LOOKING BACK

As I revisit my earlier Nadi readings, it dawns on me that the path was laid out even as early as when I was an embryo in my mother's womb. As Agathiyar explained to us, the Atma leaves after being with us for a period of time that is 1 to 5 Varaagai. The reason it is veiled was not revealed to us at this juncture. Our actions determine when the Atma resurfaces again.

Agathiyar stood watch over our (Jeeva)Atma and lent a hand in removing our karma through his Nadi revelation for us. Once the karma was out of the way, the search intensified, and we lost interest in our search for material gains. Now our search is fully centered on reaching Agathiyar.

When he leads us on the path, Agathiyar is realized as a vibration within. Prolonging these vibes will sustain us in his state. We are then a realized soul.

Traveling along, he came to lead us further, giving practices and encouraging us further, boosting our spirits along. It just needed us to arrive at the moment and after experiencing it to realize the fact that it was all laid out and mentioned earlier.

Agathiyar some time back asked that I share my knowledge on the Atma with those keen to learn. I was tasked to bring those lagging behind to the forefront.

Recently he asked that I share the changes that are going on within me so that those keen to reach the state of Jothi would know what they have to encounter and face.

I have to then go back and reminiscence what the Siddhas had directed me to do as to arrive at this moment.

TAVAYOGI'S DREAM

If Supramania Swami had a dream that he mentioned to me and together we set out to build a temple for Lord Murugan in Tiruvannamalai only to be stopped by divine intervention, Agathiyar had a dream that was conveyed to Tavayogi, upon ending his wanderings and have him build an ashram and settle in a place picked by Agathiyar that went by the name Agathiyar Vanam in the foothills of present-day Kallar. Agathiyar wanted Tavayogi to spread the teachings to our shores. Tavayogi came as a stranger following an Indian citizen working in Kuala Lumpur in 2004 and began his first sojourn spreading the worship and the path of the Siddhas in a temple along Old Klang Road. Subsequently, he came several times on the invitation of those who wanted to start Peedhams and movements and spoke in public forums. The First World Conference of Siddha Philosophy was held here in 2007 under his patronage too. Later Agathiyar coming in the Jeeva Nadi read by Tavayogi while in Malaysia in 2016, conveyed Chitra Muthu Adigal's wish to see us carry out Siddha puja in Lord Muruga's temple in Taiping.

Lord Muruga recently conveyed Tavayogi's dream and wish to us. Tavayogi wanted each home to become Agathiyar Vanam. Agathiyar came later and asks us to fulfill Tavayogi's dream. If Tavayogi brought the philosophy of the Siddhas to the macro level, Lord Murugan, Agathiyar and Tavayogi now want us to bring it to the micro level, into the homes and individual dwellings. We are honored indeed for having given a new purpose and tasks. I had always desired that devotees instead of gathering at AVM each week as most gather at the centers dedicated to the teachings of the Siddhas, pick up the tools and start the puja in their own homes instead. This way the extended family and their circle of friends too would get to savor the goodness of the Siddha path. It was for this purpose that Tavayogi and Mataji during their visit to Malaysia in 2016 accompanied Agathiyar in the form of the bronze statue at AVM to the homes of devotees who invited them for the Siddha puja. Now we are asked to pursue this further. I am glad that my wish and that of my guru are aligned. I sent our notices to those from the AVM family.

Let us make each home an Agathiyar Vanam and make Tavayogi's dream come true. Call if interested.

To those who responded, I sent out another message.

Gather family and friends and carry out the Siddha puja regularly in your homes and the homes of others. You can spearhead the puja in these homes for a start.

In turning each home into Agathiyar Vanam, I have to share how my home became Agathiyar Vanam in the first place so that aspirants and new devotees to the Siddha path would get an idea of what needs to be done to get the accreditation of Agathiyar Vanam from Agathiyar and have him come to stay in their homes too.

We continue with more revelations from my past Nadi readings.

13.1.2007 From Bhogar

FURTHER REMINISCENCE

After Agathiyar acknowledged that we are already there it justifies looking back on the events that brought us to where we stand today. We continue further. The reason I am sharing these notes now is to induce others to come to the path as there are those who want to know what benefits they can gain from something before venturing into it, though that should not be the reason to come into the Siddha path. It should be out of love for them and their teachings. But nevertheless, this might entice them to come to the path of the Siddhas and I would be deemed to have carried out Tavayogi's dream and wishes in wanting to see more homes turn into Agathiyar Vanam.

9.9.2006

SAVING LIVES

When someone does the extraordinary or a miracle, she or he is placed on the table to be studied. They end up being a specimen. The press wants a story. The religious authorities begin to monitor for any possibility to decree it as a hoax or a miracle. The person and those close to him are accused of making money out of his feats. A medical officer who read my blog walked up to me and asked if I could be hallucinating after reading the stories that I posted. I told him to walk the path I did and find out for himself. When there are some who would see miracles in everything there are yet others who find it difficult to believe in it. Why do men of science need to prove the authenticity of religions and spiritualism, I wonder? Men professing the latter, and steeped in tradition, don't explore the former and are quite contented in believing and practicing what has been handed to them for ages. Why do the former want to shake the faith of the latter and prove them as hoaxes and frauds? Agathiyar chooses to let things be though he knows the truth. He never jeopardizes the lives of people for the sake of truth. Hence many truths are buried to this day.

Would surrendering to the divine on the onset result in us not making any effort as in feeding that some claim would encourage them to drop all efforts to make a living? In the movie "Wonder" a journalist wanting a story lays the questions to a nurse engaged and paid to watch the miracle girl who has not eaten for some four months. A nun too is employed to watch her, but both the nurse and nun are not to exchange notes. The movie raises the question if we should intervene and if yes, when, or settle for prayers to save a life.

Nurse: Love requires some action, some intervention at some point not just standing by.

Journalist: His (the father of the child) faith, his prayer is his action.

Nurse: This isn't some philosophical point that we can debate. This is a child's life.

The journalist helps the nurse move the child and escape eventually saving her from the impending death that was a result of her fast, and avoidance of solids.

A humane person would try his level best to help another first. Only if all our attempts fail do we turn to the Almighty and wait for a miracle to happen. This reminds me of a story often told about a man caught in the rising floodwaters. Help comes his way in many forms but he rejects them. He adamantly wants God to come directly and save him. He eventually drowns in the floodwaters. Standing before God now he blames God for not saving his life. God answers that first he sent a boat but the man refused to board it. Then he sends a helicopter but still refused to board it. So how else was he to help he asked.

Knowing the reasons behind continuous birth and rebirth, Ramalinga Adigal cries his heart out, asking if he had done any of the following that warranted a rebirth. Reading through his list gives us shivers. We end up asking if we too had done them.

