Agathiyar, upon coming into my life, gave me the access card to consult his Nadi readings on a regular basis. He taught me to take charge of my life henceforth, after having me carry out remedies to soften the hold of past Karma. Coming as a bronze statue into my home, and with the coming of Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal, they both had me take the rituals into my hands, eliminating the need for a medium between us. Through these rituals, he opened the doors to the kingdom of Siddhas. The bridge was drawn down for the Siddhas to come into our home. The home became a "temple". Giving me a treasure in the form of Yoga Asanas and Pranayama through Tavayogi, he gave me the key to unlock the Muladhara. He turned the human body into a powerhouse of electricity. The body became a receptacle and a vehicle for the divine to come within and have us do his work. Eventually, the body becomes a "temple" itself.
This was the journey outlined for humanity by the Siddhas. And it is given to each of us free of charge, provided we choose to take on the offer. They shower us with these opportunities as they come into our lives. Some seeds germinate while many do not. I am glad that the seed that was sown in me grew to become a tree that then gave shade to many. I am glad that this tree withstood time and weather. One day it shall fall too.
I have spoken to others about it and written about it in this blog too. It is about whether to involve ourselves, how far one should involve, and when we should know to back off from attending to the affairs of others and the world. Since we are not alone, as we are a family, a community, a society, and a nation of people, what happens around us affects us too. Similarly, what we do affects others too.
We might not be able to stop wars far away. But when things happen before our very eyes, or right under our nose, how can we shut or close our eyes and be indifferent to it?
We learn from the movie "Karuppu," where, when a devotee asks the village deity Karuppu, who had taken a form, why he kept away and was not answering the prayers of devotees till then, he replies that "That is the reason you (we) are placed on the face of the earth." We are apostles and messengers, and represent them in flesh and form. The Gods expect us to do something.
Tom Jones sings, "What good am I?" asking,
What good am I - if I'm like all the rest If I just turn away - when I see how you're dressed If I shut myself off - so I can't hear you cry What good am I?
What good am I - if I know and don't do If I see and don't say - if I look straight through you If I turn a deaf ear - to the thundering sky What good am I?
What good am I - while you softly weep And I hear in my head - what you say in your sleep And I freeze in the moment - like the rest who don't try What good am I?
What good am I then - to others and me If I've had every chance - and yet still fail to see With my hands tied must I - not wonder within Who tied them and why - and where must I have been?
What good am I if I say foolish things And I laugh in the face - of what sorrow brings And I just turn my back - while you silently die What good am I?
Then we have Mother Teresa recite the peace prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, which was written some 400 -500 years ago, at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, wondering if, "When Saint Francis of Assisi composed the prayer, they had the same difficulties as we have today because it is very fitting for us also."
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Such lovely verses.
But on the other hand, the saints tell us that it is all fine and that it is all happening as it should. One can counter this by saying it is fine that you sit in your ashram amidst your followers, out of harm's way, dishing out philosophical thoughts and speeches while many go hungry and suffer out there. But both Bhagawan Ramana and Yogi Ramsuratkumar were beaten up too, and they took on the blows willingly. They even pardoned their attackers. That is why they are saints.
Sadhu Om has penned so many songs, brought to life by Sriram Parthasarathy on YouTube, that tend to console us and have us leave things as they are. The Beatles too have written and sung the song, "Let It Be".
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree There will be an answer, let it be For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see There will be an answer, let it be
And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me Shinin' until tomorrow, let it be I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Bhagawan Ramana even told Sadhu Om, not once but thrice, to do what he came to do and nothing more. I, too, in recent times, have had this told to me by so many sources and from so many sides, reminding me to do what I came for. Here is where we need to know our purpose in coming here, just as Agathiyar stated it as the very first criterion of his five Tenets to mankind during the Sangam age.
I had begun to ask myself, after Agathiyar, in calling me to the path in 2002, and sing the praises of the Siddhas, and after sending me to meet Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal in 2005, who initiated me to carry out rituals to the Siddhas, and passed me the treasure that is Yoga Asanas and Pranayama in 2007, had me commission his bronze statue in 2010, and after sending youths over to my home to watch and participate in our home Puja in 2013 that later we brought into the homes of others and into the corridors of the temples in 2016, and after having us take up doing charity first to the old, aged, disabled adults and the abandoned children, and bringing us to feed the homeless, and finally helping the poor and unfortune, why he had us end it all in 2019? If he had the others go their way, he had me go within, imprisoning me within the four walls of his prayer room. He had me go within, which I have to say does not come easy to me until this day. Today I fully understand that he had kept me out of harm's way as the planet Saturn began to cast its shadow over me from 2020 to this day. Agathiyar came as the savior.
If I had thought all this while that each of us has a certain specific purpose in coming here, Lena Wendth tells us that "When I discovered Eckhart Tolle, he speaks about two purposes: an outer purpose and an inner one. And suddenly life made sense."
Going by Eckhart Tolle, we read at https://eckharttolle.com/outer-and-inner-purpose/
If you look within rather than only without, however, you discover that you have an inner and an outer purpose, and since you are a microcosmic reflection of the macrocosm, it follows that the universe too has an inner and outer purpose inseparable from yours. The outer purpose of the universe is to create form and experience the interaction of forms—the play, the dream, the drama, or whatever you choose to call it. Its inner purpose is to awaken to its formless essence.
Then comes the reconciliation of outer and inner purpose: to bring that essence—consciousness—into the world of form and thereby transform the world. The ultimate purpose of that transformation goes far beyond anything the human mind can imagine or comprehend. And yet, on this planet at this time, that transformation is the task allotted to us. That is the reconciliation of outer and inner purpose, the reconciliation of the world and God.
I have come to understand my role and purpose better, thanks to Lena Wendth and Eckhart Tolle. My purpose as a Catalytic Spiritual Teacher was revealed through a reading of the "Spiritual Numerology of Moses," or better known as the "Soul Contract Reading," some time back, which meant that I had to prepare myself to fit the role and to come out of my cocoon and take up my purpose as revealed. Agathiyar came to endorse the reading later, asking me how he was to depend on one person to do his work. He had to raise everyone equally to come to the state where they carry out his work, exactly what was said by Karuppu in the movie.
A Spiritual Catalyst is like a Guru; that's all.
He "precipitates, triggering, sparking, bringing on a major change abruptly, or initiating an event to cause it to happen suddenly, unexpectedly, or sooner than anticipated." That's all. Spiritual Catalysts do not aim to become leaders to their disciples as much as they wish to cause their disciples to question and find answers within themselves."

I think I fit into these shoes perfectly, for many have likened me to a beacon. A beacon gives out light to make others aware of the rocks and dangers out at sea, as "in a lighthouse or other signal for guiding ships, and as a radio transmitter emitting signals to guide aircraft, or a signal fire commonly on a hill, tower, or pole, or a source of light or inspiration to others." (Source: https://tealswan.com/resource)
I guess he is like the monsoon that comes and goes. He does not have a following nor an Ashram or temple where people converge till the end. I just needed to show them to the door, give them the tools, and back off. That was all I had to do. Agathiyar, who surprised me by asking if he should make me a guru some time back, immediately retracted his offer and instead offered something else that only time will tell.
Lena Wendth says, "I used to ask, 'What do I want from life? Now I'm learning to ask life, ' What do you want from me?" I have no idea where life would take me next. And to be honest, I have no problem with that because for years I thought finding my purpose would finally bring me peace. Today I deeply believe that practicing peace is my deepest purpose. And maybe if I keep returning there again and again, my outer purpose will quietly keep finding me too."
Mahindren, who came around some moments ago, said the same as a parting statement: what is left for us to do is to change our standpoint, view, and perspective; accept and adapt. Indeed, this is what "God" says in the movie "Charukeshi": that reaching the beach at Kanyakumari, one thinks that since he has reached the sea, that is the end of the journey. But if one were to turn around and look, he sees the whole Indian subcontinent ahead of him. He quips that it is a matter of perspective.
In moving from chaos to acceptance and peace, Google says, "Moving from chaos to peace requires shifting your mindset, accepting what you cannot change, and building daily mental discipline. Peace is not the absence of trouble, but an inner calm while facing it."
I understand why Agathiyar asked me to bear the noise from the neighbors back then. I understand why, when it pained me to see many leave the path, he consoled me that nothing is gained in forcefully bringing them to it and that they shall return in good time.
Then, watching Ram Dass speak, I understood it further.
Every time I would get caught in something, I got caught in anger about somebody being adharmic, meaning doing something that isn't in the spirit. Okay? Somebody rips somebody off or something like that. And I'd get angry. Maharaj, he would get so frustrated with me, and he'd say to me, "Don't you see it's all perfect?" And here was the paradox that all he was telling me to do was to recognize the perfection of it all and, at the same moment, work full-time to relieve the suffering of it. And that literally is the paradox that a spiritual person lives in the world with, which you could put another way: that the higher consciousness is tuned to God, to the law, to the way of things, to the perfection of the unfolding of the living spirit in form.
