FROM SELF CENTERED TO SERVICE

Going back reminiscing on the past 15 years....., I began to see a mysterious series of fortunate events unfold.

When I took up his call to come to his path, Agathiyar revealed a door to a journey that took me on his path and unveiled the curtain that showed my destiny. For one who did not have a vivid goal in life and who was self centered, the door led me to him and the drawing of the curtain showed me the sufferings of others. Just as Sidhartha when he stepped out of the confines of his palace was shown a whole new world of suffering and pain, Agathiyar showed me how ignorant I was of the needs of others till then.

Agathiyar showed me Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai whom I went to see on the pretext of charting a horoscope for my daughter. He became my very first guru. On my second visit, Swami brought his guru Yogi Ramsuratkumar who had gone into samadhi, to his kudil to chant with both of us. This was the very first miracle shown to me.

Swami brought me later to the Yogi's samadhi temple and took me along to visit Annamalaiyar in town and Perumal some distance away. He desired to build a temple and I stepped forward to help gather the funds. This was my very first act of giving.

When I started worshiping the Siddhas, my prayer included reciting the names of the Siddhas as shown to me by Nadi Nool Aasan Sentilkumar of Avinashi on the onset and several traditional hymns of the Siddhas and prayers coined by Thavathiru Rengaraja Desigar of Ongara Kudil.

One that I picked up and uttered daily was that his army of Siddhas should engulf me and grant all my wishes, and bring me to his Pothigai mountain and that he should take me as his student too.

Agathiyar granted this prayer when Tavayogi offered to bring me physically to the places associated with the Siddhas, bringing me in contact with them and introducing me to a whole new world of mystic and mystery. True to the prayer, Tavayogi mentioned to me that the Siddhas were all around us, ushering us, showering us with flower petals and blessing us as we made our way to the numerous caves, hills, jungles, samadhis and temples. Back then I was skeptical. I had to have a logically reason to belief in anything and have my senses prod the matter on hand. As Agathiyar says, "Let it happen and I shall believe says man; belief and it shall happen say the Siddhas", today I truly believe that anything and everything is possible with the Siddhas.

Once back home Agathiyar brought many gems to AVM to come together in prayers and engage together in service to others. We at AVM gathered together to carry out his dictates that was conveyed through the numerous Nadi readings for all. His only doctrine for us was conduct prayers and help others. He continuously reminded us to carry out puja for the Siddhas and light the homam that he said would remove our karma and rejuvenate and heal the prapanjam. In return he brought us to many places related to the Siddhas in the caves, jungles and hills, bringing us closer to nature and having us return safe, rejuvenated and energized. Agathiyar showed us how interdependent nature and we are.

Puja in the beginning years.

Performing the Homam.

Tavayogi and Mataji arrive to fine tune the rituals of Abhisegam and Homam.

Today everybody at AVM does puja and homam in the comfort of their own homes, with Agathiyar residing over it and guiding them further.

Present day.

We have come far since my very first Nadi reading in 2002 at the Agathiyan Shelter in Petaling Jaya by Nadi Nool Aasan Sentilkumar of Avinash.

Sentilkumar gave me a leaflet that introduced me to Tavayogi some three years later.

Then there was the advert in the papers that led me to Tavayogi in Malaysia.

Tavayogi in turn introduced me to T.Ramesh and since then I have had my readings through him. I am grateful to all these wonderful people who helped me along, as gurus and guideposts.

Beginning my worship with numerous paintings of Agathiyar, in 2009 Agathiyar in the Nadi asked me to commission his statue at Swamimalai. It was to be a replica of that at Agasthiyampalli.

Agathiyar opens his eyes in his paintings as a teaser before eventually performing the miracle of opening them in his statue at AVM that became the talk of the town.

After opening an eye just as he did at Agasthiyampalli and later both eyes at Kuttraleshwar Temple.
The Miracle Photo
After having given us proof of his presence in real time, he brought great masters to AVM. He brought great devotees of his too. He took us another step from devotion to service, in the footsteps of the master.

Agathiyar used the professions and talents of those at AVM to further his work. He gave specific instructions to each individual at AVM that further enhanced his mission. If I was to continue with the rituals, Bala Chandran Gunasekaran, his family and relatives and his friends from Thondu Seivom have been encouraged to continue the feeding programs. Many from the AVM family who could not contribute their time to actively participate in these programs gave in cash and kind through Amudha Surabhi (AS) to help continue this noble service. AS besides its own programmes extended its aid to Agathiyar Universal Mission (AUM) to conduct its feeding programmes, "Pothigai Meals on Wheels" that serves meals to the homeless on the streets and also to school going children who cannot afford a meal. Assistance in several other forms too has found its way to brighten up the lives of the unfortunate.

As for our latest task, AVM is working towards producing an album, songs in praise of Agathiyar that has had blessings of Agathiyar and Tavayogi alike to go ahead. Those who would like to sponsor the tracks (songs) can get in touch with me at agathiyarvanam@yahoo.com.