KNOW THY PURPOSE

I had just finished watching the movie "Yatra" a biographical film on the events leading to and the Padayatra undertaken by Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who came to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from May 2004 to June 2009. Here is a story of a man to be adored for his principles. He came for a purpose and saw it done. If I had thought that once we enter politics we have to let fly our principles here is one man who proved me wrong. What his father told him, that much good could be done if he entered politics resonates with what I told several "caring" citizens back then in 1994. When I was posted from a coastal village having served some eight years, to the capital city, I frequented a stall opposite my office building for my breakfast and lunch. A group would gather daily and review the day's news often picking on politicians and the state of affairs in the country. These negative reviews would have me finish my meal and leave immediately as I could not stomach the talk. I could not avoid this daily torment as I had no other option for a vegetarian meal except that which was served with love by the Muslim mother who saw and treated us as her own. After a short stint of eight months here, I was posted to a project site some 56 km away. After five years I came back to the HQ. The same group of people was there, having aged a bit. Some were missing but were replaced by new faces. But the reviews continued. I was shocked beyond belief. How could people be stuck in a time warp for years, vomiting the same opinions and views? Don't they change? Don't they move on? I walked up to them and told them that if they were truly interested in bringing a change in the country then they should enter politics and fight it out in parliament and not debate at a tea stall. I left the place in disgust.

It saddens me to see people caught in their own opinions, holding on to them till their very last days. Instead holding on to a principle would very much be welcomed. Even we who undertook this journey walking the Siddha path have made remarkable progress having learned and later drop our opinions, views, theory, and practices as we met new experiences that often ran down those that we held to previously. That is growing up spiritually. We are not here to implement a set of programs like the machines do. We are here to grow into wonderful creatures. Just as each leaf on the branch shall fall after seeing daylight, and grow anew, on a new branch, similarly seeing through the tasks and evaluating them we move on to better perform in the next tasks given. Though perfection is a far cry, at least we have tried to deliver our best.

Each soul is here for a purpose. We need to know our purpose and life, figuring out and charting what to do. The Siddha's Nadi, a wandering Siddha, a guru, or sitting in meditation could all bring us to know our own purpose here. In knowing our purpose we shall then work in tandem with the energies prevalent around us, roping them in our time of need. Their agenda would be for the greater good instead of the good of an individual self. When Tavayogi's daughter could not accept the fact that her father had taken a resolve to become a mendicant, Agathiyar came to console her in a Nadi reading. He told her if he was to stay he would only be a father to her and her siblings. But if he was to leave he would become a father to many. Tavayogi chose to follow Agathiyar's wish and dream and left home. After his wanderings, he was asked to stay put in a place that Agathiyar pointed out to him as Agathiyar Vanam. Tavayogi located the place at present-day Kallar and set up an ashram. Agathiyar then told him to go to Malaysia in 2004 which he did, to speak on the Siddhas. The following year saw numerous Peedhams, centers, and movements affiliated with him mushroom throughout the country. Agathiyar's dream was fulfilled by Tavayogi. When Tavayogi made his last rounds visiting devotees' homes to witness the Siddha puja in 2016, Agathiyar through the Jeeva Nadi in the possession of Tavayogi conveyed a message from Tavayogi's guru, Chitamuthu Adigal who wanted us to carry out a Siddha puja in the Thanneermalai Sri Thandayuthapani Alayam, in Taiping. His guru had been here and in many parts of Malaya then. We did as told. The Siddhas recently conveyed a message from Tavayogi to me asking me to turn each home into an Agathiyar Vanam just like my home had become. I am told that it is Tavayogi's dream. The ball is in my court and I have to figure out how I am going to go about fulfilling my guru's dream.

MAKING THE TRANSITION

If the task we undertake out of our desires brings us glory, and fame and finds us a place in history, doing Agathiyar's task shall place us in his story, in the pages of the Siddhas. We gain recognition in the eyes of the divine for we are doing his divine work. Agathiyar has a dream for each one of us just like our parents had a dream that we achieved. Now is the time to live out his dream. He has come to our level to convey his dream. He has come into our homes to convey his dreams. He has knocked on our doors. Should not we open the doors and let him in and hear him out?

Let us live for him. Let us take up his tasks. Let us bring pride and fame to him. But even the last wish he shot down asking me how can anyone possibly bring fame to someone without form. He said, "As Agathiyan is a vibration who can bring fame to him?" "Put to work whatever he says", was his reply.

It seems following their directives is sufficient in this era of confusion, fraud, misappropriation, wrongdoings, and many more. Agathiyar had made it pretty simple for us to board his bandwagon and make progress in good time bringing us to the kingdom of Lord Siva. He has taken in and embraced the children too. For instance, my 2-year-old granddaughter travels with the book of hymns "Kandhar Sasthi Kavacham" asking any adult near her to read the song. She would ask her mother to read it to her before she goes to bed. When she comes over to my home she would pick a book from my bookshelf at random and ask me to read to her. The last she picked was "The Creation" by E.O. Wilson. Amazing right.

If we had seen the days of coming together to sing the praise of the Siddhas and the divine since 2002 ....

... these days we get the children to carry out the rituals and sing the praise of the Lord.

If the transition has taken place externally in our approach and methods to propagate the path of the Siddhas, Agathiyar has brought about subtle transitions within us too I realize. He has taught me to pardon others too. By pardoning me of my mistakes and flaws he has opened my eyes too. I have begun to understand that man shall err for he is learning too through experience. If Agathiyar could pardon me should not I pardon others?

DIVINE GRACE

Today I had a schoolmate who opted for early retirement (ASP) from the Royal Malaysian Police force to join the United Nations visit me. My wife, daughter, and I sat in awe listening to his stories while abroad trying to enable the delivery of the UN’s mandate and the delivery of development & humanitarian aid serving in high-risk environments such as Cambodia, Kosovo, Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Somalia.

Besides the numerous misses to his life and sicknesses, he made it through, to tell his tale. And I thought I had stories to tell. My stories pale before his and I told him that the only reason he was alive to tell his story is because of the numerous guardian angels safeguarding him from dangers way. How else could he have survived I asked myself. He too was grateful to the divine for standing by him. He opted to leave the local police force to join the United Nations because he wanted to educate his three children with the best education. If I knew of a father who was my colleague in the office back then take the bus to and fro traveling some 214kms daily so that he could send his son to tuition each night, this police officer dad placed his life in God’s hand and faced numerous risks to achieve his intended objective. I feel small before them.

There are many similar parents who make sacrifices for their children. It is my hope that these children do not desert them in their old age. The coming of old age is something that saddens us as our mobility becomes limited, and our senses lose their abilities too. Memory fails us too. Many sit and while their time waiting for death. But the Siddhas say that death can be avoided by transforming the physical body and its gross nature back into the subtle form from whence it arose once upon a time. But we have yet to see this happen or take place before our eyes. Even the masters tend to leave behind their mortal frame in samadhis created for them. Rare is it to find someone like Ramalinga Adigal who never left any trace of his physical body telling us that he had recycled it back into nature. When my mother passed away recently at the ripe age of 95, the priests who conducted the rituals right from the beginning, mentioned during the last ceremony we conducted at the riverside that my mother was not dead but was in the water that gushed passed us, in the soil of the riverbank where we stood on, in the morning breeze that brushed our faces and the air that we inhaled, in the heat of the morning sun that peeked over the skies, and in the very space that we stood in. My mother was one with nature. She had returned home to reassemble another form and take rebirth again. We too shall come back to take another shot at attempting to break the chain or cycle of death and rebirth. As Supramania Swami and Tavayogi told me we shall keep trying till we succeed. One day the divine shall mellow down and lift us up seeing the numerous attempts we placed.

