Agathiyar Arul Kavasam


Agathiyar Arul Kavasam is a masterpiece penned by Dr VM Jayapalan and set to music by Subramani and melodiously rendered by Sandhya. A Siddha doctor by profession, he has appropriately shared all his knowledge in this field in these verses.


The Dr had also released another couple of albums, Agathiyar Gnana Paatham and an audio narration of several amazing feats and miracles that Agathiyar had carried out in his compilation titled Agathiyar Thiruvilaiyaadal.






The Dr is the author of another work too Agathiyar Vedham.


Surendaren Selvaratnam and I were blessed to meet the Dr in Malaysia several years ago. He had graciously allowed me to use his materials in this blog.

I had carried a post on several hymns/songs by Siddhas on the greatness of Agathiyar earlier at http://agathiyarvanam.blogspot.my/2014/03/the-siddhas-speak-about-agathiyar.html.

Ryan Irving (Muruga Agastiya) who follows this blog postings, driven by his yearning to understand these hymns, seeked the assistance of Tkr. Priyavarshini to translate them. Muruga Agastiya has been generous enough to share this piece with non-Tamil readers of Siddha Heartbeat.

People or human beings says, let things take place it is only then I would believe (in god); The Siddha says, believe in it and it would happen.

The Siddhas speak about Agastiyar. The Siddhas have a very high regard towards Agastiyar. They look up on him as Guru Muni. In the following revelations from the Nadi, the Siddhas praise Agasthiyar.

Konganar has this to say about Agasthiyar:

I am the teacher to solve or remove the dreadful sins.
The teacher will teach the path of righteousness.
Advising the secrecy of birth or karma
The truth lays in the eternal cosmic egg or zero
The six angles (Lord Muruga born from Shiva’s third eye) shows the form of Lord Shiva
It (He or the 6 angles) drives the anger and desire out
It drives away the Ego
The teacher is the best judge and he is the person to give or show the path of Salvation

Agasthiyar is praised in a traditional hymn as follows:

By worshiping Agathiyar teacher whole-heartedly helps a person to get rid of disease, poverty, enmity, depression. The mentor cools the inner heat or trauma of his devotee or student. The mentor further protects and bestows blessings to his follower by following him like a shadow. Moreover, paying homage to one’s mentor not only increases one’s wealth but the wealth of his future generation. 
Further, all songs or hymn of Agathiyar has profound meaning and speaks about bringing prosperity. The hymn or songs are so sweet like the twinkling sound of the anklet, which the Lord Thillai is wearing. It is because the mentor Agasthiyar himself and his songs are the best medicine that bring relief or solution to congenital malady. As Agathiyar, is a best medicine and so are his songs very sweet to read, listen and to sing. A person carrying serious and terrible curses and sins committed in the past births out of ignorance start cure by just praying to the mentor Agasthiyar. Moreover, why fear when the spear of Subramaniyan and the powered master companion is with us who when uttering the very name of ‘Muruga’ can shake and tremble all the 14 Lokas or abode. The follower or students get victory. How many ever births we take the mentor Agathiyar would come to protect us by continuously praying to him. So let us daily pray to mentor Agasthiyar.

Thirumular coins the following hymns about Agathiyar (Source: Thirumula Devan Agatheesarai Pugalnthu Suvadi Moolam Aruliya Arutkavigal - Arul Gnana Aran Sirappu - Agathiyan Arul Moopu by Sri Agathiyar Sanmarga Sangam Turaiyur).

My translation: 
1. காலனையும் கைக்குள்ளே அடக்கிக்கொண்டு (The God of Death is compressed in the hand)
கருணை என்ற கடல் தனிலே ஆட்சி செய்து (ruling in the sea of kindness or mercy)
ஞாலமதில் ஞானத்தை காத்து நின்று(He who stands to protects the wisdom on the earth plane)
ஞானிகளை ஆக்கி நின்ற ஞானத்தேவே (He who stands as the Lord or embodiment of wisdom and he have created wise men or sages)

2. தேவே நின் திருவடிகள் மூலன் இப்போ (through your feet, my Lord)
தெரிவிப்பேன் குருமுனியின் ஆசியோடு (I would present my praises or advice with the blessings of mentor sage or Agathiyar)
கூறிடுவேன் தலைவா நின் அடியைப் போற்றி (My Chief, I will sing in praise of you by bowing to your feet)
குருமுனியே திருமுனியே அறிந்தவர்க்கு (who knows the revered mentor Sage)

3. அறிந்தவர்க்கு அறக்கடலாய் விளங்குவாரே (the mentor will become a trusted source of knowledge to those who want to learn or to those who are knowledgeable)
அருள் என்றல் அகத்தியன் தான் வணங்குவோர்க்கு (Agathiyar or the mentor is the synonym of grace or he is full of grace for those people who bow to him)
குறிப்பறிந்து குறை நீக்கும் குருவே கும்பன் (my mentor Kumba Muni Agastiya removes my grievance or fulfills my desire by just hinting him)
குந்தகத்தை உடைத்தெறியும் அருளே கும்பன் (The Kumba Muni Agathiyar destroys the threat)

4. கும்பனருள் நிகர் சொல்ல எவருமில்லை (there is no equivalent word for Kumba Muni Agathiyar’s grace)
குகனும் சிவன் தனக்கு நிகர் அருளைத் தந்தார் (Agathiyar the mentor gives blessings or grace equivalent to that of Lord Muruga and Lord Shiva)
எம்மறையும் அவர் உரைத்தால் பின்தான் சொல்வோம் (we will quote or speak the words of mentor Agathiyar, says in the testament or holy text)
ஏழு என்றால் நாங்கள் எல்லாம் கரத்தைக் கட்டி (here, seven means the seven planes, abode, the seven sages, or seven births i.e. we the seven will fold our arms and show our respect to the mentor Agathiyar)