POWER SPOTS

All religions have sacred or power spots where its followers head to annually or on occasions to take part in the religious festivities or to bath and take in the vibe and energy that the place has to offer, before returning home to the chores of their daily lives, with renewed energy and boost. Some do come back a different person after performing the rituals; or after encountering life changing happenings; or just by sitting in silence, in these places of worship.

What makes a place sacred? Martin Gray who "since 1984, has traveled extensively to more than 100 countries, visited, studied and photographed more than 1,000 sacred places in all the places he went, recognized 20 distinct factors that contribute to the localized energy fields of sacred sites" and divides them into three main categories that are: "influences of the Earth; influences of the structures that humans have built at the sacred sites; and influences caused by the accumulated power of focused human intention."

This is pretty true when it comes to the sacred spots that we frequent: be it the caves, jungles or the mountains; the magnificent temples; and the congregation of people at these places.

Although this phenomena of heading for these spots for various reasons has been in practice since time immemorial and is seen in presents days too, Martin asks a very fundamental question: "How are we to account for the initial development of the ancient pilgrimage traditions? What started them? Why did human beings originally visit and venerate certain places on Earth?".

Although the common man has tried to answer them based on tradition and folklore, and linking them to myth and legends, these questions remain unanswered.

Just as Martin writes, "After spending 12 years in a disciplined practice of Hindu and Buddhist meditation techniques, I had begun to have unusual visionary experiences in which I was directed to travel to Easter Island, in the remote southern Pacific Ocean. Visiting Easter Island, and also the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, I had two more visions that directed me to “follow the pilgrimage routes of the ancient religions” and to begin those travels in Japan. These visionary experiences were both auditory and visual, and of surprising clarity", many have been gifted with these extraordinary visions of places and things and have embarked on a search of these places.

While many are known to have started a journey of discovery after receiving divine visions, we have heard of stories where many artifacts came to be discovered through visions given to others. When my guru Supramania Swami was doing tapas in the sacred hill of Tiruvannamalai, a spot was indicated to him where on digging a vel was found.

Similarly places where Siddhas had either worshiped, meditated, lived or went into samadhi are considered sacred and power spots, where one's wishes and desires are granted and come to fulfillment. It is for this reason that pilgrims travel long distances and rough terrain to be in these places believing that the presence of these Siddhas can be felt, seen, or heard. Some sense the aroma in the air and the ambrosia or nectar in them. The Siddhas make known their presence through our senses and the pilgrims return home rejuvenated and happy.

Going to these places upon receiving visions or to fulfill a desire, and for various other reasons, all these aside, taking the journey back to Nature and its fold itself is life revisited. Sadly while Nature is full of spirit and alive, man has become dead. By distancing himself away from nature, man shuts himself within four walls, creating a fortress around him and by attending to his selfish needs and wants, becomes indifferent to others and nature, hence unknowingly bringing on him depression and illness.

Nature has the power to heal; sooth and calm one's nerves; and feed and rejuvenate us. Lets get back to linking ourselves with Nature and Prapanjam.

Sri Krishna has put together another one day spiritual yatra to the Sri Marathandavar Temple in Maran and the Maha Jalalingeswar Temple in Panching, Pahang. Devotees are invited to register to join this trip.

ANNADHANAM

Bala Chandran Gunasekaran and his family members went about preparing food as early as 3.30 am this morning to feed devotees at the Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple, in Kg. Sireh, Semenyih. This is the second year his family is providing annadhanam in conjunction with the annual temple festival. Amudha Surabhi was given an opportunity to chip in, in purchasing "sarong" and stationary that was distributed to women devotees and children respectively.

"Sarong" &  stationary distributed to devotees

Meanwhile Rakesh and his friends at TUT too went about distributing food to people, starting at Velachery and its surroundings and end at the Thiruvanmiyur Maruntheeshwarar Temple. AVM and Amudha Surabhi are honored to be given an opportunity to contribute towards this programme. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcqbpGXXD_I&feature=youtu.be

THE IDEAL PACT

Just as there is the paper chase in the material world, there is a chase to attain a certain state of divinity in the spiritual world too. What is this state that is talked about so much? Has everyone who talks about it achieved or touched it or are they just merely passing on their theoretical knowledge of it? Is this state within the means of the common man like you and me. What are the criteria and qualifications needed to pursue the path that leads to this state and what are the means of achieving it? And finally coming back to the beginning, where do we start?

Nakkirar gives us an idea of this state when he prays to Lord Vinayagar to bless him a conducive space and atmosphere (the Paraveli), wherein both the student and Guru could spent some time in contemplation (Arivil Kalanthu) on Shivam in silence (Mauna Nilai or Samadhi).

"Bless and shower me with the wisdom of silence in the court of Erai with my Guru, so that I too may meet and merge with Shivam, the Ultimate, and rests in endless Anandha. I pray that you shower me with this yearning for total surrender at the holy feet of the Lord."

Thavathiru Rengaraja Desigar in his book, "Pothrinal Unathu Vinai Agalumapa", explains the process through which Agathiyar attained the highest state that of becoming one with Erai. This state was made possible to Agathiyar by his Guru Supramaniar (Lord Muruga).

