to serve devotees food too. Then their sight shifted to the many going hungry on the streets. They undertook to do street feeding. We learned from them too. Both he and his wife have since then looked for opportunities to serve others. The welfare of others is forever on their minds. Coordinating with the doctors they carried out Medical Camps on the streets too. They started a feeding program at a school for the students with the cooperation of the teachers. Soon they identified the poor and unfortunate living in the flats and gave them groceries and cooked food. When they noticed the amount of leftover food thrown away at weddings and other functions they coordinated with the caterers and the host of these events and collected the extras and redistributed them to the hungry. In times of the pandemic, they being Siddha physicians themselves decided to prepare Siddha herbal preparations to improve one's immune system and are giving them away. 

We salute this couple for their untiring efforts in trying to bring aid and food to those suffering. If we are occasional samaritans satisfied in making an occasional donation or feeding others on occasions, they have been doing these at every opportunity available. This has become their purpose in life. May Agathiyar give them the strength and the funds to carry on their programs.

THE EFFICACY OF RECITING MANTRAS

Lord Shiva's timely instruction to recite both the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and Dhanvantri mantra comes as a boon to us during this period of extreme hardship in facing the pandemic where we see fear and death happening around us. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra erases fear while the Dhanvantri mantra acts as a shield. As this pandemic rages on it looks like it's every man for himself. We in Malaysia say "Kita Jaga Kita" meaning we take care of ourselves. By doing this it doesn't mean we are selfish or that we do not care about others but on the contrary, it is because we care about them that we take care of ourselves following the precautions listed by WHO and the authorities. We do not want others to contract the virus from us and neither do we want to contract from others. 

Srīnāthā Rāghavan wrote in Fb yesterday a beautiful piece on mantras. It is very relevant since Lord Shiva and Agathiyar have been speaking about working in cohesion with the Prapanjam, tapping into it its pranic energy, and with the aid of pranayama intensify the vibration that results within and set it free back into the Prapanjam to cleanse and heal it. 

Sri says that 

".. the power of Mantras, slowly shifts your consciousness and makes the Mind vibrate to a higher vibration. Mantras work on the principle of "Sympathetic Resonance" where a higher resonance overwrites the lower one, thus attaining synchronicity. Mind is ultimately vibration and every Mind vibrates to a certain frequency thus determining how it's going to be, one of a Yogi or a Bhogi. If the vibrations are gross, then it is caught in Samsārā (World and Worldly) and if raised higher, it is in sync with Kailāsā. Mantras when done properly raises one's core vibration, be it Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual, making us overall fit to receive higher grace and perception. A highly refined Mind is only capable of witnessing the inner unseen workings of Creation, else it gets caught in the obvious." 

"A Mantra has to be repeated a certain Million times to set up the neural track and energy in motion, clearing the inner pathways be it physical or astral. Even as a Mantra is repeated the Sound activates certain dormant parts of the Brain awakening us to a higher experience of light. As the chanting deepens it clears and opens up many neural pathways within, taking you into inner dimensions or realms, where the Mantra Devata resides. That's when the Mantra attains siddhi or perfection, when the Mantra Devata and the Mantrika form an unbreakable bond of trust in each other's words/intent."

"Mantras are Sonic Anchors which take us from gross reality to subtle ones. When a Mantra resonates partly outside and partly within, if our awareness follows the outer route, the Mantra helps mold the outer reality, whereas when you follow the inner route, it unfolds the world within. Hence a Mantra can be used to manifest all the desires of a Bhogi (Enjoyer) or it can deepen one's inner awareness leading the Mantrika into a state of Yoga (Union)." 

Those who are not familiar with how to connect with the Prapanjam, they can opt to perform a Homam. Rituals too are needed for the wellbeing of one and his surroundings. If meditation is for the internal wellbeing, rituals are for the external, Even those into deep meditation have to wake up to the world unless they opt to remain in samadhi. Of course, their perception of the world would be entirely different then. They do come back and propagate the need for rituals as Tavayogi and Agathiyar trained us. Tavayogi started an ashram on the directive of Agathiyar postponing his intent to go into samadhi. The reason is that having attained the state of a Jeevan Mukta, one has to come down from his state of contentment and accomplishment to give back to the Prapanjam. What better means than to lead others to the destination? Hence in Seva or service, they serve the Lord. We are always reminded of the acts of the saints of the past who served the Lord's devotees. One has to step out of his state of contentment and give a hand to another to reach that state. That is the purpose in life as dictated by Agathiyar. Only then have we lived life fully. The gift of knowledge and wisdom showered on us is not to be taken with us. All the practice and guidance given to us is not to be taken with us. Supramania Swami left it behind before he left his mortal frame. Tavayogi left it behind before he left his mortal frame too. I picked it up from them. Today it has been passed on to another young devotee Mahindren. 

When the pandemic that was restrained got out of hand and the numbers began to escalate again, Mahindren initiated the ritual of conducting a Homam telling me that if Tavayogi was around he would have done the same too. When the tsunami hit the coasts of India in 2004, Tavayogi set out to carry out a Yagam on a large scale at his Ashram grounds. That has become an annual event now taking the form of the Sarva Dosa Nivarana Maha Yagam to this day at Kallar Ashram. Taking the cue and suggestion that the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and Dhanvantri Mantra would be appropriate as the former removes fear and the latter acts as a shield, Mahindren set out to light the fire in his home with his family. Lord Shiva came immediately after the ritual and answered our worries.

"மனிதர்கள் பிரபஞ்சத்தோடு இணைந்து பிரபஞ்சத்தைக் கவசமாய் பயன்படுத்தி பிரபஞ்சத்தைச் சுத்தம் செய்ய வேண்டும். பிரபஞ்சம் சுத்தம் அடையும் தருணம் இந்த நோய் முற்றிலும் குணமடையும். பிரபஞ்சத்தோடு இணையும்பொழுது உங்களில் ஏற்படும் அதிர்வுகள் அணுவாய் மாறிப் பிரபஞ்சத்தைத் தூய்மை செய்யும். அதுநாள் வரை இந்த நோய் நீண்டகாலம் இருக்கச் செய்யும். சிவன் நானும் உங்களோடு இணைந்து பிரார்த்தனைகளை முன்வேய்ப்பேன் பிரபஞ்சம் தூய்மை பெற. முடிந்தமட்டிலும் ஒவ்வொருவரும் இந்த ஹோமத்தைச் வாரம் ஒரு நாள் செய்து வாருங்கள். யாரெல்லாம் கலந்துகொள்ள முடியுமோ கலந்து கொள்ளதும். பூஜையில் இணைவோருக்கு இந்த நோய் பாதிக்காது. உங்களின் பூஜையை நான் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டேன்."

Lord Shiva says man now needs to join forces with the Prapanjam and use it as a force field or shield and engage in cleansing it. When it's cleansed the world will be completely rid of the virus. When we engage with the Prapanjam the vibration that takes place in us shall become atoms that shall cleanse the Prapanjam. The virus will be around till that day (till that is achieved fully). Shiva will join us in prayers to cleanse the Prapanjam. He asked that we try to do the Homan once a week. Those who can join do so, he says (In lieu of the lockdown). Those who engage in this prayer will be safe. He has accepted Mahindren's Puja.

Mahindren got the ball rolling and others followed him too in their respective homes, now each home becoming Agathiyar Vanam or garden. My home that began as a single rhizome and took on the name Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia has today, like "the root system of banana plants that puts out suckers, which form new plants to replace the dying main plant after it fruits" has sprouted in the homes of these devotees. It gives me great joy to see this development that was both a wish and a dream of Tavayogi and Agathiyar. Another couple Sri Krishna and Srimathi Dewy, ardent devotees of Agathiyar having come to the path even much earlier than me, take every directive from Agathiyar and execute them immediately. The Homam burns in their home too that is known as Agathiyar Universal Mission or AUM. It is from this couple that we learned to do charity. Is this what the saints meant when they referred to their lineage as வாழையடி வாழையென வந்த திருக்கூட்டம் referring to the root system of the banana plants?

