SEEING RESULTS 1

Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati had asked sadhakas to maintain a spiritual diary. And so when I went on my maiden pilgrimage to India, I took notes and later posted my journey on my website indianheartbeat. Since then I had kept an account of things of interest that took place while tracking this path. As memory fails us, these accounts that have graced the pages of this blog have been a tool to jolt my memory to the events of days past.

The Siddha path is a practical path, one of observation and learning lessons from the numerous experiences that we gather as we live life adhering to the teachings and findings of the Siddhas. You can only safely claim that you are on the path if you take up and adopt practices that the Siddhas themselves did. Otherwise, it would merely be the worship of the Siddhas like the rest of the deities.

The idea here is to start with their worship and become one of them. By their grace one day we shall be honored the stature of a Siddha too having lived a life of a Siddha. Agathiyar laments that man has not been keeping with the ways of the Siddhas or adopting the Siddhar Vazhkai Neri Muraigal. His wish is for all to become Siddhas. Ramalinga Adigal in several of his songs lays claim to having become a Siddha.

By bringing us to him he provided for a Nadi reading, explaining the reason we were born. This birth is a result of past karma, he announced. To set things right here and now he sets us on carrying out agamas or rituals and charity. For many these acts of agamas and charities ends here, having fulfilled the directives mentioned in the Nadi. They wait for some good or change to happen. But we chose to continue the agamas and charity beyond these remedies and made it a part of our living. As we are creating fresh new karma daily knowingly and unknowingly, we took to offset the effects of our actions by continuing these puja, rituals, and charity.

When we were ready we were introduced to the concept of gurus or godmen, apostles, messengers of God. The guru came along to initiate numerous other practices. Agathiyar, Supramania Swami and Tavayogi added on certain rituals to the existing, including idol worship, performing libation or abhisegam to it and homa or lighting the sacred sacrificial fire. Besides gaining personal satisfaction in conducting these pujas, these activities served to contribute towards the wellness of the prapanjam.

The gurus took us on an adventure each varied and mysterious. From Supramania Swami we learned intense Bhakti or devotion to the guru; we saw one-pointedness and living in the present moment even while observing rituals, and we saw love in all its magnitude. From Tavayogi we learned about the Siddhas; traveled to their abodes; made the acts of puja and charity as life-long ventures, acquainting them to the breath that keeps us alive; learned to face adversaries, to our surprise, in the spiritual path hence making us stronger. From Agathiyar we would learn to live like him. He has shared with us his knowledge and practices etc with the hope that we too shall become a Siddha one day. He, in turn, made us share, besides food, this knowledge, and practices with others, for its only in sharing that we grow. Agathiyar came as a role model to shape and mold us. Whether we succeed in emulating him is to be seen and endorsed by him.

The songs of praise of the Siddhas that we took up and recited and sang today bring meaning in our lives as we are beginning to see their references shape our lives too. We can connect with them seeing similar results take place.

KRIYA YOGA

Master Gowri R Varadhan originally from Salem, India was introduced to us at Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) by Sri Balachander when he was in Malaysia for a working stint. Master Gowri used to speak at satsangs organized by Sri Balachander for the local chapter of Babaji's Kriya Yoga. When we invited Master Gowri to teach yoga to members of AVM, he accepted readily and hence started a beautiful relationship between a master and his disciples. He patiently conducted numerous classes for us. Master Gowri is an excellent teacher of Kriya Yoga, having studied under Jan Durga Ahlund, wife of Marshall Govindan. Master Gowri was initiated as an Acharya during an induction ceremony on Sunday, March 6 in Bangalore, conducted by Acharya Satyananda and was conferred the name Acharya Gurudasan (servant of the Guru) by Babaji during the ceremony.

Thanks to Acharya Gurudasan's ever willingness to spread the knowledge he had on a supreme form of Yoga given by the Siddhas over the ages, members of AVM have been blessed to acquire this knowledge too. While running us through these classes, he shared the profound experiences that his guru Durga Ahlund attained while practicing these postures. Durga Ahlund writes in her blog, that when she was introduced to this practice, she found them extremely energizing opening her up to further deep and powerful devotion.
The Tamil Siddhas have told us that “the human body is the mystic center, the sacred passage to the ultimate reality and that liberation is available only within it.” To meditate on the Self, to worship the Self, begins the practice of Yoga. When I was first introduced to the 18 asana series of Babaji s Kriya Yoga, I found them to be enormously energizing. As I began to work with them daily, I realized how they increased my physical health and reduced body fat, strengthened the nervous system, brought about more and more equanimity and mental clarity. But, the benefits did not stop with that – they continued to widen and strengthened my inner sense of strength, joy, fortitude, resilience and persistence and opened me to deep and powerful devotion. I feel that it is the 18 posture series alone, if done as a ritual of worship in about two hours, which takes me into higher realms of consciousness. In addition I feel the practice strengthens the very cells of my physical body. I come out of the practice feeling renewed, joyful and younger!
As we have been asked to come to Yoga, we append below excerpts from Acharya Gurudasan's introduction to this science posted at https://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.com/2016/08/yoga-with-acharya-gurudasan.html to refresh ourselves on this practice.
The word Yoga comes from Sanskrit root ‘yog’ meaning to unite. To cut the long story short, we can consider that the term Yoga may refer to any practice that helps us to unite the mind, body and soul (atman). And it goes without saying that for this union to happen, the body-mind personality (ahamkara also known as ego) must be completely subdued. Here, the word ‘ego’ should not be read with the traditional meaning of a person’s self-worth, self-esteem or self-importance. Rather, the very identification of a person with his/her mind and body. Paramahamsa Yogananda, the author of Autobiography of a Yogi, defines ego as the delusion of identifying oneself with the mind and body.
So, essentially, all the different forms of yoga available must, by definition, help one to come out of such delusion to realize the divinity within. When this mistaken identity with the mind-body personality ends, one will realize that along with that ends all suffering and the person remains in a truly blissful state of joy.
Babaji’s Kriya Yoga (BKY)
Babaji’s Kriya Yoga is a special form of Raja Yoga. It also includes aspects of other forms of yoga such as devotion as in Bhakti, the discipline of action as in Karma Yoga and focuses on being with the Self/pure awareness as in Gnana. It is a scientific art of perfect God-Truth union and self-realization. It is an ancient form of practice preached to Arjuna by Lord Krishna and was lost over time. In the late 19th century, Mahavatar Babaji revived it as a synthesis of Patanjali`s yoga sutras and the practice of Kundalini yoga by the yoga Siddhars. Thus, he cleverly combined both the aspects of consciousness (Shiva) as in Patanjali`s Sutras and that of energy (Shakti) as in the practice of Siddhas.
The word `Kriya` comes from the root word ‘kri’ meaning action. In this context, ‘Kriya’ refers to action with awareness. It is emphasized that all the practices in Babaji’s Kriya Yoga are performed with utmost awareness. The sadhana of BKY is a collection of 144 exercises and spiritual practices for Self realization and transformation in all of our five bodies or Koshas or the 5 sheaths or bodies of our existence namely: physical, vital, mental, intellectual and spiritual. Hence Kriya Yoga is a 5 phased integral approach to attain God-realization. Each of them addresses one or more of the koshas.
Kriya Hatha Yoga: includes asanas, bandhas, and mudras, psycho-physical gestures, all of which bring about greater health, peace and the awakening of the nadis or the energy channels, the chakras. Babaji has selected a particularly effective series of 18 postures, which are taught in stages and in pairs. The first objective of Kriya Hatha Yoga is deeply physical and mental relaxation. The variety of asana grants flexibility, lightness and buoyancy in the body relieving us of many disorders. The practice of the 18 asana series awakens the energy centers along the spine and kundalini, our potential power and consciousness.
Kriya Kundalini Pranayama: is a powerful breathing technique to awaken one’s potential power and consciousness and to circulate it through the seven principal chakras between the base of the spine and the crown of the head. It deals more directly with the subtler vital parts of the nervous system. Ultimately these pranayama will awaken the sushumna and direct kundalini upward through it.
Kriya Dhyana Yoga: is a progressive series of meditation techniques to learn the scientific art of mastering the mind - to cleanse the subconscious, to develop concentration, mental clarity and vision, to awaken the intellectual, intuitive and creative faculties, and to bring about the breathless state of communion with God, "Samadhi" and Self-Realization. It aims to bring the truth realized in our inner consciousness into our waking consciousness and become effective there. The level of our consciousness determines the nature and quality of the life we live. So, rather than trying to stop thoughts and drop into a void, our meditations focus on dynamic methods of strengthening the power of the mind, the power of visualization and stimulate a ready flow of intuition and inspiration, which can be used in our life.
Kriya Mantra Yoga: The word Mantra comes from ‘man’ + ‘tra’, meaning to protect the mind. The silent mental repetition of subtle sounds becomes a substitute for the "I" - centered mental chatter and facilitates the accumulation of great amounts of energy. The mantra also cleanses habitual subconscious tendencies. These are powerful seed syllables to awaken the intuition, the intellect and the chakras. They mantras also serve as a direct means of establishing communication with higher beings such as Babaji and the 18 Siddhas.
Kriya Bhakti Yoga: the cultivation of the soul’s aspiration for the Divine. It includes devotional activities and service to awaken unconditional love and spiritual bliss; it includes chanting and singing, ceremonies, pilgrimages, and worship. Gradually, all of one's activities become soaked with sweetness, as the "Beloved" is perceived in all.
Babaji's Kriya Yoga is a spiritual tradition, wherein one “wakes up” from “dreaming with one’s eyes open.”. Babaji's Kriya Yoga is a path of Self-realization which is comprehensive, as it integrates all of the dimensions of our life. It is a path of self discipline which enables one to live in the world with open-hearted compassion.
This clearly shows that Yoga is much more than mere stretching exercises done in a hot room with tight clothes. Its purpose is to ultimately drive the practitioner towards the ultimate goal of Self-Realization.
Acharya Gurudasan has since then returned to Bangalore but remains in touch guiding us and answering our doubts and queries through our Whatsapp group Gnanakottam.

