LESSONS ON DEVOTION, THE DISCIPLE, THE FAMILY & THE GURU

Devotion

You speak about the path, way and Margam again and again.

When the Truth is spoken, no one comes (to listen)

What (kind of) devotees are these?

(Pointing us to a devotee) Bakthi is how he portrays. (He who is a true devotee is like ) a camphor (that lights up easily).

The Disciple

A disciple has to be like a camphor.

"இதோ வருகிறேன்."

"Here I come."

He then is a disciple.

"இதோ வருகிறேன்."

"Here I come."

The one who comes that instant ..

..is camphor.

He should not dispute the guru's speech.

No second thoughts.

He gives no reason.

"No guru, I shall see, I shall think over it"....

You are not a disciple then.

Just a banana trunk.

"அவகாசம் கொடுங்கள்."

"Give me time, please."

He is charcoal.

We can blow (as in fanning the flame) and bring him (to us).

(Pointing to a devotee) Ask questions like she does.

She asks questions beautifully and humbly.

"இதை நான் கேட்க வேண்டும்."

"I have to ask something."

"நீண்ட நாளாக அறியவில்லை."

"I have not known it for a long time."

Isn't this humbleness.

There is humility.

There is a manner for even questioning.

Open your doors (to your hearts).

Look at yourself.

Be like her.

She has love and devotion towards me. That is how it should be.

She would ask me.

"நான் இதை இடுகிறேன்."

"I am adorning this on you."

"நீ அணி" என்று கூறமாட்டாள்.

"I shall not force it on you."

She would say back then, "I do not know if you like this?"

"நீங்களும் நேரில் வரமாட்டிர்."

"You never come before me."

"பிழையாக இருந்தால் மன்னித்து விடுங்கள்."

"If it is wrong, please forgive me."

"எடுத்து விடுகிறேன்."

"I will remove (discard) them."

"இந்த உணவு பிடித்திருக்க?"

"Do you like this food?"

"நான் அறியவில்லை."

"I do not know."

"உண்ணுங்கள்" என்பார்.

She would say, "Please consume it".

You can talk to God.

We listen pretty well.

If you shower love we too shall shower it.

The Family

Spend a minute for me. That is enough.

Living with the family, carrying out one's responsibilities well, wholeheartedly, and with love, besides giving me some time is indeed Sariyai.

Devotion without love, without a standing, is not acceptable.

Appease everyone's wishes.

Divide your time wisely...

..between your family, work, and for me.

It is sufficient that you call out to me when you eat or work.

Bring your mind to focus and concentrate. Shower love. That is all to it.

Stay in the family and take care of everyones needs.

Devotion is about not hurting people.

We too are a couple (Agathiyar and Lobama).

How would I separate you?

That would be highly wrong.

You should come together as couples into worship.

You should travel as couples.

This is the truth.

Here they are.

Watch them and learn.

This is the Dharma or Aram. When one is approaching his last days, live like this couple.

Be as a family, divide your time accordingly.

Devotion does not mean separating couples.

Devotion is love at the level of the soul.

One pointedness...

Dharmam as in charity and service...

Ma (Lobamitra) has come too.

Henceforth we shall dine together.

We shall be together.

Follow us. Live like us.

That is our wish too.

That is what we expect too.

But there is anxiousness and fear in all.

That is man's nature.

At times there is hesitation in all of you.

Fear in you.

That is the mind's nature. Man's nature.

One's nature.

Little hesitations.

Fear.

Shivers.

All these need to be cleared.

Man's thoughts (mind) are beyond imagination.

You are not mad to worship a Siddha.

You shall gain divine and spiritual wisdom or Gnanam.

No one needs to go to the jungles (to meditate).

You can see all that is to see by merely sitting where you are.

You do not need to stay in the forest in these times.

No need to go into the forest.

There is no need to go places.

It can happen at home (with your family)

This is the best option.

This is what we desire (for you).

But man's preception is otherwise.

A Siddha has to have long tresses.

Clad in saffron clothing.

Keeps to himself.

If that is the case what shall happen to all out there?

How is a good generation to evolve and come about?

God is in all.

Once the doors to Gnanam are opened all shall realize this.

Do not leave your practices (Vaasi and Pranayama)

Do you have any doubts?

Ponder over it and ask another day.

The Guru

Even Gurus falther and stumble.

They do not transfer wisdom or Gnanam.

They refuse to share their wisdom or Gnanam.

What am I to say about you?

That is the reason I have to be harsh (towards them).

One who is a guru must show a good example to others.

He needs to think before he makes a false move.

There is no one alike Tavayogi (Thangarasan Adigal)

There is no one after him.

They want false gurus who give them all that they ask for.

Yes. When they extend their hands, gold, diamonds, cat's eye, mantras, money.... (appear)

When we question these, we are labelled mad.

Some use it for their own agenda.

This has to happen.

That has to happen.

Why did God give man Buddhi or intelligence to think wisely and differentiate?

Think.

Open the doors (to your hearts).

Pass on the wisdom or Gnanam (to others).

And sharing one's wisdom or Gnanam (gained from experiences).

Do not keep it within you.

You shall lose it eventually.

Do not let go of your practice (Vaasi or Pranayama)

I have said it briefly.

You elaborate on it later.

A LESSON ON PUJA

Do puja.

But shorthen it.

Take food after that.

After appeasing the stomach appease the mind (Shed some wisdom or Gnanam by sharing of one's spiritual experiences)

They come.

Speak unnecessary things.

Eat.

Make a dash (home or elsewhere).

But what they do is run off to attend to other worldly matters.

They make an exit.

I have sufficient Holy Water, that is enough.

Holy Water from the pot or  Kalasam is enough.

They sprinkle the Holy Water in their homes.

They do not think if they have had God's grace.

They do not think if they have become more wiser.

They do not think what use and benefit all these brings about.

They come.

They talk.

They eat.

This is how it has been.

Did they receive God's grace then?

They do not think about all these.

Enough.

Divine wisdom or Gnanam has to be delivered either before or after the puja.

One can share the lifestory of a Siddha.

One can share stories from the Periya Puranam (an account of the lives of the 63 saints or    Nayanmars)

A LESSON IN UDAL, UYIR & ATMA

When is an Atma inserted into the body?

At fertilization.

Atma comes to determine the blastocyst.

How can the fetus come about on its own?

The Atma comes as a result of the karma.

A fetus is a result of its karma.

The Atma delivers the fetus accordingly.

It takes a body according to its karma.

Do you understand?

All this is fated.

To whom one is born and when.....

So it is wrong to abort, right?

Since there is the Atma in it (right?)

There is the Atma in it (right?)

Are you clear now?

That is the reason, generally speaking, it is a sin to consume an egg.

The egg is akin to the fetus.

Dad, you did clarify to us about the body or Udal, breath or Uyir, and soul or Atma back then...

Thus the Atma is the reason for the fetus to take shape... (right?)

So when does the breath come within?

When the blastocyst takes shape.

At a certain time?

Yes.

Swasam, Puranam, Uyir.

Why, I did mention this back then, right?

Nothing exist without it (the breath).

It is important to cleanse the breath (Suddhi).

 Do you understand?

The less your spend your breath the better.

By controlling (the breath) do you mean Kumbakam?

To a certain extent, (yes).

You shall know your limit.

To a limit.

You decide.

(He turns to another devotee and asks) Do you realize that at times I come within to determine and take control?

Why do I ask you to manage your mind?

Only then can we work inside you.

(Oops! )I have let out a secret.

