YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR

When Jnana Jyothi Amma went to visit a relative at the General Hospital, to her surprise she was called over to meet a Yogi, also admitted at the hospital. The Yogi blessed her, and spoke to his aid about Amma in Tamil. Only several years later did she come to know that the Yogi who called her over to his bedside and blessed her was Yogi Ramsuratkumar of Tiruvannamalai.

When I was with Supramania Swami on my second visit to India in 2005, I was blessed to witness a miracle in his (Swami’s) kudil. After all the formalities, later that night at 7.30pm, Swami led me on a prayer. His wife and son had gone out. He started chanting his guru, Yogi Ramsuratkumar’s name (Nama japam).

It went, "YOGI RAMSURATKUMARA, YOGI RAMSURATKUMARA, YOGI RAMSURATKUMARA JAYA GURURAAYA". As it was a simple mantra, I followed suite and chanted along.

After about a few minutes into the recitation I thought I heard a third voice - that of a male chanting together. I started to listen harder. In that quiet and silent moment, I could hear Swami’s voice. I could hear mine too. There was no one else in the kudil. Yet I could hear distinctly another voice. So who was this third person chanting with us?

I did not open my eyes. The mysterious voice continued chanting with us. Eventually after about twenty minutes, Swami ended the japam and the voice was not heard again. Imagine, I had wanted to ask him about this third voice throughout the japam, but completely 'forgot' about it as Swami made his way out of his altar room into the living room of his kudil.

Later upon returning to Tiruvanamalai after visiting Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal at Kallar, Supramania Swami suddenly asked me, “Did you hear the voice?” triggering my memory back to the first day at his kudil.

I remembered that I had actually heard a third person sing along with Swami and me. I ask Swami who it was. He gave a loud laugh. He answered, “That was Visiri Matai” referring to his guru Visiri Swami (Yogi Ramsuratkumar).

Although Supramania Swami had five gurus - his own father Jayaram Pillai was his guru, Pundi Mahan or Aatru Swami, Kollimalai Swami, Sathananda Swami and the Yogi himself, Swami chooses to invoke the Yogi at prayer. Was it his wish that I should witness this miracle take place and should know the greatness of the Yogi?

Such was the extend of devotion towards his guru by Supramania Swami that he could call upon him (Yogi Ramsuratkumar who had gone into samadhi on 20 February 2001) to appear among us. And such was the grace of the Yogi that he chooses to appear before his disciple.

Swami tells me the Yogi had appeared one late night, after having attained samadhi, at Swami’s home in the village of Nachanananthal. The Yogi presented a painting of himself to Swami before disappearing.

Just before I returned to Malaysia, I accompanied Swami to the Yogi’s ashram on a Pradosham day. Swami sat in front of the Nandi and was absorbed in watching the abhisegam for a long time. His gaze was fixed on the inner sanctum throughout the Pooja. What was he watching?

Swami very much wanted to move from his village closer to the hill and Yogi’s Ashram. So we built a kudil which was walking distance to Yogi’s Ashram. From the kudil one had a beautiful view of the hill. Swami had a small window provided for that enabled him to see the hill while reclining on his bed. But I noticed that he had closed up the window with a gunny sack. When I questioned him, he told me he could not see the hill anymore. His answer, "It was fire". The Yogi too was of this opinion. He was always saying that the hill was fire. Supramania Swami also told me he was seeing Siddhas moving and roaming on the hill.

When the Yogi was nearing his samadhi, sadly Supramania Swami was not allowed near him, as many others too, by opportunists who took control of the ashram. Nevertheless, as Swami was waiting to see the Yogi among the rests of the devotees, the Yogi sent for Swami. Only then did the Yogi attain samadhi.

Eager to know more about the Yogi, I looked around for information on him. I came across some beautifully written books on the Yogi.

1. BIOGRAPHY OF YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI (AMARAKAVIYAM), published by S.Parthasarathy - An elaborate account of Yogi’s life.

2. MEETINGS WITH YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR by Will Zulkowsky - The Yogi always preferred to be with Will.

3. YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE MYSTERY OF BECOMING GOD by Olga Ammann, published by Yogi Ramsuratkumar Bhavan Mauritius, 2008 – A beautiful book that brought me to tears. A must read book for all those in search of a guru and also for those who already have a guru. This book teaches us to cherish our gurus.

4. YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI by Truman Caylor Wadlington. The Yogi had personally asked Wadlington to write this book.

5. WAVES OF LOVE, published by Yogi Ramsuratkumar Bhavan Mauritius, 2009.

6. YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE DIVINE BEGGAR by Ma Devaki, published by Yogi Ramsuratkumar Ashram, Tiruvannamalai July 2008.

So who was this Yogi?

S. Parthasarathy has given a very elaborate account of Yogi’s life in his book, BIOGRAPHY OF YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI (AMARAKAVIYAM).