BREATHLESS

As we embark on a series on Yoga to bring a better understanding of its concept, practice and acclaimed benefits, working on watching the breath that would eventually subdue the mind, re-learning to breathe properly, taking long deep breaths, and "feeding" on the prana that accompanies the breath, we are made speechless and brought into a breathless state watching these artists perform on stage. Armed with a single breath they go on for minutes singing these lovable numbers to our astonishment. We learn that it all boils down to practice. So should we keep practicing be it in yoga, in performing rituals, in studies, in performing arts or in singing. We learn that practice strengthens the subconscious.

MOVING INTO HIGH GEAR

It was a very unique journey, somewhat unexpected. Sailing through life like all others, I took up worship continuing from my parents and from my childhood home, bringing it into my room as a bachelor, engaging in serious worship both at dawn and dusk. The tradition of visiting temples was continued too daily. Then it all came to a standstill adhering to the wishes of Lord Shiva in a dream. 13 years later in 2001, he comes to take me back into his fold, through an initiation into the Vasudeva mantra and worship of both Silent Guru Lord Dhakshanamurthy and the Navarathri Goddesses, mystically and mysteriously planned and arranged by Agathiyar without my knowledge and without divulging the reasons and the hand behind this divine scheme or play until many years later. The following year Agathiyar comes in the Nadi as the Moola Guru and shows me, two gurus, in physical form whom I come to meet in later in 2003 and 2005.

My home, that I named Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) taking after the name of the place where Tavayogi erected a shed and started preaching the Siddha way, came to be the venue for the worship of the Siddhas where many were sent over by Agathiyar to watch, participate, learn and start the rituals and worship in their own homes. We were actively engaged in Sariyai and Kriyai then.

The home was officially renamed by Lord Muruga as Agathiyar Tapovanam Malaysia (ATM) in anticipation of its role switching from a place of rituals to that of tavam or meditation. Sariyai, Kriyai, and Yogam continued to be its domain.

Later Agathiyar in anticipation of us venturing further into Gnanam, named it Gnanakottam. Agathiyar has asked to bring potential seekers to sit in meditation now preparing them to go within. Although he has brought us to reduce the frequency of performing rituals he has specifically asked never to stop holding the Annual Agathiyar Jayanthi Vizha or celebrations for him that fall on Thaipusam. Immediately after his recent Vizha on Thaipusam, he came to express his happiness in watching us carry out his Vizha. What surprised us most and brought extreme joy to us was when the various other establishments devoted to him and their devotees were celebrating his Vizha, he chose to be with us, spending some 2 1/2 hours with us before he told us he was required to go. Ramalinga Adigal too surprised us and elevated us to a state of bliss, by accompanying Agathiyar gracing our home to be part of the celebrations for Agathiyar, blessing the handful who had gathered in this small home, while devotees were gathered in large numbers at Vadalur on that day of Thaipusam to celebrate the day he merged with Arutperunjhoti.

During the last Sivarathri puja, Ramalinga Adigal came to guide and teach us to connect with the consciousness or Prapanjam. The following month in March of 2020 he came to pass us the good news that Agathiyar shall lead us to the Light. A few days later he came and surprised us by composing and singing a song that described the process where Arutperunjhoti comes within to draw aside the curtain or veil that keeps us separated, contrary to the notion that after having the veils drawn aside a darshan of the light is held.

As Agathiyar brought us to cover the terrain that stood between us and the divine, taking the tools of Sariyai, Kriyai, Yogam, and Gnanam externally, he was preparing and initiating an internal transformation that is parallel and undergoing simultaneously. If our actions and thoughts saw a drastic and obvious change, the inner transformations were more subtle in nature, only known to the aspirant and seeker. Dr. Geeta Anand explains the process from the context of the Siddhas in her http://agatthiyarjnanam.blogspot.com/

Gross or material body or Sthula deha is made up of five elements, five subtle qualities, five senses of knowledge, five senses of action, manas, chittam, buddhi, and ahamkara totaling twenty-four principles. This body is made up of seven types of dhatus or materials: rasa, raktha, maamsa, majjai, asthi or bones, seminal fluid or suklam and medas or fat.

It is the material body that binds a soul to a particular place, time and situation. It possesses the three faults or dosha namely vata (vali), pittha (azhal) and kapha (aiyam). It undergoes five types of modifications, aging, getting white hair, diminishing sight, disease, and death.

Such a body made up of the seven dhatus should be first turned into Yoga deha or sareera by lighting the fire of kundalini. Hata yoga strengthens the material body and removes the screen between the body and the mind. It removes the duality of body and mind. Tirumandiram recommends the eight components or aspects of ashtanga yoga namely yama, niyama, aasana, pranayama, dhaarana, dhyana and Samadhi to attain the Yoga deha as Deha siddhi.

When one attains the Yoga deha or Deha Siddhi, further yogic practices raise the kundalini shakti, which then pierces the six chakras granting numerous powers or Siddhis, bringing him a Siddha deha. When kundalini unfolds from its dormant state and ascends through the chakras it starts absorbing the element that each chakra represents. Thus, it absorbs the twenty-four principles into itself. When it reaches the Ajna chakra the yogin’s body becomes Siddha deha. The twenty-four principles do not affect the Siddha deha as it is not made of them. A yogi who has attained a Siddha deha is not controlled by time, space and external causes. He takes any form anywhere at any time. He does not depend on his senses for cognition.

Next comes the process of converting the Siddha deha that is made of the Siva Sakti principle, into Mantra deha or Pranava deha. Tantra Sastras say that Siva and Sakti are present in the sahasrara and Muladhara respectively and on the right and left part of the body. The apana vayu that flows through the Pingala nadi on the right side of the body is considered the flow of Siva. The prana vayu that flows through the ida on the left part of the body is Sakti. The letters A, U and M of the Pranava represent the Soorya, Chandra and Agni or Pingala, Ida and Sushumna nadi respectively.

When the aspirant practices breath regulation he changes the direction of the breath and makes it flow through the Sushumna instead of the Ida and Pingala thus bringing the left and the right part of the body into equilibrium or samarasa. This is called the union of Siva and Sakti. The sound, OM (when A, U, M combines) occurs within the yogi’s body and his Siddha deha becomes Pranava deha. A yogin who possesses the Pranava deha is a Jivan Mukta. They are souls who have attained liberation while still in the body form. Even when their senses are engaged with the external world their consciousness is constantly immersed in self-awareness enjoying the bliss. They are not affected by the “I-sense”. They remain as a witness. A Jivan muktha’s body is deathless. His gross body becomes effulgent Divya deha.

Divya deha or Gnana deha is a body made of space. Those with Divya deha have merged with the supreme space. He attains Para mukthi with that Divya deha. He goes beyond time and remains as an embodiment of Sivam. It is believed that Jivan mukthas are still remaining in this world.