5. கட்டி நின்று கால் பற்றி ஆசி கேட்போம் (we will ask for Agathiyar blessing by folding our hand and by holding the holy feet)
கடாட்சமென்றல் அவர் ஈந்தால் உண்டு என்போம் (blessings means the mentor would say you would get)
சட்டிசுட வேண்டுமென்றால் கும்பனைக்கேள் (ask the Kumba Muni Agathiyar, to make the pot to burn or the body to leave the earth plane or emancipated)
சாகாவரம் வேண்டுமென்றால் கும்பனைக்கேள் (ask the Kumba Muni Agathiyar, to get a immortal life as a boon)

6. கும்பனைக்கேள் குடும்பமுடன் ஞானம் சொல்வார் (Hey, family man or the person living in a family or married people with family members and ask the Kumba Muni Agathiyar to is ready to impart eternal knowledge or show the path to get wisdom)
கோடிலக்கம் வேண்டுமா கும்பனைக்கேள் (ask the Kumba Muni Agathiyar, he will give you millions of explanations)
எம்மானும் கும்பனே எல்லோர்க்கும் தான் (Lord Shiva is Kumba Muni Agathiyar and he is for everyone)
எங்களுக்கு வாசி தந்த வாசி கும்பன் (Kumba Muni Agathiyar, who has given us breath or given us a home)

7. கும்பன் தான் ஔடதமும் நவக்கோளும் தான் (Kumba Muni Agathiyar, is the medicine and nine planets)
கும்பன் தான் குவலயமே வேறு ஏது (there is no world other than Kumba Muni Agathiyar or I am the world says Kumba Muni Agathiyar)
கும்பன் என்றால் ஆயிரத்தெட்டு அண்டமெல்லாம் (Kumba Muni Agathiyar means 1008 Universe)
குறுகி நின்று நடு நடுங்கும் பராக்கிரமங்கள் (all the world would stand dwindling, shaking and trembling before his mightiness)

8. பராக்கிரமம் இகபரமும் சொல்வார் கும்பன் (Kumba Muni Agathiyar speak about power of earth and heaven, and the power of this world and next)
பாடிட்டால் மாற்றம் சொல்ல எவனும் இல்லை (whosever does not change)
பராக்கிரமும் வாளையைப் போல் அளிப்பார் கும்பன் (Kumba Muni Agathiyar mightiness is like the sword)
பட்டமரம் துளிர்க்குமடா கும்பன் சொன்னால் (if Kumba Muni Agathiyar wishes even a dry tree will start to shoot)

9. கும்பன் சொன்னால் குளவிகூட குதிறையாகும் (If Kumba Muni Agathiyar wish even a wasp would turn into horse)
குருமுனிக்கு கிரியாவும் கடுகாய் நிற்கும் (Kadukai the elixir stops the power of five element that creates the world, thus says the dwarf sage Agathiyar)
கும்பனையே வணங்கியோர்க்கு குறைகளண்டா (there is no shortcoming to those praying to Kumba Muni Agathiyar)
குறையில்லா காப்பாக இருப்பார் என்றும் (the sage is a shield and protects you from all shortcomings)

Pulipaani lists out all the praises of Agathiyar by the other Siddhas (Source: Maagaan Pulippaani Sidhar Aasi Kaandam - Gnanigal Suvadi Moolam Aruliya Arul Vaakku by Sri Agathiyar Sanmarga Sangam Turaiyur)

1. ஆசியதும் கூறுகின்ற என் குருநாதா
அடிபணிந்து புலிப்பாணி உரைப்பேனிப்போ

I the Pulipani prescribe by bowing at the feet of my mentor Agathiyar who gives blessings.

Beginning with Bhogar

2. பாசமுடன் அகத்தியனின் அருளை வேண்டி (praying with love to Agathiyar to get his grace)
பகலிரவாய் நாமத்தை செபித்துக் கொண்டு (chanting his name day and night)

3. செபித்து திரிகின்ற மக்கள் நீங்கள் (people roam or strive or drift away, says the Sage)
சிறப்புடன் இப்புவியில் வாழ்வீரப்பா (you will live with prosperity in this world)
தப்பில்லா கலியுகத்தில் உயர்ந்து வாழ்வீர் (without fail you will raise or flourish in this world, says Agathiyar)
தவமுனி அகத்தியனை நினைத்துவிட்டால் (and it is all by just thinking of Agathiyar, the thoughtful sage)

4. நினைத்தாலே ஈரேழு சென்ம பாவம் (by thinking of Agathiyar, the sins of 14 birth)
நீங்கிடுமே என்றுமே போகர் சொன்னார் (would be wiped off, says the sage Bhogar)

Valluvar: 

1. நினைவுகொண்ட முனிவரெல்லாம் தவமிருந்து (all sages are remembering and meditating on Agathiyar)
நானிலத்தில் தவம் செய்து அகத்தியம் கண்டார் (and they meditate for epoch, says the sage Agathiyar)

2. அகத்தியத்தை கண்டதொரு முனிவரெல்லாம் (all those who have seen the sage Agathiyar)
அகிலத்தில் ரிஷிகளாய் வாழ்வார் இன்று (would live or become sages of this world)
ஜெகத்திலே மாந்தர்கள் அகத்தியத்தை (in this world, when women worship Agathiyar fondly or well)
சிறப்புடன் பூசித்தால் தேவராவார் (and they will become Gods)
தேவராவார் என்றுமே வள்ளுவர் சொன்னார் (they will become Gods, say Valluvar)

Shivavaakiyar: 

1. தெரிந்திட்ட மாந்தர்கள் பூசை செய்து (women worshipped knowingly)
பலவினைகள் நீங்கியே பல்லாண்டு வாழ்ந்தார் (they lived for years by getting rid of many sins)
பாருலகில் பலசிறப்பு அகத்திய நாமம் (the name of Agathiyar has many specialty in this world)