Parthasarathy writes,
‘Without adopting any rituals and not leaning on any traditional conditioned customs of the religion, Ram Surat Kunwar (the Yogi’s original name) braved his path with the pure faith upon his Guru and reached the other shore safely. Mysterious were the ways of the Masters who worked on him and brought him to Tiruvannamalai for the sake of his children who should also cross this mighty ocean of Samsara. Without preaching any conventional religious practices, Yogi asked the people to remember his own Name which would evolve them to the highest Spiritual State.’
Just going through some of Yogi’s statements from this book is sufficient to enable us to understand the Yogi. Even after several earlier visits to Swami Ramdas, Ramdas did not inspire the Yogi. The Yogi has this to say about his guru.
"Papa (Ramdas) did not allow this beggar to understand Him. The time was not ripe. This beggar had to wait till Papa Himself revealed His Divinity to this beggar, to make this beggar understand that Papa was his Father." – Yogi
Ironically when finally the Yogi accepted and surrendered to Ramdas, Ramdas did not receive him well.
‘Systematically Swami Ramdas and Mataji Krishnabai made Ram Surat Kunwar behave like a mad man and made the world believe that he had become mad. They drove him out of the ashram forcibly so that he would remember them constantly. They used harsh language whenever he was before them among the crowd of the devotees. By doing so Swami Ramdas and Mataji Krishnabai removed his ego totally. But it took a very long time. In the process, the pain, the sufferings he experienced were acute.’
‘Ram Surat Kunwar again asked Swami Ramdas to allow him and his family to live in the ashram. He said, “Papa, I have come here with the great faith that you would allow me with my family to live here. I am not able to work anywhere since the initiation. If you drive me away, where shall I go and how can I live?” Papa vehemently answered, “Go and beg. You cannot live in the ashram. There are enough people in the ashram to work. Remember, under a big tree, another big tree cannot grow. Only thorny bushes and grass alone will grow.” Ram Surat Kunwar shocked on listening to the words of his Master exclaimed, “Papa, should I beg for my food? Am I a beggar, Papa?” Papa, without answering, went inside. From that day Ram Surat Kunwar called himself a beggar. His Guru, His Master, His God asked him to beg and so he became a “beggar”.’
‘In later years Yogi Ramsuratkumar said “Nobody can love this beggar like my Father Swami Ramdas and nobody can torture this beggar like my Father Swami Ramdas. My Father killed this beggar because He loved this beggar. This beggar died at the holy lotus feet of my father Swami Ramdas in the year 1952. After that my Father alone exists and not this beggar. This name Yogi Ramsuratkumar is not this beggar’s name; it is the name of my Father. Father would always shower his grace on the people who remember this name.’
The Yogi has the following advice for other aspirants on this path,
“All your tapas and efforts would make you reach Guru’s Feet. Thereafter you need not bother about your spiritual growth. The Guru will take care of you. The Guru will see that you reach God. Even if you want to escape from the Guru, the Guru will not leave you. Like a frog in the mouth of a King Cobra, the disciple cannot escape from Guru. The only thing the disciple should do is remember the Guru and the Guru Mantra all the time. That is sufficient. Do not try to practice any method to reach God. Remember your Guru. That’s enough. Once you reach your Guru your sadhana efforts end here. Listen to your Guru and have faith in our Guru. Your Guru would take the responsibility of you and take you where you ought to reach. After reaching Guru’s feet, you need not worry about your spiritual growth. Just remember my Name. That is enough.” - Yogi
“The King Bee would bring any potential worm to its nest and would sting all the time till it becomes another King Bee. Likewise a Guru also works on his disciples till the disciples get the state of the Guru. The process is painful but there is no escape.” – Yogi
“You can salute and shower respect and reverence to all the saintly persons but you should have the trust and faith only in your Guru.” – Yogi
“Talking ill of the Acharyas, Sadhus and Sannyasis will prevent one from reaching Father. Father comes in all these forms. Criticizing the forms of Father is a serious mistake and this beggar does not like his friends to commit this mistake.” – Yogi
“The place where a Master dwells becomes an ashram but no ashram can produce a Master.” - Yogi
The Yogi talks about his teaching and himself,
“If this beggar walks, it’s a teaching, if he sits it’s a teaching, if he talks it’s a teaching, if he eats it’s a teaching, if he sleeps it’s a teaching. His whole frame is always blessing and teaching. People need not ask this beggar to bless them. This beggar is always doing that.” – Yogi
“Whenever my Father wants this beggar to talk, this beggar talks, whenever my Father wants this beggar to keep silence, this beggar keeps silence, whenever my Father wants this beggar to laugh, this beggar laughs, whenever my Father wants this beggar to weep, this beggar weeps. Wherever my Father keeps this beggar, whatever my Father does with this beggar, this beggar would just submit to his Father’s will. This beggar knows Father cannot commit any mistake. Whatever He does, He does for the good of the whole cosmos. So, nothing is wrong in this world, nothing is sin in this world. Every thing happens, happens by the will of my Father. So, nothing is wrong in this world. Everything is perfectly alright.” – Yogi
“Whatever happens happens by the will of my Father. So nothing is wrong. Every thing is perfectly all right. My Father cannot commit any mistake. So, nothing is wrong." - Yogi
He assures those who come to him with problems that all is fine and to accept it all,
“My Father wants you to go through this stage. It happens even in the lives of the saints. Do not bother. My Father is always with you. Whatever happens happens by the will of my Father. So nothing is wrong. Everything is perfectly alright. See God in everybody and in everything. My Father alone exists. You have not committed any mistake.” - Yogi
“Whatever happens happens by the will of my Father. So nothing is wrong in this world. Everything is perfectly all right. My Father alone is the doer and my Father cannot commit any mistake. So everything is perfectly all right. Whatever happened happened by the will of my Father. Whatever happens happens by the will of my Father. Whatever will happen, will happen by the will of my Father. Remember my Father. Everything will be alright. Remembering my Father is Life. Forgetting my Father is death.” - Yogi
“Everything happened, happened by the will of my Father. So, nothing is wrong in this world. Everything that happened is perfectly alright, because my Father cannot commit any mistake. Everything is my Father. My Father alone exists in everything and in everywhere. People who see my Father in all the things are always near and dear to my Father and you people are near and dear to my Father. Whatever happens happens by the will of my Father. So, nothing is wrong in this world. Everything is perfectly alright. My Father cannot commit any mistake. So, accept whatever comes as a blessing from my Father. You know what Kunti Devi demanded from Lord Krishna? “Krishna give me sufferings in all my births so that I could remember you all the time.” See, the sufferings are blessings, grace in disguise. So, accept whatever comes whether it’s joy or sufferings. It’s all from my Father. Remembering my Father alone matters, all other things are irrelevant.” – Yogi

The late C.Rajagopalachariar or popularly known as Rajaji had written a beautiful song, Kurai Ondrum Ellai Maraimurti Kanna, Kurai Ondrum Ellai Kanna, in Tamil. This song was popularize by Srimathi MS Subbulaksmi. This song exactly depicts Yogi’s advice. This happens to be the Yogi’s favorite song too.

The Yogi speaks on his mission,
“This beggar is not meant for the masses. Let the masses go to the other saints. This beggar is here to create a few individuals who can do My Father’s work.” - Yogi
“My Father has sent this beggar for a specific work. This beggar needs a few people to do his Father’s work. This beggar is doing that work. See the door. The door is always closed. This beggar would see only those people whom my Father sends. This beggar is not meant for the masses. Let the people go to others. This beggar does not need a crowd. This beggar needs only a few people who can do my Father’s work. All other saints have done great works but this beggar did not do anything. Some saints built temples and ashrams, some others did great works and gave philosophies, some others preached the way to Father and the way of life, but this beggar leaves behind him only his Name. Yes My Father will ever be with you. Remember my Father by chanting His Name and He will look after you.” - Yogi
“The Masters have their own way of doing the Father’s work. The real work is, uniting, merging the chosen beings with my Father. That’s all. We were together, we are together and we will be together. We cannot exist without each other. When Lord Siva comes, He comes along with His Ganas. When a Guru comes, he comes along with his dearest disciples. When the Guru departs, the disciples also would go after finishing my Father’s work. We are all together eternally.” – Yogi
“I can only say that, whatever exists is one life. Unity: nothing is separate, nothing is isolated. This beggar is related to the Sun, to the Moon, to the Infinite Cosmos. This beggar is not limited to this body. All of those who are present here are not separated or isolated. They are part of me. You see this Champak Tree, you see this Amla Tree, and they are all part of my Life. They are not separate. They are not isolated. I am in all these parts with all these leaves. I am the Total. I am the Whole, Absolute, Indivisible, Eternal, Limitless Life, Infinite Life. We are all one together, united, perfect unity in Father. That’s all. That’s all I can say.” – Yogi
“The Atma is always pure and holy. None can corrupt it. None can dirty it. None can hurt it or harm it. Atma is always Pure. We are that Atma. We all are that Atma. You are that pure Atma. You cannot be ruined. My Father says you are eternally holy and pure. You are always under the protection of my Father. You need not worry about the past. You are always pure and holy.” – Yogi
On the need of a separate meditation hall,
“The people who enter into the ashram will be in meditation and so there is no need for a separate meditation hall in the ashram complex.” - Yogi
The Yogi frequented J.Krishnamurti’s lectures,

“J. Krishnamurti came directly to this beggar and patted him on his back and this beggar slept”, repeated the Yogi several times and made one understand that after the touch of J. Krishnamurti, he was able to be in the deep samadhi state.