All the knowledge to attain the state was made available to Agathiyar by Supramaniar because Agathiyar had provided the space, shelter and all comforts for Supramaniar to carry on with his penances (tapas) and austerities (tavam) in a past birth. Agathiyar was 60 years of age then when Supramaniar attained the body of Light through his tapas, thanks to Agathiyar looking after all of Supramaniar's needs. Supramaniar promised Agathiyar that they shall meet in a subsequent birth and that he shall return the favor.

In the succeeding birth Agathiyar traveled in vain in search of his ideal guru. He eventually met Supramaniar at Kodaikanal, where Supramaniar made him recall the past and as promised in return for all his services in the past birth, blessed Agathiyar and taught him secrets of attaining the state of Erai.

Agathiyar began with performing puja to Supramaniar. By way of devotion to Supramaniar he realized that he had had the greatest gift that was the human birth, which comes by very rarely. Through Supramaniar he came to know himself and the divinity that resided in the physical body. He understood the very Nature that brought him forth and resided within him. With Supramaniar's guidance and blessings, Agathiyar relished the ambrosia or nectar that came about through his tapas. This removed the seven veils to reveal the Jhothi in him, hence attaining the body of Light. With this came Bliss, Siddhis, and the state of Deathless-ness. Agathiyar attained the five tanmai of Erai namely Creation, Sustenance, Destruction, Veiling and Showering Grace.

Supramaniar granted Agathiyar the title Gurumuni and Kumbamuni and sent him off to spread the Siddha way extensively all over the globe, bringing many into his fold. All the Siddhas looked towards Agathiyar as their Guru.

If that is the story of how Agathiyar was elevated to the state of Erai, P. Karthigayan in his "History of Medical and Spiritual Sciences of Siddhas of Tamil Nadu", writes about how Supramaniar (Lord Muruga) came to be worshiped as Lord Muruga. His writings are based on Supramaniar Gnaanam 200, Thiruvilayaadal Puraanam and Kandha Puraanam amongst many other references.

P. Karthigayan mentions that Supramaniar, who was referred to as Kumaran in many old Tamil literary and religious works, had saved the Tamils from the invading Avunas led by Surabanman. Supramaniar mentions that as a warrior, he fought the war with Surabanman, henceforth he was known by that name. P. Karthigayan surprised me mentioning that the Avunas were the present day Chinese.

In his translation of selected verses from Supramaniar Gnaanam 200, P. Karthigayan writes that Kumaran then became wiser and a saint who went by the name Supramaniar after the war. He joined Siva's Nandhi monastery and learnt to dropped his ego and pride; observed severe penances or tapas; mastered his senses; and picked up yoga; and attained the highest state that of omniscient. Subsequently he mastered his breath and went into the state of mounam and thus came to be addressed as Muruga. He went through the painful process of transformation of his body into that of "air like", a death defying, life prolonging and ever youthful feat after consuming the ambrosia, attained through the science of the Siddhas. Muruga in turn taught Siva this secret and was henceforth called Swami Naathan. Siva too attained a luminous body. Swami Naathan became king of Paran Kundram and ruled the Tamils henceforth.

Verses from Supramaniar Gnaanam 200

Agathiyar mentions that he learnt the Siddha way from Supramaniar. If Supramaniar granted Agathiyar the body of Light or Jhothi Nilai in the following birth as appreciation of Agathiyar's service rendered to him and helping Supramaniar himself achieve his desire in attaining the Jhothi Nilai, my first Guru Supramania Swami granted me all his life's work of austerity or tavam and its merits to this selfish beggar who chose to bring his 40 year vision and desire in wanting to build a temple for Lord Muruga to reality. But for reasons only known to them, the construction of the temple was halted even before it took shape. In its place stands a kudil that we asked him to put up so that he could monitor the construction of the temple. I had openly confessed to him that I had agreed to help him finance the building of the temple for selfish reasons. I had just read the above story of Agathiyar who took care of Supramaniar while the later took to his tavam, and how Supramaniar had rewarded him with the body of Light. Although I did not go to the extend of asking for a body of Light, I thought it would be nice to gain some merits in fulfilling Supramania Swami's desire. Without second thought Swami gave me his entire tavam that very instant!

The qualities inherent and required of a Guru and his student respectively, is beautifully illustrated by the Guru Disciple relationship between Supramaniar and Agathiyar.

This is the true nature of a Guru. A true Guru dispels ignorance in his student, brings him to the true knowledge and raises him to a state equivalent to him if not higher and steps back to watch his student perform his role in public with joy and satisfaction.

The student on his part, needs to listen intently, adhere and comply to the Guru's instructions. He needs to work hard and be patient. He has to prove his worth.

In current times there is a fad where many want to be associated with a Guru, an ashram or society. They soon find their way there. Wanting to leave the social community that surrounds his home, neighborhood and workplace, he soon finds himself in yet another society in its place where he realizes that he needs to start anew, adapting himself to the new environment. Here he meets fellow aspirants and seekers from different backgrounds and with different ideologies, desires and wants. He with the rest who congregate at this new place of study and learning serve the Guru and fellow mates. He listens to discourses and talks given by the Guru. He carrys out the chores given to him. He is asked to reflect and contemplate on what the Guru has taught. Occasionally he finds a moment to question the Guru and have his doubts clarified.