2. அகத்திய நாமமதும் செபித்து நின்றால் (by chanting Agathiyar name)
அகிலத்தில் வினையில்லா சேய் பிறக்கும் (you will get to be born in this world without any sins)
புகழுடன் சிவவாக்கியர் கூறி நின்றார் (the sage Shivavakkiyar stands praising this)

Avvaiyaar: 

1. பல்லாயிரம் ஆண்டு காலம் வாழ்வதற்கு (living for many thousands of years)
வாழ்வதற்கு அகத்திய நாமம் பெருமருந்தாகும் (to live, Agathiyar name is a medicine)
விளக்கமுடன் கூறினார் ஔவையார் தானும் (explicate Avvaiyaar)

Paambaatti Sidhar: 

தாழ்வில்லா அகத்தியரை வணங்கி நின்றால் (by bowing to Agathiyar)
தரணியிலே மரணமில்லா வாழ்வார் என்று (the person will live a immortal life in this world)
என்றுமே கூறி நின்றார் பாம்பாட்டி சித்தர் (always says Pambaati Sidhar)

Pulipaani continues with the lists: (11:15 am to 5:30 pm)

இப்படியே சித்தர்கள் முனிவர்களெல்லாம் (all Sidhas and Muni)
நான்கு யுகங்களாய் அகத்தியர் மகிமை (in all epoch)
நல்லதை கூறியே யுகம் போற்ற வாழ்ந்தார் (the sages always spoke in praise and good of Agathiyar and thus they were revered during all ages)

1. Machamuni:

போற்றிடவே மும்மூர்த்தி தேவர்களும் (praising Agasthiyar the Trinity i.e. the Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and other Gods)
புனிதமுள்ள சித்தர்களும் ரிஷிகளெல்லாம் (the holy Sidhar and Sages)
குற்றமில்லா கணபதியும் முருகனோடு (along with the flawless or pure Lord Ganapathy and Muruga)
கண்டதொரு தேவதைகள் கணங்களோடு (Gods and Demons were watching Sage Agathiyar)

2. கணங்களுடன் பூதங்கள் நவக்கோள்கள் (along with demons, giants, and the nine planets)
குவலயத்தில் காண்பதொரு நிறங்களெல்லாம் (what beauty and colors we see in the world)
மணம் வீசும் நறுமணங்கள் திசைகள் பத்தும் (and all the fragrance that spreads in all ten directions)
முழுமையும் இவ்வுலகம் அகத்தியம் என்று(whole of this world is Agathiyar)

3. என்றுமே கூறிட்டார் மச்சமுனி நூலும் (always claims Machamuni in his works or hyms)

Finally, Pulipaani too has something to say:

1. இவ்வளவு அற்புதங்கள் ஒன்றென்றால் அகத்திய நாமம் (If there is a wonder and that is the name of Agathiyar)
என்றென்றும் நாமத்தை செபித்து விட்டால் (chanting the name of Agathiyar always)
செபித்தோர் முதல் இலட்ச மக்கள் பலனடைவார் (and those millions of people who chant the name of Agathiyar had benefitted)

2. அடைந்திடும் நாமத்தை உலகோர்கெழுதி (listen all, to attain the name of Agathiyar in this world)
அறிய செய்வோர் அகத்தியருக்கும் சேயுமாவார் (and those learned people also learn from Agathiyar)
எடுத்துரைக்க இதுகாலம் போராதப்பா (it is not enough to convey it in this birth)
இதுக்கொரு விதியுண்டு சித்தர் கேட்க (there is a destiny or rule for it and as the Sidhar demands or wants)

3. சித்தர்கட்கு எடுத்துரைப்போம் அறிவீர்கள் நீங்கள் (let us speak about the Sidhas knowledge and you will come to know about him)
சிவபெருமான் பார்வதியும் மகிழ்ந்துமிப்போ (let us please or give happiness to Lord Shiva and Parvathi)
ஒதிடவே புலிபாணி ஓடிவந்தேன் (Sidhar Pulipaani came running to advice)
உலகில் நீங்கள் உயர் செல்வ நிதிகளோடு (you should live in this world with lots of wealth, funds, gems and grains)

4. நிதிகளுடன் அதிர்ஷ்டங்கள் பெற்று வாழ (you will live in this world with wealth, gains, gems and live receiving luck)
நிதி தெய்வம் இலக்குமியை வணங்கியாசி (you pray or you have prayed to the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi)
ஒதிடவே உயர் ஞானம் கல்வி காண (acquire education and high wisdom)
உலகிலே சரஸ்வதியை வணங்கி ஆசி (all get the blessings of Saraswathy by worshiping or bowing to her)

5. ஆசியதுவுடன் பார்வதியை போற்றுகிறேன் (I praise Parvathy to get her grace or blessing)
அருள் பொருள் இன்பமதும் நிறைவு காண (to enjoy completely the grace, material prosperity and pleasure)
பாசமுடன் தினங்காத்து நல்வழி காட்ட (waiting with love, to show good path)
பரமசிவன் அருள் முனிவர் அகத்தியர் போற்றி (praising the sage Agathiyar who has the grace of Lord Paramasivan)

6. போற்றியே வணங்குகின்றேன் புலிப்பாணியிப்போ (I the sage Pulipaani bow to you)
புவிதனிலே அகத்தியத்தை வணங்கிவிட்டால் (those who bow to the sage Agathiyar)
நிறைவுபெற்ற மரணமில்லா வாழ்வடைவீர் (you will lead an immortal life by putting an end to death)
நினைத்தவண்ணம் நிதி செல்வம் குன்றா வாழ்வு (the moment you wish at once your life is blessed with wealth, grains and gems)

7. வாழ்வதனில் உலகமுள்ள காலம்மட்டும் (as long as the life in this world exist)
வாழ்ந்திடும் உங்கள் குடி செழித்து நன்றாய் (your life and family will live with prosperity)
அழகுபட ஆனந்தமாய் வாழ்வீர் என்றும் (live beautifully with happiness)

A COMPENDIUM OF SIDDHA SONGS

When I was asked to come to the path of the Siddhas and to worship them by Agathiyar in my very first Nadi reading in 2002, I was in the dark as to who were the Siddhas and how was I to worship them. 

