THE MANY MANIFESTATIONS OF AGATHIYAR

We are addicted to coffee and tea. We are addicted to liquor. We are addicted to cigarettes. We are addicted to drugs. We are addicted to sex. We are addicted to so many things that start off as something that we try but eventually, it takes hold of us and becomes habitual and our identity. But no one admits that he is addicted to God. That he cannot live without God.

Indeed we cannot live without God. Agathiyar was introduced to us as God by Tavayogi when I met him in Malaysia and as the mantra "Arul Gnana Jothiye, Agathin Jothi. Taniperungkadavule Agatheesar Aavaar" during my first initiation later that evening. But Agathiyar did not remain as God forever. Arriving at his Ashram, he tells me the next day during his morning walk that Agathiyar came to him with a message. When I asked how with bewilderment he answered as the Jothi or Light. Later when he spoke about the statue of Agathiyar that he had placed in the Kallar hills which he had some boys bring us to, he told me that that was the spot where Agathiyar came to him as Light. Now Agathiyar was Light. Traveling with him into the jungles he pointed out to the scents and aroma in the air telling me that the Siddhas were ushering us and looked up towards the skies telling me that the Siddhas were showering us with flower petals. Now Agathiyar and the Siddhas were shown to be in nature and as nature. Stepping down from the steps of the Nattadresswar temple Tavayogi turned to me and said Siva and Agathiyar were one. Now Agathiyar was Lord Siva. Giving me my third initiation before I left his ashram for Malaysia, he told me that Vaasi, or the breath was God. Agathiyar was now the breath.

Then when we began to worship Agathiyar he who was God to us, became a father and a guru. Later he became a companion and now is one in the family. He dines with us. He sleeps with us. He speaks to us. He cries with us. he laughs with us. He is in our breath and every cell. Agathiyar spoke about the importance of the breath. Take heed of the breath and give it its due respect. For without the breath, where are we? Where is the "I"? Where is the ego? Where is the body? Where is the world?