The Yogi always reminded others around him of the significance of his Name. He repeatedly says,
"This name Yogi Ramsuratkumar is not this beggar’s name. It is my Father’s Name. My Father has invested in this Name. Whoever remembers this name my Father will come to their rescue. Catch hold of the Divine Name and go on doing your work in the world. That’s enough. Remember this beggar’s Name, Yogi Ramsuratkumar. You need not do any other rituals other than chanting the Name Yogi Ramsuratkumar. The Name Yogi Ramsuratkumar is not this beggar’s Name; it is my Father’s Name. For this beggar’s friends, this Name Yogi Ramsuratkumar is enough. If you remember this Name, you need not worry about your spiritual growth. My Father will take care of you. My Father will see that you will reach my Father safely. For all other people, let them remember any other God’s Name which they like. My Father alone exists. Nobody else. Nothing else. In the past, in the present and in the future, My Father alone exists.” – Yogi
"Have faith in my Father. Have faith in my Father’s Name. This name Yogi Ramsuratkumar is not this dirty beggar’s name. This is my Father’s Name. Remember this Name that is enough. This beggar is enough for you people. There is no need for you people to go anywhere in search of my Father. And my Father will take care of us. We need not bother about our spiritual growth.” - Yogi
The Yogi speaks on rituals,
“This beggar has no knowledge of the religious rituals. All the rituals and religious practices prescribed in the Vedas should make one reach the feet of the Guru, if these rituals and religious practices are done with all sincerity. Once you attain the feet of the Guru, then you need not worry about your spiritual growth. You need not do any rituals also. It is enough to listen your Guru and remember your Guru. Your Guru will take care of you and he will take you to the destination. Where there is love, bakthi, there need not be rituals. All the other mantras and the rituals are for the other casual people but for the friends of this beggar, this name Yogi Ramsuratkumar alone is enough and this name would take them to the Holy Lotus Feet of my Supreme Father." - Yogi
On Pranayama,
“The people should do the Pranayama under the guidance of the Guru, at the proper place. Otherwise it will not give you the required result. It will produce a negative result which will cause a severe set back in one’s system.” - Yogi
“The good people are always spiritual people. This beggar is here to create good characters among the people. These people need not be religious; they should be good, honest. That’s enough. My Father will always be with them. Ramayana helps people to become good, shedding off their bad way of life. So, become good first. My Father will come to you. Go through Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita. Your life gets the transformation. You will understand the grace of my Father. The great sages and saints helped humanity to evolve towards my Father by protecting and giving great Rama’s and Krishna’s Stories.” - Yogi
On other subjects,
"Kaliyuga has gone. Now it is God Yuga. This beggar is able to see God everywhere and not Kali anywhere.” - Yogi
“We are here to do Father’s work. To do my Father’s work we should retain a little ego.” – Yogi
One last word from the Yogi,
“Love all, hate none, serve all and take lot of Nellikkai. Remember this beggar’s Name Yogi Ramsuratkumar all the time.” – Yogi
We get to know further about the Yogi from the book, MEETINGS WITH YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR by Will Zulkowsky.