By their grace I was given a small booklet containing a long list of Siddha names compiled by the Sri Agathiyar Sanmarga Sangam, Turaiyur, by the Nadi Guru Sentilkumar of Avinashi.

I reached out to the local chapter of the Sangam in the hope of obtaining more information about the Siddhas. 

When I was at their main centre at Turaiyur, I purchased more books and literature. 

When I met Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal I received yet another compilation of Siddha names and other songs. 

Browsing through the book shops, I laid my eyes on more books on Siddhas. 

I adopted all these songs in my daily prayer to Agathiyar and the Siddhas. 

As they were dispersed in numerous books, I began compiling them into several handy publications for the numerous occasions where we conducted Siddha prayers. 

Finally I compiled a compendium of songs, and together with the above mentioned, I uploaded them to Scribd, SlideShare and other digital document libraries, many years ago. 

Along the way the number of songs that I received by the grace of the Siddhas, increased. Hence there was a necessity to come out with an updated and revised edition of the Complete Book of Praise to Agathiyar and the Siddhas.

A DEVOTEE FROM AFRICA AT KALLAR

A family devoted to Agathiyar traveled again to Kallar to be in the midst of other devotees to celebrate Agathiyar's Jayanthi and Guru Puja. She writes about the amazing developments that took place even before she made her journey with her family to India and the amazing adventure that awaited them while there. 

She writes a personal note too to appreciate AVM family members whom she met on the grounds of the Kallar Ashram.

Back from India only a week ago, I thought I would share some of my experiences with you before the dance of daily life took over. It was great to see how many people had returned home and written to share their photos and experience after the Guru Pooja. I had the opportunity to meet some of your AVM devotees at Kallar and enjoyed getting to know and chatting with them. It was pleasing to meet young people with such devotion and commitment to the path. You and your community have certainly done much to cultivate the right values, provide the right guidance and direction and nurture them to open their minds and hearts to follow something priceless, visible to only a few. Their sincerity and devotion to the path is admirable. If a tiny atom like myself could see this I am certain Agasthiyar knows it well.
Staying back after the Guru Puja, she was blessed with another Jeeva Nadi reading at Kallar, her second.
I referred briefly in the piece of another nadi reading. Yes! I was not going to leave India without another conversation with "my…our father", and I whispered this sweetly into Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal's ear. I was relieved that he (our father) was happy to speak to me too. It was only my second reading and I have already gleaned so much of his character; he does not repeat himself, he tells you what you need to know, the power of his word is beyond question, his warmth and compassion is endearing …I could go on but I think I will stop there. 

In my last reading he mentioned that "I am always present in front of you". This second reading confirmed this. He knew of the temples I had visited. He knew exactly how I was feeling at specific times, my state of mind (a few examples confirmed that). He knew of the prayers I offer to him in my home. He knew precisely of the things I worry about. He reassured me around many things. There is no question that he is with me all the time. There is no human emotion to express my joy and gratitude for such a gift. As any good child would I asked "what do you need father, what can I give you?" to which his spontaneous reply was "Just continue to pray". 

I kindly ask a favor of you. Could you please share this article with Suriyen. I have written a few words, not quite a poem, of what I saw in his face.

Trip 2
Some time around the end of July 2015 I discovered that the annual Agasthiyar pooja would be taking place on the 29th of December, 2015. I remember the day with absolute clarity. The news brought my otherwise ordinary day to a screeching halt. I immediately felt a magnetic pull to the ashram in Kallar. It preoccupied my mind for some time. I tried to convince myself that the feeling would pass and I should not give it too much attention. I could not conceptualise another trip to Kallar in the same year as we had just been in April 2015. Again I reminded myself to shake it off.

A short while later, whilst driving to an appointment, I heard an airline commercial on the radio, advertising flights to India (the same airline I spoke of favourably just the week before). The prices were unbelievably reduced and I wondered if I had heard correctly. The coincidence of hearing the commercial and my earlier thoughts preoccupied my thinking further. When I was able to, I sped off to the airline website to confirm if what I had heard was correct. It was positively confirmed. After consultation with my husband and family we decided to explore the possibility of going to India, again. There were very specific dates and time periods in December during which we could accommodate such a trip because of other responsibilities and commitments. Our exploration yielded flight availability for the very same dates and times to suit us perfectly. Another coincidence (or was it?). It was remarkable; messages appeared to be sent deliberately, the airline had been chosen, the price of the tickets very persuasive, specific dates and times were accommodated with absolute precision. We wasted no more time in booking the flights. Trip 2 to Kallar was designed and arranged, little of which was within our control.

26th December
After a very long and tiring journey, from South Africa, we arrived in Tutticodi; late on the 26th of December, 2015. This destination was to enable us to make the climb up Athiri Hills on the 27th, an atonement I was still required to complete. We set out for Athiri Hills at 6h30 on the morning of the 27th. The drive was long but picturesque. Our driver, Ganesh had lived around that area previously but had not been to the reserve before. Nevertheless, armed with a map and numerous verbal directions we sought the hills with much confidence.
Losing our way a few times resulted in a more meandering drive towards the hills. “Losing our way” however, was how we miraculously arrived in Papanasam, at the Sivan Temple. Realising where we were we decided to visit the temple and pay our respects to the mighty one. I was especially grateful for the opportunity since our last visit to the temple had been when the temple was unfortunately closed. The temple was busy and bustling with people. We bought a few lamps at the entrance and proceeded towards the main alter. I was ecstatic to finally be inside that home of Lord Shiva. One could rationalize at length around how we were diverted to the temple but it would be pointless. In short it was extraordinary. After our prayers at the main alter the priest guided us to where we should light the remaining lamps. Although there were lots of people everywhere, both inside and outside the temple, there was still a sense of peace and calm. The energy within the temple incited many personal emotions and experiences. The most noteworthy of these would most certainly be the sweet fragrance of sandalwood that waft through the air catching our attention as we were leaving the temple. I distinctly recall pointing this out to my husband, not wanting him to miss it.