The process of reaching the Divya deha from the Yoga deha or the Siddha deha is called laya. Laya is the process of merging of all the principles with each other and ultimately with Sivam. This is also called apancheekaranam or reverse manifestation. When kundalini goes beyond the Ajna, to the other chakras, the sense of duality ceases to exist. When it reaches the Sahasrara the yogin attains the Divya deha. He consumes the divine nectar that flows down. His body becomes deathless. This body is called the golden body or ‘ponnaar meni’. The kechari mudra helps the yogin consume the divine nectar. The yogi attains kaya siddhi.

The Siddha transforms his material body or Stula deha, composited of these 24 principles into a supreme vehicle that carries him towards liberation. The light of the divine comes within first, cleanses the vehicle and paves the way for the seeker to meet his creator, currently veiled from him, and merge with him. For the veil to drop we need to increase the intensity of the jhoti, says Ramalinga Adigal, constantly reminding us to chant the Maha Mantra Arutperunjhoti. He assures us that together with a constant prayer to the Guru Agathiyar, one shall have him come and deliver us, drawing the veil aside. Again Adigal tells us to stick with Agathiyar and his path. We took Tavam and Dhanam, or Prayers and Charity as Agathiyar and Avvai and many others after them have mentioned as two effective tools to earn the grace of Erai, traveling this far.

We learn from http://www.ramalinga.com, that Ramalinga Adigal had advocated compassion (paropakaram) and devotional meditation (satvicharam) as two effective tools to bring one to the illuminative way instantly, traversing the purgative way in a jiffy. Ramalinga Adigal now arms us with yet another tool, devotional meditation or ardent devotion to God. From external worship, he brings us to internal worship. What is the key to devotional meditation then? The key is having constant thoughts on God, begging for his Grace. Ramalinga Adigal shows us the way. In one of his songs, Ramalinga Adigal expresses that it is necessary to think incessantly on God until one melts in Divine Love. Then the crying happens unexpectedly and praises are sung to God. A smooth internal divine heat builds up within. When this universal love and this sacred heat is realized, both body and soul are prepared for the descent of the Grace in the shape of Light. Our devotion and love for God are reciprocated and returned when the divine having brought us to his fold, now stoops down and lifts us up to his state. From http://www.ramalinga.com, a detailed explanation is given on what happens during the stage of a union between God and man.
Then the Divinity descends and settles in disciple's Heart, who becomes entirely filled by Him. This points the disciple’s Heart as the End of the Path shown by Him. Captivated by the "Ardent Fire" of the Divine Essence, the disciple stops thinking, feeling, acting and even existing. He has become pure Love and Compassion, and this is what he spills on all the beings. When this happens, the material body constituted of impure elements is transformed into a “Body of Pure Light” that emits a golden brightness. Ramalinga affirms that, following the Divine Path of Truth and Purity, the most impure body will become a body pure and imperishable.
This is exactly what Tavayogi wrote when I asked him to autograph my copy of his book "Andamum Pindamum" - "Aandavan Uraigindra Edam Thangal Ullam, Athuve Payanathin Thodakkamum, Mudivum" when translated means, "Erai lives in your heart, from where the journey starts and ends too" - pointing to the disciple’s Heart as the Beginning and End of the Path shown by Him.

Coming to Sariyai with an identity we lose ourselves finally in Gnanam. If we had previously singled ourselves out in all things before coming to Gnanam, after entering it we realize the sacred connectedness of life. Just as a dream seems real when we are having it and remember it only as a memory, upon waking up, when the veil is drawn aside, we come to see that all things seem real only in the world of Maya, under the lenses of Maya. As Swami Vivekananda wrote in his "Raja Yoga - Conquering the Internal nature", Advaita Ashrama, Calcutta, 1998, the truth dawns on us, when man realizes "the material out of which the whole of these grades of beings are composed and that when one lump of clay that has come to be known, we know all the clay in the universe." There is no individuality nor identity, form, or name.

PREDICTIONS

I saw an English movie "Separated at Birth" recently. When the daughter says sorry to her mother for her actions, the mother replies "Stop saying sorry but instead change." It is a beautiful message. The word sorry doesn't carry any weight these days as people don't mean it. They tend to do the same thing or mistake over and over again. But when he or she truly regrets his/her action and decides to change, they become a new person, all things around them change, relationships change for the better, and they move on to new experiences in life. For a change to take place we need to put a halt to the things we are currently doing and venture anew. We replace the thought, practice or something else with one that is positive, good, etc repeating the action as in yoga or chanting some 21 times, where it then begins to register in our subconscious minds. Repetition and making a habit of good things registers a corresponding response and outcome in the subconscious. Similarly, we should nip it in the bud if it is going to be disastrous. Otherwise, it becomes a habit and then a character, having fully lodged into the subconscious. Once it becomes a habit it turns into our character. Then our character will stand out and advertise our arrival before we even open our mouth to address or greet others.

This is what I suppose we have been doing all these births, coming to earn experiences and learn a lesson or two but eventually failed in doing this, having the need to come back repeatedly. If the lesson is learned and done with, we shall move on otherwise we stagnate. I have stagnated too says Agathiyar, at Svadhistana. So he is here to help me see through the process, giving numerous instructions and once in a while a command if we refuse to budge. It is interesting to note the messages that come across through these divine masters.

The masters at https://www.lightagemasters.com/revolutionbylight.php tell us that,
Because we are entering the New Age or Light Age, the purity levels of our thinking and living have to be very high. Our old ways have to change. All the corrupt systems that we see around have to change. If they do not change, they collapse. It is this collapse that causes chaos and upheavals. Nature also initiates cleansing processes and causes destruction.
If I remember rightly the masters at https://www.lightagemasters.com/revolutionbylight.php predicted some time back that an asteroid would come close to the earth and cause the earth to stand still for three days. After three days it would rotate in the reverse direction, wiping all memory from its inhabitants. Then it would spin as usual bringing a new life experience in a new world of existence. Although "it was feared that these may cause disruption of communications and other systems and a lot of destruction" we were told that "the Rishis or Light Masters had asked us not to feel scared. Such events have occurred earlier and we have sailed through. We can easily prepare ourselves for this, and they help us. We are not alone." This prophecy did not take place in 2012, as did many other prophesies, predictions, and forecasts, anticipating disasters that would result in the world coming to an end, from the world's religions. It was said to be postponed to 2018 by the divine masters. Although it did not materialize then too, likely due to the compassion of these masters, this is an interesting phenomenon to take note of. There was a message carried clear and wide across the globe. The message here was that "We have to prepare ourselves at a different level, the Spiritual level."

The world has seen many catastrophes. Our ancestors might have been victims in those instances. https://timelines.ws/subjects/Disasters.HTML gives us a timeline of such occasions in history.
  • 65 million years before present (BP) an asteroid was said to have struck Earth and wiped out the dinosaurs, about 80% of the world’s plant species and all animals bigger than a cat, 55-60% of the plant-eating insects and created a worldwide firestorm as a result of high oxygen levels.
  • 3000 BC - 2800 BC a very large scale comet or meteorite that fell and upon impact created an undersea crater, about 30 km in diameter, in the southern Indian Oceans creating enormous megatsunamis. It is hypothesized that the 'great flood', is associated with this event.
This comprehensive list covers these tragedies till the present day.

Many years back I was passed a document titled SIDDHA AGASTHYA – FOREMOST OF THE SIDDHAS by Nadi Guru Ramesh where Dr. Mandayam Kumar of the Siddha Medical Research Institute, Bangalore says it was possible to find out details about Agathiyar during the course of literary research on the Siddha medical sciences in a Tamil manuscript titled PRAPANCHA KAANDAM, written on Nadi or palm leaves about 3,000 years ago. According to the Dr. the text that is attributed to Lord Murugan and dictated by Agathiyar to his student Pulastyar, runs into several volumes The text besides introducing Agathiyar and the Siddhas, sheds some light on the world and events at that period of time. Dr. Mandayam Kumar says Agathiyar could see impending calamities take place in the future during his meditation. As a result, he moved to the North Pole considering it to be a safe place. This period of his move to the Arctic was said to coincide with the end of the Dwapara Yuga placed at about 6580 BC. Just as he had seen of an impending calamity and had decided to move north, a tremendous explosion on the planet Mars sends a piece of debris towards the earth. This impact caused a great deluge on the earth. Significant portions of Kumari Kandam submerged into the Indian Ocean. Continental drift then resulted in the present-day arrangement of this region. After the great flood, Kailas was no more but instead, the Himalayan mountain range had emerged in north India. Amidst all these geographical changes, Agathiyar went seeking for a place that would not be affected by future calamities. He located a mountain range in south India. This is the present-day Courtalam. This spot is said to be the safest place and free from any future catastrophes.