Divine grace is essentially in sailing this river of life, across the rapids and currents. Divine grace is essential in sheltering us from the storm that threatens to wreck our lives. Divine grace is essential to protect us from the scorching heat of the fire that could burn the house down. Divine grace is essential to protect us from the avalanche or landslides that could sweep us of the very terrain that we claim as home. Divine grace is essential to protect us from suffocating inhaling the very air that keeps us alive.

The Siddhas drop us a line that if we hold on tight enough and begin to climb shall bring us ashore to the promised land. In taking a human birth half the battle is won. Next, we have to train our guns on the goal. With their grace, we shall see results.

GRADUATION DAY

When Agathiyar came recently I asked that we should attain his state to which he surprised us by telling us that we were already there and just that we were not aware and did not realize it. How was that possible I asked myself. Going by the definitions given of a Siddha in books and by the public, we were nowhere close to it. Even trying to place us on the numerous rungs of spiritual development laid out by Ramalinga Adigal we stood way down below. How was it that Agathiyar could place us in his team of players? We know pretty well that we do not qualify. We hardly did things worthy of carrying the tag. We know the number of disastrous things we have done in life. It warrants us to be thrown into the dungeons and burned in the fire pit. But yet the most compassionate Agathiyar took us under his arms and later under his wings grooming and nurturing us and now places us in a standing equivalent to them. It just doesn't add up. But Agathiyar would not lie. If it was indeed true then Siddhahood is not what has been written and spoken about by many authors and the general public. Agathiyar tears down the veil that was placed by humans. A Siddha then need not perform the feats that are always associated with them. A Siddha need not necessarily own a Nadi or their manuscripts. A Siddha need not treat people for their illnesses. A Siddha need not be a teacher to others. A Siddha need not perform miracles or magic as claimed by many. So who then is a Siddha?

I guess he is one who has learned to drop all desires and wants and needs for it is these that warrant a rebirth if unfulfilled or unaccomplished in this birth. He is one who has learned to give himself up to the cause of the divine rather than living out his ambitions and his plans. He begins to undertake the plans that the divine draws for him instead. He does not rush things. He goes with the flow of the divine will. He is but an instrument and a tool in the hands of the divine. With these characteristics does he then qualify for the status?

I guess not as yet as these are merely physical, material, and gross in nature. He has to engage with the subtle forces around him especially the Siddhas who are waiting to assist. By worshipping them we earn their attention and respect. They then come to rid us of the past karma that stands as a stumbling block preventing us from receiving the best in life. Once the karma is swept aside the path is clear for us to tread and journey further into the mystical, mysterious, and subtle worlds out there. We gain access to their worlds by letting them into our lives, our homes, and our hearts. Does this then qualify for the status?

I guess not as yet as he has to begin the transformation both within and without by changing his diet to that of satvic in nature and consuming certain herbal preparations that help cleanse and rid of the toxin accumulated within his flesh and tissues, bones and marrow, cells and elementals, in his current Asudha Deham. He is reborn anew when he attains the Sudha Deham by taking in further, herbal preparations that renew and strengthen his physical body. Does he then qualify for the status?

I guess not as yet as he needs to use the tool of Yoga, especially the control of breath or Pranayama and Asanas now to enhance the vital energies within by bringing in those that are in abundance in the Prapanjam. He needs to bring in more Prana within that literally lifts his pure physical body or Suddha Deham to that of Pranava Deham. He is shown the means to tap into the Prapanjam further. Just as in a flash of lightning where a spark rises up from the earth to meet the bolt of lightning from the skies, the inherent energies that were awakened by the process of Yoga travel to meet these divine energies and an explosion of sort happens within and a fusion takes place. Is this union that happens when the Prapanjam comes within as torrents of energies which is desired by the Siddhas? Does he then qualify for the status? I guess he does now.

When the energies begin to travel through the energy centers or chakras and eventually settle in the crown of the head, the flowering of divine knowledge takes place within. If initially the problems that brought on miseries in our lives before coming to the Siddhas were said to be placed on our path to enable us to work out our karma then, the problems faced after coming to worship them are said to strengthen the soul on the journey leading to the state of Gnana. The situation faced might be the same but its purpose has changed since we embarked on finding our soul. If the former was overcome by carrying out Agamas or rituals and remedies, the latter has to be battled by the mind. When the mind becomes the victor it is a sign that we have reached the state of Gnanam.

If prior to coming to the Siddhas we were wholely governed by the movements of the planets that bring on the respective gains or losses, happiness or sufferings, etc, in coming under the shadows of the Siddhas their influence on us is a thing of the past.

If prior to coming to the Siddhas we were wholely governed by the forces of nature, in achieving the state of the Siddha one is said to have control over them.

The Siddhas then trend in him or her, literally walking the face of the earth, having him or her carry out further tasks that they deem as required or necessary. On completion of the tasks, they then end their lives chapter here by leading them to their realm or world to further continue the tasks laid out for them there.

So after hearing Agathiyar acknowledge our status I look back to the many revelations that he gave through his numerous Nadi readings since the beginning of this journey to find that indeed he had mentioned this subtle progress, though it was not obvious to us back then.

If I was a Namboothiri priest from Kerala in my past birth and had tempered with the scriptures then and earned the wrath of the community that was a reason to be born again, in following the Siddha path I was given full freedom to experiment and modify the worship to my heart's content with the Siddhas often endorsing these moves. What came as a surprise was that Lord Muruga in asking me to build him a temple too told me that I shall do it differently. I guess this is what Agathiyar meant as there was no right or wrong. It is the society that determines what is right and what is wrong and differentiates and further creates partitions.

Giving me a history of my bleak past in my Nadi reading at the onset, Agathiyar throws in some hope for the future. But before it could come my way I had to go on a pilgrimage of temples to sweat it out ridding my karma. I was given remedies in the form of puja and charity to wipe the slate clean further. I was given breathing practices to cleanse the body and bring about Dega Suddhi, just as we cleansed the Self of the past karma. The practice would bring us to realize and become aware and touch the Prana within and regulate it. Agathiyar said that the guru shall come by in an unexpected way to help me further my practice. Even after having carried out the remedies that stood as a stumbling block preventing me from reaping the benefits of my practice, I needed the guru's touch to remove the veil completely. Only then shall I reap the goodness that was awaiting me he added.

When the next reading which came some three years later on 15.8.2005 was mysteriously erased after I had my second initiation from Tavayogi as instructed by Agathiyar, a rereading on 8.8.2005 explained it all.

Looking back at these Nadi readings made me realize that all that was said or predicted had happened just because I had adhered to their instructions and carried them out. It looks like the Siddhas too have lifted the rules to accommodate and take us into their circle.

THE SIDDHAS TOUCH

Ramalinga Adigal could not find the words. I too cannot find the words. There are just no words to describe the compassion of the Siddhas. They were all along with us. It was just that we did not know nor could sense their presence. It was at certain junctures in our lives that they came to reveal that they were traveling with us on this gross worldly journey. Upon revealing themselves we, in turn, have started traveling with them on the subtle journey of light, sound, and vibrations.