He adds that
The ability to see the perfection of the universe, including the suffering, that God didn't make a mistake. That's all perfect. And at the same moment, to do everything in your power to be an instrument of that which relieves suffering just because that's the part you play in the whole dance. Not because it's better or worse. You're just playing that part in the whole structure of the game. That's the thy will. You surrender. Because once you are aware of these higher planes, you cannot do things which create more suffering.
Just as Lena Wendth initially thought and came to believe she was here to change the world, and that something changed all that, I too had come to accept that I am not here to change the world, but I can surely change the moment and what happens before me. It might go a long way in bringing peace to a soul somewhere out there, just as the ripples spread far and wide.
If I were surprised to hear Dr Krishnan, upon reading my birth chart in 1996, tell me that I shall write, and I did, compiling my travels and pilgrimage to India on my maiden journey in 2002, and sharing them on my earlier websites and later, through this blog, in 2013, Agathiyar in 2022 asked that I stop writing about him and the masters but instead share what was taking place within me. Recently, he told me his transmissions would cease, and henceforth it would be solely my writings. I guess this is one of them, voicing my concern and confusion too. It is only from confusion that clarity is eventually found. It is only when the sea is churned that the Amrita or Ambrosia is made available to us. I shall continue to write till the last drop of ink, or rather, the last drop of blood.
"Know the real self, and then the truth will shine forth within your heart like sunshine. The mind will become untroubled, and real happiness will flood it, for happiness and the true self are identical. You will have no more doubts once you attain this self-awareness."
(Source: Self Realization: The Life and Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi by B. V. Narasimha Swami, Sri Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamalai, 1985)
This is what we are here for. This is our true and inner purpose. Everything else is an extension of this. All else serves only to aid us in eventually going within, provided we do not fall for the lure and hold on forever to all that is external and expendable.
To get there, we have to begin the journey by marching on the path initially imposed on us. Later, with liberty and freedom made available, we skip along in joy. Having fallen and hurt ourselves, we then turn to know the reasons for making that decision or turn. Walking with the guru, we are shown our outer purpose and directed to our inner purpose. Finally settling within, the soul in us comes as the guru and walks in us, revealing it all, pulling the veil and curtain aside, and having us see and recognise the path that we once had traveled in the way past, and the Kingdom that was once home to us.
Briefly said, this is life's journey. The time taken to return home and arrive there, though, is dependent on the time we spend staying attached and rooted to the lures of the world. Then, when the search is triggered and it begins, the wandering starts. After losing one's way, or having to go in circles, or stalling momentarily to attend to other needs and responsibilities, then it is a mad rush to catch up on lost time. We often do not make it in time to board the train to realizing the Self. One then comes back to start the cycle. The soul that made the decision to make this journey, packing up its bag with all the past baggage and tools required, after living life as desired and gathering lessons from the experiences, eventually makes an attempt to board the train back home. Making numerous attempts to get back on board and failing, it eventually seeks the grace of the divine to lift it up, acknowledging that it is never possible through its own effort and willpower. This cry for mercy brings the door to God's kingdom to open wide. It is granted access back to God's kingdom. The pure soul returns home.
"We believe we are living the life we chose. But are we? Or are we simply living the life we inherited? The habits, the routines, the definition of success, the constant rush. For years, I never questioned any of it. I simply functioned until one day my body forced me to stop."
"For years I believed I was living the life I had chosen. But after spending nine months in a hospital, I realized I had simply inherited a definition of success that wasn't truly mine. That realization led me to leave everything behind and begin a journey across Africa that has now lasted more than twelve years."
"I slowly stepped away from the life I inherited and started building one that actually felt like my own."
A search on Google tells us that,
You inherit 50% of the DNA from your mother and 50% from your father. This genetic code determines physical traits like eye color and height, and it influences your risk for certain health conditions. Before passing it down, parents' chromosomes mix randomly, meaning siblings get different combinations.
Agathiyar, in his memo to us regarding the Body (Udal), Breath (Uyir), and Soul (Atma), revealed the following.
The Pindam, made of the elements derived from the Pancha Maha Bhutam in a specific proportion, takes a form that begins to reside in the womb. The five elements are taken from each parent's body to form the zygote and shape the body of the embryo, fetus, and child. If the proportions are compromised, complications appear in the child.
One portion of earth from the female and three portions from the male; Four portions of water from the female and three from the male; Five portions of fire from the female and six from the male; Eight portions of air from the female and two from the male; and finally one portion of Ether from the female and eight from the male go towards making a healthy constitution.
If the soul is said to monitor this under the watchful eyes of Lord Brahma, the Karma of the individual and ancestors further determines our placement in families and nations conducive for us to experience what we came to learn. The planets later govern us, affecting the individual and his generation to come.
Besides inheriting our parents' DNA, which carries the genetic code and risk factors for health, we either live through their times of troubles and sufferings too, in extreme cases turning over trash looking for a silver spoon, or on the other hand live a life of pleasure having been born with a silver spoon. Our parents, grandparents, and ancestors, who are a part of us then, then live the life we do later. Similarly, we inherit the beliefs and faith we received from our ancestors and parents and later through the religious institutions. Coming to the spiritual masters, we inherit their ways of living and thoughts. But I was bent on making changes in the template adhered to by others, like in conducting traditional Siddha Puja, after watching the Siddhas themselves come to carry them out at my home, Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) back then. Mentioning this to the head of an ashram, asking him to simplify the rituals after he took over from his deceased master, he asked me how he could possibly drop the 300-year-old practices traditionally carried out. When I asked Lord Muruga, who asked me to build him a temple too in 2018, after Agathiyar asked for one in 2002, how many more temples he wants and needs, he replied to my thoughts and questions that arose in me, in the Nadi, saying that I shall do it differently. Ramalinga Adigal, in building the Satya Gnana Sabai, indeed did it differently too. But after his departure, we understand that people stepped in and changed things.
I guess I too, like Lena Wendth says, "I slowly stepped away from the life I inherited and started building one that actually felt like my own"; I have stepped away from inheriting the tradition. This does not come as a surprise now, since Agathiyar, in revealing my past birth in my very first Nadi reading, said that I had angered the elders when born as a Namboothiri priest in Kerala; I went against tradition and changed things and carried their curses, called Brahmahathi Dosham, into this life.
Speaking about her purpose, Lena Wendth says, "And for the longest time, I thought my purpose was to change the world. For years I believed my purpose was to change the world. It sounds naive phrase, but I generally believed it."
She said it well, about our wants that keep changing over time. She says,
"When I was younger, I never wanted just one thing. One day I wanted to become a vet. The next day I was fascinated by the horse police. Then crime psychology."
"I thought I had found my calling. I wanted to become a war correspondent. I believed that if people could only see what was really happening, they would wake up."
"I wanted to heal the world while feeling completely disconnected from myself."
"But becoming a journalist taught me something I'd never expected. Just because a story is told doesn't mean the world changes. Often the only thing that changes is the number of people watching. And after a while, even the most heartbreaking stories become yesterday's news. People carry fear, shock, guilt, but very little actually changes."
Then she saw a shift in her.
"When I discovered Eckhart Tolle, he speaks about two purposes: an outer purpose and an inner one. And suddenly life made sense."
" I stopped looking outside for a while. And instead I started my own healing journey."
"Then I realized that if people don't change inside, can the world ever heal? My whole understanding of purpose began to fall apart. But suddenly, I wasn't looking for stories that explained the world anymore. I was looking for stories that helped me understand myself."
"Most of the stories we believe were never ours. They were our parents' fears, our teachers' limitations, society's expectations. A sentence someone once said that we never forgot until one day we couldn't tell the difference anymore."
When she was "Full of ideas, full of energy, always believing there had to be something more. Different circumstances, the same me. That confused me. I thought it simply meant I still hadn't found my real purpose, that there was another mountain, another achievement. Another version of myself waiting in the future. All those years, I wasn't searching for purpose," she says. "I was asking my purpose to make me feel whole. To finally tell me, you've made it. You are enough now. But no purpose in the world can do that."
Today she says, "Every journey, every encounter, every ordinary day teaches me less about certainty and more about presence."
She adds another gem, saying, "I don't think life is asking us to understand everything. Maybe it's simply asking us to stay open, to trust. Purpose quietly found me. Not as one big mission, but as a way of living."
If she thought the purpose was to change the world, and she believed it, so too would I and my wife have believed if I had not negated and let go, and accepted all that Agathiyar had us take up. We might have taken them to greater heights and possibly touched and changed people's lives. We might have attained greater fame, too. But Agathiyar had me shove them aside, so I could see my true purpose in coming here.
Although I do tend to agree with Lena Wendth that, "Just because a story is told, the world does not change" and as she adds further that "The only thing that changes is the number of people watching her videos," or in my case, reading the blog, many a saint has come along and keep coming to tell more stories in the hope that it shall lead us, who have strayed away from the path of truth, back home. A book I picked up at my college library back then taught me to say no. Another book, Paramahansa Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi", which was passed on to me by an officer at the office who opted out of the government job to become a monk at Paramahansa Yogananda's Ranchi Ashram in India, made me aware of masters and gurus living amongst us. I understand that my writings too have struck a chord with a handful of readers going by their correspondence with me.
