COMPASSION AND AID SURFACES IN THE FACE OF A DISASTER

In the face of disaster humanity and compassion comes to the aid. This we see among the folks of Chennai and India in the recent floods that has crippled the city. Malaysians too have come forward to help out. AVM will join this noble effort by forwarding cash to #Siddharth while clothings through the Malaysian Hindu Sangam and the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

ON FATE, DESTINY, KARMA & LOA

I was asked the following question: "People do talk about law of attraction....if you think positively....positive things will happen.....if you think negatively....negative things will happen...But then, whatever happen is something pre-decided by Him right? Then whats the role of this positive thinking?"

LOA will help beginning from this moment on. So does all the good thoughts and deeds you do from this moment forward. But you still have to answer for your past deeds in this life and your immediate past life. What about the rests of the 7 births (or innumerable births according to some texts) you had taken? Then you are also answerable for your parents deeds too. Then you are also answerable for their parents and ancestors actions too. All these karma has to be shouldered by you. You are answerable for your actions; you are answerable for your parents actions; and you are answerable for your ancestors actions. Multiply these karma by the 7 past births that you had taken. Its mind boggling and scary, right? Similarly your prodigy will be answerable for your actions; your parents actions and the rests of your ancestors actions too.

The total sum of these karma has resulted in your birth in the first place. It has helped decide the family you will be born in; the color of your skin; it has decided your physical built and form, and mental thoughts; the faith and belief that you shall inherit by way of your parents; the country and region and your surroundings too; all  without your knowledge, without you even agreeing to it or having a choice about it.

All these happens because of a law put into place by Erai - the law of cause and effect or Karma.

That is the amount of baggage we have brought with us to this world to be relieved off our shoulders. The Siddhas tell us that the only way to reduce this baggage of karma is to increase good karma, so that the ratio between good and bad would be balanced out and eventually the positive karma will offset the negative karma  and the negative eventually becoming negligible or very minute. This is where we are asked to have good thoughts and do good deeds to pave a new path devoid of new negative karma, although we will still have to handle the past karma that has taken form and shape in this present life.

Knowing this truth the Siddhas have gifted us the path of Sariyai, Kriyai, Yogam and Gnanam. While treading this paths we will accumulate positive merits that would help offset the negative karma, and put an end to this cycle of birth and death.

Yes LOA will help provided one is void of any previous and existing karma, otherwise these karma will taint and modify the present outcome of our actions. These can be in the form of delays, frustration, confusion, enemies, disease, sickness, suffering, hard life, poverty, injuries, etc. Yes fate and destiny is in our hands provided we have exhausted all previous karma. Then we begin to shape our lives, otherwise we are subjected to karma and its repercussions.

PUTTING WORDS INTO ACTION PART 1

Srinath Raghavan posted the following an hour ago.
Someone approached the old Master, pleading Him to pray for the recent natural disaster victims. The Master looked point blank at the visitor and asked, "What are you doing besides praying?" The Visitor looked down ashamed, when the Master caught hold of his hands and said, "Come let's go and help them with our hands; while continuing to pray with our hearts!"

There was a great calamity in the Master's small village, as a river bank had given away to floods, due to incessant rains. Most of the village homes were washed in floods, but the Master's old Monastery stood the test of the elements.

All the villagers came to the Monastery seeking asylum and the Master welcomed them with open arms. He along with his disciples fed them with fresh and hot home cooked meal. When the night approached, the villagers were feeling very cold, as there was no firewood to fuel the hearth. The Master seeing the plight of the guests, took an Axe and began hacking the wooden furniture of the Monastery, to the much hue and cry of all present there. Calmly the Master collected the wood pieces and made a fire to keep his guests warm.
A few days later, the rain had subsided; but it had left behind a lot of floating debris. The Master while seeing off the villagers, offered to help them, by providing the necessary wood to rebuild their houses. When one of them inquired, "From where will you get so much Wood?

The Master smiled and looked at the old wooden Monastery building.
I just came across the following site which is very promising and encouraging in lieu of the current situation in Chennai. Who are the Siddhas? - A Revelation by Agathiyar in the Jeeva Nadi

SRINATH & SOULFULLY YOURS

I have been following Srinath Raghavan's posts and blog Soulfully Yours for some time now. In fact I have re-posted some of his gems on Siddha Heartbeat earlier. They were so good that they needed to be shared and the messages passed on to others. Similarly today I have compiled more of his writings that bring immense pleasure and makes one ponder on life itself.