In the foreword to “An Introduction to the Philosophy of Saint Ramalingam” by Dr. C. Srinivasan, Rao Saheb K. Kothandapani Pillai BA wrote,

"When the transformation of that very subtle part of the being has been given fully to the divine, the individual becomes literally a beacon of bliss-light."

Even now Agathiyar says that we are not aware of our actual state telling us that we have passed the test. As we are dressed in the same tattvas we cannot see our present state. But the Siddhas know. Hence they keep driving us forward.

Looking back at my life, I have to bury my face in the sand out of shame for what I did. Yet they come before us addressing us. They tell us to let the past be and tell us it was all a lesson and experience that we needed to grow into. Agathiyar like Lord Krishna, even took on the blame, telling me it was all his doing for want of the experience for myself. There is nothing right nor wrong he often says. All these shall add up to our experiences he says. While the experiences are for us he only sees the soul he adds. He tells us that he was with us from birth, nay even when we were in the womb of our mothers. Each time we messed up our lives he was there to get us out of the mess. Each time we encountered danger he was there to save us.

I guess each man has numerous paths, journeys and travels laid before him. He chooses which way to go. Undecided at times he consults the family, friends, the elders, an astrologer, or the Siddhas Nadi. If all the previous could go wrong Siddha's advice would be the best bet for they know the past, present, and future. Yet at times the Siddhas predictions too do not happen or can court more trouble or so it seems. I guess there is much juggling and remapping of our lives once we come under the purview of the Siddhas. It must be tougher for them I guess but their love for us supersedes everything else. Just as we have heard of the Midas Touch, the Siddhas touch can do wonders but not in the ability to make money in all our ventures as in the former but in the ability to change the body into something much more precious. Speaking to Siddha physician and astrologer Thiru Arivananthan he pointed out a song that outwardly seemed to describe the means to make gold. But in actual fact, it was a means to change the body into one. Dr. C. Srinivasan in "An Introduction to the Philosophy of Ramalinga Swami" published by Ilakkia Nilayam, Tiruchi, 1968, wrote,

"In many verses (of the Thiru Arutpa) Ramalinga Adigal sings of how his ‘impure body’ of ‘impure elements’ was transformed into a pure body of pure elements, called a golden body of immeasurable carats (Swarna Deham). He sings that one has to think incessantly until he feels and melts with love for god. In such a melting mood one burst into tears and sings the praise of god and soothing warmth is produced in the aspirant. When this universal love and sacred warmth develop, the body, as well as the soul, became prepared for the descent of grace, in the form of light. When this occurs, the material body of impure elements is transformed into a ‘body of pure light’, emitting a golden hue. The ultimate and greatest transformation in human evolution: a transmutation into the godhead, which he referred to as merging with the body of supreme wisdom - the body of god supreme (Gnana Deham).

Swami Saravanananda in his English transliteration of Ramalinga Adigal’s “Arutperunjhoti Agaval” published by Ramalinga Mission, Madras wrote,

"With the descent of sufficient Divine Light, the psychic head begins to emerge. According to Vallalar, this psychic head (a crown or diadem of light) is made up of a special and highly refined type of brain called Omkar brain. As soon as it emerges, it draws more cosmic light; the more the light the greater the growth of the psychic head. With the advent of the psychic head, more and more changes take place in the already purified body. The cells and thence the whole body begins to transcend the limits imposed on them by impure Maya (the grosser principle of nature) and try to break one more of its veils. The cells undergo alternate condensation and expansion for an unspecified period and the body slowly emerges out of its bondage and begins to grow. This expanding and ever-prospering body is called the subtle body or the body of the Omkar or Pranava body. "

"With the functioning of the third eye, the transformation of the light body or Pranava Deham is completed and the next and final stage of transformation into the Gnostic body or Gnana Deham starts. The transformation of the Pranava body into a Gnostic body begins with the functioning of the third eye."

In speaking to Arivananthan about the current changes taking place within he says that the state of Sahaja Yoga would have us refrain from doing anything but instead have the divine energies do their work just as Agathiyar had said earlier when I enquired if there were more practices to be carried out.

When our initial work is done having placed efforts in carrying out the many practices given, the inner energies enhanced by these practices that have a direct link with the outer energies gather within and without churning the elementals and vital energies to rise and flower.

"These transformations eliminate the worldly substances in the body. What is retained is the form of their profile. All else is replaced. Substances of perishable nature will get replaced by substances of cosmic nature by altering the natural physical fabric through the science that prevailed then known as Kaaya Siddhi. On completion of the transformation, their body is retained forever."

THE SIDDHA

There is too much hype surrounding the Siddhas. They have been made to become out of reach creating a big gap between the common man and them. Look up the Siddhas in books written by the learned or articles on the internet or videos on YouTube the first thing we come across is that they are all desperately trying to give a definition of them. They tend to define the Siddhas as men with superpowers and beyond our reach. We come across the following definitions;

  • A Siddha is "one who is accomplished." It refers to perfected masters who have achieved a high degree of physical as well as spiritual perfection or enlightenment. Siddha may also refer to one who has attained siddhi, paranormal capabilities.
  • The Siddhar (Tamil: சித்தர் cittar, from Sanskrit: Siddha) in Tamil tradition is a perfected individual, who has attained spiritual powers named siddhi.
  • Siddhas possesses several superhuman powers called siddhis. These are anima, garima, mahima, laghima, prapti, prakamya, isitvam and vasitvam. A person who has acquired any of these siddhis is called a Siddha.
  • They are said to have attained the realization of siddhis (psychic abilities and powers) through their many lifetimes of spiritual practice. Their alleged magical powers are claimed to arise from the efficacy of their spiritual practice.
  • Siddhi is a Sanskrit word that literally means "accomplishment," "attainment," or "success." It is also used as a term for spiritual power (or psychic ability) in Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism. These spiritual powers supposedly vary from relatively simple forms of clairvoyance to being able to levitate, bilocate, become as small as an atom, materialize objects, have access to memories from past lives, and more,
and many more. By defining them we are placing a limitation on their abilities, capabilities, and strength for one. But is performing Siddhis really important to the common man? Even the spiritually enlightened Siddhas do not use these Siddhis unless called for, especially not to impress people or put on a show. Yet many chose to write about them. At times we read the same things mentioned across the numerous articles or books or talks on YouTube.  Here is why I prefer to read the autobiographies of the masters and gurus who share their personal experiences with Godhead and biographies of those close to them with whom they shared these experiences. These would be an authentic account of the state and mind of a Siddha. It helps us reach into the mind of these Siddhas.

Swami Chidvilasananda in writing on our scriptures in "Inner Treasures", a Siddha Yoga Publication, 1995, could not have described it better.

"What you are reading in the scriptures is the personal record, the experience of seekers who went across the sea of ignorance. They became known as the Siddhas, the knower of the truth, the great ones, and the elevated ones. You are reading the wisdom that came from all their effort, inspiration, and sacrifice. These verses are what they heard when they reached the most profound states of meditation. So, when you study the scriptures, what you are really doing is spending time in the company of these great souls."