Why do I ask that you stay focus?

God shall speak to you.

He shall make you wise.

You shall speak to God in these moments of clarity.

(Paramahansa) Yogananda has spoken in detail (regarding this).

Why do some settle in silence?

To talk to God.

Why should you not talk much?

When you speak you spend your breath (the count).

100,000 words are spoken...

But alas one does not spell God's name.

One can converse with God.

We listen well.

I see you are in deep thought.

Your thoughts are on how to bring all these to writing, right?

You pay attention.

We shall write, in you.

You are NOT.

This body is just but a tool.

You are not writing the blog.

I shall write through you.

I have briefly said it.

You let the rest know tomorrow.

It all began here (Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia AVM).

It shall end here.

Here is where it is clarified.

Here it all started.

Here it shall end too.

You shall get clarity here.

A LESSON IN DHARMA OR ARAM

Dad, Dont take me wrong? Why are you trying so hard ?(to bring these souls into your fold)

Because we have to spread these. You have seen the bliss for generations right? Should not others see this too? It will end with you. Who shall then come? It will die away. This path should stay alive and reach its zenith. Not to praise me (but) for your (the souls') good.

But when they do not cooperate, listen, (it is pointless in) we are chasing (them)...

I shall bring clarity. If they cannot accept, they shall come to experience it. Experience will do its work (teach). They shall then gain clarity and come. This is all to it. Nothing else. Some are like this.

I used to think. Why Dad is going to this extent and trouble to bring salvation to these souls?

It shall end with you. Who next? Do you understand? Should not others too see the bliss that you saw?

Per Inbam (Greatest Bliss)

Yes

That is why we have to let go, Dad. Why are you troubling yourself? We can no longer take it. You are in misery... trying so hard. Seeing all this makes us sad.

When an art form or practice is taught to one, his Dharma is to spread it. If he keeps it to himself that is a betrayal of the Guru's trust. Do you want to see them sin? When ordered .... (Agathiyar remains silent). You are seeing for yourself, right? What else am I to say?

Yes. We cannot leave this like this. This place should be revived and reach its zenith. There should be one to show the way, right?

(Agathiyar having reflected on these souls' past deeds, could not speak further. He was so hurt. He moved on to better things in the waiting)

Today Agathiyar Vanam is revived. Be yourself. Beautiful and Youthful.

BRINGING HIS MESSAGES TO ALL

Neale Donald Walsch writes in his Book One in the series "Conversations with God" how he came to have a conversation with God. It was his habit to write his thoughts down as letters to the person who was causing him unhappiness. These letters though were never delivered. Once he wrote to the source itself whom he considered the greatest victimized of them all - God. As he exhausted his thoughts and completed his letter his hand remained poised to write further. He wrote, "Do you really want an answer to all these questions or are you just venting?" Going with the flow he began to have this and many more conversations with God in writing or rather as he says a dictation. This gave rise to a series of books. Similarly, when I asked Agathiyar if there were any flaws in my writing when he was with us consecutively over two days recently, he brushed me aside saying it was not my writings but implied that he was dictating them. We are blessed to be part of his divine play.

On 10 February a reader and a devotee of Indian origin working in Germany messaged me the following, "Read your blog today, You are a spiritual catalyst for sure Ayya. For example, you kick-started my Siddha way of worship... you acted as a catalyst for me..." Agathiyar used me as his tool to bring souls who had the potential to be groomed into another Siddha having them read this blog, sending many to Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal of Kallar Ashram@AgathiyarVanam, and several others to my home that became Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM). We are blessed to be part of his divine play.

Then Agathiyar had me commission his bronze statue in Swamimalai and have it brought over to AVM on 2nd January 2010. After having my family and others fully indulge in rituals he moved to the homes of other devotees too. We are blessed to be part of his divine play.

Agathiyar in coming through his devotees and who initially blessed and healed his devotees dictated the rituals and Yoga practices. Now he shares his divine wisdom or Gnanam with us. We are blessed to be part of his divine play.

If I wrote earlier that though it is truly unbelievable or some might brush it aside as ridiculous or utter nonsense, Agathiyar has given me the green light to share these conversations in the form of a discourse between a guru and a disciple just as Neale's book carried, and I wrote that I shall attempt to present it in this manner, I ask myself how am I to take a transcript of some 6 hours of conversation over those 2 days? I ask readers to be patient with me while I vet through the recordings and recall to memory those moments when we were taken by surprise and never had an opportunity to record these conversations.

THE TRANSITION TO GNANAM

When Tavayogi stepped on our soil, he told us to come to Gnanam. But to arrive there we had to go through the other two phases that of Kriyai and Yogam. If our parents brought us into Sariyai, the guru comes to have us personally take up worship and rituals and the practice of Pranayama and Asanas, besides the other limbs of Ashtanga Yogam. Tavayogi initially initiated us into it. Agathiyar had Mahindren and me share it with others. Today he has chosen a handful, to be specific only 6, at present to move into Gnanam. Looking back we see Agathiyar's play and lila. After asking me to commission his bronze statue in Swamimalai and bring it over on 2nd January 2010, he moved to 10 homes accompanied by Tavayogi and Mataji when they visited us in 2016. He had me stop bringing him out after that. When a devotee moved into his new rented home after the pandemic, he requested that Agathiyar grace his home. Agathiyar accepted his request and that of others who followed suit. He had me stop bringing him out after that. Agathiyar who had indicated his intent to move out of AVM, moved to the home of his devotee on July 4, 2023. Just as Agathiyar had tested me on numerous occasions,  after some 6 months he told the host that he was going to move on two occasions. But the couple and their family remained silent not giving their consent. Agathiyar decided to give them some more time during which the host purchased a bronze statue of Lobama too and carried out their ThiruKalyanam or Holy Matrimony. Agathiyar now told them he was leaving giving them no option this time around. Finally, the host came around to understand and let go of their hold on idol worship. The idol is only required for as long as we are ignorant of the true nature of the divine that is all around us and most importantly in us, and not only in statues. Once we have understood it is no longer necessary just as the koan  "First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is", goes.

During the Tang Dynasty, the Chinese Ch’an master Qingyuan Weixin famously wrote:

“Before I had studied Ch’an for thirty years, I saw mountains as mountains, and rivers as rivers. When I arrived at a more intimate knowledge, I came to the point where I saw that mountains are not mountains, and rivers are not rivers. But now that I have got its very substance, I am at rest. For it’s just that I see mountains once again as mountains, and rivers once again as rivers.” (Source: https://tricycle.org/magazine/first-there-mountain-then-there-no-mountain/).

Agathiyar who told us that he would be back at AVM before he left, wishes to stay in each devotee's home for a month before returning home for the Guru Purnima prayers on 21.7.2024. So I put out the notice for takers and the slots were taken up within days. Know that these are the devotees whom Agathiyar shall work on to have them let go too and come to the state of understanding and wisdom or Gnanam. They shall host the monthly Pornami puja on 24.2.2024 / 24.3.2024 / 23.4.2024 / 23.5.2024 and  21.6.2024 respectively before sending him off to grace the home of another devotee. When Agathiyar leaves their homes they too like the present host shall step into Gnanam, giving farewell to Agathiyar as the Murthy and with it Sariyai and Kriyai too. He shall return to AVM for the Guru Purnima prayers on 21.7.2024 where the children shall henceforth conduct the puja where the adults shall only guide if necessary. As for the adults they have to pay attention to their current Yoga practice and their breath. Agathiyar shall give them the necessary experiences to attain Gnanam later.