Lena Wendth writes that,
"Everything is already okay. So these days I'm trying to make peace, and every time I manage to come back to that peace for some seconds, life becomes a little quieter, a little lighter. I notice something interesting in that state of peace. There's this calling that appears from time to time. Calling for me to move for the next step. It's like my outer purpose seems to find me while I'm connected with my inner purpose instead of the other way around. I used to ask, "What do I want from life? Now I'm learning to ask life, what do you want from me?" I have no idea where life would take me next. And to be honest, I have no problem with that because for years I thought finding my purpose would finally bring me peace. Today I deeply believe that practicing peace is my deepest purpose. And maybe if I keep returning there again and again, my outer purpose will quietly keep finding me too."
"But our outer purpose can never replace our inner one. Because everything we build will one day disappear. Everything eventually disappears: the films, the books, this YouTube channel, my work, my body, everything in the outer world changes. And strangely, I don't find that depressing anymore. I find it freeing because if all of that can disappear, then maybe it was never who I truly was. So I ask myself: if I let go of my work, my achievements, possessions, my appearance, my past, my opinions, what remains is quietness, a deep feeling of being. And from here I don't need to become anyone."
"And from here I don't need to become anyone." This coincidentally was told to me by Balamurugan during our telephone conversation yesterday afternoon. He, who had earlier told me to remain Shanmugam Avadaiyappa, asked me again why I wanted to become another Ramalinga Adigal or, for that matter, another person.
I can relate to what she says. I thank her for sharing. I guess she won't mind me sharing her story with readers too.
Living life to its fullest, there comes a time when we question our purpose in coming here. In letting go and losing our hold on things, when we travel within, sitting in silence and contemplating our being and purpose here, the guru in us, the Soul, is met. It reveals our true purpose. As for me, I have come to just be and watch for now, as my outer purpose came to be known through Agathiyar knocking at my door and giving me several tasks to do, pretty much to his satisfaction. His message, too, has been delivered widely and across. Today Agathiyar has me drop what initially seemed to be my purpose in coming here and has me sit and spend my time alone, in the moment, with only my memories, his thoughts, and the memorable moments with him, bringing me to know my inner purpose. This, I have come to know, is what he meant by asking me to know my Soul and Sivam. It is both blissful and peaceful. At other times, though, the silence is boring; the boredom fills the very emptiness. What initially instilled fear in me is now accepted and blissful. I guess I have found my Self.
Bhagawan Ramana says, "Know the real self and then the truth will shine forth within your heart like sunshine.
It has been some twenty-four years now since I came to know Agathiyar, although he tells me that we have known each other for crores of years. He remembers, but I have forgotten. My wife had a dream many years back in which she saw a set of footprints appear alongside in the sand with each step I took, as if someone invisible was walking beside me. Who else could it be but the Siddhas?
Agathiyar, having me take up the call to come to the path, and having revealed the fruits of my efforts in traveling the path and the journey through numerous Nadis, finally summed it all up and had me take notes and share them with a handful of invitees during the Guru Purnima of 2024. He made it known to others the experiences one would encounter on the path to Light.
Along the way, I have come to realize that the Siddhas test us either by luring us with gifts or by having us take up work and shoulder responsibilities that bring on position, authority, and fame that eventually inflates our ego and corrupts us. Then they test us too, to see if we are willing to step down or drop all these and break the bond and attachment that comes along with it. While many fall for it, very few see through this game and are caught for life. I am glad we saw through his game, and my wife and I escaped from the web.
Agathiyar wanted me to build a temple for him. Later, Lord Muruga joined the bandwagon, asking for one too. He wanted to gift me the Jeeva Nadi for my reference and for others' use too. I did not move to carry out the former request and refused the latter. Agathiyar then instead turned my home into his Garden or Vanam, and Lord Muruga bestowed the name Agathiyar TapoVanam on it later. Agathiyar then bestowed the name Gnana Kottam too. Lord Muruga came later and told me that my home was a temple itself and revealed that they had tested me.
If I had a voice in deciding the above, Agathiyar had many turn up at my home where he saw to their needs asking me to step aside while he used my body and venue for his work on hand working on them although I was not too happy with it.
Agathiyar then sent youths over to my home after their Nadi readings to watch and participate in our home Puja. Later he had us bring the Puja into the temples too. He had us carry out charity too. And so Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) and its charity wing Amudha Surabhi came to be.
After having wished to give me the privilege of building a temple and gifting me his Nadi, and having my home become the epicenter of rituals and charity, he had me dissolve it all with a touch of the keypad on my smartphone. All that came into being from 2013 until 2019 dissolved into thin air, just as Thanos in "Avengers: Infinity War" used the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all life in the universe with a single snap. Agathiyar, then telling me that he was moving house, asked me to bring his bronze statue into the home of a devotee. I did as he wished without any reservation.
He had tested me to see if I was hooked on the attention and respect that comes with position and authority, and were hooked on and got high in serving others, in the former, and also if we were attached to his form and image in the latter. He explained that though he left my home, he remained as the Prapanjam in my home, hence getting us to see him as beyond form, image, and name.
Later, he asked if he should make me a Guru but immediately retracted the offer and instead told me he would bring me into his fold or ThiruKuttam and make me a Siddha instead.
He then asked that I drop my attachment to him too, asking, "How else could we become one?" He brought me from Dvaita to Advaita.
Finally, he asked me to know the Atma and also Sivam (ParamAtma).
Then there is Maya that veils our five senses, bringing us to believe the mirage, the dream, and the fake as is seen and heard, felt and experienced, and held on to as real. If Tavayogi, on the very day he stepped into my home, trashed me for regarding him as someone holy and special, going by his name and attire, saying I was living in Maya, I am glad that the Siddhas and the deities were on hand to save me from stepping into the quicksand or plunging into the pit further when Lord Muruga exposed the play or Lila of Lord Siva, Agathiyar and Indran.
I am grateful to my gurus and the Siddhas for taking my hand and walking with me. Unlike these days, where, sadly, everything, including spiritualism, has a price tag attached to it, I never paid a single fee to come to know the Siddhas and their teachings. Sadly, in current times, aspirants pay to gain access to this knowledge, teachings, and practice that were given freely to those keen to know by the Siddhas in the past. The saints of the past, too, never copyrighted their works as people do these days. Imagine if the saints had copyrighted their works; we would not be singing their songs in public.
Was all this fated and destined?
Picking up Annie Besant's "Avatara-s", The Theosophical Publishing House, 2002, I read the following: "There are no accidents in a universe of law."
Moments later, picking up Neale Donald Walsch's book "The Wisdom of the Universe", I read the same: that "There is no coincidence and nothing happens by accident." We are told further that "Each event and adventure is called to your Self by your Self in order that you might create and experience who you really are. All true masters know this."
So apparently we are no "Accidental Tourist" in coming here.
How can I repay their love, kindness, and compassion, for they have kept me alive and running until now? I am still standing by their grace.
If Agathiyar had explained the target and the goal and revealed the results of my worship and practice, which I had shared in the last post, we would now need to look into the practice, method, and means that would bring us to attain the goal.
The best and safest approach would be Bhakti, where, besides going about our lives, we find time to pay homage, offer gratitude, and express thanks to the divine. A spirited Bhakta, or devotee beliefs strongly in God and has faith that God cares for their well-being. When faced with difficulties, they seek out astrologers, numerologists, priests, and Swamijis for solutions.
For others who begin to continuously face obstacles and obstructions and mountains that pose challenges that break them, they tend to question the very existence of God. This leads them to look into the pages of books to get insights or seek out ashrams and gurus for solace and to gain clarity.
Many such devotees have turned up at my door too, sent by Agathiyar. He has me and my wife listen to them. He occasionally addresses their grievances and sends them off. If some return, while others keep in touch, many go into oblivion. For those who choose to remain, the guru who departed his wisdom all those years would then pass on the techniques and practices for them to work on. And so did Agathiyar have me impart the techniques to Mahindren and have Mahindren teach the Yoga Asanas to others. Now the ball is in their court. The results are dependent on whether they take it up, do it diligently, and correctly. Many are known to give up. Many tend to forget and fall out. When another Swamiji comes along, they stand in line for another initiation (again), practice for some time (again), and let go of it too, only to wait in line another day before another Swamiji. Some hurriedly gather the practice, method, and learn the tricks of the trade and turn to become gurus themselves, and begin to preach to others immediately.
Coming to the Siddhas, they help us work on our past Karma so that we are free from the results of our past actions and can start afresh on a new chapter of a spiritual journey as planned and ordained by the Siddhas. I was blessed to have two Gurus in the physical form. Though Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai left his mortal frame just four years after I was brought to him, Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal of Kallar Ashram stayed to mould me into who I am today. Agathiyar, who brought me to meet Tavayogi on our shores, had me follow him back to his ashram a couple of months after his departure. He wanted me to spend several days with him at his ashram and in traveling to holy sites. As we left the hotel in Trichy towards the hills of Kuttrallam, Tavayogi turned to me, telling me that "Only now our true journey begins, my son." Though I could not comprehend his words back then in 2005, after some twenty-one years, I see the truth in all the short and brief statements he made in passing. The true teaching does not come through listening to discourses nor through holding satsangs, but one has to live with the guru, eat what he eats, drink what he drinks, take in the air that he takes in and expels, and be by his side to truly receive the teaching. All the teachings, gifts, and treasures were imparted during these moments with him without my knowledge. I came back carrying the seed, as Swami Muktananda says: "The difference between you and the Guru is that you are the seed and the Guru is the full-grown tree; you are the beginning, and he is the end." (KUNDALINI - THE SECRET OF LIFE, Siddha Yoga Publication, 1994)
It is not only important that one finds or comes to the guru. He has to stay put. Time shall then reveal the secrets. Ramana Maharishi strongly believed that the spiritual energy of a master could transform man’s consciousness, writes Truman Caylor Wadlington in his book YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR - THE GODCHILD OF TIRUVANNAMALAI.