Carl Sagan in an excerpt from the 11th episode of his legendary 1980s Cosmos series, titled “The Persistence of Memory” in referring to the book says that "One glance at it and you’re inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author speaks clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time." More so an autobiography or biography of someone.

I was happily going about my family life and career when Agathiyar figured that it was time I came to know about them. Prior to that, I was in Sariyai then, engrossed in temple worship and doing puja at home that I picked up from my parents. The Siddhas brought me to Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai and sent Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal of Kallar Ashram to our shores, the latter bringing me to step into Kriyai by introducing me officially to the worship of the Siddhas and bringing us into carrying out charity. Though I had picked it up from books earlier, Tavayogi officially taught me Yoga. Finally, after the passing on of my gurus, Agathiyar and the Siddhas began to pass on their divine knowledge or Gnanam to us educating us as we went along and experiencing a new facet of life beyond imagination. Indeed when the handful of us gather we cannot but pay tribute and gratitude to the Siddhas for bringing on so many changes in our lives. But all these changes were not apparent to us and neither to the others. Neither did the Siddhas lift us to the state of superhumans as was publicized. We were basically the same person minding our business as usual. But all the changes were taking place internally. Our perspective and hold on all things material changed. We dropped our wants and instead our priorities were now aligned with those of the Siddhas. We were continually given tasks to carry out by them. We were given practices to carry out. We were told to return to and carry out rituals as and when it was required or instructed. A feeling of completeness or Puranam settled within. Though the turmoil that was going on all around us does upset us at times, satisfaction, inner peace, and calm prevailed at other times. We began to realize the futility of trying to change the world but instead realize the potential to bring changes within oneself. Toeing the line that the Siddhas dropped us back in 2002, we saw much progress both material and spiritual over the years. Though we enjoyed every moment of what has showered on us the attachment to it was severed. We were ready to let go if the need arises. As we travel with them we are trying to comprehend life and its purpose. Once we get to know our purpose here which is of course set by them as opposed to living out our dreams, wishes, and desires, our mission in coming here shall be accomplished and we can leave telling ourselves that we have done our part and leave the rest to others to continue. We can then begin another chapter of our lives elsewhere in another realm or plane or dimension that is spoken about.

LET US INVITE IN THE SIDDHAS

Most of the time we do not know our true value or potential until we are either told or tested. The guru lays some tests to see and ascertain our self-worthiness. That is what Agathiyar had been doing I guess all these years and coming a day before when I asked that we should attain his Neri or path, he said some promising things to my wife and me. It lifted our spirits though it was unbelievable. Immediately our thoughts went to self-access and asking if we deserve the recognition. If in calling me to his worship in my Nadi reading, and Tavayogi in asking my wife and children to join me, and as we invited Agathiyar and the Siddhas in into our homes and our hearts, and in accepting and coming to our home he named it as his Vanam or garden, later taking up the rituals and Yoga Lord Murugan renamed the home as Agathiyar Tapovanam. Appropriate to the Gnana or divine wisdom he was to dispense and deliver later Agathiyar rebranded the home as Gnanakottam much earlier. This is how intimate they come within our reach when we take a few steps in their direction. Even the day before when a devotee saw him seated in our prayer room called my wife and me in, and as I asked that he stays put though it was selfish of me to ask that, he as usual like Tavayogi questioned me back whether I wanted him in my home or my heart. He made us extremely happy by saying that my home was his home too. I guess that is the reason Lord Murugan wanted me to turn each devotee's home into an Agathiyar Vanam.

A guru, like a beacon, keeps tabs on us and keeps us away from dangers way. What is needed is trust in him. If we doubt him we will tend to revise his plans for us. We then have to answer for our own doing. If we surrender to him he is answerable for our lives. He shall come to save us. I had completely surrendered to my gurus though I do question them when in need of clarification or to clear a doubt at times. I have turned down several offers and gifts of theirs too. I had refused to go places and meet other gurus that he suggested for the sole reason that I had reached his worship and feet. As he was my entire world just as we are the world to our young children I told him in the event he wanted to reward me let that happen in my home within the four walls. Today to our amazement it is all taking place in that small tiny room or Sittivalagam in AVM. They come to carry out their lilas, create chaos and lift us off our feet, heal us, dance with us, sing with us. In short, we are having a gala of a time. But there were times that they came down on us hard when we tended to gaze elsewhere and do not follow their asking. Asking him the day before if we had erred in traveling the path, and he replied it is all a lesson and an experience. He asked that we just follow all his directives.

Surrendering is a vital component or element in a guru-disciple relationship. It can make or break the relationship. Most people want the Siddhas' help but are only partially open to them. The Siddhas too go along with our game and eventually have us bring it out into the open. Nevertheless, they fail to realize that they are an open book. The Siddhas know us inside out.

As we neither know the Self nor our purpose here, the guru comes to help us find these answers. Sadly many pass away without even once inquiring about these matters. These are people who come to solely fulfill their cravings, desires, and wants says Tavayogi. Let them be he says. As their day begins with chores and errands to run and making a living to bring food to the table, these questions hardly come to their mind. But when it does arise, the search begins and the wanderings start. He begins to knock on doors and when he is told to look elsewhere, many give up in disappointment. If only we continue, someone someday might let us in into their home, where it shall all be known. Ramalinga Adigal knocked on Lord Siva's door continuously till it opened. Then he saw the wonder of wonders that he says only the Lord knows.

Once we surrender to him, he gives himself to us. He comes down from his throne that of Erai as a guru to bring us back to his palace. He becomes a friend and eventually becomes part of the family and takes up a dwelling in our homes and our hearts. We are then one with him. Our thoughts, speech, and actions are then all his. No karma gets attached further. Hence the cycle is broken.

REVISITING KUNDALINI

Kundalini is not something that we can manage by ourselves as a friend and devotee told me. We need a guru in the physical form or the Siddhas to monitor its movement in us so that it does no harm. I had no inkling that it had arisen in me as early as 2007 after putting into practice the Vaasi and Asana practices given by Tavayogi earlier that year. As such, I had nothing to tell my guru Tavayogi about it during his subsequent visits in 2008 and 2010. Agathiyar casually mentioned that they were amazed to see it rise in me in my Nadi reading later on 13.10.2007.

I did not give thought to it nor did I investigate further or researched it then. I was fit as a fiddle going about my career and family affairs without the least worry or fear.

On 9.8.2010 Agathiyar revealed  that the heat from the tapas or Gnana Kanal had risen.

It was later in 2010 that an excruciating pain struck my lower back and crippled me momentarily while in the shower. After the doctors gave me a clean bill of health I consulted the Nadi on 26.11. 2011. Agathiyar revealed that the Muladhara chakra had gained intense heat hence shutting my systems down. To add to it my three dosas were off balance or rather not in the ratio that sustains good health.

By the time I left for Kallar Ashram to meet Tavayogi with my family in 2013, the pain had left my mind and body and so the subject was not brought up to him.

On 28. 8. 2015 Agathiyar mentioned further changes that have taken place within me though it was all news to me. He said that his Jothi has expanded in me and the Suzhimunai had opened.