The Guru can only give a student that much, only what he knows and understands to be. When he has exhausted his storehouse of knowledge, he sends his student away either to another teacher or to contemplate in silence and receive the answers for himself from within. The thirst for more knowledge, drives the student to leave. With the Guru's blessings he goes in search of fresh pastures to gain more knowledge. On his way he comes by many experiences meeting numerous Gurus, fellow students and others who cross path with him. A good student takes in the good and inspiring experiences and works on his betterment and refrains from belittling or bad mouthing the Gurus or their places. A student with caliber and potential and with the blessings of Erai and his masters, soon shines as a Guru too bringing fame and glory to his masters. This is the story of a student willing to travel the path of his Guru, a path filled with new discoveries and challenges.

Yet there are some who never want to leave the feet and the presence of their Guru once they are committed to their master. They serve him for life, till whoever leaves the mortal frame first. When most of Ramalinga Adigal's closest followers left after Adigal merged with the source, Kalpattu Aiya and a handful stayed on to toil and continue Adigal's work at Satya Gnana Sabai and Dharma Salai in Vadalur. The most compassionate Adigal came back to appear before Kalpattu Aiya in 1902, some 28 years later. Seeing his master appear in flesh and blood brought Kalpattu Aiya to a state of extreme bliss where he shed his mortal frame. Gnanabharathi wrote in his book "Tamil Mannin Thanthai" that Adigal stayed on for 3 days to look into the last rites of his most beloved student.

Here is where we realize the humongous responsibility of a Guru in leading these students. Here too we see the untiring service that the Guru provides day in and out in having to receive his visitors and sit and listen to each individual's story; in spending hours answering the questions and clearing the doubts of both his students and visitors.

Siddha Heartbeat takes a moment to salute all these Gurus who tirelessly work towards bringing the faith to the masses and in grooming and making students into Gurus.

We are very much in charge of our lives. We shall face the outcome of the karma we create now, in the present moment, in the next life. We were very much in charge of our lives in the past lives too. Hence we face the karmas of our past life now in the present.

Karma is the stumbling block in each's live. It creates suspicion, ignorance, and confusion. It causes delays and obstructions. It causes rifts and enmity. It causes losses and sufferings. It causes anguish and pain. There is no running away from it, we are told. We are told that we have to face the music for our actions. If that is so is our life to end in a pathetic way? Where is the joy that the Lord promised?

This is where time and time again we are reminded to do good. Taking a birth and collecting good merits along the way would reward us with good things in the next life. Agathiyar told me and my family that he had rewarded us to be born again in a peaceful and prosperous nation to savor and enjoy the pleasantries as a reward to our very simple and mere act of placing fruits at his feet everyday before we opened shop to sell fruits at the Kutraleshwar temple in Papanasam in a former birth. So have many of our AVM family been sent here to enjoy the luxuries and comfort that this nation had to offer, a result of their service and offerings to Agathiyar in the past.

When predictions through the various forms of astrology did not work out in my favor, I reminded myself that it was me to be blamed and not the system and sciences available. True enough Dr Krishnan pointed out to me about curses and how it could disrupt one's life. This was confirmed by Agathiyar in my maiden Nadi reading. As long as my karma stood in my way, the existence and knowledge of Agathiyar and the Siddhas was veiled and kept away from me. When I became an apprentice on the path of the Siddhas, I understood further that even if the Divine heard my cries for help, and decided to come forward to grant my prayers and and fulfill my wishes, sadly my karma would stand in my way, preventing me from receiving assistance.

I strongly believe that it was only by some Divine intervention that one could come to know of Agathiyar and the Siddhas. I was one of the lucky ones. When I came to know Agathiyar I realized that I had embarked on a process to shed my karma. An opening appeared to me in the sky to work out my karma. My life journal was being rewritten.

Let the Light in into our lives. When the Light enters, darkness dispels on its own. Let the Siddhas come into our lives. When they enter, karma dispels. When Agathiyar tells you to perform remedies in your Nadi, do it for it is out of compassion for you that he comes forward to show you a way out of your misery that you brought onto yourself. Do it with faith and do it generously. You shall see changes, immediate for some and slowly for others. Remember that not many get to see their Nadi; not many get remedies given; not many can bring themselves to belief and execute and carry out these remedies; and not many are allowed to complete their remedies.

If you are one of those who has had an opportunity to learn about the existence of the Siddhas and the Nadi; if you are one of those who has had an opportunity to seek out and find your Nadi; if you are one of those who is given remedies; if you are one of those who is able to complete your remedies, be assured that your efforts would not go in vain. If not today, very soon changes would take place.

When you work with the Siddhas in removing your ill earned karma, and if by your sincere efforts and by Divine intervention it is ridden, blessed are you. But do not rest on your laurels and achievements for remember that we are creating fresh karma in the process of executing our daily lives. Agathiyar might call us to do a couple of additional remedies along the way, after our initial round of remedies. I understood that certain remedies need to be done at certain periods or time, just as the thought of seeking out the Nadi too takes place as destined.

