BACK ON SPIRITUAL YATRA AGAIN

Due to popular demand, AUM organised another round of tour for those who missed out the very first time and also to cater to the requests by many devotees to go again to these spiritual spots.

The first stop was the Sri Shiva Shanmugar Cave temple in Sungai Siput, Perak followed by the Sri Jaganatha Swamigal Sivalayam, at Tapah, Perak, with a shopping spree - purchasing the famed Tambun pomelos, and a refreshing bath at the Lata Kijang Waterfalls, in Chenderiang, Tapah, thrown into the tour.

A yagam was conducted at the Sri Jaganatha Swamigal Sivalayam by members of AVM and AUM, with the consent of the temple management and the blessings of Agathiyar, Sri Jaganatha Swamigal, Chitramuthu Adigal and the Siddhas.

THE COMPASSION OF THE MASTERS PART 3

According to the revelation of the origin of Agathiyar's temple by Dr VM Jayapalan, a morsel of food fed by the old man together with the chanting of Agathiyar's name removed all the karma and Asuric nature of the Asura king. That was in time immemorial.

Later the most compassionate masters and Siddhas approached Erai and requested that they be given the gift to help man out of his misery and to guide man back to Erai's abode. From Velayutham Karthikeyan Aiya's posting in his blog SITHTHAN ARUL at http://siththanarul.blogspot.com we understand the compassion of the Siddhas towards humanity. Karthiyen Aiya’s blog entry brings us back to time immemorial where the Siddhas, being compassionate and kind, put forward to the Erai, their wish to guide and save humanity. The Siddhas had wished that whoever seek them out for solutions to their problems and surrendered to them, he shall be pardoned for his past deeds, however bad and evil they may be. The Siddhas asked that man shall not be put through the trial and tribulations and made to face the consequences of his actions but instead will be saved. Erai granted the Siddhas their wish.

After the audience with Erai, the next instant the Siddhas wrote down; the reasons for each individual’s sufferings; listed out solutions and remedies; wrote down ways and means to overcome or end the seeker's problems, sins, diseases, illnesses and sufferings. They wrote them in Tamil prose on dried palm leaves. This writings came to be known as the Nadi. Hence the Nadi came to be written for every individual.

Agathiyar in my Nadi mentions that all karma dissolves by performing the yagam or homam. Besides speaking through the Nadi, the Siddhas have made many appearances to devotees, helping them in their times of need.

Simply said coming to the worship of Siddhas helps to break the chain of karma. The Gnana Thiravukol or key is provided by the Siddhas.

THE COMPASSION OF THE MASTERS PART 2

Just as Srinatha Raghavan wrote that "The Master healed the most hopeless cases with his most uncommon cures and methods, which was at best bizarre", as a toddler, I was taken to a Chinese medium, for a remedy and to safe me from death, by my parents.

The medium happened to be our neighbor too. My parents had lost two children due to a similar ailment and fearing for my life turned to the Gods for help. The medium only requested that they hand me over to "him". In desperation to save me, they agreed without a second thought. I recovered soon and so I had a God Father looking over me since then. I still remember vividly how I used to stand before the majestic altar at the medium's home where he would go into a trance and hit himself with the blunt edge of a sword. He would keep chanting sacred verses that I could not comprehend nor remember now. He would then write in red ink some Chinese characters vertically down on a yellow strip of rice paper with a brush. He would light up the paper and let the ash settle into a glass of water. I was given the "magic" portion to drink and I was cured - indeed an uncommon cure and method which was at its best - bizarre, to quote Sri.

This was how I was treated for all my ailments as a child.

It is said that Yogi Ramsuratkumar would light up a cigarette as he listened to the numerous problems of individuals who stood in line for a remedy and solution. Often the Yogi had mentioned to his close aids that by smoking the cigarette he was removing their karma.

