The opening of the environmental short film, "One Earth," features a quote by Mahatma Gandhi: "Earth provides to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed." What took years to build is brought down in a matter of minutes. What took years to bring down is now done in a moment using big types of machinery. We see greed and a desire for more that bring man to land in making disastrous decisions and creating similar situations. As Sir David Attenborough says, "Back in the distant past, man lived in balance with nature, living off its resources", sadly, he adds that, "we are now totally out of balance with nature." If "Nature determined our survival back then, the tables have turned. We now determine nature's survival."
Man did not stop there. He turned towards the oceans, too.
"The humans came along and introduced machines, and all of a sudden, within 50 years, this ocean became a very noisy place. So what kind of noise are we talking about? We mostly hear shipping noise, but what is very devastating is actually the noise that is produced by seismic services looking for oil and gas. It has the pressure of a bomb. If the jungles are being stripped down by these man-made machines, the internet is stripping the masks of many. Man now has an avenue to speak his mind at the touch of the keypad. What exactly is man seeking to do? It boils down to individual interest and gains, often having a group to cover one's tracks while taking others for a ride. Let us move away from this track.
All our efforts for personal enlightenment end with maintaining a good lifestyle and observing moderate food, and adhering to restrictions. These only take care of the body and its internals. Coming to a guru in the physical form, we pick up knowledge to know our soul. The soul then comes as the guru within and guides us further. The divine grace, when it comes within, paves the path for the soul within us to unite with the parent soul that is Prapanjam. The journey home ends there. It is only in letting go of greed that we grow. It is only in letting go of greed that we arrive.