I understood that we are subject to destiny and fate only until we are ignorant of the workings of karma. That is the reason once we go for a Nadi reading, on the very onset the Siddhas talk about karma. Once the Siddhas reveal that karma is the cause of our destiny and fate, we then realize that we have several tools and means to rewrite our destiny and fate with the blessings of the Siddhas and approval from Erai. Besides our destiny and fate, the Siddhas make us realize that everything about us is in our hands.

The Siddhas recommend tapas and charity, two tools to overcome fresh karma. You could sit in prayer, do rituals or meditate. Agathiyar told me to light the sacrificial fire pit or homam and perform abhisegam for his bronze statue. The very act of doing it would dispel our karma he said. He gave me this task because I had all the time to perform these tedious rituals. For those who cannot find time, or do not have the resources, or the surrounding is not conducive to carry out these options, fear not for the most compassionate Siddhas have simplified the tasks accordingly to our present day lifestyles and locality. For my nephew who was on the run meeting up with clients of his, Agathiyar just told him to participate in any home, ashram or temple where prayers were conducted for the Siddhas on full moon days. Those at AVM have been asked to attend joint prayers or kuttu prathanai too. In event even this is not possible for you, worry not, for even the very simple act of feeding the birds, fishes and animals would suffice to bring you good merits for a better future. The other tool is to develop compassion and begin feeding the poor and hungry.

The reason we keep on taking birth after birth is because of ignorance of the truth. There is a way to end taking future births. The key is with the Siddhas. Rather then gain control of prapanjam, and manipulate it for selfish needs, the Siddhas chose to work with the prapanjam and for the good of humanity. Anyone who puts his best foot forward to safeguard, heal or help the prapanjam is in my view a Siddha.

If you decide to come to the worship of the Siddhas, you will realize that they would then come into your life as a guide; walking with you; sitting on and listening to your everyday conversations; coming forward to protect you in event of any danger to you or your loved ones; and standing guard in the hours of your sleep. When you decide to do their asking, you would soon realize that as you focus on your mission, they tend to take care of your needs and that of your families too.

Just as a consumer, we collect and accumulate bonus points to be exchanged for a gift each time we spend our money, let us start collecting and accumulating good merits to be exchanged for a better future and a better life. We at AVM have begun to see the results of walking the path of the Siddhas. Come join us.

AGATHIYAR ON THE UPCOMING ANNADHANAM

Agathiyar called Bala Chandran Gunasekaran for a Nadi reading today. He surprised us when he spoke about the upcoming Annadhanam in Chennai over the weekend held in collaboration with TUT of Chennai. Agathiyar also spoke about the numerous feeding programmes and encouraged us on. He tells us that the food we dispense to the poor and hungry shall turn to medicine and heal them. He also spoke about the need in getting together in prayers for the Siddhas regularly.

JOINING HANDS IN ANNADHANAM

AVM and TUT will engage in a joint feeding or annadhanam program to be held at Velachery and surrounding areas in Chennai on Saturday 12 August 2017, led by Rakesh and his friends. See

MESSAGES FOR THE TIRED SOUL

BLIND FAITH

Is it wrong to have blind faith - belief without true understanding, perception, or discrimination?

There are so many things out there that we take for granted and no one told us it was wrong. For one we do not try to understand how a smartphone works before using it, do we? We do not go into the mechanics of the car or automobile before driving off. We do not try to understand what is going to happen to the food that is ingested while we eat, instead we savor and enjoy the meal.

But when it comes to spiritualism, religion, tradition and custom, we are bombarded with so many questions even before one begins. One wants a clear understanding before embarking on a spiritual endeavor, regime or practice. Would not it be better to indulge in it and experience and see the fruits of our efforts for ourselves.

I had given my birth details and had my horoscope chart prepared and revealed before, through several astrologers, in the privacy of their homes or offices; I have had the parrot pick a card from a pack and have its owner reveal my stars under the sky, on the five foot way in the streets of the bustling city; I have showed strangers my palm and have had a reading of my fate and destiny before, again amidst the chaos and noise of the city; I have had people throw small conch shaped shells and deduce the present from how the shells fell after been shaken and thrown to the ground, right in the midst of the public; and I have shaken a can of bamboo sticks on which was written numerals till the one that dropped off the can was referred to a large book of fate and destiny in Chinese characters, amidst the wind chimes and bells ringing at a Chinese temple. I did not investigate these means of prediction.

Then there was a time, a period of 14 years where I stayed away from all forms of worship, reading and following, not that I had lost faith in my religion but I did not get answers to the questions that kept arising within me, seeing the turn of events and tragic happenings taking place around me, reaching out and reading all the spiritual books I could lay my hands on, that further confused me. Then Lord Shiva came in my dream and literally told me to take a break. He told me to keep my questions for a later date. I did just that. I dropped everything.