When Tavayogi was here for my daughter's wedding in June of 2016 I had the pain come back but rather mild. Mentioning the pain to him he gave me a herbal pill that he takes too. As the pain went away unnoticed and as I was fit to travel to India and his ashram later that year it did necessitate bringing it up to him.

The pain came back in the same intensity as originally when a sneeze came over me as I was crossing a street. On 7.10.2018 Agathiyar in the Nadi says that my breath was dislodged and blocked. It happened in my sleep, he said.

As Tavayogi had passed on earlier that year, he came through me to greet and address his friend and Nadi reader who was visiting me as he had heard that I was in pain. The energy with which he came aggravated my existing pain. As it was extremely intense Lord Muruga came immediately through a Nadi reading read by his friend and through another devotee to heal me.

Lord Murugan said that age had caught up with me. My spine and hips were tensed. The inner gel at these joints had dried up. This was the reason for the acute pain I was having. With some treatment done earlier, a quarter of the issue was overcome. He told me why I had to go through the suffering. It was to have me sit in one place and do tapas. But neither he nor Agathiyar abandoned me.

This was about the time Agathiyar had me stop all external activities and go within. We brought an end to the puja held at my home Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) and the charity programs we carried out under our charity arm Amudha Surabhi (AS). Besides the puja and charity that brought on the grace of the Siddhas and rid our karma, these had a hidden hand in raising the Kundalini further I guess for when Ram Dass asked his guru to raise his kundalini, he told him, "feed people."

On 5.9. 2019 Agathiyar came to reveal the reason I fell and lay in front of my bathroom door, crawling or slithering in pain like a snake. But it was blissful at the same time. Agathiyar said the Kundalini had arisen and had churned up the heat and fire within. He described the slithering as a sign of Kundalini moving. He too acknowledge that it was the bliss of bliss. If he mentioned further that the third eye and the crown had opened, and I was partaking the ambrosia within, it was indeed news to me. I was baffled as I knew nothing and there were no signs of it.

On 30.1. 2020 Agathiyar surprised me by asking me to restart the Vaasi practice learned from Tavayogi that he had asked to discontinue at the peak of my back pain in 2010.

"Currently, your breath is at the Svadhishthana. It is about time it opened up. This is the right time to start this practice. Sit before me and meditate. During this moment carry out the cleansing breath as taught by your guru. Just the important ones. You shall sense a coolness within. Remain silent in these moments. Focus on your breath. Your breath shall touch the Suzhimunai and swirl. Travel along your seven chakras. That journey shall awaken your chakras. After traversing these chakras when it touches the seventh you shall know your purpose here."

Ramalinga Adigal came on 14.5.2020 to explain further. "When you reach my state, energy will come within you without your knowledge. That is Suzhimunai."

"எனது நிலையை நீ தொடும்போது உன்னை அறியாது உன்னை நோக்கி ஒரு சக்தி உன்னுள் இறங்கும். அதுவே சுழிமுனை."

A translation of a song from Supramaniar Gnaanam 200 reveals more.

"Receiving the Vel from Valabai in return for her worship, and attaining a body of light akin to the moonlight, the Vel brought on a swirling within which brought me to witness the flowering of the 1008 petals. I remained in samadhi. The music within was heard (as Agathiyar too told me to listen to). The Manam was chained. I melted in the Karumunai or His abode. (If the journey within starts with the swirling of the Suzhimunai it ends in the Karumunai.) I was tied forever to the Peroli or Light that knew no bounds and boundaries."

On 22 August 2022, Agathiyar allayed my fear telling me "You shall witness many changes taking place within you. Do not fear. Due to the activation of the chakras your body shall emit a foul smell. You shall have constipation. You shall urinate often. Take lots of warm water.  The Agathiyar Kuzhambu you took did help in expelling the three dosas. But there is still more filth that shall be expelled in due time. Carry out the said practice."

Shortly after, upon waking up and stretching myself in bed at 6.40am  I felt a pull of a nerve and a tug right below the navel. It brought on a swirling sensation followed by a chillness. My whole body became numb right to the tips. Soon I felt nauseous and had the urge come on to pee and urine. I collapsed twice on the way to the toilet picking myself up each time. Back from the toilet, all was fine. It was blissful.

The next day, I woke up at 7.20am, to go to the loo but I could not piss. I fell again. I picked myself up and climbed onto the bed. My body became numb from the shoulders down. I lay like a dead log on my bed. Although I could not move even an inch of my torso I was able to see, hear and talk and was aware of what was happening to me. I asked myself if this was what a dead body would feel like. Soon the experience went away.

Seeking answers to what had taken place, Agathiyar cleared the air later. He told me not to worry and said that the stagnated water was released. Nevertheless, he gives a warning to all of us. When the chakras are activated late in life it would have some adverse results on our bodies. When the heat of tapas increases in our body, blood flow will be less bringing on numbness. This would result in urinary and excretion problems.

The swirling sensation felt for several weeks in the abdomen just below my navel was regularly felt in the crown of my head but with a lesser intensity. I guess this is what Agathiyar meant when he said I shall feel a magnetic wave arise. A couple of days later, it seemed more like a flowering of petals and was blissful.

On 19 October 2022 as I lay on my sofa in the living room with my eyes close, my finger that was touching the crown of my head could feel a pulse. This is usually observed in small children. Modern science brushes this off as "feeling a pulse in the fingertip. It refutes that "there is no way that our fingers would be able to detect any blood flow given the condition that between the finger and the scalp and the arteries of our brain is the skull." It was there for some time.

The pain similar to that which I had endured in the years between 2010 and 2012 in my lower back originally over time moved to the groin, at times the left and other times the right, and the testes, and later to the chest and then the left of my neck and the back of my head. It resulted in pain in the left ear too. The pain and discomfort after holding base at those places mentioned would leave after several days on its own accord for the next campsite. Excessive wind would be expelled from the body during these times. It left me completely eventualy. A chillness and swirling that is akin to a flowering goes on irrespective of my daily activities these days. It is more intense each time I bring my attention to it. Following the flowering in the crown that goes on without my participation or action, I asked Agathiyar what I should do further. His reply was to do nothing and that it shall do its work. Since Agathiyar said the energies will do the rest, we have basically become a dynamo. The breath that is akin to the river turns the turbine machine in our case the chakras to produce electricity and energy.  A clear nostril is a highway for these energies to hitch on the breath and make their way swiftly to the depo at the top of the head. The body is now a magnet that is attracting the effulgence from beyond. We understand that while we see lightning appear in the skies and strike things on the ground, there is a small amount of electricity that reaches out to it from the earth. The small amount of electricity meets the larger expanse that is God.

What can I say of the Siddhas? If Tavayogi in bringing me to the abodes of the Siddhas in the jungles pointed to the skies and told me the Siddhas were showering us with flower petals then, and Agathiyar said the same, in going within the flowering happens in the sky of our torso, the crown. If Agathiyar told me back then that the skies had opened up both in Kallar and AVM during his Jayanthi puja, during the recent Sivarathri he said that the Prapanjam had split opened and was showering its goodness to those who tap it.