We should not let the flame in us die. We should not burn out completely without lighting another candle. It is not only about leaving behind children but leaving our mark on another too. That is what the saints did. They all left their mark on others. Should not we do the same? Both Mahindren and his wife and Sri Krishna and his wife fit this bill perfectly. We do not need to become a guru to do it. Being ourselves as Agathiyar's devotees we can light another candle. If we look around us, we shall see and identify our purpose in coming here. Until and unless we open our eyes the divine will keep his shut. That is how it works.


PRAY FROM HOME

Those who adopt all the preventive measures and take extreme care obviously will be angry with those who throw caution to the wind. These stubborn folks refuse to see how the medical profession is struggling to attempt to bring this pandemic under control. The Director-General of Health Malaysia Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah posted several photos of his medical team in exhaustion on Fb recently. Hopefully, this should open the eyes of those who are still stubborn and ignore the rules, and still bent on moving around unnecessarily.  



Please help the Medical profession to help us by staying home. We could all spend more time in prayers. Pray for their wellbeing too besides praying for your loved ones and everyone else. There has been a twist to our long-standing religious practices. We do not have the liberty of coming together in large numbers to carry out our worship in public places of worship. The public has been urged to stay at home. Let us stay at home. Let us pray from home. When all our activities subside it might hopefully provide the much-needed time and space for the Prapanjam to cleanse and heal herself and recuperate.

I am not sure where to start, I have been a regular follower of your blog for the last 8-9 months. Have read your posts and they greatly inspired me to follow the Siddha path. Before coming across your blog, I had already been in touch with ..... who read my Kaanda Nadi using my thumbprint. Though I had some reservations ...., I got to know from your YouTube videos it was ..... who read Nadi for you in your initial days. It gave me the confidence ...... and undergo the remedies he suggested.

I believe Agathiyar introduced you to me through your blog to clear my doubts. It is from your blog, I had the contact of Kallar ashram and got introduced to Mataji Sarojini Ammaiyar. She is a wonderful person who clarified to me regarding my spiritual Guru through Jeeva Nadi reading. She confirmed that Agathiyar is my Guru even from a past life and he would guide me even in this lifetime. He mentioned in the Jeeva Nadi that he will personally guide me. 

Again, I strongly feel it's our Guru Agathiyar who silently connected the right dots for my destiny to be unfolded in such a way. Finding your blog randomly from a Google search and then coming across Mataji to have a Jeeva Nadi read where I got the answer for my long-standing question. Whenever I have a doubt or question lingering in my mind, I usually have an answer from your blog post. Sometimes I randomly choose a post from your past and I seem to find the answer there. Agathiyar keeps surprising me with his various approaches to solving our issues.

Recently, I was reading your post where you mentioned about the movie "Transcendence" which you recommend to watch and understand how Agathiyar communicates with you. I watched the movie and maybe I got the clue you indicated. Agathiyar can choose any medium or any person or any route to convey his message to us since he is consciousness personified. I felt that he communicates to me through my mobile phone and specifically through your blog posts. This is strongly felt by me after watching the movie and understanding the clue you wanted us to decipher. Not sure if I am right, maybe you could help me with this. Hope I am not going too far in my own imagination.

Also, I came across your post on doing Homa for Siva with the Mrithyunjaya mantra. Immediately, I got the idea to join you and pray for the well-being of everyone. I am also doing a short but simple Homa daily in my room. Let's hope we come out of the mess we created ourselves in this wonderful world.

I wanted to congratulate you and appreciate the great work that you are doing.

I should be honest that I am still not 100% into the Siddha path. .... I have always been highly skeptical and take my own time to believe in someone. But your posts kept me encouraged for the last 8-9 months and they still continue to inspire me nevertheless. Hopefully, Agathiyar would stop testing me and give me the clarity and confidence to grow on the Siddha path by introducing the right persons like you.

When most just want the knowledge, here is someone who has actually put into practice what he reads. These are the seekers that Agathiyar has mentioned he wants. These are the seekers who would keep the Margam or path alive. We do not become Siddhas just be merely talking about the path. Agathiyar and the Siddhas tell us they only share what worked for them and expect us to follow, adopt and put it into practice. This clearly tells us that enlightenment does not come on its own nor is it granted but only with practice and effort is it attained, just as they had done and attained.

A TIME TO GIVE BACK

This is the story of two sisters and how they cared for their ailing parents since 2019 and had to fight the pandemic that is claiming victims daily in current times. The younger sister had tested positive and was asked to self-quarantine in her in-law's home. On discovering that she was positive, she asked the divine that her father whose state was worrying be around until her quarantine ended when she could be at his bedside to serve him. Meanwhile, their father was admitted for health issues followed by their mother. Their parents later tested positive too. The elder sister who is a doctor was equally helpless when both the parents were found to be positive. She had lost her father-in-law to the virus earlier. She shuttled between attending the patients at the hospital and her parents and her child. Lord Shiva came in the younger sister's dream and told her to recite the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and the Dhanvantri Mantra. He told her that he shall extend and prolong her father's life another 15 days. Immediately after her quarantine, the younger sister rushed to be at his bedside. She sat with him day and night as he required continuous monitoring. If it was at any other time they could have managed well, but the pandemic took its toll on the sisters. But amidst all this chaos, there were moments of consolation too. Their parents were lucky to get beds and medicines. The younger sister had asked that her father should acknowledge their presence as she wanted him to know that they were there with him during his last days. The father who all this while could only show some gestures spoke a couple of days later asking if she and her husband had eaten. If she had asked to be with him just for a day the good Lord held him back for another five days. He was cremated yesterday. May his soul be placed in a high place.

When a prayer is said for an individual the divine is seen to act immediately. When it concerns humanity as in this current times of the pandemic, I guess as many chess pieces have to be moved there seems to be a long delay. Lord Shiva told us that it shall take time for the pandemic to go away. Agathiyar assured us that it will subside, but there was no date nor time frame given. What they gave us was a task and a responsibility. We were to chant the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and the Dhanvantri Mantra daily and perform a Homam weekly which we have been doing diligently. Just as an individual needs to put in a concerted effort and maybe carry out certain remedies to bring about a change in his life, when it involves the public and world at large, we are being brought together (in these times of lockdown in our individual homes) to make the change happen through collective prayer. I guess they want our participation too rather than sweeping it away by performing miracles. They want us to actively participate and give it all our full attention. If in lighting the Homam in a public place or a common venue, as the chant or recitation is carried out, those sitting around and attending to the fire pit would be on alert, placing the offerings in a timely manner as the mantra ends with Svaha translated as "so be it." One has to be on the alert that the flame does not die down. Another has to refurbish the wood, ghee, and other stuff when it is emptied into the burning fire. If those feeding the flame are focussed on the ritual, the gaze of the passive participants at these rituals in normal times would begin to roam around the venue after a while and their thoughts move away and linger on personal matters. Even before the ritual begins the hosts are all focused on its preparation making sure nothing is left out. The thought and action revolve around the ritual days before it is carried out. In active participation, our mind does not wander but is focused on the task at hand. Hence, carrying out the Homam with the family is effective in delivering our prayers and the message across, for each one gets to actively participate in all manners hence their attention and thought fixed on the ritual. Just as we are told that we only remember things later if we are attentive at the moment, the collective action, thought and attention of all gathered is required to produce the desired results. 

If there was a time that we were asked to give back to the Prapanjam what we had taken from it, in current times we are asked to collectively cleanse it of all the debris that we have hurled onto it and to heal it. It is satisfying to learn that we too have a small role to play in praying for the pandemic to come to a close. Lord Shiva came to endorse through these sisters that what we were doing currently is right. We are and shall all engage in reciting both these mantras. Those who are able to shall carry out a small homam or lighting of the fire pit in their individual homes with their family returning what is provided by the Prapanjam back to it in the form of fire and smoke to cleanse and heal it. Those who were shown the way to tap into the Prapanajam its pranic energy, and shown the relevant techniques of pranayama to enhance it, shall induce the said mantras and energize it further, and return the renewed energy back to the Prapanjam to cleanse and heal it. Our prayers are now directed towards and for the Prapanjam. Now it has to open its doors and show some mercy on us. 