Mata Devaki wrote in YOGI RAMSURATKUMAR, THE DIVINE BEGGAR, about this unique behavior of the Yogi.
Always Bhagawan's spiritual Ministry entailed smoking, a high focus ritual in his Father's work. He smoked away our bad karmas and the impurities of mind as much as he possibly could, in the circumstances. As soon as a person walked into his presence, he seemed to know everything about their past, present and future! Despite this, sometimes, he would want to know meticulously every detail of the devotee's problem as though his work depended completely on that! Other times, there would be no exchange of words at all. Yet the subtle work of helping the visitor would go on behind, sometimes even without the knowledge of the visitor. Sometimes, the gift of help entailed smoking the entire length of the cigarette one after another, in long succession, sometimes only a puff or two. Yet there would be neither any smell of the cigarette nor the smoke rings! But people would begin to feel an unwinding of their body and mind, an unlocking of their hearts. They would begin to feel at ease and at peace. In him, they found new depths of compassion, power and wisdom.
Before the divine madness took over, smoking was nauseating to him. But after he was commissioned with a mission, it became different. When a westerner asked him directly about smoking, Bhagawan said briefly, "After Swami Ramdas gave this madness, this beggar could not bear to be around people, because, their vibrations were too gross. Smoking helped." It enabled him to bring his mind down to earth and concentrate on worldly problems. To mitigate the vicious effects of chain smoking, he would keep a piece of dry gooseberry in the corner of his mouth. Dr. T.P. Meenakshisundaram, the former Vice-chancellor of Madurai University, a Tamil savant and a great linguist, describes beautifully, in one of his poems on Yogi Ramsuratkumar, "Your continual smoking of cigarettes one alter another in quick succession brings immediate relief from suffering to your devotees. Knowing this you rejoice over your work." But this ongoing ritual with cigarettes and gooseberry cost him dearly-not only to his health, he also lost all sense of taste!
That is the compassion of the masters, being indifferent to their physical health but forever seeking to remove others karma.

A story is narrated about how Agathiyar came to the aid of a kingdom undergoing famine. Dr VM Jayapalan of Bangalore received this story during his meditation. It was recorded and released in an audio CD entitled AGATHIYAR THIRUVILAIYADAL. I thank Dr V.M. Jayapalan for permission to use his talk from his audio CD AGATHIYAR THIRUVILAIYADAL.

I have edited and used portions of the narration. The translation of this narration is given below.

The first civilization at the beginning of the age of Kali or Kali Yuga started in a remote part of the world which was to become Kubera Nadu later, with the birth of a child who would later become its king. The Asuras were glad that one from their clan was chosen to take birth and lead the nation and celebrated the occasion. The child was born with Asuric nature (evil tendencies). He was blessed and groomed by the leader of the Asuras, Sukracharya. The kingdom was blessed with riches. There were temples and places of worship and the main deity was their Guru Sukracharya. Only his name was chanted and heard in this kingdom. Those who defied the rule were put to death.

But evil took shape in this nation and as a consequence the people had to face 12 years of drought and famine.

Then a man riddled with leprosy appears one day at the the king's palace asking to see the king. The minister meets him and tries to shoo him away but the old man is adamant that he meets the king and convey his message personally. Eventually he is lead to the king. The old man offers food to the king. The king ridicules him and drives him away. But the man before leaving, invites the king to his humble hut at the outer fringes of the kingdom, in event there arises a need for food.

Meanwhile the citizens of that kingdom slowly arrive at the old man's hut to partake the food that was surprisingly, readily available, in times of hardship and famine. The only condition the old man laid in return for food, was that they chant the name of Agathiyar. For each chant uttered, they were given a morsel of food.

After some time, mysteriously the king develops hunger pangs that no amount of food could satisfy. Surprisingly Sukracharya then directs his disciple, the king, to see the old man. Only the old man can satisfy his hunger, the king is told by his guru. At the same time news of the massive feeding going on at the old man's hut, reaches the king's ear and he decides to go in disguise and see for himself. He sees his subjects now chanting Agathiyar's name and not that of Sukracharya. As he sits amongst his subjects and watches (the first Kutu Prathanai or joint prayers ever conducted), he takes on the dreaded disease, leprosy. The old man however turns into a normal being, completely healed.