Contrary to the hype that surrounds raising the Kundalini to gain powers or control or Siddhis, I came to understand that it was to lead us to Gnanam or divine wisdom. Agathiyar reveals that "All this while you have gained external knowledge or Ulaga Gnanam. Now you shall gain Gnanam that is going to serve you." Agathiyar reiterates that "When one starts the journey in going within, the result is Gnanam." Just as no one can predict the path the Kundalini takes, Agathiyar too says that of Gnanam that it shall vary among people. "Hence I cannot say exactly what shall take place."

AN ATTEMPT TO REACH THE STATE OF JOTHI

As we dwell on spiritualism and prod it going deeper and deeper, we think we have found answers and understood. But an equal number of new questions and doubts keep popping up. For instance, if this world we live in and all of creation is considered by the saints and learned as Maya then how is it that the Siddhas have gone into the intricacies of creation and written and sang about them to the minutest detail? Ramalinga Adigal speaks about the many worlds beyond our earth. If the entire material creation that we see around us is a manifestation of Prakriti or Maya, why did the Siddhas give so much reverence for it? If all was Maya why did Ramalinga Adigal speak about the directions where one seeking specific benefits should turn to and sit in meditation. If this body was a work of Maya why did they go to the extent of discovering all about it and took measures to maintain it in top form? If everything was temporary in nature why did our ancestors leave behind sastras as in the erection of temples and its agamas to follow? Why did they gift us the gift of astrology and the Nadi? Why did they gift us Siddha and Ayurveda medicines and methods of treatment? Why did the Siddhas "perform all the spiritual, medical, and scientific marvels", if it was all an illusion. Why did so much work go into all these if only to have the floodwaters wash it away? It is said that most of Arunagiri's works were swallowed by the sea. What remains is only some 3,000 songs from his estimated 16,000. When some saints shed the body telling us it is but a bag filled with air and sought to know the soul instead, why did the Siddhas treat the Dosas and have us consume Kayakalpas to strengthen it? They can always nip us in the bud telling us it is all Maya and have us dwell in the Spirit and Atma at the onset. Why did fellow Siddhas condemn certain practices that were given to mankind by their own kind? Did they arrive at the truth?

P.Karthigayan sheds some light on this in his book "History of Medical and Spiritual Sciences of Siddhas of Tamil Nadu", Notion Press, 2016. He differentiates these two preferences and ideals, adding that the Siddhas preferred physical immortality to spiritual immortality. The author tabulates his findings, the gist of it is given as follows. While spiritual immortality is attained through means of yoga, physical immortality was possible by consuming karpam or elixirs. One who attained physical immortality was considered a Siddha and one at par with Erai, while spiritual immortality brings one to the stage of a Deva or Gandarva. The Siddha who has attained physical immortality remains in the midst of people striving for their betterment while the spiritually immortal disassociates themselves from worldly affairs. The next comparison is interesting since the author mentions that physical immortality is attained by avoiding the causes of death while spiritual immortality is attained by erasing these same causes. While spiritual immortality preserves the soul and spirit, physical immortality is gained by preserving the body, soul, and spirit hence arising the need to care for the body. Physical immortality would mean no death while spiritual immortality suggests postponing birth. Interesting. The next factor in comparison is interesting too. While the one who has attained spiritual immortality abandons the body in Samadhi, the body is reinstated through several transformations in physical immortality. While the spiritually immortal lives longer with an aged body, the physically immortal lives longer with a youthful body. I suppose we can safely say that the spiritually immortal is a Gnani and Yogi while the physically immortal is a Siddha.

What are time and space then? We come to know that the gregorian calender we follow now "went into effect in October 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a modification of, and replacement for, the Julian calendar which itself was a reform of the earlier Roman calendar. (https://en.wikipedia.org/). The then Prime Minister of Malaysia who came to power in 1981 standardized the time and "declared that people in Peninsular Malaysia would adjust their clocks ahead by 30 minutes to match the time in use in East Malaysia (UTC+08:00) on 31 December 1981." What about over almanacs then? Agathiyar drafts a horoscope when I went for my Nadi reading that was opposed to what I had with me since day one. Hence the reason what was stated before coming to the Nadi did not materialize. How do I explain this?

Neale Donald Walsch wrote in "The Little Soul and the Sun", a children's parable adapted from "Conversations with God", Hampton Roads Publishing Company Ins, 1998,

"The Little Soul knew itself to be the Light but it wanted to experience itself as Light. And God said that if it wanted to know the Light it must also know the Darkness. For how else can one know Up without Down, Hot without Cold, Fast without Slow? Then the Little Soul understood that in getting to know Who It Really Is, it would have to know the opposite. And so the Little Soul embarked upon an adventure very much like that we all share on Earth."

I guess as God said to know the light one has to know the darkness, similarly, we must dwell in Maya or illusion first, see through the veil and only then come to know the truth. To know the truth one needs to travel far. To travel far he needs his body to stay fit. If the lessons gained from the numerous encounters and experiences walking the earth transform him, a walk within oneself shall bring on a transformation of an entirely different level. It is one of walking away from the gross to the subtle.

Just as many great civilizations ate the dust and were wiped out from the surface of the earth, just as many relationships only remain a mere memory in us, Agathiyar had me deactivate all the previous accounts on YouTube and the many websites where I uploaded and hosted pages of my indianheartbeat. He had me dissolve the very institution he created by bringing youths to my home that flowered and flourished to become his Vanam or garden. He had me accidentally erase my entire digital library of Nadi reading and Arul Valkku or conversations with the Siddhas. It reminds us of how the Buddhist monks purposely created Mandalas only to destroy them after they worship them. This was to instill in us the message that all is but an illusion and temporary and to seek that which was permanent. So what is permanent? Even my wish to bring fame to Agathiyar was shot down yesterday when he questioned me how can one add fame to someone who was devoid of malas or malam, pure in nature, and who was the very vibration itself?

If the Siddhas guided us on the macro level, their teachings catering to each sector and division of mankind according to the stages of their soul transformation, a greater feat was what they did on the micro level where their teachings were catered and customized to each individual soul. True enough, Agathiyar in asking me to tone down the words used in my draft of a recent post, that according to him would bring on fear and keep away potential aspirants from his path, added that he would deal with each in his own way according to the temperament and understanding of the soul. Hence he asked to rewrite the general statement that I made that the Siddhas tend to take the cane when dealing with the hardcore and disobedient.

Coming back to the vibration or unarvu that Tavayogi equates to life, the friend who was taught to recognize these vibrations in each chakra and progress to higher chakras through its visualization and Agathiyar telling us that he was the vibration that is realized in all spiritual undertakings including puja and charity, Agathiyar asks us to become aware of the vibration that rises within and follow it. Later he asked to dwell in the magnetic waves that arose. He asks to connect with the Prapanjam. It would then obey us. Work in tandem with us. Merging with it the vibrations arising in us will cleanse it.