Call it coming of the Siddha Era as Tavayogi and Mataji say, or the arrival of Lord Murugan as is believed to be at Ongarakudil or entering the New Age or Light Age as envisioned at Taponagara or call it by any other name elsewhere, or name it just plain cleansing, the message and reminder we are constantly getting is to bring a change for the better.

A friend from Delhi messaged me about his concern towards the animals in these times of uncertainties.
The feeding that was being done for dogs has now stopped except for the 2 to 3 dogs who come to the gate. Monkeys are going hungry and elsewhere cows. The opportunity of carrying out this feeding nowadays is not coming my way in spite of other people doing so. We need to have this opportunity to feed the animals. The COVID 19 scare has resulted in many deaths, pain, suffering and is still continuing. We can express our feelings but what about those who cannot. What about the environment which we continue to pollute, be it the rivers, sea or the air we breathe? What type of pain would have the plant kingdom gone through when thousands of trees were cut to lay the way for buildings?  How would have the animals felt when they were caught, trapped, tied up and then slaughtered to satiate the taste buds? How would a hungry man bearing the hunger cramps in his stomach feel, not to get food for days and have to bear the agony of seeing people spend lavishly on buying food and then wasting it. The pain inflicted by mankind has now come back to be distributed among us. Who gets what share of the pie and who doesn't .. will unfold.
Somebody made the following observation and penned a beautiful piece, that has been making its rounds on social media.

We fell asleep in one world and woke up in another.

After mentioning a few cities and holy places that have lost its glamour and are void of people, he continues,

Hugs & kisses suddenly become weapons,
and not visiting parents & friends becomes an act of love.
Suddenly you realize that power, beauty & money are worthless,
and can't get you the oxygen you're fighting for.

The world continues its life and it is beautiful.
It only puts humans in cages.
I think it's sending us a message: "You are not necessary. The air, earth, water, and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guests. Not my masters."

In a recent documentary on the ecosystem, we are told the exact thing, that nature can survive without man but man cannot survive without nature!

In a strongly worded message, we are told to wake up at https://factoryfarmcollective.ca/2020/03/16/the-coronavirus-is-humanitys-final-warning-we-need-to-treat-animals-better/

At https://www.thesundaily.my/style-life/all-the-buzz/american-author-predicted-outbreak-of-coronavirus-in-2008-FD2014645 we are surprised to learn that author Sylvia Browne had predicted the current pandemic in her book "End of Days: Predictions and Prophecies about the End of the World", which was co-written with Lindsay Harrison.
"In around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and the bronchial tubes and resisting all known treatments," reads a passage from the book. “Almost more baffling than the illness itself will be the fact that it will suddenly vanish as quickly as it arrived, attack again ten years later, and then disappear completely.”
Man has to change his ways. Man has to transform into a better being, a divine spiritual and soulful being. Could this be a wake-up call? The masters at https://www.lightagemasters.com/revolutionbylight.php continue their call for man to arise from his sleep promising of a better world, courtesy of the divine masters.
Smooth transition into the Light Age is possible without any chaos and destruction if we transform spiritually, cleanse the systems of corruption and live a value system. When the present corrupt systems collapse, there are so many possibilities we are told that the divine can bring forth. They are capable of replacing them with higher systems immediately so that we survive and live in a world of unbelievable possibilities. The Rishis who are aware of Higher Intelligences, Higher systems, and Higher Life and have witnessed similar transitions in earlier cycles can activate our faculties to communicate telepathically when the communication systems collapse; help us to live on Prana, the vital energy from Sun, when food may not be available. There are endless ways of higher living in the Light Age."
The Tamil movie Tiruvilaiyadal portrays a scene where Lord Shiva in disguise sings the verse that if he were to stop his dance, all things shall come to a halt. When he moves the universe moves with him. His dance might be a reminder of the nature of prana; or that all this was a dream; his lila; or maya. He initiates all these and ends it too.

It is quite alright and acceptable for predictions and prophecies to go wrong. Predictions are not written in stone. Many of Agathiyar's too haven't seen the light of the day or materialized contrary to what was said. When the late Dr. Krishnan's predictions came true for others, it never worked in my favor although he was the best in the field then, mastering medical astrology too, besides the conventional study of it and had the liberty of consulting his physical guru in India and Agathiyar in the Nadi. I asked him casually not implicating me if there were chances that his predictions might not take place. "Yes", he replied and told me if I had been cursed. When I asked him if one could know if he was cursed through reading the horoscope, he replied "No" but the Nadi of the Siddhas can reveal. This conversation took place in 1998 two years after I came to know him and had my horoscope drawn up and seen its results. In 2002 as I sat before Agathiyar to have my very first Nadi reading, giving my thumbprint to the Nadi reader Senthilkumar and jointly going through bundles of Nadi or dried treated palm leaves on which each individual's story was written by the Siddhas in the past, I recognized one that carried facts about me that were personal and pertinent to me. After I verified that the subject in context was me and that Nadi referred to me, the reader pulled it out from the stack of leaves to give me a full reading.

After the initial prayer to Lord Vinayaga, Agathiyar describes the nature of my thumbprint, stated the sign of the zodiac rising at birth or Ascendant or Lagna, Rasi, and my planetary positions precise to the very instant of my birth that day. What came as a surprise was that Agathiyar mentioned my Lagna as Tula. While Dr. Krishnan determined it as Kadagam, cross-referring with an old horoscope drawn up by the late AM Turaisamy in 1983, the astrologer wrote my (Utaya) Lagna as Kadagam too but had noted the Lagna as Tula. Although coinciding with Agathiyar's calculation the later's predictions did not reflect what took place too.

I went back to the dear Dr. and highlighted the matter. The Dr. worked backward based on the Lagna Agathiyar mentioned. We were surprised to find out that my time of birth would then be after sunrise when the sun was way up in the sky, rather then what was mentioned by my mother and recorded as in the early hours of dawn. As the position of the planets too had changed as a result of the change in Lagna, it was obvious now why the events predicted based on the time of my birth according to my official records did not materialize. When I asked Dr. Krishnan which horoscope should I follow henceforth, he told me to follow Agathiyar. But Agathiyar did agree with the Dr. that I had earned the curse of many whose lives I had messed up in the past births.

After 10 years I came to learn why there was a discrepancy in my Lagna, from a revelation by Agathiyar in the blog Siththan Arul posting of 31 May 2012.
If the planets Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter, and Mars are known to retrograde Agathiyar surprises us saying that the Lagna or time of birth too could do so in some cases. If this happens the predictions do not take place. As the Lagna had retrograded, I understood the reason for all the past predictions not to have taken place. But something that the dear Dr predicted, that I shall meet my guru in 2001, did indeed take place amidst the failure of the other general predictions. While all else did not materialize, I met my guru Agathiyar as the Dr said I would through my nephew in 2001 who prepared me for the meeting with my guru in the physical form. Agathiyar reiterated in the Nadi reading of 2002, that I shall meet my guru in the physical form. I finally I came to my guru Supramania Swami in 2003, followed with Tavayogi in 2005. This was the only prediction that came true. How mysterious!

