THE LOVING SIDDHAS

The gurus and the Siddhas are trying hard to bring us all to their state, so that we can see, hear, feel, and experience what they have seen, heard, felt, and experienced. I remember when Tavayogi tried his best to get me to see the extraordinary manifestation, call it magic or a miracle, telling me that Agathiyar in the granite statue at Agasthiyampalli was opening and closing his eyes. Agathiyar had told me that he would open his eyes to look at me at Agasthiyampalli in my Nadi reading before I left for India. I had not shared this with Tavayogi then. Once at Agasthiyampalli, as Tavayogi went into a state of meditation as he did in all the places we went, I recited Agathiyar's name, waiting for him to fulfill his promise. But nothing happened. After some time, as I opened my eyes, I noticed that Tavayogi, who was sitting before me, was not there. Getting up to look for him, I saw him standing in the open under the heat of the mid-morning sun, looking towards the temple. I joined him in the open. He asked me to come closer and look at Agathiyar. He then told me, "There he is opening his eyes! There he is closing them!" I could hardly see Agathiyar's statue in the dark chamber, much less see his eyes open and shut. As I strained my eyes to see this extraordinary and unbelivable phenomena, staring long, he knew I could not see it. In a disappointed tone, he then told me lets get back into the temple and snap some photos. Just as I began to sit where we had sat earlier on the floor, he stopped me and told me to enter the inner chamber, saying who is going to stop us. But out of respect to temple rules, I opted to sit at the doorway. Just as I was about to sit, pointing out the oil stains on the floor, he threw me his shawl to sit on. As I laid his shawl on the ground beam and turned to Agathiyar, there he was with a sheepish grin, smiling at me. His left eye was open! How is that possible in a granite statue? I was pretty sure that both his eyes were chiseled shut when we entered his temple. Since he had forewarned me that he would see me, I was watching his eyes throughout my stay here.

Agathiyar, coming through a devotee, tried his best to show me Lord Siva and Parvathi some years back. But I could see nothing. Then he moved on to show me something else that he told me to be tight-lipped and not reveal.

Ramalinga Adigal, each time he comes through devotees, helps us connect to the Prapanjam. He shares his state of bliss with us by hugging us tightly. He gets us to sing the Maha Mantra Arutperunjothi and immerse ourselves in this state, too.

In giving us practices in the Nadi reading, Agathiyar tells us that he was only giving those tried and tested methods that worked for them, too.

Just last Sivarathri, Agathiyar came through a devotee and began to work on each of us before sending us to sit in meditation during each of the phases of the night. At daybreak, he hugged us, passing on his bliss to us too, and sent us to sit and watch it manifest and work in us. Ramalinga Adigal, who came earlier, did the same, bringing us to engage with the Prapanjam.

Such is the magnanimity of love and compassion towards fellow humans that they struggle to bring us to their state, too. Should we not then listen to them?