Sri runs counselling sessions for the public. Here is what Sri has to say about his service to the public, posted on his fb.
"How can we support Soulfully Yours.?" inquired a well wisher.
"By helping us to support others...!" was the response.
We offer free Holistic Healing and Counseling services to those who can't genuinely afford, to the ailing and the infirm and to Elders who don't have no one to call their own.

You can choose to aid us financially and/or refer to those in need for a paid session and/or share the good word with your friends and family, thus helping us reach and serve more deprived souls.
To give you an insight as to the extend and how people have gained from meeting him, here is a thank you note from one such grateful client.
Here is a heartfelt account of a Daughter-in-Law, who had requested a "Soulfully Yours" session for her bereaved Mother-in-Law. Although I humbly don't ascribe to many of the words used for me, but will nevertheless let it be.
"Human grief has many origins illness, betrayal, suffering, bereavement...the list is endless. To my mind Putra Shokam (loss of child) that comes to parents tops the list. Tears that cant be reasoned with, an emptiness that constantly echoes the futility of the last few decades of your life.

With the passing away of my husband i was in the dumps, but found various ways and support systems to recover some sanity. However silently around me was a Mother wallowing in so much misery that if you looked into her eyes you would cry. I did not even speak to her often because i knew not what to say... two grieving ones, much worse than the other .

Not knowing what to do i turned to Soulfully Yours...Srinath. After a few delays we worked out a session. Delays because i had to prepare her to share her grief and believe that maybe it could even lighten. (Sri cooperated completely by the casual approach of a friend visiting). She had resigned to the rest of her life crying for a lost child.

I am writing this so that the message can go to so many silent grievers that there is a way... the way of the divine... the way of love that heals... and Srinath Raghavan is a true messenger of the divine. At the start all barriers that my mom in law had and all the hesitation she had collapsed with the warm consoling hug he gave her. The mother in her shed all her tears in a moment and from there on the session was smooth. They had connected.

Just by reading her heart he told her about lot of her private loving moments and unfulfilled wishes for her son. He also reminded her about her devout offerings to Lord Rama thru her life and her special relationship with the lord. Her eyes lit up with pride when he mentioned she had another son equally well brought up and who loves her a lot and how she had to live well for him.

He told her she had been a most loving mother and wife and even today it is she who kept the family together. She had been a lovely obedient daughter full of joy and beauty. She was surprised and happy like a little child on hearing all this. Everyone had forgotten the little girl in her including herself and somewhere the joy and beauty had become pain and heaviness only.