INTRODUCTION TO YOGA 1

As the COVID-19 pandemic takes on its toll on nations and its people, the need to go back to the basics of healthy living is our priority these days. Cleanliness takes top priority. Strengthening the immune system, restoring the respiratory system, are other areas that need our attention. This advice came from Agathiyar sometime back. Prior to that, he had expressed his disappointment that very few these days adopt the Siddhar Neri Vazhgai Murai or way of the Siddhas in their daily lives and for a start went on to teach us the proper way to take a bath. We have forgotten the basics I suppose so that the Maha Muni has to come to remind us. Agathiyar spoke about good hygiene and health, giving general tips on hygiene and several techniques in Yoga to adopt too.  But we were never forewarned of the danger that lurked around the corner then. We have come to understand the message underlying his advise today as we face the reality that this potentially dangerous virus can wreak havoc on nations and its people, crippling its economies and killing innocents alike. It has brought almost all things to a halt. The one outstanding known fact in the attack of this virus is that it creates difficulty in breathing.
In COVID-19 cases, it is the lungs which come under attack, with patients struggling to get enough oxygen, often deteriorating very quickly as a result. This deterioration "can happen very quickly between the eighth and tenth day of the illness, often in the space of just a few hours," Dr. Albrice Levrat, head of intensive care in the eastern French city of nnecy, explained to Le Point weekly.
How is the patient aided then?
In the first instance, the patient is given oxygen through tubes to the nose, progressing to a pressurised full face mask. If that does not work, then medical staff with turn to mechanical ventilation, which requires the patient to be sedated heavily. A tube is then inserted through the trachea to carry oxygen directly into the lungs as a machine effectively takes over the patient's breathing.
Intubation is a major medical procedure which can last for several weeks, requiring an entire medical team to monitor and adjust as required until the patient can breath on their own again unaided. (Source: https://malaysia.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-intensive-care-involved-184725043.html)
The fear of not being able to breath makes us appreciate the breath even more while we can. The need has arisen for us to take to Yoga in lieu of these dangers. The green light to continue Yoga, selective techniques this time, came through Agathiyar in September of last year. My Yoga practice was halted by Agathiyar, taking into account the extreme pain in my lower back that he explained was a result of subtle energies arising within the chakras, with all the years' practice. Just as all the forms of reading and worship to the Gods came to a halt after Lord Shiva spoke in a dream in 1988, and after a period of hibernation, for some 13 years, I was drawn by mysterious circumstances to make a comeback to it in 2001 that took on a frenzy mode till I was made to observe a cooling down period again.

I started reading books on Yoga and ventured to put into practice the asanas and pranayama, since the eighties. This went on simultaneously with the frantic and feverish worship of the Gods and Goddesses in the Hindy pantheon both at dawn and dusk in my bachelor room followed by daily visits to the temple. My practice then was basically based on the knowledge of Yoga accumulated from self-study, research and lots of reading. But all these were done without a physical guru initiating, pointing the way, tutoring and guiding me. Today we have come to understand the need for a proper initiation into all things be it academic or spiritual. That guru came through the Nadi in 2002. Agathiyar came as the guru, inviting me to the worship of the Siddhas. I took it up. Immediately after the Nadi reading, I was shown the way of worship of the Siddhas by the Nadi Guru who had read the contents of my Nadi. After I took up their worship, Agathiyar came to guide me further in the numerous Nadi readings I had. For a start, he led me on Nadi Suddhi and Dega Suddhi. In 2005 Agathiyar sent Tavayogi to officially initiate me on his mantra and start me literally walking the path of the Siddhas, by taking me on an adventure into the realm of the Siddhas, right here running parallel to ours. In 2008 Tavayogi officially teaches us Asanas and Pranayama that I put into practice diligently. In May of 2008, Patanjali comes in the Nadi to spell out more details on Yoga going into the details and intricacies of taking the right sattvic diet to fully realize the benefits of Yoga. Then Acharya Gurudasan or Master Gowri from Bangalore, who we lovingly address, during his working stint in Malaysia was kind enough to set aside his personal time and space to teach us Kriya Yoga.

Sending great gurus and upagurus and masters along, Agathiyar introduced us to Sariyai, Kriyai, and Yogam. He asks that Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) that observed Sariyai and Kriyai taking worship, rituals, and charity as tools to progress on the path, move to Yogam and Gnanam, giving us a new identity too, Gnanakottam. Agathiyar after taking us by the hand through various stages of external approaches to bring on internal awareness, giving us the tools Sariyai and Kriya, has now brought us to go within and become aware of the subtle that works within. Today he has asked that we begin our adventure going into the self to attain Gnanam the last stage on this path. But the tool to Gnanam is Yogam. Taking on Yogam we shall slowly slip into Gnanam. He asks that we bring seekers now to go within, just as we brought them to carry out the external worship of the Siddhas in the past. Yoga practiced at any age or under any circumstances is said to be transformative in many ways. We understood this since Agathiyar had asked my 82-year-old father-in-law to do the Surya Namaskar asanas recently.

Patanjali authored the "Yoga Sutras", a comprehensive study of the human psyche, some 2,000 years ago. If Patanjali is the father of Yoga, BKS Iyenger is considered the world's greatest teacher of yoga. Let us watch what he has to say, considering we have quoted him extensively in numerous posts in this blog.

It is interesting to note the timely reminders that we receive or perceive in these times of a much-awaited and needed deliverance from a common enemy, the Coronavirus. Rajesh Sarma posted a comment, an excerpt I suppose from a book by Iyengar, below this video some 7 months ago even before the virus came to be known to all.
Iyengar's home town, Bellur, was in the grip of the influenza pandemic at the time of his birth, and an attack of that disease left the young boy sickly and weak for many years. Throughout his childhood, he struggled with malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, and general malnutrition. "My arms were thin, my legs were spindly, and my stomach protruded in an ungainly manner," he wrote. "My head used to hang down, and I had to lift it with great effort." This should help people understand his achievements better.
BKS Iyengar had reversed his fate with sheer determination and effort. Today he stands as a godly and fatherly figure to all who pursue Yoga. Maybe it was Patanjali incarnated as him to come again to teach this science that keeps us alive.

Iyengar says that sage Patanjali listed ways to attain Yoga or union, beginning with the control and mastery of external issues and finally brings one within.  The eight aspects or limbs of Yoga of which the first five namely,

Yama - restraints or ethics of behavior
Niyama - observances
Āsana - physical postures
Prāṇāyāma - control of the prana (breath)
Pratyahara - withdrawal of the senses

are known as a forward journey from the body towards the soul, says Iyengar. Then Patanjali takes us on a reverse path, or a return journey now moving inwards, from the body towards the soul, that is termed as the true renunciation, contrary to the common belief and understanding that of renouncing the world, says Iyengar. Knowing the seed of consciousness and having realized it Patanjali shows the way to,

Dhāraṇa - concentration
Dhyāna - meditation
Samādhi - absorption

Patanjali shows the way to how one can reach the abode of the soul forever so that all the actions he performs in the world, will not reflect any reaction, hence severing the fine thread of birth and rebirth.

WHO CAN COMPREHEND ALL THAT HAPPENS?

Faced with obstacles, problems, troubles, sufferings, pain, and misery, we turn to God for his Grace to remove the obstacles and clear the path; to end the troubles, sufferings, pain, and misery. Praise and worship the Siddhas were the call of the day to those who came seeking a solution to their life's problems, sufferings, misery, disease, and illness. This was the mantra of Tavayogi, Rengaraja Desigar, and many other saints on the Siddha path. From praying for selfish needs they were brought to think about the welfare of the family, friends and the guy next door. The seekers were brought to pray for others too, by way of joint prayers or Kutu Pratanai in small groups, expanding from thinking about the self to include others. Soon their prayer encompassed all of creation. They were told to pray for the well being of the Prapanjam or universe that included them too. Places of worship were set up for people to come together and congregate in a single prayer and worship and praise of the divine. A personal prayer at the altar in the prayer room of an individual grew to include the thought of another in group prayers and evolved further to coming together in prayer to all of creation in temples. Soon his heart and soul opened up to the sufferings of others and he ventures to bring relief to others too by providing aid, help, food and doing other acts of charity. He leaves the world a changed man, having contributed and done his small part to society and mankind. In the next birth, he is prepared to take on bigger challenges and responsibilities, coming with missions and specific tasks to uplift the souls of others too besides strengthening his soul. Gaining soul power he lends a hand in healing others, guiding them and leading them to the house of God. This is the true evolution of man. This process has been clearly listed by Agathiyar in the 5 tenets of mankind and his purpose in coming at the Tamil Sangam.