Swami was a very complicated being says Will,
‘You are not dealing with a simple thing, you're dealing with somebody who is highly, highly complex and light years out, and we can't even fathom it so. There's just, like, endless ramifications about; every time you cross a line, you knew you crossed a line [laughs]. He lets you know very quickly that you crossed the line, and boom, that was it. And once you got the correction, you made the adjustment. But, that was his rules.’
‘If you asked him anything like, “What is kundalini?” he would just say, “Ah, what does this filthy beggar know about kundalini? That's for scholars and that's for real yogis. …”
On other gurus,
‘And Swami himself told me - each of these teachers comes for a certain group - he thought that J.Krishnamurti would more appeal to people who are more in the mind state rather than in the devotional state. The mind people, who have to explain everything.’
On chanting the name,
‘The name was big thing. Supposedly your name has like a vibration in the universal who you are. It has a vibration … with your soul that's taken that vibration.’
‘And that's what he did … Because he was working with these elemental forces and blessing that place (his ashram) with such a power, absolutely astounding. And all you have to do is walk into it and stay there for a while and be open, and something will happen to you. But to me that's the great miracle, not pulling something out of a hat or materializing something, This is the smartest man I have ever, the most aware man I have ever talked to in my whole life.’
‘He always just said he thought the name of Ram was enough. That's all you had to do. And he would say, if anybody chants the name of Ram, that's enough. And he didn't put down anything, but he just said that chanting Ram nam was all that somebody could do. And then he told me about etheric markers; he said that, like that name of Ram has been repeated so many times, it's like, in the air. He said he said, his work is in the air. He has been the vehicle of transformation, and he always said that if people would chant “Yogi Ramsuratkumar”, then they could tune in to who he was on some level, and that would be transformational – a vibrational transmission. He was very adamant that the name Ram is all you need, but he wasn’t pushing anything down anybody’s throat. He always said he tried to go to the path of whoever came to him. If they wanted to come and talk about Marx, he talked about Marx. He didn’t divert their path; he only tried to go with what they were interested in. He was very flexible that way.’
‘He said that in the old days the scriptures were in the air and all you had to do was be silent and you could tune in to the scriptures and hear them. He could feel it, he could live it. But now there is electromagnetic interference from the TVs, from the radios, from the short waves, the cell phones, from all the static we’re putting in the air electronically, and it’s interfering with the scriptures – it’s a big impediment. He says that’s why the dharma is falling, because people can no longer hear the scriptures when they are quiet. “Your satellites are interfering with this beggar’s work.” He was so sensitive that he could feel what the influence of the satellites was and what they were up to.’
To a question,
‘Why are saints incarnated in India, particularly? - Well, he said, in this Yuga India has always been the playground of the saints because where else in the world, even though you’re a nobody, with nothing, will they give you food and shelter and honor you and revere you? There’s no other country in the world.” He said that’s why the saints always incarnate, take birth in India. In other countries they would be locked up in some mental institution – treated like freaks. He also said that there was a lot of persecution of the saints, especially in the middle Ages in Europe. He said that’s why the saints love to come to India and keep incarnating there over and over and over again, because that reverence is always there for them.’
‘Swami had one love. It was lemons. He loved lemons. We call them limes. So whenever I went to the bazaar to get (something for him), it wouldn't be flowers, it would be lemons, because every time anybody came, he always gave them a lemon.’
‘After these experiences I realized that all change only comes from Grace and that our individual efforts on the spiritual path do not really count for too much.’
We go through a must read book for all those in search of a guru and also for those who already have a guru. This book, YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE MYSTERY OF BECOMING GOD by Olga Ammann, published by Yogi Ramsuratkumar Bhavan Mauritius, 2008 teaches us to cherish our gurus. Olga too was instructed to write about the Yogi.
‘In those days and nights, our Yogi, like anyone who walks along the path towards Realization, must have had a number of experiences that are unimaginable for us. These experiences, as he himself affirmed, canceled his identity to the last crumb. They left him totally empty. That is to say, before meeting God, it is necessary that man be shaken by something like a cataclysm, he must be crushed.’
‘Yogi Ramsuratkumar could see Reality, that is to say the noumenon, what is hidden beyond appearance (phenomenon), beyond sensible experience. On the contrary, what our eyes see is only maya (appearance, illusion), lila (cosmic play). All Yogis’ devotees will recall Bhagavan sitting with us or walking among us, and all of a sudden looking up, and after a few seconds bursting into laughter. He laughed heartily. We had the feeling that he saw something none of the devotees was able to perceive.’
‘Therefore, at a higher level – the one of Yogi Ramsuratkumar – what is generally called evil, violence, abuse, has its cosmic function. So, even what in human eye appears as the most tragic evil, ultimately is nothing but good: it is God’s grace.’
‘Bhagavan gives whatever is required when we require it. The Guru does nothing for himself, everything is for us. The desperation we experience, the resentment we feel towards him, and the estrangement we ourselves bring about, all these emotions are natural and necessary stages in the progression towards faith, and are guided by his concern for our growth.’
Yogi once asked a devotee: “Don’t you have a Guru in Calcutta?” “Yes, I have”, the man answered, and told his Guru’s name. “Then, why don’t you follow him? Why do you need to visit this beggar?”
“This beggar has not built an ashram or temple. This beggar has not written any books either. There’s nothing about this beggar’s life that’s inspiring. But he has left a Name for mankind. Out of his love, Father has given a Name – the Name Yogi Ramsuratkumar – to humanity, for its benefit. This beggar’s Name is in the sky. This beggar’s Name can be heard in the sky.” - Yogi
“This beggar has no mind. So, this beggar has no plans. This beggar cannot even pray. Every thought, every word, every gesture of this beggar is controlled by Father who runs the whole cosmos” - Yogi
“This beggar doesn’t ask Father why. This beggar simply obeys. Father knows. He runs the whole universe” – Yogi
Now let us look at another book on the Yogi - YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI by Truman Caylor Wadlington. The Yogi had personally asked Wadlington to write this book.
‘Ramsuratkumar was walking in the radiance of his soul and its pure energy was entering into him. But as he learned the joy of spiritual life, so too, he learned equally as well the distress of mankind. His eyes were wide open to the tumult, the blindness, and the suffering around him. He laughed with men and he cried with men, for his heart knew the spirit of life’s love and the anguish of man’s bitter toil.’
‘He saw that his greatest potential as a beneficent force in nature lay not in divorcing himself from the world he sought to aid, but in integrating himself with it. And he knew that it was for him to walk amidst the people and secretly to unveil their souls and unlock their hearts and free them from the prison house of matter.’
‘In this supreme mood of vision, his heart went out to the world. he understood fully his life and mission, and he gave himself over to that work which was not his alone, but which was the mutual endeavor of all those who are the custodians of the plan, work which is beautiful in design and in conformity with the creative purpose of the divine.’
‘He became the joy of participation in the divine plan, the joy of helping to solace a needy world, of bringing light to darkened souls, and in healing to some measure the opened sore of the world’s distress. From that moment onwards Ramsuratkumar’s life was consecrated to the service of the world.’
We refer to the book, WAVES OF LOVE, published by Yogi Ramsuratkumar Bhavan Mauritius, 2009 for some more revelations about the Yogi.
“It was the third chance to visit Ramdas. The two great Masters (Bhagavan Raman Maharishi and Sri Aurobindo) had passed away. This beggar thought to himself, “'Let me try again to visit Ramdas, for he is recognized as a great sage. So in 1952 this beggar did not go to Tiruvannamalai, nor did he go to Pondicherry, for the Masters were not there. But this time Swami Ramdas turned out to be an extremely different person. At the very first sight, Ramdas could tell a number of intimate things about the life and mission of this beggar which nobody but this beggar knew. It was then that this beggar first understood that the great master Ramdas was this beggar's Father. Swami has killed this beggar, but life has come. Millions and millions of salutations at the lotus feet of my Master, Swami Ramdas! He has initiated this beggar in Ram nam and has asked to chant it all the twenty four hours. This beggar began to do it and in the space of a week, this beggar has got this madness. The same madness still continues.” – Yogi
‘In the course of the wandering, his inner voice, the voice of the Father would direct him to a particular temple; but after he arrived there, the voice would direct him to stay by the side of the temple and not enter it. Similarly he would be directed to talk to a person or bow to a person and he had no choice except to obey. The Infinite was accomplishing His purpose through the actions, speech and gestures of the Yogi, whose surrender was so complete that there was no independent thought or action other than that which was prompted by God.’
‘Thus he was teaching us by example more than lectures, how to evolve into cultured human beings.’
‘His constant advice was to remain satisfied with whatever situation one found oneself in, realizing that it was part of the Divine will. “In truth,” he used to say, “there is only one will at work and that is Father’s will. It is therefore perfect, good for the individual, humanity and the cosmos.” – Yogi
We end this pilgrimage with yet some portions from Ma Devaki’s YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE DIVINE BEGGAR, published by Yogi Ramsuratkumar Ashram, Tiruvannamalai July 2008.
‘According to Sri Yogiji, the four years of tutelage under Sri Aurobindo and Maharishi Ramana were a period of ceaseless transformation of the human into the divine - a period of construction of all that was conducive, destruction of all that was dross and sublimation of all into greater and greater awakening. His days see-sawed between heights of ecstasy and depths of gloom.’
When finally the Yogi came to Ramdas,
‘He was already a ripe fruit needing but a gentle tap from the sage of Kerala for final consummation with God. Now a divine madness, bordering sometimes on the vestiges of insanity, gripped him uncontrollably. Yogi Ramsuratkumar laughed and wept, sang and danced and yet other times sat still as a stone or rolled on the ground, ecstatically overwhelmed by beatific surges of divine consciousness.’
“This beggar doesn't know why he would do a certain thing and not the other. You see, it's all madness. Whatever Father wants this beggar to do, that this beggar does, no matter what. Father's work is done. That's all.” – Yogi
“This beggar has been assigned a great mission. And this beggar does his work in every step he walks. Seeing people and blessing them is only a small fraction of my Father's work. Most of this beggar's work is hidden.” – Yogi
“This beggar has no material to give you. For messages, you must go to people like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Ramana Maharishi, my Master Swami Ramdas, Ram Thirth etc. Enough has been said already. This beggar has no new message to give you. But Father has given a name to the world that can liberate people the name Yogi Ramsuratkumar! That's all!” - Yogi
The Yogi when about to leave this mortal body explains graciously,
‘“Father makes this beggar suffer for some cosmic balance.” But he added, “This beggar can do much better work without this body”, allaying fears of the devotees.’
‘Well, such was his surrender to his Father's seemingly unsympathetic will that he would only say, “All Fathers blessings. Father knows what to do, when and how. This beggar cannot question Father like you people do!”
When a question was posed to him whether he had seen god? the Yogi replied, “Is there anything else to see?"