In a nadi reading later that week, our dear one (Agasthiyar) acknowledged that I had visited the Sivan Temple in Papanasam and that he had been there. He shared that he was in the form of the “sweet fragrance of sandalwood” which I had noticed on our way out. Our unscheduled arrival at the Papanasam temple that morning was a divine invitation, for which I can offer no form of befitting appreciation through any means of conscious expression.

We reached Athri Hills around mid morning. The weather fortunately, gratefully was cloudy and mild. Our driver arranged for our access into the mystic forest with the reserve official at the entrance. I was hoping my children would not see the “Tiger Reserve” board that stood proudly at the gate. Unfortunately for me they did and boldly expressed their desire to see a tiger, much to my horror. We set off, to visit Gorakar’s cave and to meet the revered Athri Maharishi and the many siddhas that reside beside him.
We began the trek with much gusto until we found ourselves before a motionless body of water. This, we were not prepared for. Perplexed, we stood before the water, our minds racing to find a solution to get across. Although that strategy often proves effective in other domains of life, this was not one of them. The only way to get across was to walk through the water. (Our hesitation or strong inclination to process and think when faced with such obstacles is/was based purely on our lack of exposure or experience to such situations hence submitting to the wicked hand of fear. This was exacerbated by the circumstance of having our two children with us).There was little time or opportunity for extensive deliberation; we walked through the knee deep water.
We reached the other side with much relief and continued deeper into the thick forest. The narrow single file path was strewn with large red and black centipedes. It was not long before we arrived at a stream. By this time we were far into the mission to ponder over it, it had to be crossed. The forest became dense and dark in some places and fear began to creep in. I resolved to keeping my head down, to focus on the path and not look around to lessen the fear. This was not met with success. I was acutely aware that the forest was the home to many dangerous and fearsome beings who took their role in protecting the siddhas very seriously. I silently put out a prayer communicating that I was aware that we were walking through their home and I fully respected every being that lived there, we would leave their home with full appreciation, but in view of my human disability, fear, they should please not present themselves before me. The one time when I did look up however, I caught sight of a stunning peacock not far away. I was immediately distracted by it’s breath taking beauty. Knowing that the peacock is Muruga’s companion I began to chant his name silently, fervently. My prayer was blessed with the sighting of the magnificient peacock, centipedes and the most beautiful, free spirited butterflies which danced around us.
The on going journey was dotted with several more rivers to cross, many of which boasted high levels of water, as the area had just enjoyed much rain.

My mounting fear distracted me from deriving the transcendent benefits of such a journey. I called out silently to Agasthiyar and explained my dilemma. I maintained a mental communication with him to help me see the mission through.

It was not long before we arrived at yet another river. This river was not to be outdone by the others. It was fast flowing, crystal clear, proudly displaying it’s mighty rocks and much wider than any of the others.
Our dear good natured driver, Ganesh searched for the best spot along the river that would be safest to get across. By this time he must have pondered “I did not sign up for this” and rightly so. The day so far had been a far cry from a driver’s ordinary day. However, he showed no signs of discontent. On the contrary he revealed his exceptional character in the way he accommodated and guided us, fully cognizant of our fears, inexperience and insecurities. Nevertheless, the glorious river before us was to test his mettle further.

Ganesh continued to look around trying to plot the safest path across. My heart sank. My fear could not step up a notch having already reached it’s peak. It was imperative that my family (particularly my children) not see my fearful state or sense my state of mind. I glanced skywards and mentally called out to Agasthiyar, “Where are you?”, with as much composure as I could muster?

There was an almost immediate response to my call when I heard the voices of people…
I looked beyond the thick leafy trees and saw a group of people further up the river. They were shouting to get our attention. They signalled to us to walk further up towards them. An unbelievable sense of relief followed. There was immense comfort knowing that there were other people in the forest. We were no longer alone. The one group of men had taken a bath in the river and were getting ready to leave, another group were having a meal around some gigantic rocks and kindly invited us to join them. There was miraculiously a tight rope spanning across the river. They guided us to hold onto the rope and walk across the river, to where they waited. The rope helped to maintain some balance while treading the swift flowing water. They advised us on where to step as the rocks were slippery and guided each of us meticulously across to safety. They informed us that they were going up the hill to the temple as well and they would take us. I saw each of them as siddhas. I had a distinct feeling that the four noble souls were sent to our aid by “our father” himself. They sang and chanted shiva mantras as we ascended. I felt immense relief. Three of them walked ahead of us and one of them walked behind. There was no question or co-incidence that they were sent to guide us. They came fully prepared with a bag of pooja items. On reaching Korraka’s cave, they lit up a lamp and insence sticks. They guided us into a prayer and later explained the history and wonder of the cave.

Our journey with the four saintly guides continued. I was able to relax and notice more of the amazing greenery that sprouted from of the sacred earth. The air was clean and fresh. Although there was a slight drizzle the sun managed to peep through the forest foliage. Being divinely guided, the walk reaching up to Athiri Maharishi’s abode felt more like a leisurely stroll.