Besides taking the tool of prayers, we take on and make all the efforts to alleviate or come out of the predicament we are in. When disaster, sickness, war, etc strikes we take the tool of prayer and the hand of the divine to ask for forgiveness and his grace. If in the Puranas we were told of the existence of Asuras and the troubles and sufferings they brought on both the rishis and the commoner alike; history tells us that large numbers of humans were wiped out by cruel men taking the helm, for various reasons including killing those who were opposed to them or those who were learned or simply went about a bout of ethnic cleansing. Then there were nations that went to war. The site https://www.britannica.com/topic/list-of-wars-2031197 gives a comprehensive list of wars fought for various reasons beginning from 1300 till the present millennium. These wars catapulted the outbreak of infectious diseases as Máire A Connolly, David L Heymann wrote in https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/lancet/PIIS0140-6736(02)11807-1.pdf

The danger has taken a new face at this age. We are now currently faced with a terror that has gone beyond a single locality, and gone beyond borders, to encompass the whole world. The danger is intensified further as it is an invisible enemy that we are faced with. The Coronavirus or COVID-19 has taken us by surprise and taken a toll, taking lives, crippling businesses and livelihood, killing both individuals and the economy of nations. Never has mankind seen a pandemic of this proportion.

https://academic.oup.com/ije/article/32/5/684/665695  we learn about the emergence of diseases throughout history.
Evidence of smallpox is said to have been found in 3000-year-old Egyptian mummies. Hippocrates wrote about the spread of disease by means of airs, water, and places, and made an association between climate, diet, and living conditions. Investigators described miasmas or an unpleasant or unhealthy smell or vapor as the source of infections. Fracastoro discussed the germ theory in the 1500s and three routes of contagion were proposed - direct contact, fomites or objects or materials which are likely to carry infection and contagion from a distance (airborne). Epidemics of leprosy, plague, syphilis, smallpox, cholera, yellow fever, typhoid fever, and other infectious diseases were the norm.
Both identification of the diseases and the relevant measures were recommended and put into place to counter these outbreaks came into being soon.
The development of the microscope by Leeuwenhoek in the 1600s allowed scientists to visualize micro-organisms for the first time. The 1800s brought knowledge of the cultivation and identification of micro-organisms. Vaccines were developed and used which introduced specific methods to our storehouse of measures for control and prevention. Pasteurization was another important contribution to disease control. An appreciation of the environment and its relationship to infectious diseases resulted in implementation of broad control measures such as community sanitation, personal hygiene, and public health education. The importance of nutrition was appreciated for its impact on infectious diseases.
The 20th century brought chemotherapy and antibiotics into our infectious disease armamentarium. Greater dependency upon vaccination programmes and health education became important allies in our efforts at reducing the occurrence of infectious disease.
As we are told that "But we are now aware that emerging and re-emerging infections have become a significant worldwide problem", to add to this we are now facing a virus and danger like never before. The effects this pandemic that raised its hood in December of last year and spread like wildfire, if not immediate, within months to reach all corners of the world,  has had on us has caused us much concern. As countries are seen desperately trying to battle, this outbreak, bringing all available resources and aid together and seeing cooperation extended among nations in fighting a common enemy, trying to contain it and flatten the curve, the economies are on the verge of going down, plunging nations throughout the world into another bout of recession.

We grieve together with the families of those who became victims, within days, or almost instantaneously, of being merely in close proximity with those who carried the virus. We might be next in line if we are not careful and don't take the necessary measures to keep it at bay. We salute the front-liners who have been giving their best, including many of whom are family, relatives, and friends of ours. We pray for the well being of these front-liners who give their time and life to save others.

We do not know how long people can have their spirits up looking towards miracle cures and an end to the pandemic when they can get back to life as usual. Besides bringing a lockdown on our movements, bringing a halt to all our daily chores outside the home and limiting our activities in public, it has brought places of worship, the very institutions that keep over spirits up, to close its doors to the public too. We are now left to conduct prayers both for the family and the universe, in the safety of our own homes. It is during these moments that we realized that we are at an advantage as we are equipped with the knowledge of rituals and are prepared to rise to this occasion in prayers. From day one we never advocated the idea of coming together in prayer once a week at an establishment or venue and leave to mind our business till we meet again the following week as was the norm when I came to this path. In AVM we encouraged the seekers to come over, watch, participate, learn and carry out the prayers and rituals in their homes breaking their dependency on socializing. There were, of course, certain exceptions when we came together to carry out events on a bigger scale like the Annual Jayanthi celebrations and the feeding programs. Those who came, saw and conquered the knowledge, skill, wisdom of these pujas and went on to carry it out in their homes with their families and friends. Today these few sit before Agathiyar, in prayer, in their own homes, seeking for his guidance, grace, and quick recovery to the situation on hand, as since the places of worship have been shut down to the public. The knowledge and courage to perform these rites were instilled in us by Tavayogi. These days we carry out the Siddha puja during house warming and other auspicious events without the need to engage others as mediums. Just as a sadhu who has cut all forms of attachment to the world and worldly things, still has the welfare of the people in his heart, puts forth a prayer to the cosmos to help heal the world and all in it, without moving from his place of meditation or coming out of meditation, we need to extend these prayers from within the four walls of our rooms, pleading the divine to interfere and put an end to this pandemic. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi brings solace and courage to face this devastating turn of events in her address to the public via a video from her at her ashram in Kollam.

From a report on the Global Economic Effects of COVID-19 at https://fas.org/sgp/crs/row/R46270.pdf we are given an overview of the matter on hand.
Since the World Health Organization (WHO) first declared COVID-19 a world health emergency in January 2020, the virus has been detected in over 150 countries and all U.S. states. The infection has sickened more than 490,000 people, with thousands of fatalities. More than 80 countries have closed their borders to arrivals from countries with infections, ordered businesses to close, and instructed their populations to self-quarantine.
Central banks have engaged in a series of interventions in financial markets and national governments are announcing spending initiatives to stimulate their economies. On March 11, the WHO announced that the outbreak was officially a pandemic, the highest level of a health emergency. It has become clear that the outbreak is negatively impacting global economic growth. The global pandemic is affecting a broad swath of international economic and trade activities, from tourism, medical supplies, and other global value chains, consumer electronics, and financial markets to energy, food, and a range of social activities, to name a few.
But we cannot fail to notice the changes that came on as a result of this outbreak. The society which was moving towards cashlessness in a rather sluggish way now has become a cashless society almost overnight. There was a time when the government was contemplating to restrict the entry of single-driver cars into the city and began encouraging the public to carpool to reduce congestion on the road, these days we are told to drive alone on almost deserted streets. The homeless have now been driven into shelters and their welfare cared for. Animals are moving freely into cities we are told. Carbon emission has dropped and the skies have cleared as a result of fewer vehicles on the road and industries seizing operations. There is a significant increase in usage of home energy though.
The spreading virus has caused a dip in global greenhouse gas emissions. Reasons include a temporary blow to industrial activitiesa, falling demand for oil and a decline in air travel. History suggests that global disasters, particularly those with major effects on the economy, tend to drive a temporary decline in carbon emissions. The 2008 recession, for instance, was accompanied by a temporary dip in global carbon emissions.(Source: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-the-coronavirus-pandemic-is-affecting-co2-emissions/)
Who can comprehend the divine play or lila? We could never fathom, much less comprehend, the workings of nature and the hand behind it?

The divine although did not give an indication of the impending nature of the danger that would come our way, had through Lord Muruga indicated that the need to go within was near, in a Nadi reading in January 2018. But as it was addressed to me I took it that his instructions were for an individual. Later in October of 2018, he tells me the reoccurrence of the back pain was in a way to get me to reduce my outside activities, only told to take care of the crucial activities and the essentials. I reduced my participation in handing out groceries and food to the needy then. Besides taking lots of rest, I was told to wind down and go within. In September of 2019 Agathiyar too indicates the need for me to wind down too and go within and take up Yogam, that I was asked to suspend by Agathiyar after I hurt my back. Moving me away from external puja he asked me to begin internal puja. In November 2019 Ramalinga Adigal came to convey the message, to hold on to Agathiyar, as we have made substantial progress on his path. He tells us to continue on his path and not to let go of his feet. A month later Agathiyar comes in the Nadi asking us to revisit and reread the explanations of Tavayogi in his books on the philosophy behind the 96 Tattvas that govern the body or the Udal Kuru Tatvam. He then asked that we sit and watch the breath in meditation. In January of this year, Agathiyar comes to explain the reason and the need to go within. There was now an urgency and need to come out of matters related to the ways of the world and get to know the soul matter, moving from the external to the internal. He went on to show the way to free oneself from the shackles of material bonding, which he acknowledged as impossible to attain as we are stuck in the matters of the world. To aid letting go of our hold on the lures and pleasures of the world, he asks me to stop unnecessary travelings. He asks to meditate daily in front of him, follow the Yogic cleansing techniques adapted for the respiratory system that helps to ensure and facilitate the unobstructed flow of prana that drives the breath. The Nadi Suddhi as taught by Tavayogi helps clear the airways. Adding on to the opening practice of Nadi Suddhi and its benefits in clearing blockages and restrictions, the airway that was once a single lane road, expands into a freeway that can now cater for the increase in the volume of air taken in and with it, the increase in life energy or prana. The breath moves freely and fully when with the forceful inhalation and exhalation of the breath, hindrances or blockages if any are cleared almost instantaneously. Another technique of taking deep breaths and expelling the breath while sticking the tongue out helps expel kabam or phlegm. Agathiyar says that when a feeling of coolness sets in, just continue to sit in silence. Be calm and at peace. Watch the breath. The breath will eventually come to touch gently the Suzhumunai or Sushumna after having traveled and traversing all the lower chakras.