On his next visit in 2007, Tavayogi fine-tuned the ritual of lighting the Homam that he had me start. He passed on the treasure that Agathiyar had promised me, teaching me several Asanas and Pranayama techniques. Post-pandemic, Agathiyar had me teach it to Mahindren and had him teach it to a handful of devotees gathered at AVM. When Mahindren dived into this practice ferociously, Agathiyar had him halt it, considering that he had a family to raise, nurture, and care for. It was put on hold for a future date.
My search stopped after meeting these two gurus. As distance kept us apart, Agathiyar and the Siddhas regularly came through Nadi readings and filled in the voids, enriching me with practices and wisdom. After their demise, the Siddhas never abandoned me either. In the absence of Nadi readers, they came through other devotees. At other times, they had us take notes while they dictated to us.
"Those who have seen the truth can also show it to others", says Bhagawan Ramana in Sadhu Natanananda's SRI RAMANA DARSANAM.
"The Guru has found everything you are seeking; that which you want has become the Guru’s wealth," writes Swami Muktananda in KUNDALINI - THE SECRET OF LIFE, Siddha Yoga Publication, 1994.
Paul Zweig writes in the introduction to Swami Muktananda’s THE PERFECT RELATIONSHIP, published by Syda Foundation, 1985,
Swami Muktananda himself travelled all over India seeking a Guru. He became a monk at the ashram of Siddharuda Swami. After almost twenty-five years, he met Bhagawan Nithyananda, who became his Guru. In a flash of self-understanding, he knew that he had found his other half; that now he was whole again.
Swami Muktananda proclaims that the Masters themselves were the secret, writes Paul Zweig, in the introduction to Swami Muktananda’s THE PERFECT RELATIONSHIP, Syda Foundation, 1985
Swami Muktananda realized that the ‘secret’ was with the Guru and so the need for one to learn at the feet of such a Guru. He felt that God's ‘secret’ was not contained in any Sanskrit formula, ancient ritual, or technique of meditation; that severe austerities and physical deprivation would not reveal it. He felt that the ‘secret’ resided with great beings, with saints; they were themselves the ‘secret,’ and he could learn what they were by loving them and sitting at their feet.
Tavayogi says that the guru shall test his student for some twelve years before passing on these techniques that are akin to a double-edged sword - it could either make one or break one. After sitting at the Holy Feet of one's guru for some twelve years, where his ego is diced, having learned and put into practice the techniques given by the guru for a further number of years, where it is further burnt in the heat of the Tapas and austerities, our ego is shredded further when we are told that
All scriptures and Sadhana are simply means of washing away the filth of ignorance. They have no ability of their own to reveal the wisdom of the self because that principle is self-existent, perfect, and always manifest. (SECRET OF THE SIDDHAS, a Siddha Yoga Publication, 1980; Muktananda, Secret of the Siddhas, 1980).
We then arrive home. If we had originally thought and told of a journey that we needed to make to discover God and divine beings, we come to the self-realization that God dwells in us and the very Self is God. We then return to being our true nature, that which is Divine. The guru has done his work, imparting the truth that each is a guru to himself and that we are all divine, or, in the words of Gautama Buddha, "We are all Buddhas". One only needs to work on this inherent Buddha nature. For that, a guru needs to come by. Later on, knowing one's soul, the soul becomes the guru. He or she shall then rest in peace.
Read more about these profound masters and their equally profound disciples in an e-book I compiled and uploaded at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zrx_4OZnF7ss8754vh6W6r5afD6P_Sew/view?usp=sharing
This post is in response to a friend and devotee who, once in the past, asked me why the need to praise the Siddhas, and recently asked that I write about the target and goal of the journey, which interestingly starts with singing the praises of the Siddhas. He asked me to list the procedures for attaining the goal too. I have to fall back on Agathiyar, for Agathiyar has, all this while, only spelt out what the Siddhas did to attain their current state.
Agathiyar initially revealed both the journey and the goal, not in its totality, but only after holding my hands we arrived at each milestone of the journey. It was only towards the end that he began to summarize the journey and had me share it with seekers keen to walk the mile too, as when he revealed, through a memo that he had Mahindren write down, that when the Udal or Body takes a form, a composite of the five Tatvas, and again returns to these Tatvas, the Uyir or Breath merges in the Atma or Soul and reaches Agathiyar as Jothi or Light.
Later he had me write down the journey in its totality and share it too. It is all about transforming oneself, moving from the gross back to the subtle and thence experiencing the states that come with it. Though it is pretty apparent in the pages or posts of this blog, I shall attempt to bring all these scattered pieces of information and directives from Agathiyar in this single post for easy reading. As for his observation that these posts were too lengthy, I cannot possibly shorten them, for it was a long journey and a very lengthy process that took years to unfold. Anyway, thank you, Balamurugan, for your constructive comments and requests.
At the very onset of meeting him in 2005, I had told Tavayogi that I wanted to see him become Light, having read that Ramalinga Adigal turned himself into one. But Tavayogi, very humbly, told me that he had missed the boat due to his age. He was 69 then. Then, when Jnana Jothiamma came along in 2011, and as Agathiyar was working on her to attain a body of Light and become Light, I was excited again, hoping to see this feat take place. But again, due to her age and her giving up, as it was a painful process of transformation, I could not see this miracle take place in her either. She too was in her sixties. I knew no one else who was a potential candidate to become Light.
Although Tavayogi very humbly mentioned that he too had to come back to attempt to attain that state, after his demise, a devotee from Johannesburg in South Africa, Mrs Kogie Pillai, had a dream where she saw him being ferried across a waterway in a boat by Lord Siva, towards a mountain range where Sages, Siddhas and Rishis went about their work. Agathiyar had comforted Tavayogi's daughter many years back in a Nadi reading that Lord Siva and Parvathy would come to usher his soul, in what he called the Puspa Vimanam. Dhanvantri, in coming to us through a devotee, told us that Tavayogi had become Light, just as Tavayogi told me that Agathiyar came before him as Light in the jungles of Kallar, and again, on the night I arrived at his ashram.
Mentioning my aspirations to see someone, or anyone for that matter, turn into Light before my very eyes to Balamurugan, he asks me, "Why don't you do it?" I had to spill the beans and reveal what Agathiyar told me after literally breaking my back when the Muladhara opened as a result of the Yoga Asanas and Pranayama techniques that Tavayogi showed me, which were gifted by Agathiyar and regarded as a treasure.
There is much I need to carry out through you. Enough of my praise. Write about your bodily experiences. Let your writings be about the changes taking place in your body. Let your readers know the changes that take place in the body if they come to worship the Light and seek to merge with it. My wisdom shall be your experience. Experience first, and I shall clarify the experiences later. Experience is knowledge to you. Nothing is beyond experience.
Just as he told me in the Nadi reading much earlier that in giving me practices and tips, he was only sharing what the Siddhas had done, seen, and realized through these practices, similarly, I can only share my account and experiences that came by way of the Siddhas with readers - nothing more, nor nothing less, and nothing further.
But before we arrive there, we have to recap the journey.
PHASE 1 - LOOKING OUTWARDS
Sariyai
I was born and raised to worship the pantheon of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, often listening to my mother tell me stories from the Puranas. I attended a class in Tevaram with my Ceylonese childhood friends, conducted by an elderly teacher from Ceylon. I would attend class at the Buddhist Vihara or temple in my neighborhood, listening to the stories revolving around the life of Gautama Buddha. I was privileged to attend the chapel at my missionary school. I took up a postal correspondence course, reading the Bible with course materials arriving by post from a church in Singapore. All these were done when I was growing up and studying. Taking on a job in 1980, I would sit in on the prayers conducted by my Muslim colleagues at the office. I was open to all religious faiths. I did not make any distinction between them.
I loved listening to stories back then as a child. Growing up, I began to read these stories. Soon I took up reading about culture and tradition. Then I ventured to read about religion. When an officer in the department, Mr. Segaran, resigned in 1994 to join Paramahansa Yogananda's Ranchi ashram in India, he passed me Paramahansa's book, "Autobiography of a Yogi". I began to read about men who became gods that day. I came to know them as gurus. Agathiyar decided to have me drop in on my very first guru in the physical form, Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai, in 2003. In 2005, he sent Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal to our shores and had me drop in on him. These were the turning points in my life. And fate has me write and share about them through this blog.
