One day at the office, a colleague called out to me for help with his Excel worksheet. I went over to his workstation to see what was his problem. He told me his problem and asked me how to go about it. He never vacated his seat. He was still holding on to his mouse, still struggling and desperately trying to solve it, even after asking for help. What he should have done was let go of the mouse and given me a seat, and allow me to find a solution.
Having learnt that a person I knew was going through many problems, I brought him to Tavayogi Thangarasan Adigal, when Tavayogi was in Malaysia. What he should have done is to briefly state his case and step aside giving Tavayogi the space to say a thing or too, hopefully give him a solution for all his problems. Instead the man started to narrate his misfortunes for hours on hand. Yet Tavayogi managed to tell him that all the hardship he was enduring, was due to his karma. The man should have stopped and asked what karma was and how he was to overcome it. But instead he continued on and on. Again Tavayogi managed to find a moment to give him his solution. "Potrinaal unathu vinai agalum appa", meaning karma can be rid through prayers. He should have stopped and asked what he should pray for and to whom. But he didn't. He was so filled with his problems that he was not listening at all.
Although it is difficult to bring oneself to admit that he cannot cope any further with life's problems and sought outside help, having done so, he should leave it entirely to the Lord or Guru to work on it. It is also said that when you approach a guru, go 'empty', let him fill you up, rather than go to him with ideas, opinions and accumulated book knowledge. Let him dispense true knowledge based on his experiences and be like a sponge, ready to absorb and expand.
Similarly the Lord only comes when we step aside. Once we call out for his help, we need to surrender to him. He can only work on us if we step aside, giving him space and time to work on us. Similarly Agathiyar asked us to be patient and not to rush to see results, once we submit to him. Agathiyar has to make arrangements to amend one's fate and destiny. This takes time. At times he has a showdown with Lord Brahma too trying to make changes in his devotees fate or destiny. The devotee too on his part has to adhere to all that is told or instructed by Agathiyar. Carrying out atonement or parikaram is not a one off affair. We tend to accumulate karma daily. Hence the need to do good continuously and on a daily basis, to counter the negative karma. Doing prayers and charity do help increase the positive vibes and merits.
The Lord came in the middle of the night and did all that was required of for his devotee Nandanar who was faced with a dilemma when he was asked to plough the fields, sow the seed and harvest the padi before he could leave to see his beloved Lord at Chidambaram.
Abhirami Pattar, Pattinathar, Thirunavukarasar, and many other saints were put to test and tortured but the Lord did not desert them in their time of need. He came to their aid. When my daughter was down with dengue fever, Agathiyar and Thirumoolar saved her. This was revealed in Surendaran Selvaratnam's Jeeva Nadi reading in Kallar. Agathiyar tells me he came because of our prayers.
Dr Krishnan, used to ask me to pray for prayers will do go, he says. But way back then in 1990's I did not give an ear for his advice. But I am grateful that the Lord did not desert me either, but instead patiently waited some 14 years for me to come back to his folds. He sent my nephew with a mantra, to bring me back to the path. A year after I read the Nadi. The following year I meet my first Guru. Two years later I meet my second Guru. Five years later Agathiyar comes to my home in the form of a statue. Five years later Agathiyar tells me he is alive in this statue and blessing his devotees. We at Agathiyar Vanam are indeed grateful to be given an opportunity to serve Agathiyar in this life. We are asking ourselves if we deserve his grace and compassion.