As Agathiyar said of any healing, the doctor's procedures amount to two-thirds of the process while the other third is dependent on our karma, remedies, prayers, reaching out to the Prapanjam, and finally, the divine's mercy, let us support the researchers, health officials and scientists who are burning the midnight oil developing enhanced vaccines to combat the virus that is mutating aggressively. WHO reports that "Vaccines may need to incorporate more than one strain when in development, booster shots may be required, and other vaccine changes may be needed." Let us support the medical profession that is toiling day and night to treat victims knowing too well that they shall be in danger of contracting it too, with our prayers and rituals and in all ways possible. Most importantly let us step forward to take the vaccine and adhere to the preventive measures given thus reducing the workload of the medical team by staying safe. WHO appeals to all that "While we are learning more, we need to do everything possible to stop the spread of the virus in order to prevent mutations that may reduce the efficacy of existing vaccines." FEAR OF DEATH

Srinatha Raghavan posted the following enlightening conversation on Fb some time back,

In Banares, I happened to meet a young Aghori or a Tantrik, on the ghats of Manikarnika. As I was just staring into the pyre of death, He came and sat beside me and struck a seamless conversation.

He: Death is as temporary as Life?
Me: Yes.

He: Do you know why Death (Yama) & Time (Kala) are so feared?
Me: No.

He: Because they are least understood?
Me: True.
Me: How to understand Death?
He: By experiencing it, even when alive.
Me: And how do we do that?
He: Under the guidance of a Guru, you can experience Death.
Me: What is Death?
He: There is nothing called as Death?
Me: What?

He: Death as we know it, is just physical cessation of the Body and it's functions.
Me: Yes.

He: But what made the Body once tick, the spark of life, lives on and just like a drop of Water that has turned into Vapour, it goes back to become one with the whole.
Me: Interesting.

He: What is more interesting is what happens after that?
Me: What would that be?

He: It's the way the whole game once again, when the droplet separates itself from the whole to become an individual again.
Me: That's true.

He: Thus the play of life and death continues, till the drop has finally lived it's share of desires to assume a form and lives happily as a part of the formless whole.

Then giving me some Bhasma and a Rudraksha, as a parting gift, He said, "May this Bhasma ever remind you of the impermanence of life and death and the Rudraksha of the latent Divinity that lay hidden within you, which is nothing less than Shivahood?"

"Thus the play of life and death continues, till the drop has finally lived it's share of desires to assume a form and lives happily as a part of the formless whole."

Our life is just a chapter from a novel. There was a chapter before and another waiting to unfold. Existence itself is a compilation of past stories and future sequels. I have a story. You have a story each day. Each man has a story to tell. We exchange our stories. The world is a fairy tale. What was a fairy tale slowly becomes bitter-sweet and finally bitter for many. But for some, the entry of others brightens their lives. These souls brush their aura onto us. The children sure do that. Life is a cheer with children around. Then life becomes a responsibility as they grow up. Life throws a new meaning with the coming of the guru. Henceforth our lives are written in gold by the guru. He sets our priorities right. He removes the fear. As we learn from the above conversation "To understand death is by experiencing it, even when alive", the guru is said to teach us to experience it. 

When a sudden sneeze that came on as I was crossing the street one day in 2016, brought back the pain I suffered in 2011 and 2012 in the lower back and my legs, Lord Muruga reminded me through a Nadi reading for a friend, "Do not invite Death!" Although his words were harsh I knew he meant well and out of concern for me. He told me not to invite Yama, the Lord of Death, willingly. I took it as a reminder to care for the body well and to live life to the fullest. The Siddhas have given us all the means and mechanisms to live longer and keep Yama at bay. Their priority was to upkeep, maintain and sustain the body, in the peak of health; to ensure only enriching experiences were recorded onto the soul; eventually, merge the spirit within with the source or as the young Aghori or a Tantrik says "the drop lives happily as a part of the formless whole."

In these trying times of the pandemic hovering over us, my wife told me "Let us live life one day at a time. Let us live moment to moment." Those who have been spared and come out alive after a tragedy, mishap, illness, etc should look back at their lives and look for a new purpose hereafter as many did. Like many who saw a wider spiritual connection upon emerging from the onslaught, Sr. Barbara Stanbridge who previously had a near-death experience before coronavirus, in talking to the "National Catholic Reporter" says about her experience, "I guess there is something left for me to do." 

David Goh who was injured in a bomb blast during one of his mission works in Myanmar wrote in his book "Divine Blast" that God can turn our tragedy into triumph if we let him in a crisis. 

Betty J Eadie who came back from a near-death experience reveals the secrets of heaven in her book "The Awakening Heart - My Continuing Journey to Love", a Pocket Star Book, 1996. She says just as we have choices here, we are also given choices in our father's abode. While some souls respond to God's call, volunteering and choose to listen and accept his will before coming to earth, others receive a calling after they arrive, when their hearts open to God, through intense sufferings or through miracles, and eventually, they become vessels of God themselves.

Thus with our health regained we should work towards the course of bringing happiness and joy to others' lives if we have yet to. For others, there might be a need to carry out a specific mission be it for the spiritual advancement or the good of humanity that they are now reminded of. For yet others who have not awakened to their purpose, or have yet to take up the call, a tragedy, mishap, illness, etc might just do that. 

In these trying times, we looked up to the scientist and medical profession for a cure, a vaccine, and a solution. It has come. We thank them. Not even the religious heads come to mind then. We rushed to the hospitals. A mere thank you would not suffice. We need to appreciate their sacrifice for humanity. We can choose to stay home and be safe; schools can close; businesses have an option to stay open or close; government departments can close down partially; but not hospitals and the healthcare system. While I have the luxury to keep myself safe at home within the four walls, the medical team does not have that luxury. They cannot stay at home for they are needed. I see them next to God in these times of crisis. Their role has gone beyond the corridors of the hospitals to the burial grounds now where they deliver the dead bodies back to dust. Yes, indeed it is true that God comes in many forms.

FACING DEATH

If in the past we received the news of a death every once in a while, we are currently in the midst of witnessing many deaths take place around us as a result of the pandemic. We pray for those who call in to place a prayer, that the victim should recover. If that was not to be, accept the fact. Accept the reality of life. Pray then that they should not suffer further. Let them go. If the person cannot be saved even after all the best medical care is given our prayer should then be to ask that they should not suffer further and that their soul when it departs is placed in a high place or order. But that does not come easy for most of us. We panic, cry, become stressed out, become frustrated that there is no improvement and change, become depressed, and start the blame game blaming others including the doctors and God, as our close ones lie before us in a coma or sedated. Why burn ourselves out? The doctors are there. They know what needs to be done. Let them do their work. If they fail rest assured that they have given their best in wanting to save our kith and kin and that God has other plans for them. Our job is only to pray silently that our loved ones should recover. We need to be there for them if they do survive or do the last rites if they don't. Agathiyar always reminds us to let go of the souls when they are ready to depart. Any interference on our part shall disrupt the journey of the souls. Death is not the end of the journey. Life although ends here with our death, the soul lives on.  Though it is the end of one's lifespan, the soul lives on and on and on forever. For instance, Tavayogi was said to be a very old soul having lived during the times of Agathiyar. He came back for us.

The night Buddha attained enlightenment, he went through several stages of awakening. One of it was where he had the recollection of his previous lives. Sogyal Rinpoche in his book "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying", HarperSanFrancisco, 1993, quotes Buddha’s "The Middle Length Sayings" originally quoted in H.W.Schumann's "The Historical Buddha", London, Arkana, 1989. The author narrates Buddha’s experience. In the first watch, he saw his past lives. 

"I remembered many, many former existences I had passed through: (he mentions a hundred thousand - SH) in various world-periods. I knew everything about these various births: where they had taken place, what my name had been, which family I had been born into, and what I had done. I lived through again the good and bad fortune of each life and my death in each life, and came to life again and again. In this way I recalled innumerable previous existences with their exact characteristic features and circumstances. This knowledge I gained in the first watch of the night." 

In the second watch of the night, Buddha gained knowledge of karma. 