The temple was buzzing with people. We were informed that not many people visit there on weekdays. People tend to visit on a Sunday as there is usually a pooja on Sundays. I pondered over this and realized that Agasthiyar had factored this in our schedule when he designed our trip, as we had to visit the temple on a Sunday and there was no other day/date we could have done so. The saintly guides that accompanied us together with priests from the temple made quick preparations for abishegams for all the siddha murthis around the temple. Once the abishegams were complete, we were invited to pray and pay our respects to each one of them. The saintly people were warm, welcoming, friendly, hospitable and kind hearted. It was an absolute priviledge to be assisted and guided through the prayers by them. It was far beyond our expectation.

Needless to say our journey down the hill was more relaxed and appreciative of the rare beauty around us. More significantly; absent of debilitating fear. We embraced the opportunity to enjoy crossing the many rivers as these were rare experiences for us. We noticed the beauty and splendor of the many flowers and trees we had not seen on the way up. The slight drizzle disappeared and the sun made a more prominent appearance although, it was still quite moderate. I was most grateful for the gentle weather, fully aware that too was arranged by the revered one.

It brings me back to my desperate call to him earlier, when I implored “where are you?”. He was there, he had been there all the time. In my nadi reading later in the week he confirmed that I had been very afraid (he put it mildly) during the journey but he had been there all the time. (I had concealed my fear from my family successfully but not from him…)

Fear every bit a human emotion has no place on this path. It may take some time to take control of fear instead of being controlled by it but learning to trust and experiencing the hand of the omnipotent transcends feeling the human emotion, unquestionably, the space to seek.

We reached the new ashram in Kallar at around 6am. The sun was gently awakening. There was a noticeable chill in the air. Lots of people moved about busily. We stood on the sanctified soil, looking around and took in the fresh, morning Kallar air.

Greetings with Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal and Mataji was met with much excitement and enthusiasm, for all of us. We gratefully accepted their blessings. We spent some time engaged in a warm, affectionate conversation with them before swamiji took us around to show us the building and the new home for the revered siddhas.
By this time the sun was smiling down pleasantly revealing the beauty of the surrounding greenery and the rolling hills behind it. The morning prayer was officiated by Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal and Mataji, after which a flag was raised.

What followed that day educated me on several levels of consciousness. I wanted to use all my senses, to recognise and appreciate any manifestation of the many miracles I was certain would take place that day. Introspection since that day has illuminated much, deep within; much of which is personal and unique to my karmic structure. Abundantly clear for me, as an infant on this journey, is that reading, learning and knowledge is not enough, it’s important, but the soul craves experience, to feel, to touch and be touched (tangibility). Hence “putting the book down for a moment” stepping out and allowing oneself to feel can surprise one with an experience of soaring through the sky, far beyond, to a place specific to what that soul seeks.

The main prayer took place later that day when numerous bundles of sacred herbs, leaves and shrubs were offered to a sacrificial fire. Each herb/leaf/plant is significant in possessing the ultimate cure for every illness currently known to man. This for me was newly acquired knowledge, hence I was beyond grateful for being fortunate enough to attend and participate in such an auspicious event.
A sacred fire was placed at a central point. Numerous devotees sat in a huge circle, a safe distance, around it. Mataji praised each herb/leaf/plant for its divine medicinal properties and chanted it’s relevant mantra before it was graciously offered to the roaring fire. The respected fire accepted the offerering, sanctified it and released into the air a blessed fragrance of that herb/leaf/plant. The level of spiritual energy that radiated from devotees combined with that released from the fire was powerful.
By this time of the day the mighty sun was not going to be excluded from contributing to the energy levels. It played it’s role remarkably in scorching my karma as I tried profusely to bear it bravely. There were however, a few times when I faltered and asked Agathiyar to “provide some relief” after which a welcome breeze drifted across.
The faith and devotion shown by the devotees could have moved a mountain. It also confirmed that everyone there were united for the same purpose. It begged the question, “Does that not make us one and the same?”. If one had to fly high up above Kallar at that moment; what would the view have been? Just a dot, all the people on the ground would be viewed from far above as one, just a dot; one and the same.
This took me back to an encounter I had with a wise one earlier that very morning. As I mentioned earlier I was trying to use all my senses to the best of my ability, very aware that I was surrounded by the divine in every form or shape. I was in the company of a few people that morning when for a few brief moments all of them drifted away. I suddenly found myself alone…. but not for long.
Quite swiftly a sage like person (fully dressed in ochre, slender, tall, long hair, long beard etc.) appeared before me catching me completely by surprise. I say appeared before me because I had been standing alone, with wide open space around me and I did not see anyone approaching. He sped into a conversation. I tried awkwardly to conceal my surprise. I had hardly gathered my thoughts when he was already at the point of asking some personal questions like “where I was from, family etc”. I noticed his hair, his beared and his smile as he talked. His smile was arresting. He spoke perfect English, absent of any one accent. He told me something that appeared strange and cryptic, which I did not understand. We chatted around it for a bit. He gently assured me that I would see it. He was warm and friendly and the conversation rolled with ease.

I then arrived at a point where I questioned where he hailed from, to which he replied, “That’s an interesting question. I am everywhere. I am here, there and everywhere”. I tried to grasp this, my interest provoked. I waited for him to explain.

He went on to say, “I am an engineer by trade. I lived in Germany for many years, then I moved to Slovakia”, (I think it was Slovakia, I am struggling to recall this, the end of this encounter will reveal that it no longer matters that I cannot recall it, proving his point). He then revealed a bit more personal information about himself.

Unexpectedly he swerved back to geographical location and added, “the important thing to remember is that it does not matter where we live or where we come from in the world, on the globe. We are all the same, we are all one, so we should see everybody as one”. He was completely content with what he had just said. Rather profound indeed. I agreed spontaneously.

This can be further expounded to reveal that there are no differences among people, no differences in color, nationality, creed, language, religion, gender, social status etc. We should see all as the same, all as being one.