The old man now hale and healthy begins to feed the hideous king. The king too starts to sing the praise of Agathiyar. The disease together with his karma leaves his body and stands aloft and confronts him in an Asuric form. The king is surprised to see the amount of karma that he had been carrying, now mocking him in the Asuric form. With further chanting of Agathiyar's name, the king takes on a divine nature, shedding the Asuric tendencies and karma.

To show his gratitude to Agathiyar, the king builds the very first temple for Agathiyar in his kingdom, Kubera Naadu which later came to be known as Vada Naadu and in present times is known as Vedaranyam. Agathiyar granted moksha to the Asura king.

This temple at Agasthiyampalli, Vedaranyam today, which houses a granite statue of Agathiyar, is said to be the very first temple for Agathiyar built in this Kali Yuga. Over the years, a devotee of Agathiyar settled at this temple and cared for Agathiyar. The then Chozha king a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva tried to oust the Agathiyar's devotee from the temple after having debated with him on who was more superior, Lord Shiva or Agathiyar. To prove to the king that they were one, Lord Shiva and Agathiyar appeared together to the Chozha king at this temple of Agathiyar.

Agathiyar in the Nadi or Olai Suvadi - readings on palm leaves revealed by Siddhas - had asked me to go over to this temple at Agasthiyampalli. Agathiyar had promised to open his eyes here. Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal who took me there, showed me the miracle that Agathiyar promised. Agathiyar opened his left eye in the granite statue at the temple.

Later I was to have a replica of Agathiyar at Agasthiyampalli and worship in my home. After 4 years, Agathiyar opens both his eyes to bless us, this time in the presence of Jnana Jyothiamma.

THE COMPASSION OF THE MASTERS PART 1

Srinatha Raghavan posted a beautiful piece on fb yesterday.
The Master healed the most hopeless cases with his most uncommon cures and methods, which was at best bizarre.
He would tap his burnt cigarette ash on to the hands to the patient and tell them to to mix it in water and drink it all. Else he would take a leaf from the nearby plant and offer it to the suffering and that would miraculously heal. What ever he did, be it bizarre or otherwise, it worked.

Once a Leper came to the Master to plead his case. The followers of the Master were pretty orthodox, so they immediately took offence at the presence of the Leper and barred him from seeing the Master.
The Master was resting in his chamber when he heard the loud ruckus outside. They weren't allowing the pus ridden man inside for the fear of contamination even as he was pleading with all his heart.
The Master seeing it all from his own room, did something very strange. He picked up one of his leather slippers and threw it at the man. The Master's slippers found its mark, as it landed right on the Leper. The Master yelled from inside, "Take it and leave!"
The Leper was overjoyed at this unexpected turn of events and did as he was bade. He took the Master's slipper home and touched it every single day in deep love and devotion.
After a month a man with a shining countenance came to see the Master. He was stopped by the same followers to inquire who he was and what was the intent of his coming.
The Man with tears in his eyes said, "I have come to return the Master's slippers..."
Ah! Faith is the greatest Miracle and Faith in one's Master can even make the impossible possible.
I came across yet another wonderful episode that reveals the compassion of a master at http://community.sedona.com/letting-go-articles/4050-compassion-master.html
A senior student in a Zen monastery fell in love with a new female student in the community.
Less than a year later, this woman abruptly left the senior student for another man. The senior student was heart-broken and in terrible grief. The Zen master of the monastery came to know about this and for several months the master was sympathetic to his senior student's grief and ministered to his sorrow.
Then the master took a nine-month teaching trip to Europe and Korea. Upon his return, he spent time checking in with each of the community members.
The senior student painfully explained to the master that he was still mourning his loss. After listening to his student calmly, the master reached out into his bag and pulled out an exquisitely carved set of prayer beads as a gift. He carefully placed them in the delighted student's two hands, which he held with one of his own. Then in an instant the master raised his other hand and fiercely smacked the student across the face, shouting as he did so, "PUT HER DOWN!"
Then the master bowed and walked away. All the students standing there were in shock. But they all soon noticed that the senior student was dramatically changed by this blow.
He let go and moved on with his life.
It doesn't do you any good holding on to things which are completely beyond your control. The sooner you realize this and let go, the earlier you can get back on track as well as get on with life. Release daily. Release continuously.
This episode reminds me of how Supramania Swami brought a drastic and immediate change to the outlook and feelings of a lady who sought his help and guidance. I happened to be visiting Supramania Swami at that time when this lady walked into Swami's kudil at Thiruvannamalai, with her male relative. She broke down as she voiced her sorrow of having to go through 'hell' at the hands of her husband. Swami listened intently. I was thinking Swami, like others, would tell her to bare all the torture she was put through and pray that her husband would regret his actions and change for the better one day. But to my surprise, Swami told her in a rather harsh way, like a directive or order, to leave that man and start her life anew! Immediately upon hearing these words, she burst into a loud laughter of joy and happiness and left the premises without uttering another word. It was pretty obvious that she walked away in a state of bliss, leaving all the pain and sorrow behind.

Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal too has been harsh with me, on several occasions. I felt hurt then, but over the years I realized that he had done me a favor. I had never sought after any gurus. The only ones I met were the visiting Swamijis at the local temples. I like everyone else would line up and get their blessings after the prayers at these temples. So you can imagine my joy when Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal accepted my invitation to dine at my home. After a short prayer and partaking our food, I accompanied him back to his place of stay, during his visit to Malaysia then. As my nephew took to the wheels, I sat beside Tavayogi in the rear. I began to express my joy telling him that he was the very first swamiji to step into my home and that we were very grateful. Never did I expect him to come down on me so hard, telling me that I was living in illusion or maya. "You think I have something hidden behind this sadhus attire. I have nothing to offer. You should seek the source within and beyond me. He is Agathiyan!" Those words struck me down like a powerful bolt of lightning, silencing me and my nephews all the way to his place of residence at Batu Caves. I was puzzled. Did I say something wrong? I had only expressed my joy in receiving him at my home. Was that wrong?

Today I thank him for coming down so hard on me that day. I can only imagine what I would have done if he had not said those harsh words. I would have returned home to place a large portrait of him in my living room and worshiped him, rather than worship Agathiyar.

Tavayogi broke my attachment to his physical self that day.

Accepting his invitation to visit his Kallar Ashram in India, I was witness to a conversation between him and one Suresh from Thiruvannamalai. Suresh was inquiring about a single piece of Rudraksha bead that he was holding in his hands. Tavayogi explained the benefits of wearing one but at the same time cautioned him about its usage too. As Suresh left us with a resolve to wear the Rudraksha on him, Tavayogi turned to me and said, "Namakku athu yellam venda, Magane." I was taken aback on the turn around in his talk. Seeing me wear the Navaratnam gems on my ring finger, he asked me about it. I told him Supramania Swami had ask me to wear it. Again he told me that we do not need it. When I told him that I was wearing a Rasamani or solidified mercury bead on me, again he uttered the same words. I dropped wearing all those. Today I understand why he said those things. He help me overcome attachment to those peripheral things. He helped me to remain focused on what I should sought.

The next beating I took from him was when I went overboard and started advising the devotees who came over to AVM. After listening to their problems it was only natural of my wife and me to try and solve their problems by giving solutions. But these caused problems for us, besides some results did not go well with them. I went back to Tavayogi seeking why it was happening contrary to our expectations. Tavayogi blasted me for listening on and involving myself, "Nee Yetharkku Sambantha Padukirai," he asked. "Send them to Agathiyar. Let them cry their hearts out to him." From that day forth I send them to Agathiyar.