PHASE 2 - THE PRACTICE
Kriyai, Yogam & Gnanam
If my parents brought me to Sariyai and Bakti and temple worship, when Tavayogi stepped on our soil, he fast-tracked us, telling us to come to Gnanam. But to arrive there, we had to go through the other two phases: Kriyai and Yogam. He came to personally take us through worship and rituals in 2005, bridging both worlds - ours and the Siddhas' - and gave us the practice of Pranayama and Asanas in 2007 that bridge both the body and the breath, the mind and consciousness. The Siddhas then came through the Nadi readings, expounding the greatness of rituals, such as Abhisegam or libation and Puja, and the Homam. Agathiyar casually mentioned that they were amazed to see the Kundalini rise in me in my Nadi reading later on 13.10.2007,
I had, on many occasions, felt a sudden energy come within that brought me to tears and to cry out loud or laugh loudly. Agathiyar, on 23.11.2007, explained that the transmission and the dawn of Gnanam took place during these sacred moments.
The Siddhas had given hints on the changes that would come my way.
On 17.2.2007, Changes in speech, walk, and dressing; on 4.3.2007, Changes in the voice and clarity, youth, and aura; On 10.3.2007, build-up of the internal heat due to these Tapas and practices;
On 18.5.2008, Patanjali said that since the many practices taught and shown and put into practice shall bring on excessive heat within, hence there was the need to take sattvic food that cools the body.
and he lists what to do:
and in revealing his secret to Yoga, he said that an enhanced aura and Chakras resulted in the rise of the Kundalini. He said that the colors of the aura will accentuate further as a result of the Kundalini rising; the Chakras would flourish. This is the second instance the Kundalini is mentioned too.
and on 30.9.2008, Agathiyar surprised me by saying that the light from the third eye had emerged in me,
followed by 8.12.2008, when Agathiyar threw in another surprise, saying that due to my Vaasi practice or Pranayama, the Suzhimunai and the crown at the top of my head had opened. He assured me that he would draw all the seven veils aside and have me see the Jothi. He said that he would pave the way to reach the state of fulfillment and completeness that comes with the state of Soruba Nilai.
and on 27.8.2009, gives further practice known as Tava Sukmam and spelled out the practice, mentioning that they were sharing the practices that the Siddhas did,
and on 26.12.2009, Agathiyar tells me that Gnanam has dawned on me. Again, he says that the crown of my head has opened. He says that the third eye shall shine. He says that he wanted to gift me treasures and adds that Tavayogi shall grant me the rest.
and on 12.7.2010, he said I saw Sadashiva,
And when Agathiyar again on 9.8.2010, revealed that the heat from the Tapas or Gnana Kanal had risen,
On 17.10.2010, I was told to see a Siddha physician who could restore my condition, resulting from having attained the benefits of Hatha Yoga from the many Tapas and Pujas I did.
I started my physiotherapy session concurrently on 12.5.2011 at the Government Clinic.
Believe me, I sincerely did not know what they were talking about. Neither did I understand what was said to be taking place. The changes only became obvious much later as I continued on the road. They had me realize the magnitude and majesty of the body and mind that are capable of executing any venture in their prime years. They gave me herbal preparations to consume to keep the Doshas balanced for perfect health and being. Equally, they brought me to experience the Uyir, or breath, which we often take for granted through the practice of Pranayama. The volume of Prana intake increased manifold. It came in through the breath; through the intake of food; when I took a dip in the river and sea or had a bath at home; and through the sun's rays and in the outdoors.
Agathiyar, in the Nadi reading on 9.8.2011, addressed my issue. I had no idea the pain and discomfort that I went through for 2 1/2 years were attributed to the opening of the Muladhara and the subsequent rise in the heat due to my Tapas, until Agathiyar revealed it on 26.11. 2011. Then Agathiyar had to halt my practice, giving the body some time to heal from the shock of the opening of the Muladhara as a result of these practices. Agathiyar revealed that the Muladhara chakra had gained intense heat, hence shutting my systems down. To add to it, my three Doshas were off balance, or rather not in the ratio that sustains good health. He classified my agony as "Paareesa Peedai", which was external and what I came to know from the net as "superficial, existing or occurring at or on the surface and appearing to be true or real only until examined more closely." He gave me the solution in the form of several Siddha herbs and prayers. He asked that I stop all forms of Tapas and Yoga practices for the time being and that I carry out the Sun salutation and worship Lord Muruga to bring relief.
Though it was neither a pleasant nor a delightful encounter or experience, when Agathiyar told me that this too was bliss, I understood that he wanted us not to look at pain and discomfort indifferently. Amidst the pain and suffering, he did acknowledge the state I was in as a blissful state. The graceful light of Arutjothi had increased in its intensity, he said. He added that by taking the Siddha path, one reaches Siddhantam; one gains higher states.
16.1.2011, Agathiyar, who continued to monitor my situation, assured me that all shall be fine. He asked me to continue taking the prescription given earlier for another half a Mandalam, that is, 24 days.
On 15.2.2012, a miracle took place. The physiotherapist, out of the blue, asked me to show her the exercises she had taught me and that I had put into practice at home the past seven months. As I moved into position and as I began to raise my right leg behind me and stretch my back, something gave way, like a latch released, a dam burst, a knot was untied or loosened. It brought instantaneous relief and joy to the extent that I shouted out and cried in joy. The excruciating pain left magically and mysteriously just as it had come upon me.
I went to work, ran errands, shopped for items, and sat long at my home puja joyfully. I traveled to Kallar again, on my second visit, with my family the following year. En route, we stopped at several temples. We went boating in Ooty. We climbed the small hillock behind Tavayogi's ashram, where we paid our homage to Agathiyar in the form of a granite statue. We took a ride in the classic means of transport, the Parisal, or coracle, over the river Kaveri, to pray to Lord Shiva, Lord Muruga, and Agathiyar at the Nattadreeswar temple that stood upon a boulder in the middle of the river. We climbed the flight of stairs to the Thayumanavar Temple and the Uchipillaiyar Temple built on Rock Fort. But Agathiyar saw to it that I completed my eagerly awaited trip to India without pain and agony.
The years went by with the arrival of the team of youngsters at AVM upon our return home. Bringing youths to watch and participate in our family puja, and later bringing the Siddha puja into the corridors of the temples too, Agathiyar showed us the importance of carrying out these rituals. We saw Puja and charity being done regularly. Meanwhile, he had us engage in doing charity too, first in the children's homes and old folks' homes, and then bringing it to the homeless in the streets, and finally helping the poor and unfortunate by visiting their homes too. In doing so, they worked on our compassion and love.
On 15.2.2013, Agathiyar reiterated that my crown Chakra was open and I had gained Mukthi. He asked me to stop the search. He shall come for me, he said.
On 21.9.2014, Agathiyar spoke about the Chakras functioning perfectly. He repeated that the Suzhimunai was opened.
He asked that I write about the Siddha Marga, telling me that he would move me to write.
28.3.2015, Agathiyar told me I had gained his Jothi and had opened the crown chakra. He said my home, which was his Vanam, or Garden, has transited into Gnanakottam. Those arriving at my home shall attain the state of Gnanam, he adds. He shall grant his grace here. They shall receive his Arul, Tavam, and Aasi. He says again that he has opened the crown in me.
He thanked me for bringing others into the path through my writings.
On 28.8.2015, Agathiyar mentioned further changes that had taken place within me, though it was all news to me. He said that his Jothi has expanded in me and the Suzhimunai had opened.
He said my writings have reached many.
I could continue my Puja and participate in all the charitable programs laid out by the youths full-time beginning on 1.1.2016, as I retired that year.
If I had made sure that I was in top form before going on my maiden pilgrimage to India in 2003, 2005, and later in 2013, Agathiyar made sure that I was well enough to travel to India to participate in the inauguration of Tavayogi's new ashram with the rest of the AVM family members in December of 2016 again. He made sure I could keep up with the youths traveling with me to all the temples en route to Kallar Ashram. Again, we traveled in the Parisal, crossing the river Kaveri to the Nattadreeswar temple. He made sure I could sit for the duration, reciting the songs of praise to the Siddhas at the Yagam that was lit on the Ashram grounds. He made sure that I could climb the 2000 steps up Othimalai and pay my homage and respect to Othiappar.
When my family kept reminding me that I was no longer a youth and had to behave according to my age, Agathiyar came in the Nadi reading on 18.11.2017 and threw in a punch line referring to my age and appreciating my vigor in participating with the youngsters in these trips and in doing charity and service. That was a boost to my spirit. Agathiyar said I was instrumental in some way in the change others went through. He wanted me to maintain a low profile and remain out of the limelight, though.
Neither he nor Agathiyar abandoned me. When the pain came back with the same intensity as originally, when a sneeze came over me as I was crossing a street, Agathiyar, in the Nadi reading on 7.10.2018, said that my breath was dislodged and blocked. It happened in my sleep, he said. In explaining to me the circumstances as to why it kept recurring, he told me it was a case of the Vasi, or the breath that went awry. He gave me five herbal preparations to consume and ointments to apply externally. By his grace, this reading was recorded and forwarded to me without the need for me to be present before the Nadi reader.