They agreed to meet again .She was a little brighter but ready for much more. Nothing can heal like the touch of the Divine Mother and Sri silently does a beautiful job of transmitting Her touch. The divine is always around..round the corner...Address : Soulfully Yours."
May many lives arrive at this address seeking themselves..
Although Sri has posted many interesting pieces on several topics on his page, I have chosen to share some rare gems that brought some enlightenment to me too.
  • The Master used to heal the sick with his Midas touch. Hopeless cases used to line up in thousands at his humble abode, seeking the Master's divine touch. To everyone He would simply smile and touch them on their heads, as a gesture of love. No words used to be exchanged, only silent love passed through the Master. Healing used to happen on it's own accord. Some would get cured instantly of their dis-eases, while others would gain an unknown strength that lay dormant within, to accept their cases without fighting it no more. The Master was not so old, but began to look so quite too soon. He contracted many incurable diseases, but his gift of healing never ceased to be. Despite his failing health He would sit on his favorite chair all day and offer his gift of love to everyone without discrimination. When a few concerned disciples complained to the Master of his own health, the Master smiled and replied, "Someone has to suffer, for the rest to live happily!" Such was the heart of the Master, who died so others could live.
  • When people used to go to the Master, to have their worldly desires fulfilled, He used to laugh and ask, "Today if I grant your one wish, what guarantee is there, that another two won't be born out of it. If two of them are fulfilled, then are you sure, another four won't spring forth from it..."
  • Talk to us on Renunciation? Renunciation is not in letting go of the world, but it's in wholeheartedly embracing it all, as a part of one's own. So when you are no longer a Stranger to none, not even to yourself, the whole World along with all it's inhabitants, become your very own. When everything/one becomes your own, you won't be attached to none, as everything is yours anyway. Whom or what to lose and to whom? In that state of Supreme Oneness, all attachments drop away naturally, to give rise to Universal Love. Renunciation is unbounded love and compassion for all of Creation and the Created, without any reservations. All belongs to me, yet I belong to none! This is the true spirit of Renunciation.
  • They inquired, "What do I need to do, to be happy?" He smiled and said, "Stop doing and start being happy!" ~ Keep Happiness simple and free; else you'll have to "spend" much to achieve it.
  • The hardest of spiritual paths, is one of self-surrender, which no one, expect a very few, have truly dared to walk upon and mastered. When you walk on this path, there is no chance for Questioning, Seeking or Complaining; it's about only experiencing what's planned for you unquestioningly. So when you are fortunate to meet someone, who is on the path of Self-Surrender, don't bother to question them; as providing answers, is not in their spiritual agenda. No Questions + No Answers = Peace!
  • The Master had many illustrious disciples, who were intellectual giants (or at least they thought themselves to be). The Master in order to teach them an invaluable lesson in spirituality once asked, "Tell me about God? One after the other, they gave many scholarly discourses on God. Then the Master asked, "Now tell me who has experienced God?" There was a sudden wave of silence engulfing his disciples, as no one was willing to speak up. That's when the Master spoke up, "When you've seldom experienced what you have spoken, then how much truth is there to it?" They all cast their eyes down in humility. ~ To understand, to know and to realize are different deals altogether. You can understand, but not necessarily know; likewise, you'd know, but not necessarily realize!
  • The Master used to say, "There will be those who will quietly see life through your eyes; so take care, not to scare them, by showing the wrong picture..."
  • The Master used to say, "Steer clear from a Guru, who runs an Organization selling Spirituality. In the end, He/She will help only those, who are capable of helping him run the Organization..." He then used to laugh and say, "The biggest spiritual torture is to get trapped between the Guru and His Ashrama...!"
  • "Why am I unable to earn the grace of the Guru, even though I am walking on the path, for the last so many years?" questioned a Seeker. He smiled and inquired, "Without His grace, do you think, you could have walked on the path for so long?" ~ The grace of the Guru is like the Air you breathe; invisible, subtle, yet always present to sustain life. Just become aware of it!
  • "How to let go of the past?" asked a dear one. "By holding on to the Present!" was the reply. ~ The living Present is the only solution to a dead Past.
  • "What is the aim of Spirituality?" was the question. "It's the process of knowing, what your Soul already knows!" was the answer.
  • Being Spiritual does not mean just to talk about mystical stuff, Of Vibrations or Auras or Angels or something more, It's just to be a better human being than you were before, With Kindness in your Heart and Hope in your eyes, You move on with life with a beaming smile, Sharing the light of your Inner Being freely with others... ~ The need of the hour, are more attuned Spiritual Beings, who can spread Kindness, Compassion, Peace and Love, in this hour of global darkness.
  • Someone inquired, "Have you read Thirumular's Thirumanthiram?" I humbly replied, "No. It's beyond my mortal comprehension!" "Why do say so, as there are so many easy translations available on the Net?" they inquired. "That's not the point. It's because the Author, has put in a year of deep Meditation, in experiencing each of the 3,000 or more odd verses of the book, before he could share it with the world..." was the answer. ~ Some books are not to be casually read; for they are to be meditated verse by verse in deep silence. Even if one verse becomes crystal clear, your entire life will become a blessed testament.

  • Dear Sir, Thanks for this blog. I am Mesmerised with the articles therein and I want to meet Tavayogi ji and stay in the ashram. Is it possible. Can I get a reading of Jeev Nadi. Plz help.
  • Sir, This Thursday I was lucky to be able to see the homam and abhishek of Agathiar Ji on U stream.
  • Sir I need a Jeeva Nadi Reading urgently. Only the Siddhas can help me in my journey and help me attain the final frontier. I wish I could reach there immediately and take their blessings. Rgds
  • Sir ... In the meantime please pray for us that our nadi leaves are found and Agathiyar Ji and the Siddhas bless us and show us the way. Hoping this will be a new beginning. Agathiyar Ji is always present with You. Plz pray on our behalf too. Rgds
  • Dear Sir, I did hear my nadi being read. Its so amazing. My fathers name, mothers name, Wifes name, What my Son is doing... What my daughter is pursuing in studies ... everything was precisely mentioned. My sisters ... about them. Also about my Guru Ji. Where he is residing and where his ashram is. The troubled times in this life. A bit about my past... and most importantly atonements to be done. My life to be...all was mentioned. Not much about my past was revealed ... I feel as if I am a chosen one of Agathiar Ji for having told me all this and how to ease out of the troubled times at present. This mail is to thank you as you have also been a medium of Agathiar Ji for me to have led me to Selvam. Thank You Sir and do keep us in your prayers always. Since I was going to Chennai do you think it wd be possible to visit Tavayogi Ji ashram and take his and the Siddhas blessings. Rgds