Then in 2001 I guess the time was right for me to begin my journey of discovery for my nephew turned up at my home with a mantra and certain regimes that I had to follow, courtesy of the heavenly father. He told me all this was in preparation to meet my guru. He told me he was only a tool to deliver the message and asked me not to question its source. Without further questions, without any doubt and suspicion, and without further ado, I did as told. I did not investigate these messages given in private.

The prophesy that my nephew delivered took place in 2003. I met my very first guru Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai.

Meanwhile a year later in 2002, I was told to start offering prayers to the Siddhas in the General chapter or Canto during my very first Kaanda Nadi reading. I did not investigate the Nadi reader, nor did I have an understanding of how the Nadi worked. I did not doubt the reader nor was I suspicious of the reading in any way. It never struck my mind that the reading could be manipulated by the reader in my favor or otherwise. I did not go into the depths of my mind to analyse and deduce that the reader could either read my mind, face, body language or fish me for answers through the numerous questions he puts forth. I did not investigate this sacred means of prediction.

On the contrary, I was intrigued to know that such a means of prediction of one's future was available.

When I sat before Supramania Swami of Tiruvannamalai he spoke about Annamalaiyar, himself and surprisingly about this garbage that was me. I did not investigate his prophesy.

I could only sit in silence and cry, and cry and cry for the rest of the 5 hours I spent with him, thinking how blessed I was to hear those words.

The crying did not stop there. I cried when Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal pointed me to Agathiyar's Holy feet, a wooden sandal or Pathugai or Patharatchai kept at the local chapter of his ashram in Batu Caves the very day I met him. He stopped me from falling at his feet telling me that I should only fall at the feet of Agathiyar. That statement broke the banks of the river of tears in me that day.

From then on, I could only cry out at all the sacred places I visited, oblivious to what was going on around me and not understanding why it was happening. I did not investigate why it was happening.

Soon after Agathiyar told me that I should stop crying but instead be blissful, these tearful moments became joyful and blissful.

Although I have not traveled far, and haven't seen much of other places, Agathiyar brought many well traveled sadhus, swamis and lovely souls, to AVM to share their story with me. We have had Narayan Swami from Kasi step into AVM one day, when NS Shan mentioned about us; we had Balachander Aiya bring over Muthukumar Swamy who was keen to meet us and share his life experiences at Kutralam; we had Kumarsamy Aiya from Anuvavi brought over to AVM by Sri Krishna several times. I did not investigate these Masters.

Non of the masters or swamis came to preach or change things or propose changes at AVM. Instead they spent their time sharing their divine experiences with us.

Then we have AVM family members Balamurugan trek to Kailash in 2011 and Dyalen return from Muktinath recently. Balamurugan gave massages to those in need of one for their ailments at AVM. Masters Uva and Arunan who had trekked to Pothigai peak with Bala Chandran and Dyalen, held regular healing sessions and yoga lessons at AVM. Master Gowri R. Varadhan from Bangalore, now an acharya going by the name Acharya Gurudasan, taught us Kriya Hatha Yoga over several weeks. I did not investigate these Masters.

And of course Tavayogi and Mataji, who initiated and started all of us at AVM graced AVM. I did not investigate my Guru.

There is no form of teaching, discourses, practices or techniques made available here at AVM. What is made available is love, friendship and trust. The AVM family is bonded by these values and off course the ever flowing thought of Agathiyar, his grace and guidance. The AVM family comes together, for Agathiyar, to thank him for all the blessings in life.

If all these summons to blind faith, well then I am happy that my blind faith had delivered me closer to my beloved Father, Agathiyar.

THE GURU

The one who unveils or draws back the curtain of illusion is the Guru. At the Indian temples the priests takes on the role of a Guru, drawing back the curtain that veils the idol or murthy of Erai, to show us the splendor and beauty of the Divine with a form.

Similarly the intelligence in each of us comes as a Guru, as an intuition or a thought, guiding us each moment of our lives. As we might not be receptive to these signals, hence customs, traditions, guidelines, and do's and don'ts were laid for us to follow by our elders.

Just as these are general rules, when one comes to a Guru for direction it would seem that what was said for another would equally be good for us. But that is far from the truth as each upadesha is specific to the recipient. Ram Das explains this through numerous episodes.
Maharajji's (Neem Karoli Baba) sadhana prescriptions were tailor-made for the individual devotee to whom they were directed.
At one point I asked Brahmachari Baba if Maharajji taught him tapasya, and I gave examples of the tapasya Maharajji is said to have done himself, such as sitting up to his neck in a lake and sitting in the summer noonday sun surrounded by four fires. Brahmachari Baba immediately said, “No. Only ordinary things such as various yoga-asanas (postures) and meditations and pranayams.”
With a little more questioning, he said, “Maharajji told me to be maun (silent). I was silent for three years . . . after that Maharajji told me to do the standing tapasya - that is to say, I must never sit or lie down, but remain always on my feet. This I did also for another three years. I performed this tapasya at Bhumiadhar before the temple complex was built. I had a special contraption to support my body for sleep. Sleep would come and my legs would swell up very big. Maharajji also told me to be phalahari (to eat no grains, only fruits and vegetables). This I did for some eight years.”