Agathiyar told me although I had consumed Agathiyar Kuzhambu from Siddha Vaidyar Arivan, that had expelled the toxins and brought a balance to the three dosas, there was yet more filth in my system and put me on a daily regime of taking a milder version of the purgative that he taught me to prepare myself, specifically reminding me, knowing that I was ever overzealous in sharing all things on this blog, it was only to be taken by me and not to be shared. Taking a single dosage of Agathiyar Kuzhambu sent me reeling to the toilet and bathroom. Taken upon waking up, it did its wonders beginning midday and lasted till evening. I purged and vomited numerous times. The Dosas namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha were expelled from vis the rectum, from the deep recesses of the stomach, and through the nostrils. But it felt good after the thorough cleansing was done. But the daily dosage of medicine was a bitter pill to swallow. If only Agathiyar had allowed me to take "A Spoonful of Sugar" to "help the medicine go down" as in the lyric of the song "A Spoonful of Sugar" from Walt Disney's "Mary Poppins" composed by Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman. But it was not to be. I had to strictly adhere to the formula and drink it. I managed to drink it for a period of 40 odd days, skipping the days when I was away from home to attend to others matters or was too traumatized and left drinking it.

Agathiyar then brought me to sleep in his prayer room. He also told me not to go into total isolation yet as there was a need to share more with some seekers. He shall advise accordingly. So my time these days are well spent in the company of Agathiyar day and night, with food on the table, prepared with love and on time and according to my asking. My taste buds were off and going haywire. Food that is tasty at one moment tastes bitter when taken at another moment.

The divine although did not give an indication of the impending nature of the danger that would come our way, when Agathiyar came in December of 2019, he replied to a question where a devotee asked why her family members kept falling ill often? Agathiyar answered that a clean house ushers good health. He asked her to clear all the trash that they have accumulated over the years. What was an instruction to an individual then, is today seen in a massive clean up, sanitation and disinfecting of roads, streets, schools, mosques, apartments, homes, malls, playgrounds and other public places as an attempt to stop the coronavirus from spreading. Sadly the virus that has come into the open has sent us into hiding.

GOING WITHIN 2

If we saw Tavayogi and Kartigayan fill us in on creation in the earlier post, we look towards Swami Vivekananda in his "Raja Yoga - Conquering the Internal nature", Advaita Ashrama, Calcutta, 1998 for his explanation. "When there was neither aught nor naught, what existed", he asks us.

At the beginning of creation, there was only akasha. Before creation, Akasha was in existence or in a state of being without motion. "By what power is the akasha manufactured into this universe," he asks. By the power of prana. Just as akasha is the infinite, omnipresent material of this universe, so is this prana the infinite, omnipresent manifesting power of this universe.

Before creation, that akasha existed without motion. The physical motion of the prana was stopped, but it existed all the same. Akasha that is existence and without shape and form, is given shape and form by Prana. Akasha that is subtle is seen only once it takes on a form. From a potential state, it comes into action or becomes kinetic through the action of the forces brought forth by prana. It is akasha that becomes air, which in turn becomes the liquids; which then turns to solids. Prana is the power or energy that brings forth these forms and their relative transformation and transitions.

While akasha is the omnipresent, all-pervading existence that can be considered as an egg that contains all of creation and its existence; the equally omnipresent, manifesting power or energy that creates, sustains, annihilates, and drives all things is prana. Before creation, prana existed, all the same, its physical action temporarily put on hold. Prana is the driving force behind all the forces such as motion, gravitation, magnetism etc. Prana manifests as actions, thoughts, nerve currents, etc  Prana that is in each particle of food, in every drop of water, ever-present in the air around us, and dwells in the deepest reaches of the ground and the far reaches of space, is the reason we all are breathing and alive today.

Just as at the end of its cycle, they all return to their former states - solids to liquids and liquids to gases and finally it all melts back into akasha, all the forces in the universe too, be it the subtle, mental or physical, all resolve back into the original state of prana, evolving and involving through eternity. At the end of a cycle, the energies now displayed in the universe quieten down and become potential. At the end of the cycle while the solids, the liquids, and the gases all melt into the akasha again, all the forces that are in the universe resolve back into the prana. At the beginning of the next cycle, they start up, strike upon the akasha, and out of the akasha evolve these various forms. And the next creation proceeds out of this akasha.

From thought down to the lowest force, everything is but the manifestation of prana. It is in the ether that the forces of prana are most subtle, in the finer states of vibration. Hence thought is the finest of prana. Thoughts though is classified as arising out of the unconscious, conscious and superconscious. Instincts, reflex action, and unconscious thought is the lowest plane of action. Conscious thought includes judging, thinking, deliberating the pros and cons, and reasoning. But these are all limited by reason. When thoughts go beyond reason and instinct that is superconsciousness. Swami Vivekananda says that a Yogi pushes his mind to the state of superconscious. Imagine if one could harness this prana energy that is the life energy of creation and all its manifestations just as we harness electricity from sunlight, the wind, and water? The Siddhas realized that the only "apparent difference between the living and the dead was the function of respiration." This observation mooted the Siddhas to find ways to increase and retain the prana, that energizes all of creation including both the world around us and including us.

How do we retain this prana in us? The means is by yoga. The technique is by observing the breath. He explains the ways of yoga and pranayama. We are moved by prana to inhale and exhale says Swami Vivekananda. Pranayama then is control of the motion of the lungs. Nerve currents will have to be displaced and given a new channel. New sorts of vibration will begin, the whole constitution will be remodeled, as it were.

Korakar in his "Chandraregai 200", extolls the importance of the prana and its vehicle that is the breath.

Korakar sums it up saying all things move because of this prana and the moment it stops moving the universe perishes. Tavayogi once told me "Breath is God." Agathiyar has mentioned in numerous incidences that he gave his breath to save his devotee.

Korakar in his "Chandraregai 200", mentions the means in retaining the breath within and subduing the mind at the same time, making this body God's dwelling.

பான்மையுறப் பதினெண்பேர் நாதாக்கள் தாம்

Its translation,

"I shall share a divine secret of the 18 Nattakal,
Inhaling, bringing your soul or Atma to witness or look into the circular Jhoti within the triangle,
the mind tends to settle, the moon and sun sets into the circle,
the breath is stalled within, leading to the kingdom of Gnana."

Kalanginathar too reiterates the technique in his "Upadesa Gnanam 34".

"When the prana settles in at the Agnai,
there shall be another birth,
But when it settles in the triangle,
there is no further birth."

Tavayogi wrote in his book, Andamum Pindamum, its translation, "The common man cannot travel the journey as long as he is a captive of the physical and material body. A transformation and transmutation within the depths of the body are required prior to venturing further on. The experiencing of this internal process that comes with the internal journey is Gnanam and Soruba Siddhi. The Siddha path leads to this experience."

The transformation comes with Pranayama and the control of the motion of the lungs, says Swami Vivekananda. With practice, nerve currents will be displaced and given a new channel. New sorts of vibration will begin, the whole constitution will practically be remodeled. If we had previously taken tavam or austerities and dhanam or charity as the tool to in Sariyai and Kriyai, we take the breath as the tool to bring about this transformation and transmutation in Yogam.

When one starts to observe his normal breathing and its pattern, he has moved into yoga and pranayama. Agathiyar had asked that we observe and meditate on this. So when Agathiyar asked if I was doing it, I told him it was rather difficult to get the mind to settle down. He immediately asked if I had started the simple purification therapy that he recommended that I prepare and take on a daily basis. Prior to that, he had Siddha Vaidyar Arivan prepare and give me and others his Agathiyar Kuzhambu that was a purgative to rid of the toxins or kalivu accumulated in the body all these years. I took it and saw the results of this massive cleanout. It was one-off and one could take it again after six months. But that which Agathiyar asks to take daily, was difficult to swallow. He instructed me to take as there were still toxins lodged, although the main course had expelled much of it and brought a balance to the three dosas in the body. On a later visit, he acknowledged that the mind is indeed difficult to tame and bring under control as it will resist all attempts towards it. Nevertheless, he asks to continue the practice of observing the breath. The most compassionate father revealed to us that his Diksa mantra, when recited with the breath held in retention or kumbaka, shall pave the way for one to eventually see bodily changes take place. The existing Asuddha Deham becomes pure or Suddha Deham and later turns into the Pranava Deham and finally becomes Oli Deham.