  • Sir Greetings! Further to my previous mail... hv completed all atonements. It was an out of the world experience. I am sure agathiar ji was there throughout. Jeeva nadi has tld m so many things...past ...present... future....I was tld what I had dn in one birth of mine. I was also tld that my atonements are complete. I was gvn remedy for everything. I was also tld abt my spiritual journey. I feel as if I hv someone to talk to....someone to look up to....someone who will make an ignorant person like me some day walk the path of the Siddhas.

Agathiyar in the above Nadi reading mentions that many have gained from visiting AVM and Siddha Heartbeat (SH) and watching the live stream of the Siddha Puja. We at AVM and SH are blessed to be of service to fellow devotees.

A FULFILLING JOURNEY

In the very first Nadi reading itself Agathiyar had enlightened me on the existence of karma and its impact on every individuals lives, and karma been the reason for taking rebirth again and again. He was  gracious enough to reveal my past too and showed me ways to eradicate/ reduce/ cleanse my karma.

For a start he asked that I complete certain atonements or parikarams that took me to many temples in Malaysia and later in India. He gave me a grace period of two years to complete them before coming back to him. I immediately set out to complete my atonements locally and in India the following year.

I was destined to see the Nadi only when I was 44 years of age, no sooner nor later. Agathiyar recommended that I carry out certain Agamas in the Pothu Kaandam to bring on some clarity and understanding. He asked that I engaged in devotion and service too.

In the Santhi Parikaara (Karma) Kaandam he asked that I carry out Noolukku Dhanam or paying homage to my Nadi through a small contribution and a prayer to the Nadi and its author, the Siddhas.

In the Theechai Kaandam, I was asked to chant Lord Ganapathy's Mantra, worship the Siddhas, and conduct Shiva Puja.

Finally in the Jnana Kaandam, Agathiyar mentioned that it was destined that I read the Jnana Nool only then. Agathiyar said I needed to engage in worship, puja, conduct Shiva Puja and Agathiyar Puja and associate with spiritual movements. I was to carry out certain practices that would come my way through a guru. As Karma stood in my way to spiritual progress, Agathiyar asked that I visit all 5 element temples of Lord Shiva, of which Thiruvannamalai should be my last stop. I was asked to circumambulate Arunachala hill on a full moon day. I needed to visit Palani and offer my prayers to Lord Muruga too. Agathiyar initiated certain yogic practices in the Nadi too to cleanse the body. He taught Vaasi practice that was to be performed during the auspicious period of 2 hours before daybreak. Agathiyar said that these practices would be more meaningful if a theecha from a guru is received. The most compassionate father said that I shall meet my guru when I least expected. Agathiyar blessed that he shall be on hand to guide me further through his Nadi. I was asked to chant the names of the Siddhas as they were mantras on their own. Agathiyar said all secrets and clarity lies within him. I was asked to contribute towards the building of temples and eventually build one for him too. I was asked to be of service to others too. Agathiyar ended the reading by asking to see him when I was 45 years of age.

Besides fulfilling the atonements Agathiyar also asked that I come to his path. The Siddha path was something new to me. Nadi Nool Aasan Sentilkumar who read my Nadi graciously gave me a booklet with Siddha names and initiated me by chanting their names. Sivabalan who brought Sentilkumar to read the Nadi presented me with a portrait of Agathiyar. Next I headed to the local branch of the Sri Agathiyar Sanmarga Gurukulum in Kampong Laksamana, Batu Caves and Agathiyar Sanmarga Sangam in Dengkil, both initiated by Rengaraja Desigar. I knew of their existence through their massive donation drives door to door and at festivities. I picked up more books here.

In 2003 when I finally made my pilgrimage to carry out my atonements in India, I found my very first guru Supramania Swami in Thiruvannamalai. During my visit I included the Agathiyar Sanmarga Sangam in Turaiyur in my itinerary. I had a chance to meet Rengaraja Desigar personally. I picked up more books while there.

In 2005 I dropped by to pay my respects to Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal who was to launch and officiate a local branch of his Sri Agathiyar Gnana Peedham in Malaysia. I found my second guru in him. Tavayogi introduced me to Nadi Nool Aasan T.Ramesh. Agathiyar after a year blessed me with a reading again as promised. He told me that Tavayogi was my guru.