MUGAM MARAKKA VENDUM

On March 18, I had the opportunity to have a moment with Thiru Velayudham Karthikeyan on Google+ Hangouts. Among the many wonderful revelations he made to me, he did mention a directive from Agathiyar to his friend., "Mugam Marakka Vendum". This statement made me remember Karthikeyan's earlier post at http://atmaanubhavangal.blogspot.com/2013/09/blog-post_24.html. In it he has elaborated further why one should loose one's identity.

"அது à®’à®°ு à®®ிக உயர்ந்த தத்துவம்", says Karthikeyan further, commending this high philosophy.

Karthikeyan has this advise for us. If we intend to snap photographs of Sadhus, Sanyasi, Munivar, Siddhas, whom we meet, please ask for permission to do so first. Do not assume that it is alright to photograph them.

For these great beings who are on the path to Godhood, the very first directive is "சுயமுகம் மறக்கவேண்டுà®®்", literally translated 'To forget one's face'. Only then can they progress. They adopt this directive and put it into practice, without revealing to others.

Given this scenario, we would be intruding into their space and disturbing their meditative state. "Why should we create unnecessary inconvenience for these higher beings who have lost all attachment to material life and are now living in isolation and solitude", asks Karthikeyan. People might not understand how a single photograph could cause chaos. We should not intrude on the privacy of another, especially one who has left all dealings with this world. Be cautious that we do not disturb the tavam or meditation of these higher souls. In the worst scenario, we might not get to see them again or get another moment with them, once they realize that they have been exposed or revealed to the world, reminds Karthikeyan.

On my first visit to Kallar in 2005, Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal asked Mani to take us to meet Swamijis whom Mani knew at Ooty. The first Swamiji belonged to a mission who's head had just passed away. There was a tussle as to whom should run the mission. The second Swamiji was running a temple and had several aids waiting in attendence. The third Swamiji lived alone in the secluded woods with only a volunteer dropping in once in a while to look into his needs.

I took photos at the mission and temple with these Swamijis posing with us. But I was surprised the third Swamiji stopped me when I took out my camera. As Tavayogi spoke to him, he was observing me and the rests. His aid brought some tea, that was a blessing on that cold rainy day. As night fell on that secluded bungalow, we took a sip of that refreshing Nilgiri tea, under the watchful eyes of the Swamiji who was seated at the end of his bed. Tucked away and seemingly cosy and warm under some blankets, the Swamiji suddenly asked me if I wanted to take a photo. I nodded my head. To our surprise he told me to take it. He had given his consent. I was wandering why the change in his heart. The Swamiji then added that the next time I come there, he would be in the skies in the form of a star!

As we bid farewell  to him, and drove down to Kallar ashram, Tavayogi explained to me the various stages of spiritual development among saints and gurus and pointed out the differences among the Swamijis we just met. Tavayogi asked if I had noticed him touch the feet of the third and last Swamiji in respect before leaving, which I did.  Tavayogi told me that that Swamiji was a highly evolved soul.

When I was at Agasthiyampalli, Tavayogi asks that I sit with Agathiyar in the sanctum santorum, while he snapped a photo. Tavayogi asked that I take a photo of him at Punakeeswarar's samadhi in Chennimalai.

When I was about to leave the home of Supramania Swami in Nachaananthal, a small village 8 kilometers from Tiruvannamalai, I wanted a photo of Swami. I asked Deva if it was possible and Swami eagerly and willingly posed for me. Later Supramania Swami sent me a couple of his photos by post.

When I started my first web page in the nineties, I posted digitized artwork, paintings and drawings of mine initially, for safe keeping, since the originals were collecting dusts and deteriorating. I had posted some articles about the Hindu religion and its culture. Later after making my maiden pilgrimage to India in 2003 I shared my experiences and photos. I shared whatever little I knew from Supramania Swami. I posted news about Tavayogi's arrival in Malaysia in 2005 and my second trip to India and Kallar ashram.

Somewhere along the way I was told by Agathiyar in my Nadi reading that Tavayogi was undertaking kadum tavam or rigorous austerity. That was the time I understood many people made their way to Kallar after viewing these videos and web pages. I was toying over the idea, thinking if I should remove them so that Tavayogi could continue his austerities in peace without hindrance and without having to meet these keen and curious seekers.

At about the same time, Harsha Vardhan wanted a photograph of Supramania Swami. I attached the photo on his wall on Fb. One of his friends wrote a comment that insulted Supramania Swami. I did not want to put my guru in bad light and open for debate.

I had two reasons now to remove whatever I had posted over the years. I deleted my fb account, my indianheartbeat web page at fws1.com (that was started almost 13 years ago), web page at webs.com, my Scribd account, Flickr and YouTube accounts. It was all gone in a jiffy. I understood all has to end one day, even the good. I created, sustained and finally destroyed it all.

I called up Tavayogi to inform him what I had done, mentioning that I wanted to allow space for him to meditate in peace without any hindrance from the public. But Tavayogi surprised me when he said, "Why son did you remove them? All your hard work (in posting all the materials on Agathiyar and the Peedham) had brought the Siddhas to the attention of scores of people. Let it be".

Tavayogi appreciated all the effort in bringing the Siddhas to a wider audience as seen in a couple of his e-mails to me.

Hello my son how r u?
i have noticed all the videos and other web pages that you have uploaded in the web.
its all awesome and you have done fantastic spiritual work, i am very happy.

Some time later in my Nadi reading, Agathiyar praises the various efforts taken to promote the Siddhas. Agathiyar mentions Annette Merle Cleveland too in the Nadi. Annette, an Australian, spent much of her time in India promoting the Nadi and spreading the messages of the Siddhas through the web, http://www.divinadi.com/nadi-astrology-the-secrets-of-life-revealed/. Later Annette set up her own agency to help seekers  find their Nadi leaves. She had authored numerous books as seen at http://www.amazon.com/Annette-Merle-Cleveland/e/B00ISE0672.

“In India I have been researching Ayurveda and Nadi Shastra, which are amazing spiritual sciences. The Nadi shows we came from God and we are returning to God. Thanks to my yearning and the Nadi, I will be instrumental in establishing some humanitarian projects here in India in the future. Service is my true passion.”

Annette was also interviewed by Discovery Channel. To view the full episode of Discovery Channel's coverage of the Nadi, and other means of predictions, please go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQnCaU_vPwg.

She has since then returned to her homeland Australia. We do communicate through e-mail.

And so I started back, working on these sites, beginning from zero. I dropped a few sites, created new ones, including Siddha Heartbeat, all with the blessings of my Guru and Agathiyar.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF LIGHTING A LAMP

When Agathiyar came to Agathiyar Vanam in the form of a bronze statue on 2.1.2010, he had asked to perform libation or abhisegam for him. He also instructed us to chant his name. He asked that all who came seeking him, were to light a lamp and put forward their wishes or requests. Agathiyar promised to look into it.
Agathiyar arrives on the shores of Malaysia on the eve of his Jayanthi & Guru Puja celebrations. The celebrations in Malaysia coincided with the Maha Pirapanja Yagam conducted at Kallar Ashram.

We did as instructed in the Nadi reading. We never questioned him further.