Today I clearly understand what Tavayogi meant when he asked me to redirect them to Agathiyar and not try to solve their problems for them.

Srinatha Raghavan has a beautiful tale to tell, that exemplifies what Tavayogi meant.
A young man was very devoted to the Master. Even though he had never seen the Master in flesh and blood, he was deeply rooted in his faith and love for the long gone Master.
The gentleman was an IT professional and worked for a big MNC, and after work, he would go to the final resting place of the Master and meditate for a while before wading his way home.

This was his daily routine for many years and he made the Master an integral part of his life's journey. He would come and share everything with the Master, as if the silent one was listening to all his outpourings intently. In that state of devotion, he saw a vision of the Master in all glory assuring him, "All your worries are mine, now and forever. Go and live well...!"

From then on, if he didn't get a bus back home, he would pray to the Master; if his children got late from school, he would call on the Master. If something went wrong, the Master was the only quick fix solution. Thus the Master had become his very center of existence.

Once it was announced in his office that a batch of employees were to be sent to the US to acquire training from their HO. He was sure that his name would be there in the list as he was one of the top performers.

When the final list came out, to his much surprise, his name wasn't to be found there and out of sheer anger and frustration, He took it all off on the old Master and cursed him for missing this opportunity.

He stopped visiting the Master and became more aloof and cut off from his responsibilities. He took to drinking to beat the bitterness and got addicted to it.

The delegation went to the US as planned and had their training for a month or so, when tragedy struck. The twin towers which housed their offices were brought down to dust by extremists, killing every single of them and more.

When the man, back home, saw the drastic visuals on television, he felt already dead. He left everything behind and rushed to the place of his Master to seek his forgiveness. He cried and cried till there was no more tears to shed, for doubting his ever protecting Master.

That's when he heard someone whisper, "All your worries are mine, now and forever, go and live well...!!!"

DENGKIL SRI MAYURANATHAR ALAYAM POURNAMI POOJA SPECIAL

SATHRU SAMHARA SIVA SUBRAMANIA TRISATHI HOMAM

The Sathru Samhara Siva Subramania Trisathi Homam lead by Saravanan Palanisamy of AVM was conducted successfully yesterday at the temple grounds of the Sri Mayuranathar Alayam, Sri Math Pamban Kumaraguruthasa Swamigal Thirukovil in Dengkil.

Originally we were rather apprehensive about conducting this puja, taking into regard the nature of this yagam. But it came as a great relief when Agathiyar blessed us through his Aasi Nadi reading for Saravanan Palanisamy yesterday morning, a day after the event. Agathiyar went on to state that Saravanan will perform puja at homes and in temples in the future and that Agathiyar himself would appear to bless all wherever he performs them.

"எந்த தளம் சென்று நீ வழிபாடு செய்தாலும், நான் அங்கே வந்து நின்று ஆசி வழங்கிவிட்டுத்தான் செல்வேன்!"

According to members of the temple committee, this puja, what was postponed several times for various reasons earlier, saw the light of the day when Saravanan agreed to perform it.

The Divine works in mysterious ways indeed.

On another note, after having run out of memory card space and battery power in my camera during the filming of the last event at the temple (See http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.my/2016/05/pamban-swamigal-peruvizha.html), I decided to make a small investment to purchase more space in the form of memory cards and get an additional battery. Along the way I decided to invest in a tripod too. And believe me, using a tripod makes a lot of difference in the quality of the video footage as you can see for yourself in the Sathru Samhara Siva Subramania Trisathi Homam video.

Besides enabling us to be in the film too, not to mention relieving our arms and hands of the tension and stress in trying to keep our hands steady and considering the weight of the camera too, the tripod is a must, if you want to ensure steady, sharp shots. Here is a wonderful video on "How to Choose the Right Tripod" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc0UrwrlusU&feature=youtu.be.

MURUGESANIN PULAMBAL