True to his words, after I accepted Tavayogi as my guru, changes immediately began to take place. Surprisingly after 45 seconds the audio recording of the prized Nadi reading died down to a hiss. It was practically erased to the surprise of Ramesh and me. When I went back to Ramesh he reread the Aasi Nadi again. This time their was no mention about the local chapter of the Agathiyar Gnana Peedham in Malaysia which I was to patronize as mentioned in the earlier reading. A few more places were included which I should visit in India, including Thiruvannamalai, Kallar Ashram, Palani and Agasthiyampalli too. Agathiyar promised to open his eye in his granite statue while at Agasthiyampalli. I needed to be in Courtallam too. He acknowledge that he was watching the prayers and practices that I had been continuing.

Agathiyar promised lots of surprises and miracles. He was glad that I was steadfast in upholding his teachings, and staying on his path the past year without diverting away. Hence the reason for him to continue providing more readings and guidance through the Nadi.

Till this day, I have had 53 Nadi readings. Agathiyar has guided me just as he had promised. As usual he expresses his joy in this reading too. Without his grace and blessing I doubt that I could have walked this far on the path of the Siddhas.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PILGRIMAGES

While walking with the Siddhas I was led onto their path beginning with Sariyai, then Kriyai, Yogam and with their grace, eventually Jnanam one day. After coming to Agathiyar, I let him lead me. He asked me to worship him and the Siddhas and Erai too. He lives in my home in the form of a bronze statue where we perform libation to him. We perform lighting the sacred fire pit ritual or homam too. All these is conducted on his directive. He knows whats best for me. He knows when I should start a regime or practice and when to end it too. A guru is one who gives one a practice and monitors his progress, and if the need be, puts an end to that very practice too.

Agathiyar starts almost everyone who comes for a Nadi reading with instructions to perform atonements or parikarams which takes one to many temples too. Agathiyar has encouraged devotees to undertake pilgrimages. Agathiyar and the Siddhas amaze their devotees by performing miracles, giving darshans and guiding them on their journeys besides performing many other mind boggling feats.

Besides other places, I was asked to visit Agasthiyampalli where Agathiyar promised to open his eyes in my Nadi reading. He fulfilled his promise.

Surendaran Selvaratnam from Malaysia was invited personally to Pothigai Peak by Agathiyar in a Jeeva Nadi reading at Kallar. Agathiyar in the Jeeva Nadi reading called him over, telling him that he would personally give him a helping hand to climb and overcome the treacherous and slippery boulders. Agathiyar added that Korakar would accompany them, giving Suren the confidence to hike up to Pothigai peak. Surendaran successfully and safely climbed the peak.

Srimathi Nalini of Chennai went on a pilgrimage as directed by Agathiyar. She wrote, "In Jeeva Naadi (read at Kallar) Agathiyar ayya asked me to visit Pabanasam, then Agathiyar aruvi, Sadhu Krishnaveni Amma ashram and his moolasthanam at Kalyana Theertham. Next he asked me to visit Coutralam. He asked me to come to Senbagadevi aruvi."

Agathiyar promised her his darshan and blessing at Shenbaga Devi Aruvi,  "Senbagadevi aruvi karai oram nan irukken en kugai undu en vaasi kol undu adhai un sirasil thottu vanagu".

Agathiyar has graciously mentioned the significance of performing pilgrimages, in Nadi readings for Viji Amma, Saravanan Kandasamy and others too.

For those who came to Agathiyar for a solution to their problems and miseries, Agathiyar through his favorite son the late Jeeva Nadi Guru of Chennai Amarar Hanumathdasan spelled out many remedies.

Agathiyar most graciously delivers Bhogar's remedy for Aids to an individual who seeked out Agathiyar's Jeeva Nadi at http://siththanarul.blogspot.com/2014/05/173.html, Agathiyar instructs him to carry out atonement for each member of his family to remove their past karma and only then to undertake a journey to Sathuragiri or Pothigai where certain herbs were available for preparing the Siddha medication prescribed by Bhogar, which was elaborated in detail by Agathiyar.

Besides dictating and directing others on pilgrimages, Agathiyar had Amarar Hanumathdasan himself go to numerous temples where Agathiyar would reveal a thing or two.

Agathiyar had his favorite daughter Jnana Jyothiamma go places where she was bestowed with his grace and that of other Siddhas and Erai.

Lord Muruga made Arunagiri of Thiruvannamalai go to several abodes of his throughout India, giving him precious gifts and upadesa at these spiritual spots at timely moments.