After 4 years Agathiyar has revealed the reason why he asked all devotees to light up the lamp in his presence. This revelation has come through Agathiyar's Jeeva Nadi reading for a friend of Velayudham Karthikeyan. Karthikeyan had posted this information in his latest post dated Thursday, 27 March 2014.

The translation goes as follows:

For whoever should light a lamp, be it for oneself or another, as the wick burns brighter and brighter, for whosoever he should pray for, all that was wished for shall materialize, including those of his immediate family.

Such a beautiful and compassionate thought of our Father who is forever seeking ways to reduce our pain and suffering and bringing us to his Siddha path. Amazing.

Agathiyar goes on to reveal about the nature of karma and assures all karma is reduced once we seek out the Siddhas and Munivar.

...................................

Stalin sent me a link on fb some 3 hours ago. I just opened the link a moment ago. To my surprise he had sent us something that we were searching for.
a few seconds ago
Dear Stalin, we have been listening to this song on our local radio station the past 2 days. We were shaken up. Already as it is this tune Brahma muraari suraarchita lingam is earth shattering. Now with this lines (lyrics) set to this tune really brought tears to our eyes automatically. We are wondering who wrote this lines. In this moment of sadness where we lost 239 innocent souls, this song comes to console the families who have lost their love ones.

My wife had heard this song aired by a local station. When I reached home from work, she was talking about it. Then as Surendaran was garlanding Agathiyar, the station aired the song again. We all sat in silence listening to it. The lyrics etched its way into our system. The tune automatically brought tears. And she has a soul stirring voice.

Oh God. It is all so obvious. We see it happen everyday. Yet we chose not to see it. Thinking that we shall live forever. This song hopefully will remove the veils of ignorance in us.

DEVOTIONAL HYMNS

Here are two beautiful works of Ramalinga Adigal and Manikavasagar respectively.

Thiruarutpa SixthThirumurai by agathiyanproductions

I had purchased the above edition in two volumes, the first till fifth Thirumurai in Volume 1 and the sixth Thirumurai in Volume 2. When Ooran Adigal who published this edition for the Samarasa Sanmarga Aaraichi Nilaiyam, was invited to co-officiate the opening of the First World Conference of Siddha Philosophy in Malaysia with Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal, I was blessed to be given the opportunity to take care of their needs. I took this rare opportunity to have him autograph my copy of the THIRUARUTPA.

Listen to Ooran Adigal and Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal go on air just minutes before the start of the three day event (the First World Conference of Siddha Philosophy) below.

A local daily's coverage on the First World Conference of Siddha Philosophy
Ooran Adigal's autograph
Ooran Adigal has done a great job compiling this edition, which has been arranged chronologically, tracing the spiritual development of Ramalinga Adigal progressively.

If the AGAVAL is the cream of Ramalinga Adigal's work, similarly the SIVAPURANAM is the cream of Manikavasagar's works.

HAVE FAITH

It seems nothing is lost in the digital and electronic media. I had some time back lost much data, (data that I had presumed lost after it was corrupted and I had even reformatted the hard disk), only to retrieve them successfully to a certain extent. Through Kannan Kumaraweh, a colleague, I was told that I could still hope to retrieve the presumably lost data using one of several software made available free of charge on the net. It did the trick. I got back a major portion of my audios, videos and photos, and articles.

So out of curiosity to know if any of my earlier websites where still intact even after I had removed or terminated those accounts, I searched the net for indianheartbeat. I was surprised to see some remnants of the past resurface. I realized that nothing is lost forever.

Thinking that indianheartbeat was lost forever, I was further surprised to come across a blog http://myindianheartbeat.blogspot.com/ started by my daughter way back in 2012.

Similarly I understand that all our actions are recorded in the akash or the vast expanse and if required can be tapped into by saintly beings. I believe that’s how the siddhas reveal so many things to mankind of the past, present and even the future.

Supramania Swami too used to say that nothing is lost, including all the tavam or all efforts to achieve self-realization. He says all our efforts shall continue from where we left, even after the atma or soul left the mortal body, and continuing into the next birth.

After reading his posts, I messaged Velayudham Karthikeyan, the administrator of SITHTHAN ARUL, that although it was a sad situation indeed, that was prevailing in certain temples, it was a consolation to hear Agathiyar mention in the Jeeva Nadi of his friend, the Jeeva Nadi Guru, that the Lord still does appear before his sincere devotees at these temples.

Karthikeyan most graciously replied that, that was true and that the Lord comes in the form that one worships him, and blesses him, thus strengthening their faith and belief.

"உண்à®®ை. à®…à®™்கு இறைவன் நாà®®் வழிபடுà®®் à®°ூபத்தில் வந்து அமர்ந்து, நம்à®®ை ஆசிà®°்வதிக்கிà®±ாà®°். நம் நம்பிக்கையை அவர் நிà®±ைவேà®±்à®±ுகிà®±ாà®°்."

Although the state of affairs in these temples are in a sad state, there is still relief and salvation for sincere devotees as the Lord creates the space for them where they are given darshan without fail nor interruption. This we saw in the case of Karthikeyan's friend who was called over to Tiruchendur by Agathiyar. While there, the space was created for the Nadi Guru to pray in peace; where the temple staff moves away, allowing him to have a full view of the Lord; have the Lord to himself for some precious moments; where all the noise and rattle stops and finally calm prevails. Amazing.

Similarly the Lord creates this much yearned for moments and space in the life's of other devotees too.

Surendaran Selvaratnam who returned to Malaysia after a short stint in Kenya dropped by and garlanded Agathiyar at Agathiyar Vanam just moments ago. We were just going over these shortcomings, disappointments, irritations, and finally having to stomach all these negativeness while on pilgrimage (I too had met some equally disappointing moments as I made my rounds to these temples on my maiden pilgrimage to India, as mentioned at http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2014/03/in-most-recent-post-by-velayutham.html and http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2014/03/temple-worship-and-sacred-space.html,) when my wife reminded me of the good moments too that we had had at these very temples too, and true to Karthikeyan's words, God did come there.

Just moments before we boarded the plane back to Malaysia, my family and I made our way to the Rockfort Uchi Pilaiyaar Temple in Trichy. After paying our respects at the Manikka Vinayagar Temple at the base of the temple, we purchased entrance tickets and started the climb up a flight of steps. The locals seem to be at ease, knowing their way pretty well, in fact running up these steps with speed. We reached the Thayumanavar Temple, located midway, surrendered the tickets to a temple staff and stepped into what I would term a 'maze'. We were disorientated as to which way to go, what with renovations in progress. As we did not know where to go from there, we kept pacing up and down the same corridors.

That is when we heard someone clap. Turning around we were met by a small sized old man in dhoti and white shirt. He waved his hand as if telling us that that was not the way. He only made noises. Apparently he was dumb. He waved us to follow him and immediately rushed ahead of us, turning around very often to check that we were following him. We had to practically run to keep pace with him. He pointed out at all the statues, himself touching them, and expecting us to do the same. He showed us sannadhis where he pointed to us to worship. At one juncture, he suddenly stopped and knelt down on the floor. He asked us to follow suite. What do you know. There was a small opening where a sannadhi was visible below that floor, that he wanted us to see. Amazing architecture.