Embracing all as one, should therefore not be limited to the human race but should transcend across all living things. Seeing all living things as one has the potential for man to walk this earth showing appreciation, gratitude and respect to all other beings, leaving this earth as it was found.

By this time the people that were with me earlier returned. I have no recollection of introducing them or not. They began to move down towards the tent and gestured for me to join them. It all happened very quickly. I returned my attention to the wise one. I noted how happy he was. We said our goodbyes. As I was walking away he reminded me to look out for the cryptic thing he mentioned to me earlier. I turned around and looked at him. He was still standing there, smiling radiantly. I promised I would.

Further introspection since the encounter has revealed much which for now is what can be shared. My wish is that I be blessed to recognize him instantly, not if, but when I see him again.

AN ACT OF LOVE & DEVOTION


We at AVM & Siddha Heartbeat were invited to join a prayer at the home of Harikrishnan on Sunday, 17 January 2016. We had witnessed a fabulous bhajan performed by Hari's group at the Batu Caves earlier. My family and I, with Bala Chandran and Mahin joined Hari, Jegan and Yuvarani with their troupe in prayers for Lord Murugan.

It was an energizing evening which culminated in the Lord's presence amongst us. 

Jegan gave us a brief write-up about how they had started out on this path of devotion. 
This prayers is started by Sree Krishna Sankeerthanam Bhajans team, few years back.
It will be happening every year where abhishegam will be done to Lord Murugan who appears in the form of ‘Aimponn vigraham’ (panchaloha statue).
One special thing about our small Panchaloha Murugan is that, He will be visiting to every samy’s (devotees who are on Thaipusam austerity) house on every Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the 48 days of Thaipusam Fasting period month. The very last samy/devotee to do the abhishegam at his home will be taking care of Panchaloha Murugan until the upcoming prayers on the next year Thaipusam.
This last prayers which will be happening on the last weekend before Thaipusam day is considered as extra special, where all the samys will be assembling their kavadi porul in that Pooja.
In this prayers, apart from abhishega arathana by the respected samy who his house is visited by Panchaloha Murugan, there will be bhajan sessions as well by Sree Krishna Sankeerthanam Bhajans lead by Mr.VinayagaMurthi.
Basically, this prayers session is to invite as much people as we can (especially for those who are on Thaipusam fasting) for them to receive Skanda’s vibe and get them involved in Skandha sankeerthanam on this auspicious month.
The bhajan or sankeerthanam session by the bhajan team is done as a Skanda seva.
Hari's home happens to be the very last stop for Lord Murugan before Thaipusam. As narrated by Jegan, Hari's family will care for the Lord until they start the cycle again before the Thaipusam celebrations of 2017.

It is indeed heartwarming and assuring to see these youngsters take the lead bringing devotion and bakthi to our homes. AVM and Siddha Heartbeat is proud of them.

TWO DEVOTEES' EXPERIENCE AT KALLAR


The following is a recollection of Evgeny Orlov's (Shivaram) and Anastasia Bayunova's (Shivakami  - Nastya) stay at the Kallar Ashram recently for the Agathiyar Jayanthi and Guru Puja.  
The report about our stay in South India.
There is a special atmosphere in the ashram of Agastyar Jnana Piddham (Tamil Nadu, Kallar - South India).
Mountains, nature. Pure light energies are here, they are to helping to release anxiety.
Personally, I have a feeling of flight and lightness in the body. There is almost no thoughts in my head, except for the moments of aggravation of my old fears. They are periodically coming out with great force, and giving an opportunity to let them go once and forever. 
The morning begins before sunrise at 6-7 am. Usually primarily occurs the organizing of space - cleaning bedding, mats and sweeping the floor.
If you will get up early, you can visit the room for meditation, and tune in for the day. Energies there are very powerful, very concentrated. It's easy to get your true self, to look inside, to open the heart.
From the kitchen bringing a delicious tea with milk, it is uplifting and helps to wake up.
Here every morning you have to do a full bath. Hot water can be taken from a large pot on the fire.
In the morning gathering fresh flowers from the garden to decorate the altar. At 9am the morning puja is performed, Arati - offering fire in front the murti of deities and Siddhas.
Food - an integral part of any culture. In southern India, mainly rice cooked in different variations, vegetables, sometimes pancakes and cakes. Everything is very spicy. Lovers of spices can safely enjoy eating a few days, you. It is very appetizing and tasty. However, the spicy food affects the stomach, so it is necessary periodically to cook yourself something less spicy and dilute the oil or ghee yogurt, they are perfectly neutralized spices. Here usually ppl eat without the help of spoons and forks, sitting on the floor. During the day at the ashram three meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner, and in between the Indian milk tea or coffee. 
People here are generally very humble and open to communication. In India, according to my impressions, the priority of relationships given to loved ones, family, rather than personal ambitions.
The way of life is simple. Unusually, it is decided to throw garbage on the streets in large numbers. Everywhere freely walking animals: cows, goats, peacocks (which are make sounds similar to a cat), monkeys, snakes. 
Nearby there is a mountain river. The water of that river is cold and very clean, it wash away all the negative state. On the way to the river is a banana farm. There often come to break through the elephants, so the area is fenced with wire. The place is very beautiful. 
On Saturday morning performing the great Puja.
People coming from other cities and from abroad to read Jeeva Nadi. This is the reading of the fate from the palm leaves. Sunlight falls on the scrolls, and words appear.
I conducted the session, will describe my impression. I asked two questions which I would like to get the answer. First, the text was dictated and written in Tamil in a separate notebook, then they translated text to English and read it for me. Waiting for translation was very exciting. Heart pounding, powerful energies were around me, there was regret about the many actions in the past, it was a powerful cleansing. The information I received, was pleasant and I felt warmth inside myself. I received answers and description of the highlights of my current life and past incarnations, which were related to my questions. 
The building of the ashram exists there for about 15 years. Swami Tava Yogi (which means the yogi who has attained the silent smooth state of mind) Tangarasan Adigaral - founder of the ashram told me that many years ago there was just a small hut? And there was no home around.
And now just a few kilometers down is the road Metupalayam – Kallar, now is building a new large temple and Siddha ashram, where it is planned to perform the pujas, meditation, teaching yoga and breathing practices