Brahmachari Baba speaks further about Maharajji,

For many years before I met Maharajji I was searching, going here and there, studying this and that. I began following strict yogic codes - brahmacharya, 3:00 am risings, cold baths, asanas, and dhyan.
It was during a period when I had given up coffee and tea that I met Maharajji. Tea was being offered to all of us, and I didn’t know what to do. I said nothing but did not accept a cup of tea, and Maharajji leaned over to me, saying, “Won’t you take tea? Take tea! You should drink the tea. It’s good for you in this weather! Take tea!” So I drank the tea. With that one cup of tea, all those strict disciplines and schedules were washed away! They seemed meaningless and unnecessary; the true work seemed beyond these things. Now I do whatever comes of itself.

Maharajji cautioned his devotees over performing yogic asanas. When some devotees questioned him about hatha yoga (physical method of attaining union with God), Maharajji told them: “Hatha yoga is okay if you are strictly brahmacharya. Otherwise it is dangerous. It is the difficult way to raise kundalini. You can raise kundalini by devotion and by feeding people. Kundalini does not necessarily manifest as outer symptoms; it can be awakened quietly.”
To another one he said, “If you are going to stand on your head, take butter. If you eat impure food, don’t do the headstand. Impure food goes to the mind and affects it.”

Some Westerners who came to Kainchi from Rishikesh practiced the whole hatha yoga regimen, swallowing dhotis, putting string up the nose, and so forth. Maharajji urged them to stop being so fanatic about that, saying, “I did all those things myself. It’s not the way.”
 Ram Dass narrates further.
While I was touring with a swami in southern India, he had given me mantra diksha (initiation) for a very powerful Shiva mantra that he said would give me vast wealth and vast power. I was fascinated and did the mantra day and night for many weeks. Then at a certain time, after coming to Maharajji, . . the mantra was gone - not in the sense that I couldn’t remember it but, rather, because it had lost its compelling quality. It no longer possessed me; I no longer had any desire to repeat it. Maharajji had taken it away.
Agathiyar says "Manam athu semmaiyaanal manthiram thevai ellai."

THE MIRACLE OF BIRTH

When we are swept by the current of pomp and pleasure, which assails us from all directions, He steps aside to watch us exhaust the well earned karma.

Similarly when we sail through the stormy seas and rapids in our lives, never having seen even a day of clear sky, let alone a silver lining in the cloud, again He steps aside to watch us exhaust the deserving karma.

Our karma bombards us with gifts and pleasures in life; unknowingly and out of ignorance we believe that to be lasting, and indulge in it further and deeper; while for others their karma veils them from receiving even the very basic necessities and good things in life; holding back their desires and wishes from being fulfilled. But they forget for that moment that that too shall come to pass.

The earnings have to balanced out and karma exhausted. The veil is then pulled aside to allow the grace of Erai in. He steps into our lives in the form of a guru, either living or as a jhothi or light.

Erai is said to have 5 tanmai or characteristics, taking on these tasks, namely: Creation (Padaithal), Sustenance (Kaathal), Elimination (Alithal), Veiling (Maraithal) and Showering His Grace (Arulal). We see his presence all around us and moving in us, as Agathiyar tells me he was there, showering his blessings, even before we began to take shape in the womb of our mothers.
Sperm production starts in the testicles, the two glands contained in the scrotal sac beneath the penis. The testicles hang outside the body because they are sensitive to temperature. To produce healthy sperm efficiently they have to stay at a balmy 34 degrees C. This is about four degrees cooler than normal body temperature. Once the sperm is created, it’s stored in each testicle in the epididymis, a six-meter long coiled tube. Just before ejaculation the sperm is scooped up and mixed with semen.
From start to finish it takes about 10 weeks to create a new sperm cell. The average sperm lives only a few weeks in a man’s body, and at least 39 million are set free with each ejaculation.
Some mysterious hand leads a male reproductive cell to an egg cell in the female, fusing with it and developing into a new organism. But it isn't as easy as it seems. The battle and onslaught that we face in life starts even before we have taken shape.
Those millions of sperm have begun their quest to find your egg, and it’s not an easy journey. The first obstacle may be your cervical mucus, which can seem like an impenetrable net on your non-fertile days. When you’re most fertile, however, it miraculously loosens up so the strongest swimmers can get through.
The sperm that survive still have a long road ahead. In all they need to travel about 18 cm from the cervix through the womb to the Fallopian tubes. When you consider that they travel at a rate of roughly 2.5 cm every 15 minutes, that’s quite a trip. The fastest swimmers may find the egg in as little as 45 minutes. It can take the slowest up to 12 hours. If the sperm don’t find an egg in the Fallopian tubes at the time of intercourse, they can survive inside you for up to seven days. This means that if you ovulate within this time window you could still conceive.
The mortality rate for sperm is very high and only a few dozen ever make it to the egg. The rest get trapped, lost (perhaps heading up the wrong Fallopian tube) or die along the way. For the few that get near the egg, the race isn’t over. Each one has to work frantically to penetrate the egg’s outer shell and get inside before the others. The egg needs to be fertilized within 24 hours of its release. When the hardiest sperm of the bunch makes it through, the egg changes instantaneously to prevent any others getting in. It’s like a protective shield that clamps down over the egg at the exact moment the first sperm is safely inside.