Eventually we came back to the very spot where we had met him and he led us further to the Goddess sannadhi, indicating to us by sign language Ambal's mukutthi or nose ring. He waited on us as we prayed. Then he stayed behind while he motioned us up a flight of stairs. Upon arriving there we were greeted by Lord Shiva in the form of a lingam. Coming down the same flight of steps, he was waiting for us. He lead us back to the entrance and by flapping his hands he indicated the way to Uchi Pillaiyaar's temple. Who was this kind soul who came at the hour of our need? I went up to him and hugged him. Amazing. We were wondering who this savior was who had guided us out of this 'maze'. Amazing.

This incident reminded me of my lone journey to India in 2003 to perform atonement or parikaram at the various temples in India. Making my way to the Utamar temple in Trichy, I asked Deva to check out with the local priests as to how to go about doing my parikaram there. I had to hand over three sets of clothing and foodstuffs to three priests as directed by Agathiyar. Deva returned shortly with a priest and we make our way to the Tiruvanaikaaval temple nearby. The priest advised me to complete my parikaram at Tiruvanaikaaval first as the temple was to be closed for the afternoon, and come back to Utamar temple later in the evening.

On arrival at Tiruvanaikkaval, he rushed us, picking up garlands and other stuffs for rituals, and packets of food too. He asked a caretaker of the temple to tag along with a large bunch of huge keys that was used to open doors that were closed. Lord Vinayagar's sannadhi was closed. He had the priest open up the sannadhi and perform the arati. He did the same at Lord Murugan's sannadhi too. At the main sannadhi for Lord Shiva, he called over an elderly priest, who was taking time off among many others, telling him that he was the one to conduct the prayers. We were lead next to Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivaligam. It was pitch dark in this inner chamber. The elderly priest sank his hand into the pool of water, displacing the water, indicating that the lingam was surrounded by water.

Next, the priest from Utamar temple practically pulled the older priest to Lord Dhakshanamurthy's sannadhi and again asked him to perform the puja. As the old priest stepped before me and blessed me I bursts into tears. I fell at his feet. I must have spent some moments in that position before I picked myself up. As I rose up, to my surprise, I noticed Deva, the priest from Utamar temple, and the caretaker had all followed suite and were prostrating before the old priest. I cried and cried that day. The caretaker came alongside and tried to comfort me, but the priest from Utamar temple ask that he let me be. "Let him cry", I remember him say.

After I had cried to my hearts content, I gathered myself, becoming more composed, we made our way to feed the animals. We stood at the hind of a black cow, while arati was shown to her. We fed her. We moved on to the temple elephant and fed her too. Finally we passed the remaining packets of food to the poor before leaving the temple.

I went without even a single thought of what to do and how to go about performing the atonement at this temple. But it all happened so fast and so swiftly, all beyond my expectations. I left the temple with a feeling of utmost satisfaction. We intended to send the priest back to the Utamar temple, but he wanted to be dropped elsewhere as he said he had errands to run. We drop him off at the place he chose. I passed him, one of the donation that I had to make to three priests at Utamar temple according to the Nadi. He happily accepted it. As Deva and I started on our next leg of the pilgrimage to Turaiyur, I chanced to glance back at him. What do you know. I had dropped him at Anjaneyar's temple! Amazing.

My friend Asokhan too was aided by Anjaneyar when he lost his way while on pilgrimage to Sabarimalai. Read about this miracle at http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2013/09/miracles.html and http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2013/09/miracles-2.html

The Lord created the space for Asokhan to climb the famed 18 steps at Sabarimalai escorted by Anjanayer and his mother Anjalai! It was festive season and you can imagine the crowd, right? But surprisingly as they made the way up the steps there was no other devotee! As they took the first step, the very steps turned to gold. The Devas and Devis or Angels stood on hand to welcome them on both sides of the path, showering flowers on their path. Asokhan was flanked by Anjanayar and Anjalai as they gracefully made the climb up the steps. Anjanayar then pointed to the skies and showed Asokhan the Jyothi Darisanam or Makara Jyothi. (Makara Jyothi is a star which is worshiped by pilgrims in huge numbers at Sabarimala Temple in Kerala on Makara Sankranti on 14 January every year. However many devout Hindus claim that Makara Jyothi is the celestial lighting which takes place on Makara Sankranthi day and they believe that Lord Ayyappan asserts himself as Makara Jyothi to bless his devotees. Source - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

After Anjaneyar and Anjalai left, and Asokhan had met up with his lost troupe, he makes the climb again up the 18 steps only to be squashed by the massive crowd! Amazing.

The Lord created the space whereby I could carry out my atonement or parikaram in peace and to my satisfaction at the famed Thillai Nadaraja Temple in Chidambaram. When I was bugged by several priests to pay to see the mysterious Chidambara Ragasiyam and to part with my wrist watch, I was saddened. But stashed away in a nook or corner of this temple was a sannadhi for Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivalingam where a young priest conducted the puja without any demands. The Lord created the space whereby I could carry out my atonement or parikaram in peace and to my satisfaction. Amazing.

The Lord created the space again at the Ekambareshwarar temple in Kanchipuram. With a private ritual taking place right at the main sannadhi of Lord Shiva, I simply walked away in disgust, not able to take in the noise and fair. I thought I would not be able to conduct atonement then. But further down the corridors of this famed temple, a young priest invites me into the chamber of Lord Nataraja, standing huge and majestic. He started to sing the praise of the Lord as he showed the arati. I broke down, overcome by emotions running high, thinking of the blessed moment. I had the Lord all to myself! I think I stepped into another world or plane at that moment. Amazing.

When Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal and I stepped out of the car at Agasthiyampalli, a priest who was seated with a couple of people at the base of the rajagopuram or tower hurried towards us. He ushered us straight to Agathiyar's sannadhi. He showed the arati. As Tavayogi took his seat and started singing his usual prayer to Agathiyar, the priest, to our surprise, interrupted him. He told us to circumambulate the temple grounds and pray at Lord Shiva's sannadhi first. We did as he instructed. He was waiting for us at Lord Shiva's sannadhi. He showed the arati and took us to the open. He pointed to a spot on the ground and told us that that was the exact spot where Agathiyar had placed his thumb and pressed the ground to stabilize the world that had weighted down in the north due to all the Gods, Devas and Devis, Rishis, Munis and Siddhas presence in the Himalayas to witness Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi's wedding. He left us in a hurry saying he had to rush to another temple. Amazing.

The Lord creates the space at Karuvurar's sannadhi at Breehadeshwarar Temple in Tanjore. Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal and I arrived in Tanjore at noon. As the temples are closed for the afternoon, Tavayogi spreads his shawl in the shade of the huge and majestic Nandhi at Breehadeshwarar Temple. I start to scout around. As I approached Karuvavrar's sannadhi the caretaker cum priest who was cleaning the oil lamps got up to show the arati. I prayed for awhile and then left to snap more photos. When I returned to Tavayogi he invited me to share his shawl. We both slept in the open under that afternoon sky.