"With the heavenly eye, purified and beyond the range of human vision, I saw how beings vanish and come to be again. I saw high and low, brilliant and insignificant, and how each obtained according to his karma a favorable or painful rebirth." 
Although it is difficult for all of us to accept death, especially in large numbers during this pandemic, I guess the pandemic is here to bring an awakening to us. It is here to teach us the impermanency of life and to respect and pay gratitude to life and its creator, the Prapanjam. We have come to realize that we are fragile too and need to be handled with care. And many more lessons perhaps. So when Fr. Alejandro López-Cardinale told the "National Catholic Reporter" that he couldn't even pray as the exhaustion as a result of the Coronavirus was paralyzing, it reminds us of Agathiyar's reminder to sing the praise of God and call out his name while we can, while we are hale and healthy. Never postpone God till later. Take him with us. Start early so that he comes along with us. If we decide to call him only when we are dying, it might be too late.

As Agathiyar says, "At that moment of inability, immobility, and gone senile, or with acute illness; When kapam or phlegm arises and my tongue quivers; When vayu or the vital air comes to a halt, and all senses seize to function, and my soul begins to leave; At that hour when death approaches me; When all that I thought was mine suddenly is of no significance and importance at the time of death, When Yama's servants appear to bind and take me away; When my next of kin surround my death bed and wail and cry out, ....... I might not be able to utter your name; I am not sure if I will remember you; I am not sure if I would be thinking of you; I don't know if your thought will arise in me, Oh Lord .... hence I take this opportunity to sing your praise right now at this very moment while I am still hale and healthy; hence I am remembering you now Lord Narayana, please take heed of my calling; hence I am calling you now so that you would appear then to save me, Lord Narayana; hence I call out to you now so that you come to my aid then; hence I pray that you would come then Lord Narayana; hence I cry out for you my Lord this very moment so that you would appear to save me during my final moments!"

This is the right moment for us to reset ourselves and attune to these higher energies. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in his book "Science of Being and Art of Living", a Meridian book, 1995, says "Expansion of happiness is the purpose of creation." Instead what has happened is "the expansion of suffering that is a result of destruction." Nature was happy till man encroached, invaded, raped, plundered, and enslaved her for his selfish needs. We turned into monsters and miserable beings, losing the happiness that we knew once existed in us. When many prophesized the end of the world was near in 2012 with some masters predicting that asteroids would be on a collision course with the earth and the world would come to a standstill momentarily, revert anticlockwise and regain its normalcy later, bringing forth a new world, and a new understanding, having erased the earlier memories much as in formatting the hard disk, however much I liked the idea, it did not take place. While I welcomed that particular prediction, my teen daughter then told me, "Papa, why do you pray that the world should end. I haven't even started to live life yet!" It made sense. It was said later to be postponed to 2018. It did not happen either. These were predictions given by Rishis. They could never go wrong. Could it be that the mode and method of destruction had changed with all the prayers that went in as people feared the world would come to an end? Would the said catastrophe take another form then by their grace, maybe with minimal damage to the world? 

In "BBC Earth - The Planets S1 - The Godfather" Professor Brian Cox explains that "without Jupiter (whom he regards as the Godfather of the planets) we would not be here." Once in the distant past ", the young planet went on a rampage. The giant planet embarked on a voyage of destruction across the solar system that transformed the destiny of the planets and the course of life on earth. The Godfather of the planet paved the way for us to inherit the earth. Although it flings rocks from the asteroid belt our way it also protects us. Jupiter intervenes becoming an effective shield. Rocks are captured by Jupiter's gravity and forces tear it apart - its journey cut short." In astrology, Jupiter is akin to the Guru. Planets are known to either favor or harm but Agathiyar says with the grace of the Siddhas they become guru or mentor. 

A Yogi was said to have turned to a couple of friends on the banks of a river and reminded mankind that the worst was yet to come referring to the predictions that never took place back in 2012. Did he mean the current pandemic? Are they telling us that they are still in charge and their finger is still resting on the reset button? Are they forcing us to change our ways and bring on drastic changes in our lifestyles, faith, and believe by throwing in the pandemic? 

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi says that there is one Being, "the absolute existence of unmanifested nature." He says "its tendency to vibrate and manifest is referred to as prana or in other words, Being vibrates by virtue of prana and manifests." If only when it moves we know there is wind. If only when it moves we know there is life. Both these are only possible when there is prana. Only then we see manifestation take place. Otherwise, it is inert or in an unmanifested state of nature. All that is seen and unseen is an expression of prana. 

Agathiyar says there are both the seen and unseen and although sight has its limitations, one thing that reaches out and is felt by all is vibration. He tells us that he is the vibration referring particularly to the vibration that arises and becomes pretty obvious when we connect with him in prayers, in performing rituals, in doing charity, in meditation, in connecting with the Prapanjam, and whenever he comes. Lord Shiva in finally answering our prayers, wants us to tap the prana from the Prapanjam, intensify it within, and further strengthen and energize it by the recitation of both the mantras of Lord Shiva and Lord Narayana and use this intense vibration in cleaning it. Would this immense energy that manifests as Agathiyar then take on the pandemic? Would Agathiyar who is known to perform Siddhis take on the Siddhi of Aṇima or the ability to become smaller than the smallest, reducing his body to the size of an atom, and wipe out the virus that is minuscule for our sake? If Lord Shiva had invoked Agathiyar to manifest to bring stability to the world in the past as we are told, could he be invoking Agathiyar again to help us rid the world of the pandemic? Just as when righteousness is at its lowest ebb and evil reigns in the world, when the needs of the world, cosmic necessities, and the needs of its inhabitants propel the divine to descend, where the un-manifest takes the manifested form could Agathiyar save us?

It is possible, knowing that Agathiyar told my daughter that he and Tirumular came to raise her blood count when she was down with dengue and he had a hand in the eye operations that both of us went through. As Agathiyar says while man chooses to only believe when a miracle happens the Siddhas say belief and it shall happen, we shall choose to believe. Meanwhile, let us continue following Lord Shiva's command.

WORDS OF WISDOM IN TIMES OF STRESS

As friends call up to ask us to pray either for them or their spouse, or family members who have been tested positive we are shaken too to think that the Coronavirus has reached out to them too. Talking to them to a certain extent could help bring some calm. Having prayers asking the Good Lord to bring quick relief most certainly would go a long way in helping them for a survivor tells the National Catholic Reporter at https://www.ncronline.org/news/coronavirus/spiritual-insights-shared-after-recovery-coronavirus-demons, that he experienced "the worst days of my life. I couldn't even pray. The exhaustion was paralyzing."  "He suggested, those who are confronting the illness turn off the steady drumbeat of news about the massive impact of the pandemic. Too much information can sap the spirit."

Another survivor says that "Prayer helps, particularly when there is a close relationship with God." She adds that "her encounter with the virus provided an opportunity to focus on what is most important. "Be willing to slow down," she suggested. "And live in gratitude." "I guess there is something left for me to do," she thought upon emerging in recovery." "The virus is a wake-up call. I don't get a sense that we're listening. I'm very concerned about where we are. It's no joke to say we are having plagues of biblical proportions," she said."

As support groups would help provide emotional support we started one, the AVM Support Group for a brief moment to share tips and prayers, and words of motivation. 

Vanakam. The need has arised to come together in times of need to extend our support to each other. Let us pray that Agathiyar and Lord Murugan can convince Lord Siva to show mercy and grace on humanity.

Once Lord Shiva's message came through and as we all knew how he wanted us to contribute and do our part in combating the pandemic we dissolved it.

Some see it as Spiritual Warfare requiring spiritual remedies in the face of spiritual danger as we read at https://trafo.hypotheses.org/24172. It is heartening to read that "This means that the spiritualization of Corona by praying for divine intervention does not necessarily mean that people disregard the importance of ‘scientific’ measures such as washing hands to limit the spread of contagious diseases such as COVID-19."

Deepak Chopra says "In a time of crisis, the impulse is to give into fear, concern, and panic, which will engender an epidemic of soul sickness." He says millions of people experience a sick soul. He gives some pointers in improving the state of our souls at https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/03/deepak-chopra-the-coronavirus-and-need-for-spiritual-wellness.html. 