As it was extremely intense, Lord Muruga came immediately through a Nadi reading the following day, on 8.10.2018, and at the same time through a devotee to heal me. The equally compassionate Lord Muruga brought a veteran Nadi reader over to my home, where he addressed us in the Nadi and came to treat me through a devotee concurrently and simultaneously! It was a marvel and something I think has never happened before in the history of Nadi reading or in the history of God speaking through others as Arul Vaakku. It was sheer amazement to see two age-old mystical traditions, the written word in the oracle or Nadi and the spoken word through a person, come together that evening to address my pain. Lord Muruga decided to end it once and for all by performing a miracle that day. He treated my causal body that carried the source of the pain by stroking my back with a bunch of peacock feathers that, to our amazement, a couple had, in a timely manner, passed on to us just days before. All who were gathered that day were asked to chant the Arutperunjhoti Mantra, where its emitting vibration created subtle waves and ripples in a glass of water that was given to me to drink. The pain subsided in the days to come.
This reminded me of my days as a kid when a neighbor who was a Chinese priest would beat himself with the blunt edge of a sword and chant aloud, before dipping a paintbrush into red ink and writing Chinese characters onto a strip of yellow rice paper, burning it, and collecting the ash in a glass of water, and giving it to me to drink each time I was ill and sick.
Lord Muruga said that age had caught up with me. My spine and hips were tense. The inner gel at these joints had dried up. This was the reason for the acute pain I was having. With some treatment done earlier, including Varma therapy that Balamurugan did on me, a quarter of the issue was overcome. He told me why I had to go through the suffering. It was to have me sit in one place and do Tapas.
Lord Murugan heaped praises on me for keeping a low profile yet spreading the wisdom of Agathiyar. He said that Agathiyar Vanam will take on a new name: Agathiyar Tapovanam.
The next day, 9.10.2018, Lord Muruga explained further in another devotee's Nadi reading what took place the night before.
"I did treat him yesterday. I have removed his pain. I came as his Jeeva and as the Jeeva Nool or Nadi and treated him. I spoke (through the Nadi) and came (through the devotee) at the same time. I removed his pain by stroking his body with the peacock feathers. He shall gain by sitting in meditation."
During this phase, Ramalinga Adigal often came through a devotee to link and connect us to the Prapanjam through the breath. He had us experience the Prapanjam. Unlike in the past, when it was available in some quantities, henceforth, every cell and pore of the body began to absorb the Prana. Agathiyar told us that "All things are only truly known when we connect with it." We understand the state of Agathiyar now when he says that the Prapanjam is in him and he is in the Prapanjam. Agathiyar tells us that the power of the Prapanjam is limitless.
After some seventeen years of austerities or Tavam and some nine years of Aram or doing charity, Agathiyar had us wind up in all the activities related to it in 2019. He brought us from learning the external traits in doing rituals and conducting puja and participating in the joy of giving and doing charity, to going within. The changes turned out to be pretty obvious in the days to come. Having me sleep in his puja room, I got up to go to the loo in the middle of the night. I collapsed upon getting up. I picked myself up and walked into the living room where I collapsed again. I picked myself up and walked the flight of stairs and collapsed on the landing just outside the bathroom. I began to slither like a snake. Though in pain, I was laughing away too, as it was equally blissful, as Agathiyar pointed out later on 5.9.2019. Agathiyar came to reveal the reason I fell and lay in front of my bathroom door, crawling or slithering in pain like a snake. Agathiyar said the Kundalini had arisen and had churned up the heat and fire within. He described the slithering as a sign of Kundalini moving. He too acknowledged that it was the bliss of bliss.
When he mentioned further that the third eye and the crown had opened, and I was partaking of the ambrosia within, it was indeed news to me. I was baffled, as I saw nothing to that effect.
Ramalinga Adigal came on 29.11.2019 and hugged those gathered, inviting us to invite the Light within. "Arutperunjothi has taken possession of you. Open up your Atma. Open up your heart to receive him. The Jothi shall come within and embed in you. We are slaves to this Jothi. I am a slave too."
On 24.12.2019, Agathiyar, in this final Nadi reading for me, before the Nadi readers packed their bags and left for India in the wake of the pandemic, revealed what Gnanam was. It was the art of transforming the Asudha Degam into a Sudha Degam and later into the Pranava Degam and finally into the Oli Degam. For this to take place, observe the breath, he said. I needed to know the Tattvas too, he added. Gnanam then is in knowing this art and making the transformation happen.
In achieving Sudha Degam or Anbu Uru, the body of love, it gives rise to the experience known as Uyir Anubhavam. Next, in achieving the Pranava Degam or Arul Uru, the body of grace, it gives rise to Arul Anubhavam. Then one achieves the body of Bliss or Gnana Degam or Inba Uru that gives rise to the experience and realization of God Supreme or Siva Anubhavam. Eventually one attains Oli Degam.
On 30.1.2020, in the absence of Nadi readings, Agathiyar surprised us by coming through a devotee. Agathiyar said I had stagnated in worldly affairs. He continued,
"You cannot possibly break the shackle alone. Hence, follow the practices that I am to give you." He asked me to restart the Vaasi, or breathing practice learned from Tavayogi, which he had asked me to discontinue at the peak of my back pain in 2011. He said, "All this while you saw to your needs in this world. Now you shall undertake an internal journey. This will reveal your purpose in taking birth. I shall relate what needs to be done to realize your purpose in coming here. Currently, your breath is at the Svadhishthana. It is about time it opened up. This is the right time to start this practice. Sit before me and meditate. During this moment, carry out the cleansing breath as taught by your guru. Just the important ones. You shall sense a coolness within. Remain silent in these moments. Focus on your breath. Your breath shall touch the Suzhimunai and swirl. Travel along your seven chakras. That journey shall awaken your chakras. After traversing these chakras, when it touches the seventh, you shall know your purpose here."
He told me that I shall come to know what is right and what went wrong. Both shall be lessons I learn. Whatever is initiated immediately and promptly shall bring success, he added.
Contrary to the hype that surrounds raising the Kundalini to gain powers or control or Siddhis, I came to understand that it was to lead us to Gnanam, or divine wisdom. Agathiyar reveals that "All this while you have gained external knowledge or Ulaga Gnanam. Now you shall gain Gnanam that is going to serve you." Agathiyar reiterates that "When one starts the journey in going within, the result is Gnanam." Just as no one can predict the path the Kundalini takes, Agathiyar too says that Gnanam that it shall vary among people. "Hence I cannot say exactly what shall take place."
Ramalinga Adigal, coming through a devotee too, came on 14.5.2020 to explain further. "When you reach my state, energy will come within you without your knowledge. That is Suzhimunai."
He came again on 22.8.2020, telling me,
Use your breath to fan the Jothi. It shall travel through Sushumna and touch Ajna. Then the Jothi is seen. Carry out Nadi Sudhi to raise the Prana. Now it does not move in both nostrils. When it travels in both nostrils, you shall then rest in completeness or Sudha Paripuranam. Dhyana will be yours then. You are one with the Prana. Pay attention to it.
The changes in you are but discharges. It shall leave your body. Do not worry. What you are doing is Tavam. Agathiyan has accepted and received it. Hence bath his statue once a week and please him. We shall continue working on your insides and from within.
19.11.2020 Agathiyar, telling the others, that "He (me) shall share his experiences."
on 12.12.2020, told those gathered at AVM, "Read his writings. They are my thoughts. In the coming days I shall speak a lot about the Atma."
Though I was ignorant of the benefits that quietly and subtly arose within from my years of solitude as directed by Agathiyar, and partly because we were forced to stay indoors due to the pandemic, the years 2019 to 2022 were critical years of transformation in me and my surroundings. When he directed me to go within, I mistook it for meditation and became frustrated as it did not happen. I thought that those years were wasted staying indoors, trying to sit in meditation, which did not come easily for me. In asking us to go within, he had us gain the knowledge of something so close to us and internal - the Udal or Body, Uyir or Breath, and Atma or Soul.
PHASE 3 - LOOKING WITHIN
The Body, Breath & Soul
To further educate me on the trio, Body, Breath, and Soul, Agathiyar had Mahindren sit with paper and pen and take notes as he revealed how the basic elements were brought together to compose this material body. Though Agathiyar's memo to us was short and brief, it took me seven posts to place what he had said of the Udal, Uyir, and Atma into its correct perspective, as Agathiyar later came to endorse as right.
"I had revealed to you about the Udal, Uyir, and Atma. I am proud that you have understood it correctly."
Later, Agathiyar and Ramalinga Adigal asked that I reread Tavayogi's "Andamum Pindamum" to understand the Tatvas and how it is formed and functions.
As the Uyir is known through the Udal and vice versa, we realize the importance of the Udal and begin to treasure it. But the reason we cannot identify the Atma is that it is subtle in nature, as opposed to the gross nature of the Udal that is known through the senses and the Uyir that is known when awareness is brought to the breath. When we are caught in the grip of Maya, or illusion in this world, we never realize the existence of the Atma. As Agathiyar says, Tavayogi also states in his "Atma Thattuvam" that the Atma is a tool that binds both the Uyir and Udal.
The Atma, which is supposed to take hold of the Udal and Uyir, controlling them, is sadly driven into the shadows as we exhibit ego and the "I" in us takes the upper hand. It is only when we surrender the "I" that the Atma returns to reign. Its reign, of course, would then be in line with the divine as opposed to that of the "I" that exercises its superiority. When the Atma comes back to regain control of the Udal and Uyir, it brings on a massive transformation within the body, often effortlessly, besides bringing on the whole of Prapanjam within too.