At precisely 4.00 pm people began to move in droves towards the main sanctum of Lord Shiva equally huge and majestic. But Tavayogi chose to go over to Karuvurar's sannadhi. Now if he had wanted to pray at Karuvurar's, why did he wait till 4.00 pm when the temple of Karuvurar is never shut? I was puzzled. When we approached Karuvurar the same priest got up to show the arati. Just then there was a large crowd sitting around the sannadhi, chatting aloud. They had taken refuge from the scorching sun. When Tavayogi sat down to meditate the priest immediately asked the crowd to leave giving Tavayogi an opportunity to meditate in peace. Amazing.

After the encounter at Thayumanavar Temple where my family and I were shown around by a mysterious man, we came across a temple staff about to lock up a chamber. As we stood in front of him and had a peek inside the chamber, he asked if we wanted to step in. We nodded our heads and were given an opportunity to pray at yet another Shiva sannadhi. As we came out, he asked if we had noticed the numerous miniature Shivalingams on the face of that single majestic Shivalingam that we just saw. Non of us saw it. He allowed us to revisit the chamber. True enough on close examination we noticed that the large Shivalingam was anointed with numerous tiny Shivalingams. As we came out of the chamber the man told us that this was the Sahasralingam (The name Sahasralinga means thousand-lingas in Sanskrit. Source: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Amazing.

There is still consolation for us. Nothing is lost yet. The Gods do come to our aid.

SUPRAMANIA SWAMI OF TIRUVANNAMALAI

Gnana Jyothi Amma commented
"Seems to me like a Dream of the Distant past...At Subramani Swamy's home, HIS Kudil, meeting HIS family ...and the Massive Annadhanam ..that was done...We had Collectively DONE THE JOB AND FULFILLED YOUR GURUJI'S WISH..
AN Extraordinary Event....Shiva Shiva.."
Supramania Swami had requested that a massive annadhanam or feeding be done upon he completing his sixty day tavam. But just days after starting his tavam, Supramania Swami went into samadhi. Just days before his samadhi, Swami told me he had seen the Jyothi. He also told me one would have to leave behind all his tavam or benefits gained from performing austerities and ascetic practices before he left this mortal frame. He was so compassionate as to pass me his forty years of austerities. He did not take the punyam or its benefits with him just as he had told me. That is the greatness of my Guru, Supramania Swami.

Many a moment I used to wonder what did I do to deserve this extreme kindness and compassion on his part.

I met Supramania Swami on the pretext of wanting to know about my second daughter's astrological chart and her future. Instead he told me about my future. His nephew Deva happened to be the appointed driver during my maiden pilgrimage to India. Deva told me on the onset upon receiving me at the airport at Meenambakkam that he had replaced one Raji, who was to chauffeur me around. Raji had fallen ill all off a sudden.

When I had covered all the temples that I had to perform parikaaram or atonement by way of conducting prayers at certain selected temples and doing charity to others, I found that I had much time on my hands and to myself. That is when I invited Deva to take me to an astrologer. Just as I left Malaysia for India, my wife asked me, if it was possible to have my daughter's astrological chart written in India. Deva surprised me saying that his uncle was an astrologer and he was living only eight kilometers away from my hotel in Tiruvannamalai.

That is how I came to Swami. As I sat in front of him he was talking about me, without looking into my charts, my hand nor any other means.

After spending just a mere five splendid and beautiful hours with him, Supramania Swami a devout Shiva Bakta,  passed me a mantra as an initiation. Staying true to his teachings, I would like to pass it on to those who are in need of one. Take it up and chant this lovely mantra. It goes HARA HARA SIVA SIVA SIVA SIVAYA NAMASIVAYA SIVAYA NAMA AUM. There were no secret teachings as far as he was concern. Swami lead the life of a householder. Most of the time he was on his own and alone (except for the company of God and his Gurus).

When he put forth his life long wish to build a temple I immediately offered to help him in his venture, since I too was directed to help build temples by Agathiyar in my very first Nadi reading in 2002.

And so we started towards fulfilling Swami's wish. We purchased a piece of land with donations from family and friends back here in Malaysia. Work below ground level started. I suggested Swami build a kudil or structure to house him at the temple grounds rather then travel daily from his village home. A kudil was put up.

Then the Gods decide to stop him. A stranger turns up at the crossroads to his kudil and questions him why he was taking a step back, to the Bakti Margam. Swami called to tell me the venture was off.

He went into samadhi at his kudil at the very moment he had predetermined and written in his diary, that was found by his son, Ramajayam after he left his mortal frame.

When news of his samadhi reached me I called up Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal, asking for his advise, my next course of action. Tavayogi replied nothing be done, and ask that I just pray that his soul shall be placed in an exulted position.

Supramania Swami went into samadhi on 7.2.2007. Over the weekend Nadi Guru Ramesh called me in for a reading. Agathiyar speaks about Supramania Swami going into samadhi and asked that I fulfill my responsibility towards him. I never had the opportunity to go to Tiruvannamalai after his samadhi, but I had friends who carried out these obligations on my behalf to our utmost satisfaction and Swami's too, I believe.

Thank you Thayalan Arumugam of Malaysia, Harsha Vardhan of Bangalore, Surendaran Selvaratnam of Malaysia, Swami's family members including Deva, Dr Ram Subramaniam of Tirunelvi, and Jnana Jyothi Amma for helping me fulfill Agathiyar's directives and Swami's wish.

AGASTHIYAR SATAKAM

"What an astonishing thing a book is. It‘s a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you are inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."

The above is a beautiful quote by Carl Sagan, sourced from

A gentlemen when introducing Radhanath Swami and his book THE JOURNEY HOME, speaks about the role of a book, at http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2014/03/engum-unthan-karunai.html.

Indeed when reading a book, one is taken into the inner realms or being of another person, exploring as in the modern day Role Playing Games, the author's mind.

Similarly the Siddhas have never failed to document their findings for the benefit of mankind. Kunangkudi Maasthaan Sahib, among his many other works, has written 100 verses in his AGASTHIYAR SATAKAM, specifically on Agathiyar. In these songs he puts forward his numerous requests to his Guru Agathiyar, seeking enlightenment.

Radhakrishnan R.A.V has uploaded photos of Kunangkudi Maasthaan Sahib's Dargah at http://18siddhar.blogspot.com/2013/12/kunangudi-masthan-sahib.html

A friend is currently translating works of Agathiyar and Shivavakiyar for the benefit of non-Tamil speaking devotees. She is doing an excellent job at https://plus.google.com/112429198887368185631/posts and https://plus.google.com/102383883723707919971/posts, respectively.

Ramalinga Adigal too has written more then 6,000 songs, later compiled as the THIRUVARUTPA. The cream of these songs is the AGAVAL.

The Agaval of Ramalinga Adigal

Ramalinga Adigal follows closely the works of Manikavasagar, the TIRUVASAGAM, available at http://www.scribd.com/doc/214070212/Thiruvasagam. We see similarities in the expression of devotion or bakthi.

I came across more photos while looking for photos of my grandparents.

My maiden visit to India in 2003, and moments before leaving Supramania Swami (in the shadows with his son Ramajayam). Swami's nephew, Deva, is on the phone.