It is a miraculous journey all the way. It is a miracle how a single and lone cell battles all odds and its competitors and survives to fertilize the egg.
The ovaries are packed with eggs, which are made before you are even born. Every baby girl is born with 1 to 2 million eggs in each of her ovaries.
Many eggs begin dying off almost immediately and the rest steadily decrease in number as you get older. When you start your periods, usually between the ages of about 10 and 14, only about 600,000 eggs are still viable. By the age of 30, scientists calculate that about 72,000 viable eggs remain. You’ll probably release about 400-500 eggs during your fertile years, between your first period and the menopause. In countries such as the UK, the average age of menopause is about 51.
During each menstrual cycle, some time after your period, between three and 30 eggs start to mature in one of your ovaries. The ripest egg is then released, a process known as ovulation. The egg is quickly sucked up by the tulip-shaped opening of the nearest Fallopian tube. There are two Fallopian tubes, each about 10 cm in length, which lead from the ovaries to the womb.
Ovulation is usually about 14 days before your next period starts.
The average egg lives for up to 24 hours after release. It needs to be fertilized by a sperm within this time for a baby to be conceived. If your egg meets up with a healthy sperm on its way to the womb, the process of creating a new life begins. If not, the egg ends its journey at the womb and disintegrates
During fertilization, the genetic material in the sperm and egg combine to create a new cell that will rapidly start dividing. This bundle of new cells is known as the blastocyst. It continues travelling down the Fallopian tube towards the womb, a journey which can take another three days or so.
The gender of your baby depends on which type of sperm burrows into the egg first. Sperm with a Y chromosome will make a boy baby, and sperm with an X chromosome will make a girl.

AT HOME WITH AGATHIYAR

Digital composition of AVM Agathiyar by Sivakavin of Chennai

My son-in-law and daughter had engaged the assistance of Kavitha, Veena and their staffs to provide postnatal confinement services to my daughter and her new born baby, so that my wife could concentrate on the rest of the chores and housework.

Kavitha runs a center in Semenyih, a twenty minute drive from AVM. Malarvathy from AVM was groomed by her.

Malarvathy (far right) with Kavitha (seated left) and others

Today was the last day of their 16 day service, providing numerous services to both mother and child.

Although my wife had babysit many infants, toddlers and children in the past, it all came to a stop when Agathiyar came into our lives in the form of a bronze statue in 2010. If she had bath and dressed these children all those years, she took on a bigger responsibility after Agathiyar's arrival. She began to bath and dress Agathiyar now. Agathiyar, I suppose was so pleased with us that he changed his mind and remained in our home, not moving to the Jegathguru Sri Raghavendra Mrithiga Brindavanam in Ipoh as he mentioned earlier.

When I reflect on the task given to my wife, my children and me, that of having him in our home, caring for him and attending to the numerous visitors and devotees he brings over to AVM, I can only sit in silence and watch in awe and amazement. I am full of gratitude towards him for gracing our home. He has offered himself to be among us, with us in our home. What else does a man want?

In all these years of worship to the Siddhas, I had seen: people come to him seeking all kinds of gratifications but none came seeking him, for the sake of him; people come with desires, pray and hope that all their desires are fulfilled, but none came to know his desire; people come to place their wishes at his feet, but none came to ask of him his wish for them.

But this is where I saw an entire different set of devotees of his at AVM. They came for the sake of Agathiyar and nothing else. These were souls, sitting at his feet, waiting to hear him speak through the Nadi, taking every word as a gospel and implementing them in totality, giving their heart and soul to his service.

These extra ordinary souls, each talented in his own way, was hand picked by Agathiyar, and brought together under an umbrella, AVM. Agathiyar has sent the right candidates to do his asking. I am blessed to be in the company of AVM family.

JOINT ANNADHANAM

Agathiyar Vanam Malaysia (AVM) / Thondu Seivom (TS) / Amudha Surabhi (AS) came together to perform annadhanam or feeding programs at orphanages and old folks home, besides providing groceries and other essentials.

AS contributes towards AUM's monthly program "Pothigai Meal on Wheels" that undertakes to feed the homeless and hungry on the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

If AUM feed midday meals to the homeless, TS took to the streets after nightfall to distribute buns, drinks and toiletries.

Whenever opportunity provided for us to carry out annadhanam in India during our visits, we served meals or distributed food parcels to the hungry.

Surendaran Selvaratnam started a wonderful gesture of taking some time off from his busy working schedule recently while in Manila, Philippines to distribute some thirty packets of food and drinks over a couple of days. He has started a routine that we would all love our members to carry out during their overseas or outstation work trips.

To add another milestone in seeking ways and means to serve the needy, Thedal Ulla Thenikal (TUT) based in Chennai and AVM/TS through AS have joined hands in conducting an annadhanam in and around Velacheri on 13 August 2017. AVM thanks Rakesh of TUT for coordinating, preparation and distribution of food hence giving us a wonderful opportunity to work as a team that goes beyond borders.