THE SOLE LOST SEEKER

To the question posed by a devotee as carried in the last post as to why Agathiyar had to come through others and not take birth to bring the desired changes, the devotee envisions the day when Agathiyar takes birth as a guru to teach, mold, and bring these changes as he did in ancient times. Giving it some thought I realized that it is a wonder that he even comes through some individuals and several genuine gurus. He could have turned a blind eye, shut his ears, and remained passive. But being a compassionate and loving father, he has to come as a guru through others to teach in this age. Another devotee reading the posts answered almost immediately replying that Agathiyar needed to use us as a tool and vehicle to teach, show, and pass on the numerous practices to others. He also had to fill us up with Gnanam she said. A true seeker coming empty has to be filled and his thirst and hunger satisfied. His or her soul or Atma has to be freed. The soul in us is trapped by layers and layers of, no longer thin veils, but blankets, often suffocating it and causing much pain. Most often our individual likes and dislikes, aspirations and ambitions, wishes and desires, wants and hunger are like heavy blankets covering, and muffle and dampen the soul's voice. It yearns to be freed. It remains unheard until the guru comes to reveal its existence and help us remove these veils. The divine takes a form as in the transmigration of souls to release the latch, to untie the rope, to break the chain, and to free the soul to do what it came for. He might have to strike us hard as the blacksmith does bringing down the hammer on the heated metal to shape it. Like the hot metal, it is only those who have built up their Tava Kanal or Fire of austerity in them that are often given heavy blows. Be assured that these would be the last few blows that would bring out the beauty within and a purpose in them just as the metal eventually takes on a shape and purpose.

Truman Caylor Wadlington wrote in his book YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI that in 1947 with a burning desire to realize his innate divinity, Ramsuratkumar set off in search of a master. The search for his spiritual father brought him first to Sri Aurobindo and later to Ramana. After spending three days with Ramana, he moved on to Swami Ramdas. “However, unlike his meetings with Ramana and Aurobindo, he felt no attraction to Ramdas.” Ramsuratkumar could not bring himself to accept Ramdas’s life of luxury. He returned to his home in Kashi.

Though Ramsuratkumar visited Ramdas repeatedly he felt the same way towards Ramdas each time he was with Ramdas. Even after several earlier visits to Swami Ramdas, Ramdas did not inspire the Yogi.

"Papa (Ramdas) did not allow this beggar to understand Him. The time was not ripe. This beggar had to wait till Papa Himself revealed His Divinity to this beggar, to make this beggar understand that Papa was his Father."

When finally the Yogi accepted and surrendered to Ramdas, surprisingly Ramdas was not willing and did not receive him well. S. Parthasarathy wrote in his book, BIOGRAPHY OF YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI (AMARAKAVIYAM) that,

"Swami Ramdas and Mataji Krishnabai drove him out of the ashram forcibly so that he would remember them constantly. They used harsh language whenever he was before them among the crowd of devotees. By doing so Swami Ramdas and Mataji Krishnabai removed his ego totally. But it took a very long time. In the process, the pain, the suffering he experienced were acute."

Swami Ramdas would say,

“Go and beg. You cannot live in the ashram. There are enough people in the ashram to work. Remember, under a big tree, another big tree cannot grow. Only thorny bushes and grass alone will grow.”

When the Yogi lamented that it left him no other choice but to beg, Ramdas cried out "So be it". The Yogi went by the name Beggar till his last days.

I recall how I was sent away from Ongkarakudil by Thavathiru Rengaraja Desigar telling me "Coming here itself was a blessing" triggering a multitude of questions in me including if I was not worthy nor eligible to step on the Ashram grounds. 5 years later Agathiyar reveals the reason. It was exactly what the Yogi realized and revealed later as above. Though he asked me to go again then I never went back as I had taken Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai and Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal as my gurus. Agathiyar never brought up the subject. Yesterday he singled both Tavayogi and Rengarajar as exemplary gurus who could never be replaced.

Agathiyar showed me the varied and multiple nature of his devotees. Some professed his name but never took up his teachings. They merely wanted to attach a label to an otherwise naked self. Others were not sincere in seeing through the task given. And yet some others had strayed away. Only a handful at AVM remained with Agathiyar through thick and thin. Just like Yogi Ramsuratkumar who was not given admission to Ramdas's ashram, but yet kept coming back till he was shamed by the guru, only a handful at AVM withstood the heat. When I asked Agathiyar why the need to revive AVM which he had closed in 2019, he told me that though 10 might come along out of curiosity, his hope is one among them shall step forward to take up the call. I have to keep my door open for that one soul, he added. I believe the Siddhas would identify and invite him or her and pass on their Gnanam eventually in good time.

If Agathiyar showed me the true faces of his devotees, he also showed me how masters, teachers, and gurus have manipulated the truth for their own personal gains. Though some distorted the truth for the good of their followers, they were equally wrong too, to do that Agathiyar reminded me. He was educating me just as a father would bring along his kids and show them the world around us.

THE TOOL

Going by the many events in recent times, it is pretty clear that Agathiyar is getting us to lose our grip and hold on our attachments. Agathiyar in coming recently made it clear that he was not here to treat our illness and heal our sorrow but to bring clarity by removing the veil of ignorance bringing us to the state of Gnanam. To a concerned mother and grandmother, who asked that Agathiyar keep her son who is due to be operated safe, Agathiyar refused to say anything regarding it. She was asking that he take care of him just as he had taken care of her other son who had taken ill some time back. Instead, Agathiyar tutored her on old age and death and asked her to seek salvation for her soul instead. He advised her to take up prayers and teach her grandchildren something about it too. He told her clearly that her troubles won't end. Some time back she prayed that her son be saved. Now she wants another son saved. Tomorrow she will come before him to save her grandchildren, and it shall continue. Her worries did not stop there, she was complaining and arguing about her granddaughter's choice of studies too. When is all this going to stop he asked? When is she going to drop her attachments? When is she going to pray for herself, asking that she leave in peace and attain salvation?

Speaking to a devotee moments ago, he asked why Agathiyar had to use us as tools for his purpose when he could come to see to these things personally? It made me think too. What if the tool is flawed or was seeking personal gains or might manipulate the truth to remain relevant? Would not it be better for the Divine to come within each and enlighten each of them? It made me reconsider all further tasks that were waiting for me. As Tavayogi says he shall speak to them, I too shall need to speak to the Siddhas to reconsider them just as they had shelved the many gifts that came my way and tasks given because I had refused them, not due to arrogance but not genuinely seeking or wanting them. I shall have a word with them.

THE SIDDHAS SPEAK THEIR MIND

Neale Donald Walsch wrote in the opening sentence of his introduction to his Book One in the series "Conversations with God" that "You are about to have an extraordinary experience. You are about to have a conversation with God." He continues, "You probably think that's not possible... At least not in the form of a regular, everyday kind of conversation. That's what I thought too. Then this book happened to me." He shares his experience in sharing God's words. "My life would probably be much easier if I had kept all of this quiet... And whatever inconveniences the book may cause me (such as being called a blasphemer, a fraud, a hypocrite ... or perhaps worse a holy man) it is not possible for me to stop the process now."