Could this then be a test of our soul power or Atma Balam? How then do we strengthen our soul? Dr. Zhi Gang Sha's in his book "The Power of Soul", Atria Paperback, NY, 2009, writes,

Your soul is the greatest resource for your intelligence. To realize this is the first step. To receive soul intelligence, wisdom and knowledge to transform your life is the second step. To develop your soul intelligence, wisdom and knowledge further is the third step."

In short, to realize, to receive, and to develop the soul intelligence gained in many lifetimes. The Dr. on speaking about plants and herbs and their medicinal properties, says that "The soul or message of the herbs carries the healing power of the physical herbs. People can and have applied the message or soul of the herbs for healing and received great results. The soul of the herbs knows exactly what needs to be done for healing. We do not need to tell them what to do. The soul stores its own intelligence and has its own abilities to serve." 

This makes sense now as we are asked to connect with the Prapanjam and tap into its energy and pass it on to others and back to the surrounding. As we reach out and gather the healing power of all these souls present as Dr. Zhi Gang Sha says, in everything in the physical world, be it each organ in the body, the house, the ring, the business, etc we are pulling together the inherent strength of all these souls to manifest into a gargantuan energy that shall be used to combat the virus. "To pray is to ask a soul to heal, bless and transform", says the Dr.

In telling us that "If you do not give sincere gratitude and respect (for instance) to the souls of your knees your knee souls will not listen to your order and will not serve you very well", Dr. Zhi Gang Sha is telling us to "Always remember gratitude and respect." Let us thank and respect the Prapanjam and join forces with it to combat the common enemy. 

THE EVOLUTION OF THE SOUL

Pon. Govindaswamy in his book "The Occult Hierarchy and Spiritual Dynasty - The Inner Government of the World" or "திருச்சிற்றம்பலம் என்ற சிற்சபையும் பொற்சபையும்", Bharath Book Bureau, Chennai, 1970, writes,

Spirit or Pasu is one. When seen as matter it is called an atom, when subtle it is known as the soul. Souls evolve from the elemental kingdom to the mineral kingdom. From the mineral kingdom, it evolves to that of the vegetable kingdom. It further evolves into the animal kingdom. Then it stands at the threshold of the human kingdom. The man then evolves into Jeevan Mukta. The Jeevan Mukta proceed to become Devas. The Devas eventually reach the state of the Divine. The souls evolve accordingly to the law of evolution. 

உயிர் அல்லது பசு ஒன்றே. சடமாகக் காணும்போது அணு என்றும், சித்தாகக் காணும்போது ஆன்மா வென்றும் வழங்கப்படுகின்றது. ஆன்மாக்கள் பூத வர்க்கத்திலிருந்து தாது வர்க்கத்திற்கும்; தாது வர்க்கத்திலிருந்து தாவர வர்க்கத்திற்கும்; தாவர வர்க்கத்திலிருந்து விலங்கு வர்க்கத்திற்கும்; விலங்கு வர்க்கத்திலிருந்து மானிட வர்க்கத்திற்கும்; மானிட வர்க்கத்திலிருந்து ஜீவன் முக்தர் வர்க்கத்திற்கும்; ஜீவன் முக்தர் வர்க்கத்திலிருந்து தேவர் வர்க்கத்திற்கும்; தேவர்க்கத்திலிருந்து கடவுளர் வர்க்கத்திற்கும் பரிணாம நியதிப் படி பரிணமித்து வளர்ந்து கொண்டே போகிறது. அதாவது ஆன்மாக்களின் பிரஞ்ஞை உணர்வு விரிவடைந்து கொண்டே போகிறது. இந்த ஆன்ம வள ர்ச்சிக்கு எல்லையில்லை 

As it progresses the soul's consciousness expands taking in its experiences at each juncture of the evolution. This was clearly stated by Saint Manickavasagar in his Sivapuranam. So the idea is to merge the individual spirit or Pasu with the Pati or the divine spirit, the individual soul or Jeevatma with the Paramatma. The soul gains this knowledge as it achieves the state of a Jeevan Mukta.

In samsara, the awareness of atma is restricted; but it attains fullness in the mukti state. Ignorance is caused by the sorrow of birth and jnana can remove this. This is gained by Vedanta knowledge that points out Siva as the goal to be attained. 

From the "Metaphysics of Saiva Siddhantam - Sivagnana Boodham" by Thiruvilankar Canagarayar, l96l, we learn further,

Jivan Mukta is one who has attained Pati Jnanam, the Divine Knowledge. In order to achieve complete purity, the Jivan Mukta should become one with the Lord, just as He is one with him. Jivan Mukta is one with Siva. Further he should do all acts in obedience to His orders, and whatever he does should be reckoned as the acts of God, and not of his own. This is called “Erai Pany” (Service to God).

This was what was decreed to Arjuna on the battlefied by Lord Krishna too. The discourse was between the individual soul and that of Paramatma. From https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Arjuna we are given an insight into the relationship between Arjuna and Lord Krishna. 

Together, the inseparable friendship between Krishna and Arjuna represent the cosmic inseparability of Brahman and atman, or the essence of the universe and the soul, one of the fundamental ideas of Hinduism. 

"Metaphysics of Saiva Siddhantam - Sivagnana Boodham" states the means the Jeevan Mukta merges with the Paramatma.

If the Jivan Mukta meditates on these five letters for a long time, Kundalini will be stimulated and will pass through the Atharas, the centers in the nervous system; and reach Sahasrara in the forehead. By this meditation, all the Malams will be destroyed by the Sakti of Siva, and Siva will appear to him in the form of a light. The soul becomes united with Siva. Then he recognises that “Siva is He". 

The Malams are considered Pasam which adhere to the soul and they are anava, karma, and maya. From https://www.thehindu.com/society/faith/siva-the-supreme-lord/article34320911.ece we learn further,

Siva is the creator of the entire prapancham including the Trimurtis. The prapancham is His sarira. He controls the jivas who are the Pasu and He is not affected by Pasa or Pasu. The sadana advised is worship and meditation on Siva who alone can cut the bonds attached to the immortal soul.

Of the seven stages of evolution as revealed by Pon. Govindaswamy, before the soul attains the divine state, the Jeevan Mukta evolves further progressing along margas or paths and attaining a further seven advanced states or portfolios. Of the seven one of it is membership to the Occult Hierarchy and Spiritual Dynasty. Joining this lineage of spiritual masters, while still remaining on the face of the earth, the Jeevan Mukta takes up the post and the task of bringing others to their fold. This is what the Siddhas do, trying their very best to bring us into their fold, their path, and the way, helping to erase past karma through numerous means, escaping from its clutches, and so that we break the cycle of birth and death, and permanently join these spiritual masters in carrying out the divine will. For one who carries out the divine will, no karma attaches. He is freed. And so as we progress on this path of evolution, it is expected of us and our responsiblity too to help those souls in the lower stages of evolution to attain the higher states too. This was very clearly mentioned in the Tenets for Mankind presented by Agathiyar at the Tamil Sangam of the past era.

ஜீவன் முக்தர்களுக்கு மேற் கொண்டும் வளர்ச்சிக்கான ஏழு விதமான உயர் பதவிகள் அடையும் மார்க்கங்கள் உள்ளன. திருச்சிற்றம்பலத்தின் திருக்கூட்டத்தில் சேர்ந்து இவ்வுலகில் தங்கி அதன் அந்தரங்க அருளரசாட்சியில் பதவி ஏற்று இறைவன் சங்கல்பத்தை அறிந்து உலகில் அவனது ஆணையை மேற்கொண்டு செயல்படுவது அதில் ஒன்று. சில ஜீவன் முக்தர்கள் தமக்குக் கீழ் படிகளில் உள்ள ஆன்மாக்களை மேல் நிலைக்குக் கைத்தூக்கிவிடவும் இறைவனின் பரிணாம நியதிக்கான ஆணையை மேற்கொண்டு நடத்தவும் இவ்வுலகின் அந்தரங்க அருளரசாட்சியில் பதவி யேற்று பனி செய்யத் திருச்சிற்றம்பல திருக்கூட்டத்தில் சேர்ந்தனர். அவர்களே மக ரிஷிகளாவர்  இவ்வாறு விகாச முறையில் பரிணமித்துக் கொண்டு போகையில் மேற்படியில் உள்ளவர்கள் கீழ்ப்படிவில் உள்ளவர்களைக் கைதூக்கி விட வேண்டும் என்பது நியதியாகும். ஆதலால் நாம் மேல் நிலைக்குப் போக வேண்டுமேயானால் அதற்கு ஒரு சாதனம் நாம் நமக்குக் கீழ் நிலையில் இருக்கும் ஜீவர்களைக் கைதூக்கி விட வேண்டியது நமது இன்றியமையாத கடமையாகும்.