PHASE 4 - THE RESULTS
On 22.8.2022, the blessed day that Agathiyar spoke about earlier on 30.1.2020, I felt an "explosion of energy" in my belly as I woke up at 6:40 a.m. and stretched myself in bed. I felt a pull of a nerve and a tug right below the navel. It brought on a swirling sensation followed by a chill. My whole body became numb right to the tips of my fingers and toes. I felt nauseous and had the urge to pee and urinate. Rising from bed, I collapsed twice on the way to the toilet, picking myself up each time. I was alone then, while my daughter was in her room asleep. Back from the toilet, all was fine. A blissful feeling came over me. Narrating this to my daughter, the next day she called for her mother, who arrived from our grandchildren's home to accompany me.
The next day, Tuesday 23.8.2022, I woke up at 7.20 a.m. to go to the loo, but I could not pee. I fell again. I picked myself up and climbed onto the bed as my wife watched without any inkling of what was going on. Agathiyar had told her in the past to just observe and watch. My body became numb from the shoulders down. I lay like a dead log on my bed. Although I could not move even an inch of my torso, I was able to see, hear, and talk, and was aware of what was happening to me. I had no fear or anxiety. I asked myself if this was what "to be dead" was. Soon the experience went away.
Seeking answers to what had taken place, Agathiyar cleared the air later. He told me not to worry and said that "the stagnated water" was released.
Nevertheless, he gives a warning to all of us. When the chakras are activated late in life, it would have some adverse effects on our bodies. When the heat of Tapas increases in our body, blood flow will be less, bringing on numbness. This would result in urinary and excretion problems. He asked that I seek allopathic medicine.
That is when Agathiyar, besides giving me strength and courage, asked that I share my experiences with readers. He asked me to stop writing about my external journey that began in 2002, but instead share the changes and transformations that had been taking place within, beginning in 2007 and peaking in 2022, with readers keen to become Light. I was delighted to know that he was now working on me too. I knew then that I was on the right track. But I was already sixty-two back then. We are told again and again that we need to achieve the state before reaching our sixties. Beyond that, it would be an uphill task for the material body to be transformed into light particles.
He said,
Do not be afraid of death. It is but another door to another journey. One who invites death is a Siddha.
The swirling sensation felt for several weeks in the abdomen just below my navel was regularly felt in the crown of my head, but with a lesser intensity in the days to come. I guess this is what Agathiyar meant when he said I shall feel a magnetic wave arise. A couple of days later, it seemed more like a flowering of petals and was blissful. A chilliness and swirling that was akin to a flowering went on irrespective of my daily activities. It was more intense each time I brought my attention to it. Following the flowering in the crown that went on on its own, I asked Agathiyar what I should do further. His reply was to do nothing and that it shall do its work. Since Agathiyar said the energies will do the rest, we have basically become a dynamo. The breath that is akin to the river turns the turbine machine in our case, the chakras, to produce electricity and energy. A clear nostril is a highway for these energies to hitch on the breath and make their way swiftly to the depot at the top of the head. The body is now a magnet that is attracting the effulgence from beyond. Just as we understand that there is a small amount of electricity that reaches out to it from the earth towards the skies during a thunderstorm, similarly, a small amount of electricity in us meets the larger expanse that is God.
Agathiyar allayed my fear, telling me,
You shall witness many changes taking place within you. Do not fear. Due to the activation of the chakras, your body shall emit a foul smell. You shall have constipation. You shall urinate often. Take lots of warm water. The "Agathiyar Kuzhambu" you took did help in expelling the three Doshas. But there is still more filth that shall be expelled in due time. Carry out the said practice.
If having me do nothing, he cleared my mind; Agathiyar had me consume his "Agathiyar Kuzhambu," a herbal preparation earlier that was made available by his devotee and Siddha physician J.Ariwananthen Aiya, to cleanse the filth and trash I carried in my internals.
While celebrating Navarathri in 2022, at the home of a senior couple, Ramalinga Adigal came through a devotee and brought down heaven and its energies and passed them on to all gathered through a devotee. I felt my body rise and float as others held on to me. A child devotee told the host that she saw a blue halo instead of me.
Looking up on it, I learned that the Blue light is said to be a simmering mass of Consciousness. Swami Muktananda, in describing his experience, writes in his book "Kundalini - The Secret of Life, a Siddha Yoga Publication, published by the SYDA foundation, 1994, that "One day as my meditation was approaching its culmination, the Blue Pearl began to expand, until it was the size of a human being. The form of this Being was not made of flesh but of shimmering blue light, the blue light of Consciousness."
Reaching this point of the journey itself was a great blessing for me, who was never ambitious both materially and spiritually. How did the grace fall on me? Was it because I had listened to them?
It all begins with knowing the Siddhas and traveling to their places and abodes, witnessing the miracles, entering the states of bliss, and not forgetting to bring back these feelings and work on them further, nurturing these experiences, and keeping the flame alive and burning by nurturing it in our homes and our hearts. Then Agathiyar says that the Siddha shall come down. If we had gone looking for them earlier, now they come down from their abode into our homes and hearts and lives.
Then Balamurugan initiated the move by inviting Agathiyar over to his newly rented home after the pandemic. As this was followed by others, Agathiyar had me stop bringing him over. Then, after a long break, Agathiyar indicated his intent to move out of my home, which came to be known as Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM), and stated his wish to stay in a handful - to be specific, six devotees' homes for a month each- before returning home to AVM for the Guru Purnima prayers on 21.7.2024. I put out the notice for takers, and the slots were taken up within days. I realized only later that, just as Agathiyar had tested me to see if I was willing to let go of his statue, it was a test for these selected few to see if they would let go of their hold on idol worship too. They each hosted the monthly Pornami puja on 24.2.2024 / 24.3.2024 / 23.4.2024 / 23.5.2024 and 21.6.2024 before sending him off to grace the home of another devotee on 4.7.2024. After some six months, he told the host that he was going to move out on two occasions. But as the couple and their family remained silent, not giving their consent, Agathiyar decided to give them some more time; during which time, the host began to strengthen his hold by purchasing a bronze statue of Lobama too, and carrying out their ThiruKalyanam, or Holy Matrimony. When Agathiyar told them he was leaving, giving them no option this time around, the host had to submit to his wishes.
The idol is only required for as long as we are ignorant of the true nature of the divine that is all around us and, most importantly, in us, and not only in statues. Once we have understood, it is no longer necessary. We are to drop all our coverings and return to the source naked, just as we came naked. In our chase to accumulate and hoard things and possessions, we are continuously reminded to shed them all. The final breaking point comes when eventually we shed this very body of meat, breaking it down into the very components and elements and building blocks that came together to take this form, not as in dying and decomposing in the ground, but while living in flesh and blood.
The soul enlightens us of its inherent nature. We know our true potential and state and take the dive. When we follow their directives or those of the soul, they shall walk with us, holding our hands. Just as Tavayogi told me, "Only now the true journey begins, my son," as we left for the caves and the jungles to explore the Siddhas, now another journey begins: that of exploring within us. This travel shall not be that of an external journey but of an internal journey. Yoga is the key to this travel within.
From Sariyai to Kriyai, they now teach us Yogam. The journey within begins by initially requiring our efforts, but soon the energies inherent in us will take the reins and lead us on. All we need to do is watch, as Agathiyar told me. We shall stand witness to many unexplained mysteries and happenings. We shall encounter and see many things. It would be puzzling to us. It would be new to us too. Continuing this internal journey, we shall arrive at each Chakra and eventually see the cosmic dance of Thillai in Sahasrara, says Agathiyar. A 1000-petaled flower will keep on opening up continuously, as in the ripple in the waters. Arutjothi will come to reside here. The divine energy and its effulgence enter within. Just as the Kundalini, upon awakening and making its way up, traverses each Chakra, purifying them, this effulgence travels down a similar and known path and brings on the shine and luminosity in these Chakras. Jothi Darisanam, or Vision of the Light, as Supramania Swami told me he saw days before his Samadhi, takes place when one sees the Light or Effulgence. The body takes on the same. Intense surges of energy that came to be felt within as a result of Pranayama that brought on excessive Prana within lead to intense vibrations felt as the Higher energies come within, as the vessel is purified by doing Pranayama. The vessel is then connected to the very source of this Prana, the Prapanjam. Electrical surges are felt as we connect with nature around us, the soul in those who give eye contact, give a smile, etc. This vibration then extends beyond the body in ripples extending far and wide. We then connect with other power or energy sources some distance away, staying where we are. We begin to emit these energies that are felt by those tuned to receive them. Eventually we attain the state of a Jeeva Mukta, one who has attained Mukti or Salvation while living in the flesh. Henceforth, as Agathiyar proclaims, "You are me, and I am you"; we are no different from Agathiyar, and Agathiyar is no different from us.
Having tested me to see if I could let go of my attachment to his bronze statue, Agathiyar soon had me let go of him as well, asking, "How are we to become One?"