Indeed I share the same too. The Siddhas who came through the words etched in dry palm leaves called the Nadi, Olai Suvadi, or Oracle, back then in my first Nadi reading in 2002, had Tavayogi bring me to their abodes in the jungles and caves of Kutralam, and the temples and waterfalls of Papanasam and Kalyana Theertam at the fringes of the Western Ghats. If Agathiyar had revealed the mode or the means of how he would come and walk with his devotees the day after his arrival on 2nd January 2010 in the form of the bronze statue at my home telling me that my soul will be in his statue while he would transmigrate into me using one of the 8 Siddhis, during the pandemic and post-pandemic till this day the body jointly hosted both these souls. They are coming to us speaking through devotees. The past two days leaving the company of Lobama and the other Siddhas who had assembled at Pothigai for a sharing; he hitched a drive with us; stayed and walked amongst us; sharing his grievances upon seeing the hopelessness in their attempts to release man's souls from the clutches of their ignorance; and returning back to his cheerful self and joking with us; eating with us and serving us the food too; and chatting with us for some 5 hours.

As Neale mentions one wonders if all these were possible, we too initially doubted it but with more and more visitations from them, we saw that it was for real. They who burned the bridge and brought down the walls and created a portal came down to our level and plane from their high state of existence, have now left a small window to their world so that we could listen in or eavesdrop on their conversations too and be enlighten directly from the source rather than through others who might tend to manipulate Gods words for their own advantage. Similarly, as the learned in the texts of the Siddhas and commoners, equally, tried to define the Siddhas and their path hopelessly, I believe that Agathiyar wants to bring to the forefront the truth as seen in his readiness "to expose it in total self-fulfillment" a statement made in the preface by the author Amarakavi Ramachandra of "The Secret of Inner Voice", Hayagreeva Publication, Chennai. In reading that "We do not live but merely exhaust to death in the physical (that is the cosmic presentation with its stretch to live in matter in the individual) we are alerted to do something worthwhile before the flame extinguishes or exhausts itself.

Though it is truly unbelievable or some might brush it aside as ridiculous or utter nonsense, Agathiyar has given me the green light to share these conversations. If my brother had written back then in 1990, the booklet "Image Worship" in his series "The Wisdom Library", "The presentation (format the book was written) is in the form of a conversation between the Guru and his Sishya (Disciple)", speaking to me about the many options to go about it, Agathiyar has asked me finally to write it as was said, that is in the form of a discourse between a guru and a disciple that reminded me of his discourses with his student Pulastya in the past. And so I shall attempt to present it in this manner. Be patient with me while I vet through the recordings and recall to memory those moments when we were taken by surprise and never had an opportunity to record these conversations.

EVENTS AT AVM

The "Siddhar Vaalkai Neri Murai" talk and Health examination went well with a good turnout, on 18.2.2024. Siddha Maruthuvar Arivananthan Aiya saw some 7 patients and gave the talk, to enlighten all 15 attendees on food, its preparation, and intake. Good health goes a long way in achieving all the rest that is desired both materially and spiritually. The talk is shared on YouTube for the benefit of viewers.

Just as Agathiyar told us that he would be back at AVM when he had us move his bronze statue to another devotee's home on July 4, 2023, Agathiyar has wished to stay in each devotee's home for a month before returning home for the Guru Purnima prayers on 21.7.2024. Several devotees have invited him to their homes on these Pornami days where they shall host the monthly Pornami puja before sending him off to grace the home of another devotee. 24.2.2024 / 24.3.2024 / 23.4.2024 / 23.5.2024 /  21.6.2024. He shall return back to AVM for the Guru Purnima prayers on 21.7.2024 where the children shall conduct the puja henceforth only guided by adults. As for the adults they have to pay attention to their Yoga practice and their breath. Agathiyar shall give them the necessary experiences to attain Gnanam later.

AN INSIGHT INTO THEIR REALM

Agathiyar has permitted me to share more about what transpired yesterday and today. Just as I wrote what an exciting day it was yesterday with Agathiyar hitching a ride with me, it was another exciting day as my wife and I drove him to the railway station again today. He and Ramalinga Adigal came to pass on Gnanam but sadly no one was ready to receive it. Nevertheless, they are not giving up hope on them. After discussing amongst them both which they made audible to us, they decided to give us another chance. Yes, Agathiyar gave my family a rare insight into their conversations today. We all heard them converse about the failed venture in bringing these souls to Gnanam. They then spoke about other means and ways to save these souls. If Agathiyar had told me in the past that just as we spoke about the Siddhas they too always spoke about us, yesterday Agathiyar named several Siddhas telling us that they were talking about us that instant at their gathering. He had stationed Lobama with the other Siddhas just to be with us. And he stayed for some 5 solid hours. It is all too mystifying and difficult to digest but it is no hallucination nor imagination. Things beyond our comprehension do take place. I have heard and read these stories but when it happens to you it is truly beyond imagination. Though all these bring joy to us, we are reminded to not lose sight of our goals or rather the destiny the Siddhas had charted for us. I don't think I can go on for I am so overjoyed now. I had to pen these less I forget them as I am aging too.

AGATHIYAR COMES AS A FRIEND

What an exciting day it was today. Agathiyar hitched a ride in my car as a went to pick up a couple of devotees at the Railway Station this afternoon. It reminded me of picking up Tavayogi from his local affiliate Peedham in Batu Caves and driving him to my home in 2005. Agathiyar spending some solid 5 hours with my family reminded me of the same 5 hours I spent with my first guru Supramania Swami in Tiruvannamalai in 2003. Spending some quality time with him reminded me of how Agathiyar shared his Gnanam with his student Pulastya back then. I rejoiced in happiness as my prayers or rather a portion from saint Nakirar's Vinayagar Thiru Agaval that I adopted and that we sang at AVM had materialized. Nakirar pleads with Lord Ganesha to bring the guru within where both the guru and disciple shall spend hours in silence, connecting with each other in silence, receiving direct knowledge and illumination in that sacred moment of silent discourse.

It also reminded me of Lord Krishna's friendship with Arjuna. Indeed, if Agathiyar had come as a strict guru days back, today he came as a friend and discussed so many matters close to his heart. The whole family sent him off back to the Railway Station and bid him farewell in the evening. We never imagined an event of this sort in our lives. Faith and belief can truly do wonders. We are blessed.

Agathiyar came to revive Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia which he had closed back then in 2019 several months ahead of the pandemic. He also released me from my captivity and years of solitude to mingle in public and attend to worldly matters henceforth. I can only share this much at this juncture. If he permits, we shall continue in another post.

DEATH

Though no one wants to think about death, it must be addressed as we see this happening naturally around us each minute. What happens to this body that we had resided in, and pampered and taken care of, after minutes of being certified death?

We learn from https://www.aftermath.com/content/human-decomposition the following.

"Decomposition begins around four minutes after a person dies. As soon as blood circulation and respiration stop, the body cannot get oxygen or remove wastes. Excess carbon dioxide causes an acidic environment, causing cell membranes to rupture. The membranes release enzymes that begin eating the cells from the inside out (self-digestion)."

"Muscle stiffen. Small blisters filled with nutrient-rich fluid appear on internal organs and the skin’s surface. The body will appear to have a sheen due to ruptured blisters, and the skin’s top layer will begin to loosen."

As "Leaked enzymes from the first stage begin to produce many gases, the human body can double in size, giving it that bloated look. The sulfur-containing compounds that the bacteria release also cause skin discoloration. In addition, insect activity can be present."

"The microorganisms and bacteria produce extremely unpleasant odors called putrefaction. These odors often alert others that a person has died, and can linger long after a body has been removed."

"Fluids released through orifices indicate the beginning of active decay. Organs, muscles, and skin become liquefied. When all of the body’s soft tissue decomposes, hair, bones, cartilage, and other byproducts of decay remain. The cadaver loses the most mass during this stage. There is no set timeframe when skeletonization occurs."