P.Karthigayan writes in his book the "History of Medical and Spiritual Sciences of Siddhas of Tamil Nadu", Notion Press, 2016,

"According to ancient literary records of the Tamils, the Sangam 1 was an organization of 4449 poets in total: of whom Gods (Siva, Kumaran, Kubera), immortals (Agathiyar, Mudinaagaraayar) and mortals (kings, poets, and prominent people) were 549 in number, and the rests of them were members of their literary assembly." 

He writes that the immortals guided the kings on uplifting their subjects. He says "The immortals formed the folklore, while the long-lived preserved them in the form of stones, clay tablets, papyrus, palm leaves, and these later were rewritten in modern scripts by bards and priests, as literature and epics, that became a history of the respective civilizations. The Gods, immortals, and long-lived were in due course included in religions of their respective societies." This tradition of documentation seems to have been continued by the Chola king who reigned from 985–1014 ce where he had numerous sacred texts collected and compiled and kept them away save for generations to come.

The Siddhas thrived to elevate the human species to that of the nature of the Gods. Agathiyar presented the 5 tenets to mankind at the Tamil Sangam, so that mankind shall gain salvation. This is true of them for till this day they have never given up on us although we tend to give up on them in the face of adversities. Agathiyar is said to have initiated human societies of that era into the age-old cultural order known as the Siddhar Neri. He imparted wisdom to its people and passed on the knowledge of medicine to many. P.Karthigayan points out that the Siddhas could achieve much during their times as they were bestowed with the gift of "performing spiritual, medical, and scientific marvels". "They claimed their presence in all locations, interacting with people over various periods of time", made possible due to their long life spans, and a result of attaining immortality. P.Karthigayan says that the Gods, immortals, and long-lived kings, and scholars "had chiseled and shaped the society then." We now understand Agathiyar's disappointment on seeing the present society and lamenting to us that no one follows the Siddha way of living. 

The 5 tenets list the purpose of the soul in finally attaining the much desired state that is yearned for that of a human birth that is considered rare and that only comes by after thorough "consultation with the lunar forefathers and their angelic hierarchies that co-exist with us down here." But there are souls we are told that come neither with a purpose nor to evolve further but only to live out their karma. These says Agathiyar are the Bhogis bent only on living a life of pleasure or suffering as their karma deems appropriate. They do not evolve, do not contribute and perish at the end of their lifespan without living a trace of their existence that can be considerd a purposeful birth.

Agathiyar says that man has to first and foremost understand his purpose in taking birth. With his purpose known, he should come to thank the divine creator or energy that brought forth his birth, each divine in nature, each a buddha only if he realizes it. Having thanked the divine creator he gives thanks to all the caretakers both seen and unseen, in the present and the past. Then he is obliged to "dutifully aid and help, the ongoing evolution of all co-existing human beings." Finally he is dutifully bound to extend this aid and help, towards "the ongoing evolution of all co-existing beings and entities, existing upon the lower levels of the evolutionary ladder, dutifully supporting the manifested matrix or prapanjam." 

I came to know about this 5 tenets from Vashisht Vaid's post on his blog https://holysageagathiyar.com/. It came as an assurance and endorsement to us that we were on the right track as we were already engaged in carrying out all that was mentioned. We have the method, the 5 tenets, gifted to us and already in the palms of our hands yet we are looking out and far for a means to salvation. Let us uphold Agathiyars 5 tenets for a purposeful life for now. He has spoken about the next state, that of a Jeevan Mukta or a Siddha that is waiting for us, if only we make the effort to comply with the tenets. Agathiyar in finally revealing what we are to ask of him pointed us to ask for this state that of teaming up with the lineage before us and doing God's work. The ultimate asking dawned from within in those silent hours of contemplation and meditation in the midst of the Siddhas. It dawned on me that to seek his kingdom and to be one with his entourage (வாழையடி வாழை என வந்த திருக்கூட்டம்). This wish was put forth. Ramalinga Adigal came to endorse that this is what one should ask for. It is the ultimate yearning and desire that one should have. Instead of singling out and prioritizing our desires, and asking from this existing long list, with the entry into their ranks, all that is listed and everything else shall come into being and within our reach. This is the state of mukti often spoken about that one has to desire to reach for, where the individual soul or Jeevan attains mukti becoming a Jeevan Mukta.

The Siddhas are never satisfied with their students remaining a student forever. They do their utmost best to raise their students to the level of a guru at par with them or even excel them. Ramalinga Adigal and Dhanvantri tell us that Tavayogi is still trying his best to raise our consciousness. We are blessed indeed. It is indeed all about raising the consciousness. We take repeated births to raise our consciousness. 

Agathiyar narrates a story.

When his nation was facing severe drought and food shortage, a responsible king left the comfort of his palace and set out alone in search of any wise man who could show him ways to overcome his nations’ dilemma. The king in doing so lost his way and found himself in the woods. Fearing for wild animals that might prowl the forest at night, he climbed a tree and perched on the tree branch waiting for dawn to break. During the night he was awakened by voices below. On peering down from the tree branch he saw a Yogi and a young aid sitting below the tree engaged in a conversation. Hoping that these strangers might be of some help to him the king came down the tree to meet them. The king stretched himself before the Yogi as an act of respect. The king while doing so could not help hold back his tears and burst out crying. The Yogi came to know everything about the king the moment he laid eyes on him. He addressed the king, “The past actions of ours, follow us just as the shadow does. Your ancestors’ past action, your past action, and those of your subjects have given rise to the present situation and sufferings. If you want your kingdom and your subjects to regain its lost happiness, look for one who is unselfish, who remains aloft, and does not succumb to greed and other evils. Have his feet washed and conduct rituals as he ordains. Some good might then happen." The king immediately turns to the Yogi and pleads that he be the one to save him and his kingdom. But the Yogi mentions that he was there only to show the king the way and adds that he was not qualified to take the place of the said candidate and moves on. He turns back to the king and tells him to pray that the Lord shall show him the right candidate.

Seeking the one mentioned by the Yogi, the king comes upon the young man who had accompanied the Yogi earlier sitting alone under a tree. The king now pleads with the youngster to accept the responsibility to save his kingdom since he (the youngster) had been with the Yogi all this while. The lad questions the king that since his master himself had admitted that he (the Yogi) was not qualified, how could he being his student undertake this massive responsibility? The lad too walks away, refusing to fit into the said role.

Night set in and the king climbed up a tree to spend the night as he did all the nights. He was rudely awakened by loud voices this time. He observes from atop the tree branch. A group of decoits had robbed his subjects and were sharing the loot among themselves. The king confronts the decoits. The king tries to talk them out of their thieving activities but they justify that they are forced to steal to feed their families. They inform him that evil has taken an upper hand in the face of the calamities, hunger, and famine and in the absence of the king. They confess that they had to resort to thieving to keep themselves alive. The decoits seeing him clad in the princely robes mistake him for a merchant. They relieved the king of all his belongings and clothing before leaving him with only his undergarment. 

When dawn broke he came across an abandoned temple. He took a dip in the temple tank and walked into the deserted Shiva temple. He cried his heart out to the Lord asking for guidance; to show him the savior of his kingdom that was promised by the Yogi; and to help his citizens who have slowly turned to become decoits, now looting their own kind. The king entirely exhausted and drained of energy, and having reached a dead-end in his search for someone wise to guide him out of his predicament, surrenders himself to Shiva. He goes into a deep meditative state almost immediately. 