Raman Nambiar, after performing the last rites for his wife, headed for Tunjathu Ramanujar’s samadhi and sat in meditation. Then he continued his meditation at the Panjavarnam Cave in Palani. After Siddha Bhogar appeared in front of him and gave him an initiation, he left on a pilgrimage to the Himalayas in 1910. He returned from the Himalayas in 1913 as Gnana Pitha Shivananda Paramahansa. In 1914, he went on a pilgrimage throughout India. He was in Pavanagar, Peshawar, Tirusoor, Savakadu, and Kadathanadu before establishing the Samapanthi Bhojana Sangam in 1921. Gnana Pitha Shivananda came to Malaya in 1937 and set up the Siddha Vidhya Sangam in Setapak in Kuala Lumpur before returning back to India just before Malaya gained her independence.

Devotees of Maharajji shared many interesting facts on pilgrimages in MIRACLE OF LOVE. It is written,
Maharajji again and again sent us on specific pilgrimages. For us, it often felt as if we were merely being sent “away,” but perhaps there was more. … And Maharajji very much encouraged such pilgrimages through example and instruction.
While on one of his walks at the Kumba Mela site, Maharajji asked that his devotee pick up the dirt and smear it over him, justifying that “Saints have been coming here for thousands of years. Dada, take the dirt and touch your head.”
Many return a changed person after going on these pilgrimages.

The most compassionate father, sends his devotees on these pilgrimage for a reason. At other times Agathiyar comes knocking their doors to deliver his gifts. Ramalinga Adigal was gifted with sweet by Agathiyar who came knocking his door in the middle of night.

The Siddhas passed a majestic Rudraksha to Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal to be worshipped as a Shivalinga, at his doorstep at Kallar at first light a few days before Agathiyar's Jayanthi.

Jnana Jyothiamma was given gifts too by the Siddhas in the comfort of her home.

ARUNACHALA SIVA

When I noticed a sack hanging on a window that once opened to a magnificent view of Arunachala or Annamalaiyaar in Supramania Swami's kudil, I immediately questioned him. He had purposely placed a window there so that he could recline on his jute bed just opposite the living room of his kudil and watch Arunachala, the sacred hill at Thiruvannamalai, in all his glory and majesty. But now he had covered it up.

Swami replied that he could not see the hill no more, as it was fiery. Hence he had shut the view. He added that he could see Siddhas atop the hill. I took a glance again at Arunachala, and I could only see a hill.

Saravanan Palanisamy has illustrated exactly what Swami had described to me then in the following sketches.

Again, I used to wonder what Supramania Swami saw at his guru Yogi Ramsuratkumar's samadhi where libation was been done on the Shivalinga and Nandhi during the Pradosham day. He sat still watching the samadhi close to an hour without even being distracted a moment.

Photos and videos of the recent annual Karthigai Deepam celebrations at Thiruvannamalai have appeared on the net, giving us the opportunity to witness this spectacular festivity.

We at AVM sang Ramana's Aksharamanamaalai to our hearts delight.

In the Introduction to ARUNACHALA SIVA ARUNACHALA AKSHARAMANAMALAI (BRIDAL GARLAND OF LETTERS FOR ARUNACHALA) and ARUNACHALA PANCHARATNAM (FIVE GEMS ON ARUNACHALA) of BHAGAVAN SRI RAMANA MAHARSHI, published by Sri Ramanasramam, Thiruvannamalai, is written that, "Most of Bhagavan Sri Ramana's compositions were written in answer to a query put, a doubt raised, or a request made by some devotee or other."

Similarly his devotees had requested Ramana to coin a song which they could sing while going out in search of alms. This was during the period when Ramana was staying in Virupaksha cave on Arunachala hill. Some time later while he was circumambulating the sacred hill with these devotees, out came a beautiful devotional outpouring in praise of Arunachala, spontaneous from his heart. This came to be called Aksharamanamalai.
The title of this lyric poem, Arunachala Aksharamanamalai, means ‘the bridal garland of letters for Arunachala. Mana Malai is the wedding-garland which symbolises the union of the bride with the bridegroom. It also means sweet-scented garland. The poem is called Aksharamanamalai because the initial letters of the verses of the hymn are in the alphabetical order. Aksharamanamalai may also mean ‘the garland that serves as the insignia of marriage with the undecaying (akshara) Lord’. The phrase contains the name of Bhagavan Sri Ramana too — aksharamana. It is significant that the hymn is composed of 108 verses — a number that is supremely sacred.