This is how we or rather our residence end up eventually. Even before all these set in after death, just as a house shows signs of decay generally after 20 years and needs to be renovated, we too need to rejuvenate this body. But just as the house has to come down one day, our residence that is this body too falls to the ground one day.

But the Siddhas are said to have found "a magic formula" to prevent arriving at this awful state. How and what is the formula to reverse this tragedy? Though many researchers and writers on these Siddhas vouch for these possibilities, they too end up buried or burnt. Though many Siddha masters and gurus have spoken about these possibilities, they too end up buried or burnt, though these are given exotic and eye-catching names. Has anyone escaped this natural process in this age? Has anyone beat nature at its game? Even as I pen on many things regarding the Siddhas in these pages, could I achieve the state of Siddhas? Just as mere reading about Siddhas does not bring us anywhere, writing about them too does not make me a Siddha. One has to live and breathe, as a Siddha does. For that to take place, the Siddhas themselves have to come within and live and breathe, in us.

So we arrive at the formula to attain a Suddha degam. The Siddhas have us perform asanas and pranayama practices, besides having us consume sattvic or pure food, consume herbal preparations that eradicate the trash accumulated in us for years, and henceforth have us adopt a good comprehensive lifestyle. When this body is perfected we gain the state of a Suddha degam or a purified body. This transmutation and transformation goes to the level of atoms. The gross "matter and the atoms of unpurified elements are slowly transformed into energy or Pranava deham or body of Grace and Light and the body of Wisdom (i.e.) evolves into the body of the God Supreme or Immanence" we are told. Transformation on the subtle level takes place, "The transformation in the human frame first into Anburuvam, the body of love, then into Aruluruvam, the body of grace, and then finally into Inburuvam, the body of ecstasy, that is, the body of the God Supreme. All three states of the body are also referred to as the golden body", writes Dr.C.Srinivasan in his book "An Introduction to the Philosophy of Ramalinga Swami" published by Illakkia Nilayam, Tiruchi, 1968. Mortal man becomes Immortal.

Above and beyond our efforts is the grace of the divine that is obtained by "universal spiritual communion and devotion to God", says Dr.C.Srinivasan. Ramalinga Adigal transformed "the most impure body susceptible to the natural bonds and to putrefaction to become an everlasting and imperishable body," writes Dr.C.Srinivasan. He writes further, "The Swami says: “O God – the Eternal Love, just to bestow upon me the golden body, you, the Universal Love have merged with my heart. Allowing Yourself to be infused in me, O Supreme Love, You with the light of Grace have alchemized my body.”

So how does one connect with the Siddhas? Where do we look for them? The first mention of the Siddhas and their Nadi was made by the late Dr.Krishnan who charted my horoscope in 1996. But I only read the Nadi in 2002. Agathiyar explained the reason too. It was fated that I read it when I was 43 years of age. Agathiyar called me to the worship of the Siddhas and later in 2005 called me to the path sending Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal of the Kallar Agathiyar Gnana Peedham. Tavayogi gave me the tools to pursue walking with them. Today Agathiyar has given me a reason and purpose to hang around further postponing my asking to leave. How will my end be is anyone's guess. And he is keeping it close to his heart. For one, I do not want to drop this body to the ground to go through the stages detailed earlier. Will he grant my wish?

MYSTIC UNION

Henry Wei in his book "The Guiding Light of Lao Tzu", Synergy Books International, speaks about this mystic union.

"The mystic union represents the unique experience stemming from "the flight of the alone to the Alone" as the famous mystic Plotinus has so well expressed. Unfortunately, it cannot be easily attained much less isolated and measured and experimented upon in the laboratory. Its actuality is entirely based on the experience and confession of the mystic themselves who were completely convinced of its authenticity. Some skeptics have maintained that the mystics are victims of hallucination or self-hypnosis."

Agathiyar told us the same too that people would not understand the mystic until they come to that state too. Many of the things Agathiyar and Tavayogi told me in the Nadi in the former and in passing in the latter only made sense now after gaining the experience too.

Henry Wei writes of those experiencing this mystic union: "Their scale of values changes radically; their attitude towards life changes too; their health improves; they have a sharper and deeper understanding and a clear spiritual vision. In all these, man is understood as being capable of attaining union with the mysterious cosmic influence or cosmic spirit or divine being."

G.Valmikanathan in his book ‘Makers of Indian Literature - Ramalingam’, published by Sahitya Akademi (e-book at http://www.vallalar.org) traces Ramalinga Adigal’s brilliant journey on the pathway to God dividing it into three major portions beginning with the purgative way, the illuminative way, and finally the unitive way. The journey on the unitive way is where we see results. The transformation takes place rapidly without our doing. The Divine gifts us a body that can sustain his majestic presence. He personally sees through the necessary transformation to become him. Ramalinga Adigal affirms that the most impure body will become a body pure and imperishable. "The Unitive Way is where God with name and form will disappear and where ultimately the worshiper and the worshiped, the seeker and the sought, the soul and the Godhead, will merge into each other."

Henry Wei quotes Rabindranath Tagore on this mystic union, "The Paramatman, the supreme soul, has himself chosen this soul of ours as his bride and the marriage has been completed."

"The Divinity descends and settles in the disciple's Heart, who becomes entirely filled by Him. Captivated by the "Ardent Fire" of the Divine Essence, the disciple stops thinking, feeling, acting, and even existing. He has become pure Love and Compassion, and this is what he spills on all the beings." (Source: http://www.ramalinga.com)

One crosses "the threshold of the Unitive Way where God with name and form will disappear and ultimately the worshiper and the worshiped, the seeker and the sought, the soul and the Godhead, will merge into each other. Our Swaamikal is now ready for the highest of all possible acts of grace, the crowning glory of the long years of thavam. (Source: G.Vanmikanathan in his "Pathway to God Trod by Saint Ramalingar", Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bombay.)

"The Swaamikal was modesty incarnate. He did not like the limelight before which he was exposed to the world. After having gained all the Siddhis and attained the highest possible state, a man of such stature, Ramalinga Adigal chose to stay away from the limelight but the Lord acted otherwise. He (God) spoke to Raamalinga Swaamikal who was the chosen Son of God in the nineteenth century to establish a universal brotherhood of man freed of all shackling fetters of castes and creeds, of rich and poor, of black or white, a universal brotherhood born of a sense of oneness in the eyes of God and based on compassion, on compassion alone."

THE BREATH

The spiritual evolution of Ramalinga Adigal is pretty obvious when one follows his initial laments, wailing, utterances, pleading, petitions, experiences, and final revelations that came as devotional out-pourings and have come to us as the Thiruarutpa.

G.Vanmikanathan in his "Pathway to God Trod by Saint Ramalingar", published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bombay, writes, "He (Ramalingam) is initiated by Murukan Himself into the methods of His worship."

Here we have to acknowledge that all saints have had a beginning in Bakthi or devotion too. What does devotion bring upon us then? Vanmikanathan translates a song of the saint regarding this.

"Oh Guru Who came into my mind and bestowed the perception that through ritualistic worship of Pathi (God) and similar good rites, the creaturely instrument of understanding called the mind will be rid of impure concepts and stand established in pure contemplation and, thereby, the state of true union with Pathi with the result; that, thereupon, buddhi, the power of ratiocination, freed from (the triad of) bonds will merge in the mind, and that, forthwith, the state of absence of incoming and outgoing will be gained in the shape of unwavering real gnosis."