A few days went by. When he came out of his deep meditation he decided that he would not return to his kingdom but instead stay at the temple. He started to clean up the run-down temple making it his new home. He then took a vow not to leave the temple. He took the sole brass lamp to the lake and gave it a good wash and brushing. He spotted a “sikkimukki kal”, a stone used to ignite a fire in those days and located a worn-out cotton wick. But there was no oil to feed the flame. He gathered leaves and plants and extracted their juices to feed the flame but the flame died down. Thinking that he could use the fat and oil extracted from the meat of dead animals he looked around but was disappointed again. He tried water but failed to sustain the flame. Several days had passed by with the king attempting all possible means to keep the flame burning. Determined to light up and keep the flame going, he headed for the nearest rock formation and rubbed his hands on its rough surface until his palms started to bleed profusely. He collected his blood and fed the flame. To his surprise, the flame kept burning! He danced in joy. He then took a vow to keep the flame burning forever with his blood. When the flame died down he collected more blood even as the action hurt him. Although the king fainted on many occasions due to extreme pain and torture, he pursued. 

On a similar note, I was surprised to see Supramania Swami physicall and emotionally moved when he saw the flame he lit at his kudil had died down. He told me he had managed to keep it going all this while.

As days went by his worship and prayer which initially was centered on the welfare of his state and his people expanded to include all of God’s creation too. 

Radhanath Swami in retelling the story of Dhruva in his book "The Journey Within - Exploring the Path of Bhakti", Mandala Publishing, 2016, recounts a similar change in ideals or motive of the young saint. Despiced by his stepmother he leaves the palace "vowing to attain a kingdom greater than his father's." Learning yoga asanas and meditation from sage Narada, he achieves samadhi. Lord Vishnu appears before him telling him to ask for anthing he desired. 

"Dhurva had begun his yoga practice craving wealth, power, and revenge but meditating on the Supreme Beloved had lifted these burdensome feelings from his heart. He felt foolish for ever thinking they were important."

When Lord Vishnu asked him "What about the kingdom you wanted?" he replies "By you grace I have discovered the rarest of jewels in your love." This is the evolution and transformation that man should seek. The soul has evolved.

Continuing Agathiyar's tale of the king, one fine day, upon waking up, the king is surprised to see people gathered around him. They tell him, that they are from the neighboring kingdom (his kingdom) and relate to him what had taken place, not realizing that he was their sovereign. They told the king that they were directed to meet a Maha Yogi at this temple by a Yogi. The Yogi had asked that they convince and bring the Maha Yogi to their homeland and have him engage in some rituals that will reverse all the atrocities committed, bring on the rain that will make the land become fertile again. The king replied to them that there was no Maha Yogi at the temple. He told them that he was the only soul around for miles. But they insisted that he was the one identified by the Yogi and referred as a Maha Yogi. The Yogi had told them that the person whom they should seek for help would not have any attire on him except for his undergarment. He would be lean and undernourished and would have wounds on his palms. They had been searching in the direction indicated by the Yogi and found him at the temple. His citizens pleaded that he follow them, bless their homeland, and bring the much-needed change to their homeland and to inform them of the whereabouts of their long lost ruler. Not willing to listen to him any further, they picked him up and headed for their homeland. The moment they entered the outskirts of their homeland it began to rain cats and dogs. They headed straight for the palace and sat him on the king’s throne. The people come out of their homes and dance in joy.

At that moment the Yogi who showed the people to their king arrived at the assembly. The people fell at his feet. So did the king. The king recognized the Yogi as the one he had met in the forest. The Yogi "introduced" the king to his people and reiterated again that the king was now a Maha Yogi. The king was all the more disturbed when his subjects started to fall at his feet on hearing the Yogi proclaim him as a Maha Yogi in the audience. The Yogi went on to explain why he considered the king a Maha Yogi. When he felt compassion towards his subjects and went in search of a remedy and a solution; when he pleaded to the Lord to guide and show him the right man to bring cheer into his life and his subjects; and when he tried to convince his citizens who had turned into decoits due to prevailing circumstances not to sacrifice their good tendencies in the face of calamities, the king had won the battle and was halfway becoming a Yogi. Next, when he admitted that he was not fit to lead his people not knowing of a way to bring them out of their miseries, he had moved another step up the ladder in becoming a full-fledged Yogi. Later by bringing life into the abandoned temple and feeding the flame with his blood, he had proved beyond doubt that he had attained the state of a Maha Yogi. Finally, the Yogi said that one who was satisfied in his life is a Yogi and a Gnani. This is the identity of a true Gnani.

The Yogi explained that a sole flame that burns continuously is not an extraordinary feat, burning by itself, but when it lights up the lamp next to it, that is to be looked upon with high regard. Similarly, a true Gnani will want to ignite the spark of devotion and Gnanam in his disciple so that he too could glow with all the luminosity. Just as a miner shifts through the earth in the hope of seeing a tiny sparkle in the soil that would be of value, the Gnani seek the face of the earth vetting through the millions of people looking for a potential candidate who will listen to them and uphold their teachings, eventually becoming one of them. The Siddhas mention this lineage as "வாழையடி வாழை என வந்த திருக்கூட்டம்", "Valaiyadi Valaiyaaga Vantha Thiru Kuttam".

CALL OUT TO HIM NOW

It is wonderful how Agathiyar has brought much clarity to all the things discussed in this blog over time.  My journey and subsequently the recalling of my memories and experiences that are documented in these pages are published solely to bring awareness to the path of the Siddhas that had always been shrouded in secrecy in the many songs of theirs and that we can hardly comprehend. Rather than have us go through volumes and volumes of these Siddha texts, Agathiyar and my gurus had us walk the path. Bringing us to him through a calling to read the Nadi, he told us about karma, as the reason for all of man's sufferings, illnesses, delays, problems, troubles, etc, something that we were not aware of before. Due to his love for us, he went through our past records to reveal our past karma. He then spent some time with us telling us what needs to be done stating prayers, pilgrimages, charity, and remedies. Now the ball was in our court. If we believe in his words and respect them our next course of action would be to get on with carrying out all that was told. But if we were skeptical and suspicious, wondering if it was Agathiyar who spoke or the reader had coined it all up to get some dough from us, we would have left it as it is. This is where our story takes a diversion just as in the Tamil film "12B" that was based on the movie "Sliding Doors" where two stories run parallel, one if the lead character had boarded the bus and the other when he missed it in the former movie and if she had boarded the train or missed it in the latter movie. 

Similarly, our life tends to take a different course when we begin to believe. If we believed, our lives would work out differently from that if we had walked out as a disbeliever. In the former, the Siddhas tasked us to do things that would favor the burning of our past karma while in the latter karma would follow us like a dark cloud till the end. The choice is always ours to make. Anger, worries, suspicion, disillusion, confusion all can interfere in our decision as to believe or not to believe. If we walked away from the solution it can only be that our karma was so strong that even the little good that was waiting to happen to us has been intercepted by it. He has then to face life alone minus the company of the Siddhas.

For one who believed he would get on doing the prayers, charity, and remedies immediately. The obstacles will clear. The troubles will vanish. His problems will be solved. A classic example was when I and my wife were with a Nadi reader. Just then he asked us if he could see a Chinese lady first as she was wailing over the phone and wanted to walk in to learn of a solution. He also asked if we could translate Agathiyar's words. Just then she walked in as anticipated, crying aloud. We had no choice but to agree although I never liked listening on to other's personal stories and dilemmas. After she had gained control of her emotions, she narrated what had happened at her office. The Nadi reader walked into the adjacent prayer room and came back with a bundle of Nadi leaves. Agathiyar spoke. I was overwhelmed listening and translating it to her. That day I truly realized who Agathiyar was. He spoke firmly and assured her that her problems will go away. It was a Saturday. He told her to offer and place a lotus flower on a Shivalingam for three consecutive Sundays. That was all he asked for, telling her that he would either get the troublemaker out of the office or transfer her to a better place. We told her to do it the same day, and place another lotus the next day, a Sunday and for another two Sundays in a row. She left. As I and my wife had to see the Nadi again on Monday, and as we entered the office of the Nadi reader, he told us the good news that she had called him moments ago and told her that Agathiyar had solved her problem. What amazed us was that he had asked for ten days but settled her problem in three days, even before she had fully carried out the stated remedy. This was one of many success stories. And so we spread the word and many went to read their Nadi. Agathiyar through the Nadi gave solutions to their problems. 