TR Thulasiram in his "Arutpaavil Varna Tiraigalum Manigalum" published by Sakti Stores, Pondicheri in referring to Ramalinga Adigal, Sri Aurobindo, and Mother, writes that when one goes within, he shall have the darshan of his Atma or soul and know it and rests in it. In following either the vibration and going deep within or following the breath and ascending, he shall come across veils of ignorance at every stage. The vibration entering us or rising up (in Yoga) brings us to the state of Siddhi or accomplishment or Paripuranam or completeness. As we follow the vibration a veil of tattvas keeps coming up blocking our view of the other tattvas from us. The body veils the Pranan. The Pranan veils the Manam. The Manam in turn veils the Uyir. The Atma is of the nature of God. It stays hidden as the Paramatma in the Sahasrara and as the Jeevatma in Ajna. It keeps to itself and keeps one in ignorance. The divine presence, the soul's existence, and the consciousness of the soul though veiled in the darkness of ignorance, ever prevails and pervades. This is the black veil that both Ramalinga Adigal and Sri Aurobindo speak about. We need to cross, pierce and shred these veils. He says that by drawing the veils aside and entering one can meet his God in the temple within him. Once we reach the white veil that veils the Atma and enter we come face to face with our Atma. That is Atma Darisanam. Passing through these six veils he comes to meet his Atma. But this is only the start. Before we realize it another veil comes up as an obstacle. This is the seventh veil. It is a mix of all colors. After we traverse the sixth and arrive at the seventh the internal and external states are revealed. We need to purify and change these tattvas to shine. After purifying and transforming them the Uyir reaches the abode of the Atma that is Agni Peedham, enters, and merges with the Atma. Reaching soul realization the Gnanaperuvili shows itself. Ramalinga Adigal too receives Atma Kaatchi or soul realization or Atma Darisanam. This too dissolves before he steps into the Gnanaperuveli. Hence in purifying the states of the tattvas and states of vibrations and step by step transforming its gross state to that of light and divine vibration a transformation takes place. Only then can we cross this state and move into the Gnanaperuveli. This is true evolution.

Agathiyar tells us that though we are kept in ignorance, that is a part of the play of the divine or divine lila, and one of its attributes is to veil, besides the other four that of creation, sustenance, destroying, and showering its grace, the Atma comes to the fore depending on our actions and direction. Steeped in ignorance the guru's touch is needed to bring an awareness of the presence of the Atma in us. It steps out of its ignorance and takes the hand of the guru. As the awareness of the Atma grows in us, and it gains soul power or Atma Balam the resulting vibration reaches the state that Agathiyar is in. And so Agathiyar is indeed the vibration that is spoken of. Agathiyar says that, once the body separates back into the respective tattvas, the Uyir or breath merges in the Atma and reaches Agathiyar as the Jothi. Hence the reason we are asked to use our breath to fan the Atma or Jothi within.

P.Karthigayan in his translation of selected verses from Supramaniar Gnaanam 200, writes that Kumaran was a warrior turned saint who went by the name Supramaniar after the war. He joined Siva's Nandhi monastery and learned to drop his ego and pride; observed severe penances or tapas; mastered his senses; picked up yoga. Subsequently, he mastered his breath and attained the highest state of omniscient. He went through the painful process of transformation of his body into that of "air like", a death-defying, life-prolonging, and ever-youthful feat after consuming the ambrosia, attained through the science of the Siddhas, following which he went into the state of mounam and thus came to be addressed as Muruga. Muruga in turn taught Siva this secret and was henceforth called Swami Naathan. Siva too attained a luminous body.

Verses from Supramaniar Gnaanam 200

A translation of a couple of verses from Supramaniar Gnaanam 200 is given with whatever limited knowledge and experience I have.

(If the journey within starts with the swirling of the Suzhimunai it ends in the Karumunai.) I was tied forever with the Peroli or Light that knew no bounds and boundaries."

"I stood as all of creation. The Manam stood in stillness. The Moon and Sun in unison. Taking the peacock that is the breath I stood where there was neither inhalation nor exhalation. Hence I came to be known as Murugan."

To physically go from temple to temple combating the many tests that are placed in our path and taking in the ambiance and beauty of these deities is a way to salvation. To believers, these idols come alive. To visualize a deity and meditate on him in the comfort of our home is another way. The deity then moves within. Yet another would be to take on chanting or meditating on a mantra and moving within slowly. All the mantras create sound waves that are known to move and rearrange the waves according to our wishes and desires. Many times Lord Murugan, and Agathiyar have asked us to place a glass of water and chant the Maha Mantra and drink the purified and energized water. Sound is known to move water. Curses pronounced are believed to change one's life bringing suffering that goes beyond several births. Another way would be to visualize the chakras and their colors and syllable and walk within. The Siddhas though suggest taking the breath as a vehicle and moving within. If all the previous ways were a method or means created by man and our forefathers to bridge both worlds, the Siddhas knowing that these too are impermanent ask us to use the breath that has been with us since day one. It never fails us until the count is exhausted. In telling us to achieve the state spoken by the Siddhas, they remind us to do it before we attain the age of 60. I guess the breath given to us and that sustains us shall exhaust itself after that or accordingly to the extent of our activities whichever applies. By slowing down we might add a few years to the count. With the aid of Vaasi Yoga (Pranayama) and Asanas one might manage to add to this count and hence extend his life span and live longer. But most of us drop short of our target. We never make it to the finish line. That is the price we pay for chasing after material advancement, courting development, and modern-day technologies that have "enhanced" our lives at the cost of losing out on our spiritual ventures. If many welcome this intrusion, Yogi Ramsuratkumar has mentioned that it is tough to achieve the intended progress in this age of multiple waves trespassing and surrounding us. Even Agathiyar told me I have to pay the price of living in the suburbs of the city when I complained that it was nonconducive for going within. Then he tells me even if I were to escape into the jungles I shall face problems too in other forms. But they still insist that we place effort to go within mounting on and riding the Vel or elephant or horse or peacock that is the vaasi or breath.

The Siddhas went beyond race, language, religion, and form. They only saw the soul that dwells within this body of matter. They always addressed this soul. Their concern was for this soul to develop and advance further or rather see through the veil and have us drop everything returning the soul to its pristine nature of purity and vibration. Their intention was to help this Jiva(n) Atma to merge with the Para(m) Atma from whence it came hence leading it and bringing it back to its home or origin. In the event one fails to achieve this during this birth, his soul leaves the body to live in "other parallel worlds" momentarily before making another attempt. This and here is the only place that we can place a concerted effort and attempt at achieving this transformation, as a physical body is required to house the soul and strengthen the soul to gain Atma Balam. Hence the reason for engaging in tapas, charity, spiritual learning, performing rituals, etc. Thus the reason even the Gods take Avatars and Siddhas take birth as our kind. Ramalinga Adigal went a step further to provide a venue the Satya Gnana Sabai for all the devas to come down to learn but somehow his intention did not materialize for reasons only known to the divine. It is said that many souls are waiting in line to be given a chance and an opportunity to attempt to break this cycle of birth and death. Passing through as a human he takes up the task, mission, and target of attaining this state of no return. Otherwise, he hovers and lingers beyond sight yearning to be given another chance at it. We have been given a chance, let us do it as we have already come this far in having our souls evolved to the state of attaining a human birth and body.