Ramalingam as a kid had already defined Gnanam. We understand that man has to arrive at knowing the Pathi through rituals and devotion. Impurity in the body, confusion, and delusion in the mind then give way for the Buddhi to arise which in turn makes way for true knowledge or Gnanam to dawn on us.

Temple worship is necessary to kickstart us on this fascinating journey of Self-discovery. G.Vanmikanathan writes, "The five courtyards in the temple represent the five sheaths of a human body."

Swami Saravanananda in his English rendering of the original in Tamil of Ramalinga Adigal's "Arutperunjhoti  Agaval", published by the  Ramalinga  Mission, Madras, writes, "Whenever He comes and initiates us, something happens within that is beyond our senses and control. It seems like he is working on another sheath of our body."

G.Vanmikanathan continues, "The devotee crosses these entrances to the innermost court. At the sacrificial altar, he sacrifices his Aanava Malam."

We learned that Aanava Malam was the distinction between the JeevAtma and ParamAtma in an earlier post.

G.Vanmikanathan continues "At the flagpost (or kodimaram), he reinforces his faith, and resoluteness of his purpose here."

"Freed from religious bigotry, and freed from the clutches of religious scriptures, removing doubt and misconception that made him pure, zeal or great energy or enthusiasm in the pursuit of the cause and objective (that of merging in the divine) brought on discernment or the ability to judge well" in Ramalinga Adigal.

G.Vanmikanathan continues "He proceeds now to worship God in the sanctum sanctorum where the eternal effulgence shines."

Swami Saravanananda says "The various kinds of curtains or veils that surround the soul and prevent it from having a clear vision of the great effulgence" are removed. "With the removal of the last (standing) screen, the self (that is the JeevAtma) stands face to face with the resplendence merging in the effulgence to become part and parcel of it (ParamAtma) and perform all the functions of the effulgence to make other selves realize the same level (that of Agathiyar)."

G.Vanmikanathan continues "It is the soul's experience that it should see itself elated to a state of joy first; from joy to ecstasy; and from ecstasy to an all-encompassing and surpassing bliss, as the soul is seen uniting with Civan to the point of extinction of duality, to the point of the absence of any difference between the soul and Civan."

"The man who says I am the slave or servant of God affirms two existences - his own and his God. But when he says "I am God" he has made himself non-existent and has given himself up. "I am naught; he is all there is; nothing but God's. I am God" is an expression of great humility," says Jalaluddin Rumi.

Now I understand why Agathiyar knowing pretty well I had no desire and wants, asked me if that was what I wanted and waited on me to reply when I cooked up a wish that I be born again and again to serve him as I did now. He wanted me to rid of the ignorance in me that we were different and apart.

Earlier Tavayogi too had asked me the same if that was what I wanted when I asked to see Agathiyar and Ramalinga Adigal. He said that they would materialize but asked me to reconsider if that was what I wanted. After the short journey following him into the jungles and caves and back to his ashram, as we sat at a tea shop to take a drink and a break, I told him that this journey should not be like any pilgrimage that a devotee or travel that a tourist undertakes. I asked him to give me something that I could take back and practice on. Upon reaching his ashram he called me up and gave me a Dheeksha that would connect me to my breath or Vaasi.

After 19 years Agathiyar came to acknowledge that the breath or Uyir or Vaasi was indeed Vaalai. Ramalinga Adigal came and told me that all the Siddhas including him came to Vaalai eventually. One has to finally take hold of the breath to move up the ladder, leaving the earlier phases of Sariyai and Kriyai. This breath that came as the fire in all of our rituals, and that helped fan the Fire of Devotion soon came as the Prana as we did Pranayama, to fan the Tava Kanal or the fire and heat of austerity. This breath then awakened the Fire of Kundalini in the Muladhara chakra and fanned it to move through the various other chakras till it settled at Sahasrara, the crown chakra. The heat of this fire melted the solidified ambrosia so that we could partake in the bliss and forever remain in the state of Sat Chit Ananda.

G.Vanmikanathan now brings us to the juncture where Ramalinga attains Jeevan Mukthi.

"Here ends our Swaamikal’s journey on the Pathway to God. He has arrived. He has become a Jeevan Muktha, a seeker who has gained what he sought, and who has reached the end of his quest. Swaamikal had indeed arrived at his goal, at his journey’s end, and he has nothing more to do on earth than to spend the remaining years prescribed for him by praarabdha-karma in adoring contemplation of the Godhead and in loving service to all creatures. The point of utmost importance in Advaita is that every seeker after deliverance may hopefully aim at the goal of Jeevan Mukthi …"

But having attained the state of Jeevan Mukthi, Ramalinga yearns for "everlasting evanescent bliss and eternal union. He yearns for Videha Mukthi -  disembodied release from the cycle of death and birth."

"Liable as it is to disease and decay, to pain and putrefaction, the Jeevan Muktha now longs for release from the body, longs for death. The body which was an asset for so long has become a liability as soon as the Jeevan Muktha state has been attained, as soon as the mystic union with God has been achieved. The mystic lives with dread for his companion, the dread of losing the bliss, the ecstatic union with God. So the Jeevan Muktha now longs for death, for release from the human body, for eternal bliss and union everlasting. He has obtained, it is true, supreme bliss, but still not evanescent bliss; he has obtained union with God, but still not eternal union. On having these beatific visions, wisdom and peace descend on the mutinously impatient Jeevan Muktha, impatient for death, impatient to shed the human body, impatient to gain Videha Mukthi."

I guess that is the reason Agathiyar too told me to hold that thought to another time for he said that I had a purpose to accomplish first. In having these beautiful conversations with the Siddhas, if Agathiyar told me "Let wisdom descend on you", his other half Lobama told me "Let peace descend on you."

With their grace, the final phase of the journey will come along in its own time. "This is the stage of the merger into Oli Degam or Light. A spiritual rapport between Raamalinga Swaamikal and the Godhead, which has grown stronger and stronger with the years, a rapport that has grown into the relationship of bride and bridegroom" says G.Vanmikanathan in describing Ramalinga Adigal's final moment of union with the Lord.

CLEARING THE HOUSE

The internal cleansing is still going on I guess for I threw up bile and the food I took for lunch last evening. The Siddhas do not ignore the body, life, and soul, hence the reason they have spent time and effort researching and documenting and leaving behind practices and blueprints for healthy living. In taking the building blocks and their essence from the five elements, the body took on its dosas or impurities too. Added to these, the karma of past actions came to be assigned hence taking a human form that was impaired by these two factors. So did the Siddhas lay out the procedures for transforming the physical body that is in the state of Asuddha Deham and impaired by impurities to one that is purified, the Suddha Deham as in the former and showed us the means to tackled our karma as in the latter.

What then is a Siddha Recipe for Good Health? For a start, Dhega Suddhi, or cleansing of the body would incorporate restricting the urge to consume more than the body needs, abstaining from consuming processed food. However, this is pretty tough in current times. Opting for Satvic food rather than those of Rajasic and Tamasic nature is a plus. Taking specially prepared laxatives once every 4 or 6 months to flush out the toxins and dosas or impurities goes a long way to keeping the internals functioning optimally. Consuming Kaya Kalpa herbs promotes general health, repairs, builds, and rejuvenates the body.