This is the path to becoming Light that Agathiyar extolled in a memo he had me transcribe on the eve of Guru Purnima of 2024, which I read out to the attendees the next day and which I had shared on this blog too. In bringing us his Guru Purnima message, Agathiyar paved the path for us to explore and return to him. He simplified the journey in terms that we could grasp and travel along.
Further to this, when Agathiyar came around asking each of us gathered at AVM what we wanted, and as I had nothing to ask, but since he stood waiting, I thought taking further births and coming back to serve him would be the thing to ask. When he asked me if that was what I desired, I knew at that moment that this was not the ultimate asking.
In my conversation with Mahindren over the phone later, if one should ask for Gnanam, as Tavayogi often reminded us, Agathiyar came to explain that it was not gifted, but we had to work towards it, going within, working on our chakras, and finally, not arriving at being a Gnani or wise one as yet, but just coming to know what Gnanam was.
Later he tells me that to be in his fold, or Tirukuttam, was the ideal thing to ask. Today we understand that Ramalinga Adigal is with him, and so is Tavayogi, doing Agathiyar's work in their realm, while Shirdi Sai is with Lord Muruga. Yogi Ramsuratkumar said at his deathbed that he could do a better job in the subtle realm. All these great saints returned to their fold.
In asking us who Agathiyar was, and replying to his own question, saying that we all are him, we know that he does not sit as a master or Lord presiding over his subjects, dictating and ruling and expecting us to serve him. He wants us all to become him. When Agathiyar said that we all are him, he is implying, as Buddha did, that we are all Buddhas. It is just that we are not aware of our present state, he says further. In telling me that we had known each other for ages, he had stood by in this entire journey of self-discovery, arriving a step closer by taking each step, or rather, taking each birth. Agathiyar then revealed the journey further: the need to discover the Self or Atma, come to know our Soul, or Atma, which is our inner Guru, arriving at Gnanam for ourselves, gained after having us learn from the many experiences during this internal journey, and return to his state, the state of a Siddha, and becoming him, and eventually Sivam, the source. In distinguishing himself as the Light, Jothi, or flame among many other forms, he tells us that we are alive due to his presence in us as the fire, flame, heat, and warmth in us, giving life, mobility, and sustenance, too. In proclaiming himself as Esan or Sivam residing in us, he asserts himself as the indwelling Lord and Param(Atma).
In running through the advice and practices given to me, and the experiences that came about, and making them public, I need to caution readers to have their guru within reach or available to clear the air if and when things go wrong. I was blessed to have Agathiyar and the Siddhas initially guiding me through the Nadi and, in the absence of the Nadi readers, coming through devotees. We need their grace, or Arul, besides our own initial efforts. Tavayogi tells us that our efforts are only up to the 2nd chakra. We need their grace to progress further. With their grace, we drop our efforts and everything happens of its own accord. After Tavayogi's demise, Agathiyar surprised me by saying that my gurus should have come to my assistance, but as they were engaged in his work, they had asked Agathiyar to come to our need.
Agathiyar continued,
If going within is difficult, think of it as a practice for you. Going within will bring you to merge with the Prapanjam. There is no easy way. What you go through is very much easier and milder than what I went through.
Agathiyar gave me confidence, saying he had already simplified matters, methods, and techniques, something that Tavayogi too must have known and observed, for he once quiped, "How is it that you have arrived easily, son, while we had to battle the odds?"
Going by Tavayogi's stance on these matters, he chose not to speak about them. Even when a news channel interviewed him and asked him how he came to gain the "power" or "Sakti" to read the Jeeva Nadi that we know to be a blank piece of palm leaf, he stopped short of saying that "While I was in the caves... I should not say... that someone gave me...." He refused to reveal further.
But since Agathiyar had asked that I share my experiences relating to the bodily changes taking place in me, I began to post them without holding anything back.
If the journey seems rosy and sweet, there were times when we had brickbats thrown at us, not to hurt us but to awaken us from the lure and deep sleep of Maya that veils all things. The first mention of the word Maya was by Tavayogi, who took me to task, would you believe it, for thanking him for his visit to my home for the first time in 2005.
I was elated to have him grace my home. While sending him back, I was telling him, or rather, pouring my heart out, that he was the very first and only guru to visit my home and that I was overjoyed to receive him. He turned to me and said, "You are living in Maya. You think I have something hidden beneath my saffron robes. I am a nobody. I am not a holy man (Samy) but a fraud (Asamy). Do not worship me. Worship that light within you. I call him Agathiyar." I was devastated and remained silent for the rest of our drive back to his lodge at a local Peedham.
Bhrigu forewarned me on 27.1.2007 that the Siddhas would "play" their games. Shortly after Bhrigu came, Kagabujandhar came to reveal that I shall not understand the world, not at that moment at least.
On 29.6.2020, Lord Shiva, who was all praise for us, switched tones and took all those gathered to task for remaining in the clutches of Maya, or illusion. He asked them to put more effort into their Yoga practices, which Agathiyar had earlier asked that I show Mahindren and had Mahindren show the rest. He asked them to do it before the guru (Agathiyar).
In 2024, Lord Muruga came to warn me of the divine play that Lord Siva and Agathiyar were playing with Lord Indran as an accomplice. Ironically, Agathiyar sent me for a Nadi reading and revealed the extent of the grip of Maya in all things material and spiritual. The revelation was earth-shattering. But I am glad that they gave me those experiences too, for now I could see through the veil of Maya and stay clear of its clutches.
All of creation is tainted by Maya or impurities. One has to see through this veil and be one with existence before the point of creation. Thus, all names and forms drop. Time and space drop. Acts of creation, sustenance, and eradication stop. What is present is pure awareness and silence in the moment.
They have made me drop my reliance on others for my upliftment, for whatever is a product of, or comes from, this worldly existence is a product of Maya. All that is a product of the Tattvas is false, as it only applies to this worldly existence. I had to look up towards the skies, the Prapanjam, for the truth on existence. The Soul or Atma is the link henceforth.
PHASE 5 - MAKING PEACE
When Agathiyar then asks us through the written memo why it is that we do not realize or feel him, he had the answer for that too. It is because we have not attained the state of preparedness or readiness to realize him, he said. Similarly, if we are as close as the nail and flesh, when I was moved to tears seeing others suffer, I was moved to ask, why does he just watch his devotees and children suffer? When I saw people around me suffering as a bachelor in the eighties and began to question it, I was asked to keep my questions to a later date by Lord Siva coming in a dream. I soon learned the reasons for their sufferings were due to their past Karma, when Agathiyar spoke about my Karma too in my Nadi reading some fourteen years later. Though I saw many seek the Nadi and carry our remedies, these remedies did not move the mountain of troubles they had. I then took it that maybe they came to the Siddhas just as we go to the doctors for outpatient treatment, which at times does not give the expected results either unless one is warded and observed, and numerous tests are done and taken to arrive at the root of the cause. And so I believed that one has to tread the path of the Siddhas and not remain a mere observer. But when many who took up the worship of the Siddhas, and came as close as the nail and flesh, too faced continuous troubles, I was puzzled. Why are not the Siddhas lending a hand in moving the mountain for them? Borrowing from the thoughts and philosophies of the Gnanis, we are told that it is all ordained, fated, and destined, and one is asked to accept it all in good faith. If all is ordained and charted, why give us false hope that prayers can do miracles? Where is this play by the divine leading us? When I came through one full cycle and went back to where I started - questioning- Mahindren, who visited me last evening, said jokingly that I would have to wait for Lord Siva to come again in my dream and have me drop these questions for a later date, as he did in 1988. But if he were to give me the answer after some 14 years this time around too, as he did before, I am afraid I do not have that much time, as I am already 67 this year. He has to answer me fast. And he sure did answer me immediately after that night, through a video clip from the film, "Charukesi". This play is beautifully described by "God" in coming to a classical singer, bringing him relief from his grief by equating us with a Banana Bajji (Watch from 12.06 mins)

Indeed, we are so cooked up in these worldly affairs, either basking in the sun, getting a suntan, or cooked over the fire, or boiled in a pan - either happy or suffering or in pain. Otherwise, we are preoccupied with our desires or wants, or caught or tangled in the web of our own making. Battered and brawled over, torn and shredded, we step outside to find some time to recover.
Agathiyar says that once our soul attains this preparedness, the soul either brings us to a guru in the physical form or turns guru and leads us on. The soul comes to show us the way out of this mess that we created. It charts and paves the path henceforth. Of course, Agathiyar would only show the path he had traveled to attain his present state.
Agathiyar's final dictate to me was in line with what he had mentioned way back on 25.4.2008, "Keep quiet, and you shall be at peace." Today I am left alone, all to myself, sitting in silence, doing nothing besides the daily morning and evening walks and the family conversations, or when someone visits us, and running around to do some chores, and running after my grandchildren when they visit us or we visit them, and, of course, writing this blog. Besides writing this blog, watching some videos and movies, and listening to some songs, I end up "Doing Nothing" most of the time. This is how time flies for me these days. Just as the calling came, to come to his path through my very first Nadi reading in 2002, I await the day the calling comes to leave and follow Agathiyar to his realm, just as he took both Supramania Swami and Tavayogi with him.