В ашраме Агастьяр Джняна Пиддхам (Тамил Наду, Каллар - Южная Индия) особая атмосфера. Горы, природа. Здесь чистые светлые энергии, которые помогают отпустить тревоги. Лично у меня возникает ощущение полета и легкости в теле. Мыслей в голове практически нет, за исключением моментов обострения старых страхов. Они периодически выходят наружу с особой силой, и дают возможность отпустить раз и навсегда. 
Утро начинается до рассвета в 6-7 утра. Обычно в первую очередь происходит организация пространства - убрать спальные принадлежности, циновки, подмести пол. Если встать пораньше, можно посетить комнату для медитаций, настроиться на предстоящий день. Энергии там очень мощные, особо концентрированные. Здесь легко прийти в себя, посмотреть внутрь, раскрыть сердце. С кухни приносят вкусный чай с молоком, он поднимает настроение и помогает проснуться. Здесь принято каждое утро делать полное омовение. Горячую воду можно взять из большого котла на костре. С утра в саду собираются свежие цветы для украшения алтаря. В 9 утра проводится пуджа, арати - подношение огня перед мурти божеств и сиддхов. 
Еда - неотъемлемая часть любой культуры. На юге Индии в основном готовят рис в разных вариациях, овощи, иногда блинчики и лепешки. Все очень острое. Любителям специй несколько дней можно спокойно наслаждаться едой. Все очень аппетитное и вкусное. Однако острота сказывается на желудке, приходится периодически готовить самим что-то менее острое и разбавлять пищу маслом гхи или йогуртом, они прекрасно нейтрализуют специи. Здесь принято кушать обычно руками без помощи ложек и вилок, сидя на полу. В течение дня в ашраме три приема пищи - завтрак, обед и ужин, а между ними индийский чай с молоком или кофе. 
Люди здесь в основном очень простые и открытые в общении. В Индии, по моим впечатлениям, в приоритете отношения с близкими, семья, а не личные амбиции. Уклад жизни простой. Непривычно, что здесь принято кидать на улице мусор в больших количествах. Везде свободно гуляют животные: коровы, козы, павлины (которые издают звуки похожие на кошачьи), обезьяны, змеи.
Рядом есть горная река. Вода холодная и очень чистая, смывающая все негативные состояния. По пути к реке находится банановая ферма. Туда часто порываются прийти слоны, поэтому территория огорожена проволокой. Место очень красивое.
По субботам с утра проводится большая Пуджа. Приезжают люди из других городов и из заграницы на Джива Нади. Это чтение судьбы по пальмовым листьям. На свитки падает солнечный свет, и проявляются слова. Мне проводили сеанс, опишу впечатления. Я задала два вопроса, на которые хотела получить ответ. Сначала текст был продиктован и записан на тамильском языке в отдельную тетрадь, затем мне переводили устно текст на английский. Ожидание перевода было очень волнительным. Сердце бешено стучало, энергии были сильные вокруг, возникло сожаление о многих поступках в прошлом, это было мощное очищение. Информация, которую я получила, приятно отозвалась внутри. Я получила ответы и описание основных моментов своей текущей жизни и прошлого воплощения, которое связано с моими вопросами.
Здание ашрама существует около 15 лет. Свами Джи Тавайоги (что означает йогин, достигший безмолвного ровного состояния ума) Тангарасан Адигарал - основатель ашрама рассказывал, что много лет назад здесь была одна небольшая хижина, рядом вокруг не было домов. А сейчас за несколько километров по дороге Метупалаям – Каллар сейчас строится новый большой храм сиддхов и ашрам, где планируется проводить пуджи, медитации, обучение йоге и дыхательным практикам.

THE POWER OF THE ANCIENT FIRE

Srinath Raghavan posted on fb the success story of his personal attempt to calm the nerves of an over active child through the means of having the child sit and perform a Homam or an act of feeding the sacrificial fire. 
A concerned parent requested a Soulfully Yours. session for their over active children, whose nervous energies were high and sporadic, enough to cause trouble and stress to everyone around.
Now to counsel adolescents is a different deal, as they least take anyone seriously, because they feel, "I know it all dude, so why bother to tell me?" So with a little introspection and preparation, I decided to do something different to tackle the pressing issue.
Introducing Homa Therapy!

Through the medium of external fire, one's internal fire is regulated and modified to give tangible results, especially in children who are very receptive to the energies of fire, more than anyone else.
So we began with a Laghu Homa, or Short Homa, with the children showing visible halfheartedness in the ritual. We explained to them the process and the effects it has on mind and body.
Chanting the most powerful Agni Mantra, the Homa commenced and to everyone's surprise, the restless children started to turn calmer and composed with every offering; they also took active part in the process, thoroughly enjoying it. With the raging fire in front of them, their inner energies were being powerfully transformed by the external one.
Slowly they became receptive to the words of the facilitator and they listened to the counsel with good intent. We shared with them, the daily process to be practiced and they agreed to follow it, till they see long lasting results.
Such is the power of ancient fire, which can transmute and transform even the densest of energies, inside out!
Many are the benefits in performing a Homam or the Yagna (a larger scale). I was instructed by Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal to start doing one. When I told him I had no idea how to go about it, he gave me encouragement saying that it was a simple task. He said all the stuff that goes into the fire is readily available in the market. He told me further that it would suffice to chant the names of the Siddhas for a start. That is how we at AVM began performing the Homam. Later on in a Nadi reading Agathiyar reveals that the act of feeding this ancient fire can remove one's karma.