Bhuta Suddhi or cleansing of the elements in the physical body through taking for instance Agathiyar Kuzhambu, a purgative, specially prepared the Siddha way, rids the body of excess Vata, Kapha, and Pitta and brings the proportions of these three dosas to a balanced state. Taking Triphala helps maintain and sustain the ratio. It is interesting to note that the dosas are composed of the elements. Vata is composed of space and air; Kapha is composed of earth and water; and Pitta is composed of fire and water. It is equally interesting to know that they carry attributes or qualities that govern our composure and emotions that stem as a result of a balance or an imbalance in our dosas respectively. Just as it is a known fact that the breath switches between the nostrils every two hours, we learn that there is a cycle of times as to how the dosas rule the day too.

Nadi Suddhi involves breathing techniques to clear the nerves and channels for Prana to flow through unobstructed and the inner energies to traverse through to the higher chakras. Clearing and cleansing the airways brings unobstructed fresh and large supplies of prana that combined with all the earlier measures prepares the body to become the perfect vessel for the divine to take abode in us. Korakar in his "Chandraregai 200", mentions the means of retaining the breath within and subduing the mind at the same time, making this body God's dwelling.

When Sri Raghavendra was tested by some deceiving folks to revive a boy whom they had asked to play dead, the saint tells them that he cannot as the breath or Uyir had departed for real. The breath runs through us traversing day and night keeping us alive. When we lose our breath the whole house collapses. Agathiyar has mentioned that he breathed prana into his devotee to save him.

The Siddhas realized that the only "apparent difference between the living and the dead was the function of respiration." This would mean that the breath or Uyir stands guard and is the guardian. This observation mooted the Siddhas to find ways to increase and retain the Prana that attaches itself to air and energizes and revitalizes all of creation including both the world around us and us. Tavayogi once told me "Breath is God." Agathiyar has revealed the same that Vaalai the child deity was in fact the breath that keeps us alive. He asked that we worship her as the breath. Those who still need an external image can gaze at it. It shall bring one within to observe the breath eventually.

When we are active our breathing fluctuates according to the activity and emotions that arise. But when we become aware of breathing the only remaining thoughts subside in the breath, what prevails is total consciousness of the breath. It is rather timely that Agathiyar too has brought us to watch the breath. Having us go within by asking us to watch our breath reduces our interaction with the outside world. We become aware of this subtle breath that has been with us since birth, that is subdued by our continuous flow of thoughts taking precedence. We then work on the breath and bring it to the forefront driving our thoughts back. The breath then becomes the link between the individual consciousness and the universal consciousness. Now we understand why Agathiyar and Ramalinga Adigal came, again and again, to ask us to go within, become aware of our breath, and settle in it. Though it was difficult, it is the simplest means to reach consciousness. Hence we understand why Agathiyar engaged us in a thorough cleansing of the house - to make the body an appropriate vessel to receive and accommodate the divine within. By watching the breath, and bringing our awareness to it, the Jeevatma or individual soul is united with the Paramatma or the source, momentarily initially and permanently in time to come.

We have invited a Siddha physician, astrologer, and a head of a Peedham Arivananthan Aiya to give us a health talk, the Siddha way to healthy living, and to examine and dispense Siddha medicine if required on Sunday 18 February 2024. A Pornami Puja where the kids light up the Homam is scheduled for Saturday 24 February 2024 and the next day the adults shall come together to carry out Pranayama before Agathiyar. On Sunday 17 March 2024, we have arranged for Haary Roshaahn Yograj to read the "Spiritual Numerology of Moses" or better known as the "Soul Contract Reading" where they will have the opportunity to know their purpose here if they are interested. All these events are put together in the hope that devotees would come to realize how important this body or Udal is to become aware of the breath or Uyir that links us to the soul or JeevAtma that has come for a purpose here and upon accomplishing it, make the journey back to the ParamAtma.

AGATHIYAR

I am glad Tavayogi asked me if that was what I wanted when I shared my desire to see Agathiyar and Ramalinga Adigal with him. They would have materialized before me as Tavayogi said and my journey would have stopped there. I would have accepted them with a form and figure and name and would not have seen their other dimensions. I would be arguing with others regarding their form stating that what I saw was the truth. I would have been condemned to living in that state.

I'm glad that Agathiyar like Tavayogi asked me if that was what I wanted when I replied to him that I would love to be born again and again and serve him as I did now when I was cornered by him asking what I desired and he kept waiting for an answer. He would have granted my wish and I would come back to repeat the same never seeing further progress. I would have held to worship as "The Way" and not see further the many paths that were out there. I would have been condemned to living in that state.

It is because I held on to what was told and instructed and was willing to let go when asked to do so that I could move up the ladder and discover the myriad possibilities and probabilities in reaching out to the Divine.

He asked that I let go of all my readings, understanding, home puja, and Yoga practice picked up from the books and came after 14 years to fill me in with his divine knowledge. He enlightened me on the reason for people's sufferings that I had questioned. He set me on worship to the Siddhas and other deities. He had me read his Kaanda Nadi initially and continue with his Aasi Nadi where he guided me on the path and phases of Sariyai, Kriyai, Yogam, and Gnanam having me drop the former and move on to the next phase till he left me naked under the sky and connecting me with the Prapanjam, for all my further needs. It is so wonderful. It has indeed been a wonderful journey traveling with Agathiyar. One would be tempted to ask 'Who are you" as Gowri Arumugam and Tavayogi penned the lyrics of the song Karunai Vizhiyaal" and as I asked him too.

So who is he? Writing on Agathiyar's origin at https://holysageagathiyar.com/, Vashisht Vaid says that he was the very "Vital Radiant Consciousness of Adi Ganesha in a Human Form" that  Adi Param Shiva desired.

In Ancient Vedic Times he is said to be the "Radiant Conscious Son of Celestial Nymph Urvashi".

During the Treta Yuga, he was said to be the "Radiant Conscious Son of Maharishi Pulatsya".

He is said to be "the Divine Embodiment of Mercury or Budhan Consciousness, vitally incarnated in a Human Form upon this planet to Enlighten the Human race".

Lord Muruga, on the other hand, is said to be the "Other Desire Mind Son of Param Shiva, Lord Kartikeya having the Mangal or Mars Consciousness of Mitra Avatar Narasimha".

"Lord Shiva himself appeared in the temporal form of a Supreme Teacher known as Lord Dakshina Murthi, giving discourses of Divine Celestial Wisdom to enhance the vital wisdom of Sage Agastya. The Embodied form of Param Shiva Consciousness manifested as the Supreme Teacher Lord Dakshina Murthi along with his consort named Shenbhaga, then addressed all the Seers and Sages who especially gathered for this Grand Occasion, who under the Guidance and Patronage of Sage Agathiyar formulated a Siddha Group named the Sangam, and since then the Great Sage Agathiyar is considered by all Seers and Sages as the founder establisher of the Tamil Shaiv Siddhanta Sangam upon this planet Earth."

Thavathiru Rengaraja Desigar in his book, "POTRINAL UNATHU VINAI AGALUM APPA", explains the process through which Agathiyar attained the highest state, that of becoming one with Erai. This state was granted to Agathiyar by his Guru Supramaniar (Lord Muruga). Its translation from Tamil goes as follows.

"Agathiyar mentions that he learned the Siddha way from Supramaniar. Supramaniar granted Agathiyar the body of Light or Jhothi Nilai in the following birth as an appreciation for Agathiyar's service rendered to him and helping Supramaniar himself achieve his desire in attaining the Jhothi Nilai. All the knowledge to attain the state was made available to Agathiyar by Supramaniar because Agathiyar had provided the space, shelter, and all comforts for Supramaniar to carry on with his penances (tapas) and austerities (tavam) in a past birth.

