WHEN TWO MEDIUMS COME TOGETHER

I had always stayed away from the worship of ancestral gods, or Kula Deivam, the lineage of souls who took care of the souls who came later, the village deities, or Yellai Deivam, who took care of the community and society living in a place, and the guardian angels, or Kaval Deivam, who stood guard over the individual soul, though I would head for the dining room to join the feast that always follows. I stayed away because of the manner in which these deities come on within devotees that frightened me off as a kid. Growing up as a kid, I used to watch many prayers conducted at small shrines in many individuals' homes where the deities come down and bless their devotees, oblige them by fulfilling their requests, and at other times, take the whip if they are angered. Though I had belief and respect in them, I always told them to let us be in our places and not cross paths. All these changed when I came to the Siddha path. My perspective of these deities has changed from one of fear to one of inclusiveness. Agathiyar brought them into my world and brought me to a new understanding. Agathiyar had me receive them in my home, telling me that they, too, were his creation. Soon these deities arrived and showed their presence during the many Puja we carry out for the Siddhas. Agathiyar often summoned them to attend to certain tasks that eased the pain and suffering of his devotees.

As a bachelor, a colleague who played an important role in an estate temple, surprised me by saying that Lord Muruga does come too, through devotees, besides the Goddesses Mariamma and Kali. I told him to give me a tinkle if he does come, as he is said to be kind and gentle with his devotees. But I never had an opportunity back then. Beginning in 2018, though, when I had the acquaintance of veteran Nadi reader Taranibalan Aiya, Lord Muruga came in the Nadi readings. The highlight of these rare and far-apart readings was when Taranibalan Aiya told the host who accommodated him during his stay in Malaysia that if permitted, he would bring the Nadi and have it read at my home, the reason being I was in pain and immobilised for some time due to the internal transformations taking place, resulting in the activation of energies and vice versa. To say, Lord Muruga came, he saw, and he conquered, or rather brought instantaneous relief, and cured my back pain eventually. What surprised me was that if I had previously seen the deities often tagged as lesser deities parading through devotees, hearing the problems of their subjects till then, and I had also listened to Agathiyar and the other Siddhas patiently go through reading out the Nadi since 2002, giving me guidance, but that day both mediums worked in tally and came together in a marvelous way and manner. As Taranibalan Aiya read the Nadi, work was going on in me with Lord Muruga coming through a devotee. How does one explain all these?