As I was recalling all these messages and guidance given by Agathiyar and my gurus including the many upagurus who came by, Roshan Sekhon shares a passage from Ruzbeh Bharucha's book "The Fakir - the Journey Within" in our Gnanakottam Whatsapp group, "Was reading, came across this wonderful explanation by Baba. Since we are all into going within and staying still, it's a good read and advice." It came at a time when I was making a deal with Agathiyar asking him if there was an easy way to reach Gnana without any effort. I received the answer (and another slap on the cheeks) from Shirdi Sai through this passage. I have become used to receiving slaps on the cheeks from the gurus and the masters for my foolishness, stupidity, and overzealousness.

It is obvious now that there are no easy means to attain Yogam and Gnanam, reaffirming Agathiyar's earlier moments with me when I asked for Gnanam. He told me Gnana was not given by him, but I had to earn it by placing concerted efforts in moving within. The experiences that unfold during this journey in going within is Gnana for us and it would vary from person to person. As Baba says, "There are no free meals in the cosmos. We all have to work for each meal of ours" and "Under no cost are you or anybody so privileged that you can expect meditation, Oneness, and nothingness to come without proper effort and dedication", nothing comes easy.

Ramalinga Adigal, the most recent Siddha, in his many compositions, that are documented experiences of his journey, tells us that by taking the hand of his guru, Agathiyar, he strived for 12 long years and with the grace of the divine, he attained the much-acclaimed state of deathlessness. Agathiyar himself is said to have meditated under the sea for 12 long years too. Arunagiri is said to have been told to go within and stayed in that deep state of meditation for 12 long years too. When Jnana Jhotiamma was told to go within, Agathiyar shut her up completely inside a room and asked her to stay away from all social media that he said would adversely affect her meditation in solitude or tavam. We too have been reminded to go within. We have to brace ourselves for it is going to be a very very long journey.

GOING WITHIN 1

Manickavasagar in his திருவாசகம்/போற்றித் திருவகவல், sings that there are ஆறு கோடி மாயா சக்திகள் வேறு வேறு தம் மாயைகள் தொடங்கின that veils us. Once this veil is drawn aside by the grace of God he realizes that all that he believed existed were false and that they only seemed real in this realm of illusion or maya, just as a dream would seem real to us in sleep. On coming face to face with truth, reaching the source that is Sivan, we settle back into our original potential state until an unexhausted desire or vasana carried over has to see the light of the day and justifies another birth. When the partnering associates come together and agree upon that it is then time to reincarnate in the world to see through the fruition of these desires, we are born in this world again in another body.

We are an assembly of body, soul, and spirit with the soul being the bridge that connects the body or udal with the spirit or uyir. The nature of the soul is described by P.Karthigayan in his well-researched book, "History of Medical and Spiritual Sciences of Siddhas of Tamil Nadu", Notion Press, 2016 as "We have another body inside the one we possess with pride and that it has all qualities of our outer body except its physical self, which we either bury or burn." Karthigayan writes that the soul continues to live with the same qualities that it acquired in its body in which it previously dwelt. This would mean that the physical body has to serve the soul to garner a better birth for the spirit to enter another body in another birth, with acts of high virtue, that add on merits, and avoiding the vices.

As Agathiyar brought us to release our hold on Sariyai and Kriyai and slowly led us to go within, he told me that there was a need to learn about the உடற்கூறு தத்துவம் first, before we could step into Yogam, asking me to refer to Tavayogi's teachings. Tavayogi had written about these in his book "Andamum Pindamum" and "Atma Gnanam".

The Siddhas are known to have recorded their knowledge of the 64 kinds of learning, 18 Puranas, 48 branches of scientific knowledge and the said 96 tattvas naming it Siddhaveda, after extensive discussions held amongst them at Alagan Kulam and presenting their work to Lord Dhakshinamurthi for his perusal.

wrote Tavayogi. True to his writings, we stand today at this doorway to know, learn and venture on a new adventure into new frontiers and unchartered territories. With sufficient experiences and inquisition comes a flood of knowledge. Researching into the subtle unseen causes and its effects that are visibly seen in the external, clarification of the tatvas arises.

From the first atom, the Paramanu, the Panchabhutam or 5 others, came forth, writes Tavayogi. The world emerged from these 5 atoms coming together. Each atom carried 96 Tatvas. These Tatvas function in our bodies too.

Karthigayan explains further, that these 96 principles tattvas animate us on life's stage, eventually ending their act, leaving and going their way at the end of the divine play. While Karthigayan classifies these 96 principles as being divided into internal and external or as the soul and the body, with 36 in the former and 60 in the later, Tavayogi classifies them into three distinct groups, first 30, second 30 and last 36, grand total 96.

As the body is relative to the universe around us, a study of the former will justify a study of the cosmos too. Tavayogi gives us an idea of how creation took place in his "Andamum Pindamum" and "Atma Thathuvam". He quotes Supramaniar Gnanam 32 where it is revealed that at the beginning there was Sivan. From it emerged a sound. From that sound emerged Sivam or a spark, light, (or the divine spirit, says Karthigayan), neither with a form or formless. The vibration that resulted was Sakti. This first vibration created from the first sound was known as Akaaram. The vibratory waves that sustained this first sound came to be called Ukaaram. Maakaaram was the field that helped contain these vibratory sounds. The three came together as "that", that was to become the source of all creation, known as AUM. As we are part of the universe too, the physical body resonates with these vibrations, functioning effectively.

From https://www.ananda.org/yogapedia/aum/ we learn the same that "AUM is the vibration by which the Supreme Spirit brings all things into manifestation. Paramhansa Yogananda has explained that everything -  all matter, all energy, all thoughts -  exists in AUM." We read further that "AUM, therefore, encompasses the three vibratory energies required to create, preserve, and destroy, and each of these energies vibrates at a different frequency. The three letters of AUM represent these three vibrations inherent in creation.

In the context of Yogam, it is interesting to note that Akaaram is linked to the left eye and Ukaaram with the right. Tavayogi explains that the breath that flows through the left nostril is known as Akaaram and that running through the right nostril is Ukaaram, creating vibrations in Edakala and Pingala respectively. These Nadis vibrate creating further ripple-like vibrations, called Maakaaram, in the midst of the head. The spot where these three sounds and their related vibrations congregate is known as Suzhumunai. Agathiyar tells us to hold the breath in Kumbakam just sufficiently long enough to chant the first Diksa mantra.

KR Sivakanthan in his "Sittargal Tathuvamum Yoga Neri Muraigalum", Tirunelveli Then India, Saiva Sitthantha Noor Pathippu Kazhagam, Chennai, 2003, writes on the subject of creation too.

Creation began in Paraparam from which Param emerged. From Param came forth Sivan, Sakti emerging from it later, followed by Naathan. Vinthu emerged from Naathan, Sadasivam from Vinthu, and Maheswaran from Sadasivam. Uruthiran emerged from Maheswaran, Vishnu from Uruthiran, and Brahmam from Vishnu. Brahmam gave birth to the Panchabhootas, that came about or evolved from each other. The five elements saw their beginning from the sky, from which came forth the element air. This gave rise to fire. Water emerged from the fire, and earth from water. Finally man, animal, birds, plants, mountains, and rivers rose from earth. The reverse takes place at the end of the cycle, all returning to the form from which they came forth.

Just as creation is the effect of Panchabhoothas, the body too is a product of these five elements made in the ratio 1 1/2 part earth; 1 1/4 water; 1 part fire; 3/4 air; and 1/2 sky totaling 5 in any given circumstances. The body that is a composite of these five elements in their respective and ideal ratios sustains itself, and remains in good health. The Siddhas remind us to ensure the ratio of these elements is maintained well to prevent ailment and in worst cases death. How can then one watch 24/7 over these tattvas? Through watching the breath, say the Siddhas. It is rather timely that Agathiyar too has brought us to watch the breath.
