Acharya Gurudasan shared a wonderful compendium/manual on safeguarding oneself from the onslaught of the dreaded virus in the air currently. Besides the rich info and recipes to boost one's immune system what attracted both of us was the use of a photo of Agathiyar at AVM in the 14-page booklet.
Besides the intake of these herbs, I believe the practice of pranayama shall go a long way in aiding us to breathe well in these times of the pandemic as I had seen its benefit in improving our general breathing capacity even in ordinary times. The “Bhramari Pranayama” is said to be an effective aid. https://shrutipathak.wordpress.com/2021/05/01/how-effective-is-bhramari-pranayama-on-covid-19-and-other-respiratory-diseases/ Acharya Gurudasan had taught us this technique in person and later through Zoom.
From https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04413747 we learn of a "breathing medical Yoga protocol" developed and initiated to test its efficacy but no study results were posted.
The rationale of use of deep yoga breathing as adjuvant treatment to COVID-19 disease , is linked to the mechanical action to stimulate the vagus nerve through scalene and sternocleidomastoid muscles..... On the basis of all these reasoning we plan to introduce a medical based-yoga deep breathing for activation of vagus nerve by scalene and sternocleidomastoid muscles function during breathing, as an adjuvant of care of the 1-2 and 4 stages of the COVID-19 disease to counteract the cumulative incidence of mortality and better outcome.
Elsewhere at https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/health-fitness/health-news/can-pranayama-help-us-in-fighting-covid-we-asked-experts/articleshow/79643955.cms, the doctors tell us that we are to practice them with caution especially if we already have medical problems.
Agathiyar told us that performing the ritual of Homam or Yagam in our homes shall safeguard us too. Lord Shiva earlier had asked to continue doing the Homam once a week, besides reciting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and Dhanvantri Mantra. The former drives away fear in us and the latter becomes a shield to protect us.
Of course, we should get vaccinated too. I got my second shot of AZ today. Hopefully, we shall survive this ordeal for we can never know who is the next victim of this "invisible" killer.