But over time we realized that not all were success stories. There were some who never saw the results that they wanted or they desired nor were their wishes granted although they had undertaken prayers, charity, and remedies. A young girl who was caught in this net of karma was suffocating under pressure from peers and financial institutions as the financial burden now rested solely on her shoulders in the form of loans and repayments. Besides that, she had the responsibility of caring for her aged parents and a sister. I gave her the recipe for success, the magic formula that was handed down to us by gurus in the Siddha path including Tavayogi. To all those who came seeking solutions to their problems, they would listen out and tell them that it was vinai or karma that was the cause of all troubles. If they were interested to learn ways to overcome they would reveal that the Siddhas could help bring a solution. The choice is then theirs to seek the Nadi of the Siddhas or worship the Siddhas so that they show some mercy. The choice was theirs entirely, no compulsion of any sort and no promises made. Otherwise, they could go their way and deal with the problem themselves. But what the girl told me surprised me. She had done all these. The formula did not work for her. She was still in debt and troubled. Recently a single mother with two daughters in their twenties called me to share her problems. She had taken up the worship of the Siddhas since 2010 but nothing changed in her life. She had been to places of worship, met gurus, and joined movements under Agathiyar's name, but the Lord had yet to show mercy on her. The formula did not work for her too. I was left figuring what went wrong. This was worrying us as the prestige and honor of the Siddha's words were at stake. We had no answers. Neither did Agathiyar explain. But both these women were strong. They did not give up. They still had faith in the good Lord that things will change for the better. They are still battling the odds. So it seemed that some could come out of their karma while others could not. Some could come out of it of their own accord while others needed the Siddhas' help. 

But as the years went by we realized that the inner government and administration was not as simple as we had thought. There were many chess pieces to be moved especially for those whose lives were equally complicated. Though we realized that the troubles we faced were of our own making and we had brought upon ourselves such deep trouble I didn't have the heart to tell others so in their faces. Neither did the Siddhas. The Siddhas are very careful with their choice of words and refrain from hurting those who sought them. They would give them hope and continue to do so, even if it didn't seem that they could ever come out of it. I guess that they were fated to live the life destined. They had to face the music. There was no escape route. There was no consolation. Nothing was going to soften their landing. Does that mean God was cruel or biased? 

Just as many personal predictions never happened, so was it with the many predictions regarding matters of public concern that many asked of the Siddhas. Issues on nations, their direction and where they were heading, politics, about significant public figures, were answered. Many did not turn true or have yet to materialize. And now with the pandemic and numerous predictions dished out and carried in social media, we are yet to see positive results. 

Are we then victims of our own doings? Does the karma of those around us affect us? Does that of the society and nation have an impact on us too? It sure does seem to as we see in current times with the pandemic covering the face of the earth and hovering so close to home and making us unable to breathe the fresh air. Many have fell victims. Many we know have fell victims too. Although we had turned a blind eye on many issues before because it did not affect us directly and happened far away from home, now we are facing a common enemy on the level of a catastrophe where it looks like no one shall be spared. I could be the next victim. It has been a year and a half since it struck our shores too. We have lived in fear and continue to. With all the measures taken, yet we are not sure if we would be next. So we turn to God after having taken all the said precautions. We asked him for answers. He did answer our call for help. He set us to do rituals something that we had abandoned for a year and a half too taking heed of their directive to move from Sariyai and Kriyai to Yogam and Gnanam. They told us to turn to rituals in times of need. The need has arisen. While some lit the Homam as directed, I bathe him daily. At the same time, all the pressure they gave us to do Yoga Asanas and Pranayama during this period too paid off. It prepared us to be a vessel to contain the pranic energy from the Prapanjam. The many times Ramalinga Adigal came to initiate and show us the means to connect with the Prapanjam was for a reason too. We had to put to test what we had learned,  for they had us connect with the Prapanjam to heal the pandemic. It all falls into place now. They had prepared us well for the task. 

While all these works on the Prapanjam something very subtle is working within us too. I am beginning to see the result of the prayer that was asked of Lord Shiva that we carried out. We recited the Maha Mrityunjaya and Dhanvantri Mantra that keeps fear and danger away respectively. Although the fear of the virus is still out there the fear within has left. I have a new understanding of the situation on hand. To gain my composure and peace of mind I decided not to worry about the impending danger but rather bring a change in my mindset. Rather than brood and live in fear daily, I have surrendered to him the consequences of the impending dangers that lurk around the corner waiting for us to step out of our homes. If ill-prepared and protected we shall fall victim too. Hence we need to protect ourselves first. Besides that, we need protection from the Gods. The Greek phrase "The Gods help those who help themselves" is very much relevant here. Since I cannot fight the pandemic of this nature, I surrender to God. I have done and shall continue to do all that is dictated by him. As my wife said let us live from moment to moment in these times of uncertainty I shall spend some quality time with my family as we are kept captive indoors. 

So when a devotee who was on the verge of exhaustion and collapse caring for her parents tested positive feared for them, I tried to boost her spirit. After all the motivation did not sink in well I told her that it was time she faced the undeniable and accept the fact of the matter. I had to tell her that the change now has to come within her. She has to be strong to face the reality. I have seen single mothers manage their children with special needs alone since birth and never gave up on them. Neither did they desert them. These were strong women. Then there were the weak ones. I have seen women who deserted their children with special needs in the care of the grandmothers or orphanages and never returned for them. Agathiyar had always reminded us not to let down our guard and let down our spirit. Once we fail in these areas, karma hits us badly and no amount of procedures, treatment, and healing would save the soul respectively. 

As Agathiyar penned a song placing himself in our shoes I shall call out to Lord Narayana too. Agathiyar sees himself face old age and death and pleads for the grace and mercy of Lord Narayana in this song. So before we arrive there it is best we call out the name of the God Lord now, for when all the system fails, how are we to thank him. Let us thank him now while we are still alive, hale and healthy. 

At that moment of inability, immobility, and gone senile, or with acute illness, I might not be able to utter your name Oh Lord, hence I take this opportunity to sing your praise right now at this very moment while I am still hale and healthy.

At that hour when death approaches me I am not sure if I will remember you, hence I am remembering you now Lord Narayana, please take heed of my calling,

When kapam or phlegm arises and my tongue quivers, I am not sure if I will remember you, hence I am calling you now so that you would appear then to save me, Lord Narayana,

When vayu or the vital air comes to a halt, and all senses seize to function, and my soul begins to leave, I am not sure if I would be thinking of you, hence I call out to you now so that you come to my aid then,

When all that I thought was mine suddenly is of no significance and importance at the time of death, I am not sure if I will remember you my Lord, but nevertheless, I pray that you would come then Lord Narayana, hence I am calling you out now,

When Yama's servants appear to bind and take me away, I cannot promise that I would think of you, hence I call you now my Lord,

When my next of kin surround my death bed and wail and cry out, I don't know if your thought will arise in me, hence I cry out for you my Lord this very moment, so that you would appear to save me during my final moments! and so the song goes on.

என்பொருள் என்மனை என்றதெல்லாம் இனி

அன்று வரும் பொருட்டின்றழைத்தேன் அருள்

வந்தமெதூர் வளைத்து பிரித்தெனை

அந்தியம் நீ வர இன்றழைத்தேன்
ஸச்சிதானந்தனே ஹரி நாராயணா

 


This is what we should be doing daily for we might not be even able to say his name, let alone call out to him to save us in our hour of need. If he decides to take us with him so be it. That is total surrender only after all our concerted efforts have failed and never a second before. Only after we have given a good fight and not a second before. As Lord Krishna boosted the spirit of Arjuna when he laid his arms down on seeing the colossal catastrophe waiting to be unleashed in the Kurushetra war and wanted to back off and opt-out, let us battle this unseen enemy that is the size of atmospheric particles, fully protected as required by science and fully protected by the divine mantras. Besides these Lord Shiva asked us to use the Prapanjam as a shield. Let us be armed with science and religion and battle the Coronavirus.