Agathiyar was 60 years of age then when Supramaniar attained the body of Light through his tapas, thanks to Agathiyar looking after all of Supramaniar's needs. Supramaniar promised Agathiyar that they would meet in a subsequent birth and that he would return the favor. In the succeeding birth, Agathiyar traveled in vain in search of his ideal guru. He eventually met Supramaniar at Kodaikanal, where Supramaniar made him recall the past and as promised in return for all his services in the past birth, blessed Agathiyar and taught him secrets of attaining the state of Erai. Agathiyar began by performing puja to Supramaniar. By way of devotion to Supramaniar, he began to realize that he had had the greatest gift which was the human birth, which comes by very rarely. Through Supramaniar he came to know himself and the divinity that resided in the physical body. He understood the very Nature that brought him forth and resided within him. With Supramaniar's guidance and blessings, Agathiyar relished the ambrosia or nectar that came about through his tapas. This removed the seven veils to reveal the Jhothi in him, hence attaining the body of Light. With this came Bliss, Siddhis, and the state of Deathless-ness. Agathiyar attained the five tanmai of Erai namely Creation, Sustenance, Destruction, Veiling, and Showering Grace.

Supramaniar granted Agathiyar the titles of Gurumuni and Kumbamuni and sent him off to spread the Siddha way extensively all over the globe, bringing many into his fold. All the Siddhas soon looked upon Agathiyar as their Guru."

Today Agathiyar stands before us as Guru too.

Dr. Mandayam Kumar from the Siddha Medical Research Institute in Bangalore, "gives a short narrative about Sage Agastya at the beginning of the Kali era, since when our present civilization has its origin. Sage Agastya is stated to have been born nearly 5000 years before the commencement of Kali Yuga, at a place in Gujarat, as the son of Bhargava and Indumathi who followed the traditional Pasupatha cult which was widely prevalent at that time". In another article of his, SIDDHA AGASTHYA – FOREMOST OF THE SIDDHAS, passed on to me by Nadi Nool Aasan T. Ramesh many years back, Dr. Mandayam gives more details. Read further at https://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2017/08/the-many-origins-of-agathiyar.html

Pa. Kamalakannan in CITTAR URUVIL SHIVAPERUMAN, Vanathi Pathippakam, 2007 (Kamalakannan, 2007), says Agathiyar married Yasomadhi from Cambodia. Among his children who ruled the land, Yasovarma became a famous ruler.

P. Karthigayan in his HISTORY OF MEDICAL AND SPIRITUAL SCIENCES OF SIDDHAS OF TAMIL NADU, quotes Bhogar as having mentioned that Agathiyar was from a family of farmers. This little-known fact was mentioned by Agathiyar in the Nadi reading for AVM too.

M. Govindan in BABAJI AND THE 18 SIDDHA KRIYAYOGA TRADITION, Kriya Yoga Publications, Quebec, Canada, 1991, details Agathiyar's journey as starting at Agastya Ashram near Nasik (Pancavati in ancient times), marriage to Lobhamudra, king Vidarbha’s daughter (mentioned in the Mahabharata).

Pon. Govindaswamy in his book, SIRSABAIYUM PORSABAIYUM, Bharath Book Bureau, 1985, mentions that Agathiyar took birth as Valluvar and gave us the TIRUKURAL besides other texts. He mentions that Agathiyar took birth as Ramalinga Adigal in the 19th century and gave us the TIRUARUTPA.

For one who has seen Agathiyar in the form of light in the hills of Kallar and who comes to speak to him, what has Tavayogi to say about Agathiyar's origin?

Agathiyar fills Jnana Jothiamma with information about who the Siddhas are.

Dr. VN Jayapalan of Bangalore was shown the origin of the very first temple for Agathiyar that stands to this day at Agasthiyampalli, of which its replica was at AVM in his moments of meditation. He had released this story and others in an audio CD entitled AGATHIYAR THIRUVILAIYADAL.

Wondering what could be his origin, Surendaran Selvaratnam agreed to ask Agathiyar himself for answers to his origin the next time he went for a Nadi reading. Agathiyar partially fulfilled our interest to know in 2017. Its translation from Tamil goes as follows.

"Agathiyar in his very first mortal birth, had the vision of Kailash at a very young age of 10. After the vision, he took up extreme tapas (tavam) including breath control. With the holy feet of the Sadguru forever in his thought, he reached a state of Nirmala at Kailash. Upon receiving theecha from Lord Kailai Esan, he was blessed to be born a Siddha. It was a mystical birth. Agathiyar adds that it was not necessary to dwell on the source and the details (Rishimulam Nadhimulam).

Born as a Siddha now and moving in the jungles, sustaining only on fruits, his thoughts fixed on Erai, having no attachment to the good or bad, he soon had the vision and grace of Goddess Vana Kali. Continuing with his seeking and search for realization, and further severe tavam, Lord Kailai Esan shows him his vision in Pothigai. Merging with Erai, Agathiyar stayed on at Pothigai upon Lord Kailai Esan's directive. While here he came to know about the medicinal benefits of various herbs and plants. Agathiyar received the names of Kudamuni, Kumbamuni, and other names from Lord Kailai Esan.

Going without food and remaining in silence, staying in the state of Vasi, adhering to the eight limbs of Asthanga Yoga and performing extreme tapas, for the rest of the Yuga, gaining the Siddhi to travel through air,  yet Lord Kailai Esan told Agathiyar that there was something that he had failed to accomplish and do. When Agathiyar asked for further clarification, Lord Kailai Esan laughed and looked him straight into his eyes, "Although you are an embodiment of Gnana, and those who hold on to your feet shall never face any disappointments, Gurumuni you do not have a companion as I do."

Agathiyar was taken aback. He came to know that the Lord intended to get him engaged to the very representation of Mother Kaveri, and Kaberan's daughter, Lobamutrai. Hence in this Kali Yuga, his energy that was of Shiva Sakthi came to stay at Kalyana Theertam to bless all those who came seeking him and stood before him and Lobha Ma, seeing them as a personification of Shiva Sakthi."

Who is Agathiyar to us? If Dr. C. Srinivasan in retracing Ramalinga Adigal's footsteps, says that he had tasted the bliss of all the sixteen stages contemplated by the Vedas, by the permutation and combination of the four paths, such as Devotion  (Sariyai), Action (Kriyai), Meditation (Yogam), and Wisdom (Gnanam), one after another. With the aid of the Supreme Grace, he attained the ultimate goal of all the six heavenly avenues including Vedantham and Siddhantham, leading to Divinity.  "He had further given an exposition of his admittance into Sanmargam by the bounteous and boundless descent of the auspicious Supreme Being in him which has resulted in his immortality", similarly, unknowingly to us, Agathiyar had made us walk the path complying with the 5 tenets that he gave mankind. Living a life of ignorance in a world created by Shiva or Salokyam, he brought us away from Sariyai and came up close as in Sameepam, when we took up the tool of Kriyai. He stood in our thoughts in the moments of puja and stood in our actions when we did charity. He then had us take up Yogam having us attain the state of Sarupam, taking on his soul and form. Through His grace, we stand at the door to Gnanam and await the state of Sayujyam. These are the ways that Agathiyar has come to stay with us, leaving the pages of the sacred texts and volumes of books on him to stay in the homes and the hearts of his devotees. All these were possible by his grace and the grace and efforts of our gurus in physical form. We brought Agathiyar from the sacred texts and time immemorial to live with us in present times. He has adapted well to our present world too.
